Great Spirit Prayer

Great Spirit Prayer
Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind, whose breath gives life to all the world. Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.

Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others. Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me. I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy - Myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame. -American Indian - Lakota - Chief Yellow Lark 1887

Engaging Other Beliefs

Engaging Other Beliefs Part 1
I've been reading a very interesting article by Rowan Williams on this subject. Here are a few snippets:
-
We westerners tend to think that a 'religion' is a distinct system of ideas, beliefs that connect the world as we see it with a whole lot of non-visible powers or realities, which have to be paid attention to, worshipped or at least negotiated with, in order to have the maximum security in life. Religions express themselves in beliefs but also in distinctive practices like periods of self-denial, meetings for ritual actions and festivals. So far so good, in one sense. The dangerous assumption follows, though, that the world as we see it is pretty clear; we can agree about it whereas the powers that religion tries to connect with are invisible, so that we can't expect to agree about them. What they have in common is claims that can't be proved by appealing to the world as we all see it. So a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist and a Ghanaian or Papuan villager performing rituals handed down from time immemorial are all performing variations of the same thing; and that same thing is always set over against the obvious, 'public', shared world of what we can see. Life divides between things that are common to everyone and things that are unclear and therefore don't belong in the public and everyday. What 'religion' you belong to is simply a matter of which set of beliefs you happen to entertain in that bit of your life which is left over for this kind of thing.

But when we try to talk with the Muslim or the villager in particular, things get to look more complicated. The villager will undoubtedly say that performing rituals is as routine and necessary and uncontroversial a thing as milking cows; indeed, it may well be that the way you milk cows is dictated by rituals that seem to the outsider to have not very much to do with cows as we see them. Dylan Thomas memorably quotes in the preface to his Collected Poems the Welsh shepherd who was asked why he still performed rituals in fairy rings to protect his sheep; he replied (doubtless with scorn for the silliness of the question), 'I'd be a damn fool if I didn't'. There just isn't an ordinary world from which this villager takes time off to practice his 'traditional religion'. The same with the Muslim, in a more sophisticated way: the ordinary day you have to get through is marked in time intervals every bit as natural or obvious as the hours of the clock to us, the intervals between the five prayer times. There isn't a neutral time that needs interrupting to do religious things: the ordinary is the religious.

And just to take one more example of possible confusion: Buddhists have festivals and temples and statues, so they are obviously people who do this religious thing. But what are the invisible forces they deal with? For the strictest southern Buddhist at least, though in one sense for all Buddhists, the invisible forces are inside us; doing 'religious' things is not a matter of how to negotiate with an invisible world outside us at all, but of learning an all-inclusive set of mental habits that gradually changes the way you relate to this world and frees you from inner suffering and frustration.

So my imaginary African country can't after all be split up into four neat segments of religious belief, four varieties of one thing, that thing being a set of more or less chosen beliefs about invisible states of affairs alongside the ordinary world. What we have instead is rather a variety of styles of living, each of which has a very different account of the world as a whole, life as a whole. And although this may be rather obvious when you think about it, it does have some far-reaching consequences. Think for a moment about the old Indian parable of the blind men and the elephant one grasps its tail and says, 'It's a rope', one grasps its leg and says 'It's a tree', and so on. This is often used as a way of saying that we can never really tell the truth in religious matters, we all see things only from a limited perspective and so on. But we are missing the point; someone knows it's an elephant, and the force of the metaphor is not so much that no-one can know what the invisible sacred reality is actually like as that we are all painfully capable of reaching for the easiest language, the language that fits our own individual experience, when speaking of God, and fail to compare notes with each other or to submit what we say to an acknowledgement that the scale of what we're talking about should teach us some caution. The one thing the parable isn't really about is a distinction between what everyone can see and what some people unreasonably argue about.

Incredible Mayan frieze uncovered in Guatamala (The History Blog)

"Archaeologists excavating the ancient Mayan site of Holmul in the northeastern Guatemalan region of El Pet'en have discovered a monumental high-relief frieze buried in the foundations of a temple pyramid... Underneath the figures is a band of 30 glyphs dedicating the building to Ajwosaj Chan K'inich, ruler of Naranjo, a city-state south of Holmul allied to the Snake Lords of Calakmul... Estrada-Belli believes this passage describes a ritual re-establishment of a local god who had been ousted by the Tikal rulers when they conquered Holmul.

"Paganism and popular music share a love of physicality. Rooting this scholarly anthology not in beliefs constructed by modern society referring to nature, but arising rather from earth's own manifestations by cultural contexts, co-editor Donna Weston introduces 13 contributions to the study of Pagans and music now."

Wild Ginger Witch Camp (Saultstar.com)

"Whether they call it witchcraft, Wicca, paganism or the Craft, witches practise a nature-based religion that recognizes the earth itself as sacred. Witches celebrate the solstices and equinoxes, and the changing seasons, in a variety of ways. Many are also active in social causes and ecological concerns, such as the successful fight to stop the mega-quarry that threatened the aquifer near Honeywood. Occasionally, they also get together for events like Wild Ginger; church camp for witches."

Interview with Owen Davies, author of "America Bewitched: The story of witchcraft after Salem" (The Salem News)

"The descendants of colonial populations did not lose their fear of witches, and the millions of immigrants from myriad countries brought with them their own beliefs and concerns about witchcraft. I have come across witch assaults and murders in Irish, British, German, Italian, Swedish, Serbian, Mexican, and African-American communities."

Obama administration officially backs explicitly Christian prayers before public meetings (Los Angeles Times)

"In the current case, the Obama administration has told the court that Greece's practice should not be considered an endorsement. The town council's opening of its meetings with a Christian prayer "does not amount to an unconstitutional establishment of religion merely because most prayer-givers are Christian and many or most of their prayers contain sectarian references," wrote U.S. Solicitor Gen. Donald Verrilli Jr. He noted that the House and Senate had official chaplains and that the court in 1983 upheld opening prayers in state legislatures. If local councils may have religious invocations, the law should not require them to "closely police the content of prayers," he said.

The Fairies Are Back

The Fairies Are Back
For several weeks (okay, months) now, I've been struggling with trying to figure out exactly how to put all of my "Pagan home-schooling ideas" (swarming around in my head and written on scattered notes through the house) into wise and meaningful "Lessons" - not only for my own grand-children but for my readers and their families, too. There are dozens of things I want to share, through my (sadly-neglected) Pagan Homeschooling Blog, THE MOONLIT GROVE, to help others who are finding a drastic shortage of useful Pagan-based material for teaching their children.

"And then..."

I received an email from John Gallagher (of Learning Herbs) and realized I've been approaching this all wrong - trying to make this "much more difficult" than it really is! While I've been tackling this project as if I'll have to write "entire text Here is a FREE ACTIVITY PACK for you and your kids to start with right away (as shown in the image below). Mythology Creation Myths Do We Really

Mythology Creation Myths Do We Really Still Need Them
There are more creation myths amongst our world's many cultures than there are any other type of story. These myths are not meant to be taken literally, but they hold the basic profound truths held by each society. These myths are many and varied, but they all tell of how the world as we know it came to be.

Science is a fairly new concept. It has been around for as long as we have, but as with a lot of things, has only been labelled as separate and distinct in the last few hundred years. In fact, before the seventeenth century, the words "science" and "philosophy" were pretty much used interchangeably, modern day science having been born from the realm of ancient philosophy. Philosophy being the use of reason to explain general and fundamental problems.

Creation myths were one method of explaining how the world came to be, how a culture and it's associated deities came to be, without having to know the actual scientific mechanics of the process. They are meant as metaphore, a symbolic story that speaks directly with the sunconscious, with imagery to capture the imagination of our waking minds. A culture's creation myth will reflect their knowledge of the world, and their observations of their part to play within it.

The most famous creation myth of our western civilisation is that of Genesis - where God took six days to create the heavens and earth, to populate it, and to have enough spare time at the end of the project to sit back and relax. This is one popular mechanism of a creation myth, in that a Supreme Being actively moulds the world we live on, and places humankind at the pinnacle of their creation.

Many myths will contain a birth of some kind, whether of the world, or of a new generation of deities, more closely resembling human-kind who then go on to form the world and it's inhabitants. There can be one Supreme Being, two, or even more. The more "advanced" the culture, the more complex become their pantheons.

Some myths have divinity coming to an already existant but barren world. For example, one that is covered in water, and which the land is brought up from the bottom of the sea and then populated. Or, as with an Australian myth, the Mother-creation goddess coming down to a bare earth and giving form to plants, animals and humans.

The creation myths often attempt to explain the origins of the Sun and the Moon, day and night. Many will also explain a "fall from grace" of the peoples, acknowledging the imperfect nature of humanity.

I recently had cause to write a creation myth of my own. In fact I wrote two! I wanted to write a myth that would work with the state of modern scientific thinking, being compatible with the theories of quantum physics and the theories as to the evolution of the Universe until present day. A myth that mixed science with spirituality.

My other myth I wrote from the perspective of an ancient ancestor. No specified historical period nor culture, but one that was completely remote from a scientific background. One that attempted to explain the origins of the known world. I never thought that I could ever write a credible creation myth, would ever need a creation myth - I have science (and magick is definitely a science) but creation myths? They were for those less advanced or ancient cultures...weren't they?

Love and hugs

Darker Still On The Road

Darker Still On The Road

Goodness. What a whirlwind. I think I say that about every book tour, but no, seriously... what a whirlwind. See, I've been going non-stop since World Fantasy Convention at the end of October, right into Strangely Beautiful the musical staged reading rehearsals and performance (it went very well, thank you very much, as soon as I have more specifics I'll tell you but this is not that blog post) and right DIRECTLY the next day into "DARKER STILL" release day and tour. Whee! (Yes, I'm tired and a little punchy.)First off, we kicked it all off in NYC. I spoke to school librarians, did stock signings, various bouncings about the city and then we launched at WORD
Hanna of the awesome shirts border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">And two extremely talented writer gals who I love to cheerlead in their writing journeys, Hanna and Lizzy, were there at the hometown launch to make the night special. Hanna sported one of her amazing shirts she creates for the signings (it's become tradition, and I love it! Lord Denbury is rather flattered too). Thanks also to Hanna and family for the pictures left and above. Huge thanks to Edgewood teachers and alum who made it out to see me, you all mean more to me than I can say. And an extra extra special thanks to my best friend Marijo who came to all of my events and heard all the readings (along with my parents) multiple times. I know, I'm spoiled, they're good to me.

Percy border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I had the opportunity to do three signings in my home state, the next day I was at Joseph Beth in Cincinnati, (shout-out to my fave Steampunk designer, Angie of Festooned Butterfly, for making it out) and received a VERY special surprise. Remember the awesome artwork of Percy and Alexi I featured on this blog? Grace is from Ohio and I didn't put 2 and 2 together at first, I was too busy complimenting her gorgeous cameo and style, until I was signing the book "To Grace," and she slid this utterly magnificent drawn and painted picture of Percy and Alexi to me upon the signing table. My jaw dropped as I looked at their beautiful adorable-ness in their winter best. "Oh! You're THAT Grace!" I cried, and jumped up to hug her, and said to the crowd of friends, "remember the artist who rendered Percy and Alexi?" (friends and family nodded) This is her!" And I showed off my latest prize and there were lots of 'ooohs' and 'aaahhs'. It's so beautiful! It's now framed on my wall. What an amazing signing present! Such talent!

No rest for the wicked, it was back on a plane to NYC to participate in an amazing panel on fantastical literature at the incomparable In Ohio again, my Dayton signing at Books some of the most engaging and interesting students I'd ever met. In my first session, there were so many hands raised with awesome questions, I wanted to steal them all and take them with me to any school event I ever do. Some of those eager and intelligent faces showed up that night to the signing, braving a massive rainstorm to do so! The evening at was also made utterly fabulous by the appearance of three of my fave bloggers! Colette of A Buckeye Girl Reads, Dani of Refracted Light and Jenny aka "MISS SNARK" OVER AT SUPERNATURAL SNARK, CLICK HERE FOR AN AWESOME RUNDOWN AND FAB PICTURES. She's quite a talented photographer, as you can see from that gorgeous first picture!

Then, off to Milwaukee, Chicago and the Twin Cities all in the next three days. It's a bit of a blur, but I was warmed and inspired by talking to two groups of students at Cudahy High School and was thrilled to see some awesomely enthusiastic young folks turn up at my signing that evening at the Cudahy Library along with the "in laws" and my awesomely supportive parner (I really couldn't do all this without him). Then it was an Amtrak train into Union Station, and on to stock signings around and about Chicago, signing the next night at Anderson's Then the next day it was off to Minnesota sign stock all over the Twin Cities with a reading and signing at The Bookcase in Wayzata, where book blogger and engaging young author RACHEL BONGART brought a group of AWESOME fellow writers and readers, the night was made extra special by Rachel and her friends, I was inspired by their drive and story ideas, there's nothing more I love than to see talented young women passionate about storytelling. Kindred spirits, for sure. We all had a great chat about process, ideas, the business, etc, along with Twin Cities friends from my years in area theatre, including members of the Scribblerati Writers' Group. Keep an eye on these writers, they're going places.

Where am I going right now? To take a nice long nap would be nice. But there's no end in sight, really, I've Chicago Area: Barnes and Noble at State and Elm Chicago, Magic Tree WORD has kindly agreed to keep their special order page up!

Daniel Gustav Anderson Integral Theory After

Daniel Gustav Anderson Integral Theory After Wilber The Spearfish Position Paper
I like Daniel Gustav Anderson, so this new article over at Integral World is a welcome advance in the discussion of Post-Wilberian integral theory.

DANIEL GUSTAV ANDERSON is presently a graduate student in Cultural Studies at George Mason University. His interests include critical theory, ecology, and European and South Asian traditions of dialectical thinking. He is the author of "Of Syntheses and Surprises: Toward a Critical Integral Theory", "Such a Body We Must Create: New Theses on Integral Micropolitics" and "Sweet Science:" A Proposal for Integral Macropolitics", which have been published in "Integral Review".I think Anderson has some good ideas, and I also agree with him that none of us can engage with integral theory and not acknowledge the immense contribution and influence Wilber has had on the philosophy of integral. However, as much as I agree that we need to look beyond Wilber in the continuation of our formulation of an integral philosophy, I am not as quick as Anderson to dismiss Wilber's incredible importance to the ideas with which we must grapple.

INTEGRAL THEORY AFTER WILBER

The Spearfish Position Paper

DANIEL GUSTAV ANDERSON

Introduction:

I have claimed elsewhere ("Nonviolence") that the time has come to consider what integral theory after the intervention of Ken Wilber looks like, or could and should look like. This paper outlines one way to move forward.

Disclosure: I distinguish carefully between the work and the methods of Ken Wilber inclusive of its reception in integral studies as historical artifacts as the particular object of consideration at present, and not the personality or the biological person named Ken Wilber, who is not under consideration here.

1. Rationale:

Contrary to some appearances, the terms "integral studies, integral theory," and Ken Wilber" are not synonymous or conterminous. They are not the same thing and should not be equated. They should be considered instead as distinct from one another, and their relationship should be examined. How are they different?

Integral studies and integral pedagogy existed practically, theoretically, and institutionally well before Ken Wilber took up the term "integral" to describe his own work, as in the pioneering labor of Haridas Chaudhuri at California Institute of Integral Studies. Whatever one's evaluation of it, one must recognize that Ervin Laszlo's work lies squarely in the field of integral studies, but it is not an extension of Wilber's in any obvious sense. Historically, these objects (Wilberism and integral theory) are distinct. More abstractly, I have proposed that oppositional means of making knowledge arise in relation to different forms of social formation since capital began taking over the world ("Such a Body"), which would mean that something like or analogous to integral praxis is also as old as capitalism, which is to say, as old as modernity (of which more in a moment).

Secondly, Wilber's project is not producing new concepts anymore or participating on equal terms in the integral conversation. In a representative instance, Tomislav Markus's incisive review of the book "Integral Ecology", "Pitfalls of Wilberian Ecology", published at the Integral World website, shows how Wilber's metaphysical claims are repeated as a kind of catechism presented as science, instead of advancing a properly scientific method. Broadly, Integral Life is a means of selling integral products, commodities of conviction; not new concepts or new knowledge, but repackaged and recontextualized Wilber in the form of self-improvement products, for profit (Integral-brand coaching, Integral-brand spiritual practice, Integral-brand whatever-comes-next). Selling people your ideas as though they are uniquely epoch-making hardly constitutes the basis of a reasonable, good-faith conversation or debate. All this is a dead end for integral theory, profitable as it might (or might not?) be for Wilber and his circle. If knowledge-production is to be a form of service to a public or a world, it ought not to be singularly proprietary but instead a gift in an exchange, a free and open conversation among responsible persons.

Consequently, the presupposition that integral equals Wilber, that to do integral theory is to be a devotee of Ken Wilber, must be cut through and disposed of as so much spiritual materialism to make room for more productive work. Further, if my idea that oppositional means of knowledge, provisionally defined as forms of personal and cultural resistance to systematic injustice, unkindness, irresponsibility, and insanity in and out of one's mind-space constitute the historical birth of integral theory in a recognizable form has any merit (I admit it may or it may not), then it follows that one future for integral studies may lie in such critical practices. I make this claim with the qualification that not all oppositional practices and methods bear useful fruit; Stalinism, say, is a curse and not a blessing (and is not in my view oppositional at all, another debatable point); for this reason, analytic care and sober judgment are required in making positive claims about this or that method in any context. [Further, I will bracket the predictable counterargument that canonical integral writers such as Aurobindo, Gebser, Teilhard, or Wilber are not necessarily consistently or clearly oppositional in the sense I describe here, because this canon has yet to be justified except as a selection of writers Wilber and his followers tend to cite, that in itself surely an invitation to further inquiry.] So: forget "Spiral Dynamics", forget "The Passion of the Western Mind", take a pass on "The Integral Life Practice Starter Kit"? Instead reach for "Education for Critical Consciousness" and "The Arcades Project"? Yes, but not exactly that. Read the whole article.

Tarot Card Meaning For The Empress Rws And Thoth

Tarot Card Meaning For The Empress Rws And Thoth
Meanings Upright, Ill-dignified, and Reversed, RX

Rider Waite Smith, and Thoth

THE EMPRESS - MAJOR ARCANUM III

Astrological Association: Venus

Elemental Association: Earth

Occult Name: The Daughter of the Mighty Ones

Hebrew Letter: Daleth (door)

Timing: April 21st - May 20th (the same as the Hierophant), as well as September 23rd - October 22nd (the same as Justice). And Friday, by its association with Venus.

Kabbalistic Path: Between Chokmah and Binah

"Daleth"

Well we know that the Empress and the High Priestess are each half of the total female archetype. Whereas the Priestess speaks to us of mystery, movement, intuition, purity, and the veil of light concealing spirit; the Empress is only half a world away as she speaks of femininity, fertility, love, nurture, abundance, and hope.

There is another contrast to be drawn between the Empress and the Priestess as well. Whereas the Priestess is guarding access to the doorway to spirit; the Empress sits at that same portal, and brings those to be borne into this lifetime into our material plane. On a deeper level this creates yet another contrast. Whereas the Priestess guards the aforementioned Portal, the Empress is a facet of it.

Anywho... this card is telling us that that part of our obligation as spiritual beings is to love those around us with the same purity that we expect love directed towards us with.

And when it comes to taking care of our Earth, the Empress leads by example in protecting all things within it. She will help out within the community by giving when it seems right, and will most often feel that it is. "The Empress expects nothing in return. "

To live as unselfishly as she does draws the abundance represented by this card to us, as long as we do so from an absolutely pure intent, free of the anticipation of any reward. The Empress tells us that our positive actions towards others and to our world as a whole are mirrored back to us in terms of abundance and comfort. Once the Universe has rewarded us for our pure of heart actions, we are cautioned not to become complacent and ever take those fruits for granted.

The Empress is not speaking to us in terms of intellect. This doesn't mean that it doesn't exist in her world, she has enough to get by. Her greatest tool is in her ability to love in all ways, as a mother, daughter, friend, sister, or a lover. The Empress is the great nurturer; her message is that 'you reap as like that which you have sewn'.

Llewellyn Spell A Day Lilac Faerie Beauty Spell

Llewellyn Spell A Day Lilac Faerie Beauty Spell
Oh the lilacs are in bloom, it's spring, and it's Friday and Beltane is just around the corner! What a great time for some faerie beauty magic! The Flying Broom

The Flying Broom
This early association of broom to tree also associates it with the element of air and therefore has power over spirits. Thus it's common use as a tool for flying. In both historical and modern images a female witch can be found on a broom silhouetted by the full moon behind her.

Although most associate being a witch with women, it's a label that applies to both sexes. The first 'official' record that documents the claim of flying on a broom stick was recorded in 1453. The claim was made in a confession by a male witch named Guillaume Edelin.

There have been earlier documents recanting stories of Witches flying on a variety of sticks. Such as decorated walking sticks, limbs from a tree complete with it's leaves, or just a stick alone. These stories include details of magikal flying ointments being applied to these tools in order to give them flight.

In both ancient Witchcraft and Shamanistic practices the use of these ointments was most probably what gave the impression of Witch flight. Ointments and potions for flying were most likely a variety of hallucinagenics that assisted a Witch in visualizing a flight upon the broom. This is not uncommon for early Spiritual Journeys. Using peyote and other hallucinagenics is well documented and utilized by Native American cultures for Spiritual Travels.

These special 'trips' were controlled methods to quickly reach a state of altered awareness. From there a Witch could astral project with the image of flying on a broom to anywhere within their known Universe. The use by witches of flying ointments was first described, according to known sources, by Johannes Hartlieb in 1456. It was also described by the Spanish theologist Alfonso Tostado in Super Genesis Commentaria (Venetia, 1507), whose commentary tended to accredit the thesis of the reality of the Witches' Sabbath.

Today using these types of potions and ointments are not recommended or encouraged. Flying journeys instead are suggested through deep meditation and Astral Projection. These methods are not just safer, but they also provide the practitioner with more control and the ability to remember more of the journey itself.

How To Cast A Black Arts

How To Cast A Black Arts Witchcraft Spell Using A Voodoo Doll
Voodoo Doll Spells Are Extremely Powerful

Important: Ritual should be performed between midnight and 1 AM.

Spell Supplies Needed:

Black Cloth Voodoo Doll

(8)Pins

Goofer Dust

(2)Black Candles

Black Arts Incense

Black Arts Oil

Small Square of Parchment Paper

Spell Casting Instructions:

Start by naming the doll for your enemy. Take the paper and write your enemy's name on it. Fasten the name tag on the back of the Voodoo doll with one of the pins.

Lay the voodoo doll on your altar or table. Take the black candles and rub the Black Arts oil into them, all the while thinking hateful thoughts of your enemy. This will infuse the black candles with the proper spell vibrations.

Light the candles and set them on the table. Place the voodoo doll between the two burning

candles. Sprinkle some of the Black Arts oil onto the voodoo doll. Light some of the Black Arts incense. Concentrate on your hatred for your enemy as you stick the pins in the doll. Spread the pins around. Put some in the head, some in the heart.

As you insert each pin, chant:

(Name of Enemy)Be Damned!

Be Damned!

Repeat the chant a total of 7 times (once for each pin stick). Don't whisper the chant; be forceful. Put all of your energy into your spellwork.

Let the candles burn down into stubs.

After the candles burn out, sprinkle the voodoo doll with the goofer dust and any remaining Black Arts oil. Wrap the doll in a cloth and do not allow anyone to see it. Bury the doll and candle stubs in a location close to your enemy's residence. If this is

not possible, burn the doll and stubs and scatter the ashes on your enemy's property.

Elder Seraphim Tyapochkin And The Astonishing

Elder Seraphim Tyapochkin And The Astonishing Miracle Of St Nicholas
Archimandrite Seraphim (Tyapochkin) was born on 1/14 August 1894 in a pious noble family. The infant was called Dimitry and was the last child in the large and amicable family of the Tyapochkins. At the age of seven Dimitry was prematurely accepted into a religious institute. From a young age the boy felt God's summons and his priestly calling.

In 1911, having received his parents' blessing, Dimitry entered a religious seminary, and in 1917 he continued his studies at the Moscow Spiritual Academy. After the Academy was closed down in 1919, Dimitry Tyapochkin moved to Yekaterinoslav, where he was married and became ordained as a deacon and later a priest. These were the years of the godless Soviet rule's harshest battle with the Church. Everywhere sacred objects were profaned, churches and monasteries were destroyed, the clergy was persecuted. In 1933 Father Seraphim's beloved wife died, and in 1941 he was arrested and condemned to 10 years of concentration camps. Father Seraphim's path of suffering began in one of the camps in Kazakhstan. Father Seraphim did not like to talk of his life in camp, but it became known from his relatives that while he was in the camp, he continued his service as a faithful pastor of Christ's Church, led spiritual discussions with the prisoners, baptized new converts, confessed them, gave burial rites to the dead. All of this was strictly forbidden by the camp administration, and violation of the rules led to incarceration, from which one could often not return alive. Therefore, all services were held in the strictest secret from the administration. The prisoners themselves sang the services. They also prepared priestly vestments for Father Seraphim out of towels, and embroidered them with crosses. During these years in the camp Father Seraphim felt himself like a chalice, which was gradually, drop by drop, filling up with grace-filled love for God and others. At the same time his heart was becoming filled with simplicity and childish innocence. This was felt by all the prisoners who were in contact with him, even the most hardened criminals, and all of them trusted him completely.

After ten years of camp, before regaining freedom, the investigator asked Father Seraphim: "What are you planning to do when you are free?" Father Seraphim replied: "I will continue serving as a priest, just as I have up to now." - "Well, in that case," decided the investigator, "stay for a while yet." And Father Seraphim was sentenced to another five years and sent into exile in the Krasnoyarsk region.

After being freed from camp in 1955, Father was taken into the Kuybyshev diocese by its Bishop Jeronimus. In 1956 there occurred an event which shook the entire Orthodox world - the famous "Zoya's stand." Let us briefly bring back to mind that miracle.

A certain Zoya (or Zoe), who was a worker at a pipe factory, decided to celebrate New Year's Eve with her friends. Her religious mother was against merriment during Christmas Lent, but Zoya did not heed her. All the friends gathered, and only Zoya's fiance Nikolai was delayed somewhere. The music played, the young people danced, and Zoya alone had no pair. Mad at her fiance, Zoya took down an icon of St. Nicholas and said: "Since my Nicholas is not here, I will dance with St. Nicholas." At her girlfriend's counsel not to do it, Zoya arrogantly replied: "If there is a God, let Him punish me!" With these words she began dancing. At the third round the room became filled with great noise, a whirlwind appeared, a blinding light struck like lightning, and everyone ran out of the room in fear. Only Zoya remained rooted to the spot with the icon of St. Nicholas clamped to her breast, petrified and cold as marble.

She could not be moved from the spot, and her feet seemed to have grown into the floor. However, despite the lack of outward signs of life, Zoya was alive: her heart continued beating. From that time on she could neither drink, nor eat. The doctors applied all possible effort, but could not bring her to her senses. News of the miracle quickly spread all over the city, and many people came to look at Zoya's stand. But after a while the city administration suddenly realized what was happening, and all approaches to the house were barred, a police guard was put around the building, while the curious and visitors were told that there was no miracle and nothing had happened there at all.

The guard detail that stood at Zoya's post heard her cry out at night: "Mother! Pray! We are perishing in our sins! Pray!" Medical investigation confirmed that the young woman's heartbeat had not ceased despite the petrification of her tissues (they could not even give her any shots - all the needles broke off). All invited priests, after finishing their prayers, were unable to take the icon out of her frozen hands. But on the feast of Christ's Nativity Father Seraphim (then still Dimitry) came, served a moleben, and blessed the entire room. After that he took the icon out of Zoya's hands and said: "Now we must wait for a sign on the Great Day (i.e. Pascha)."

Before the feast of Annunciation a certain old man of noble appearance asked the guard to let him through. He was refused. He appeared on the next day, but the next shift did not let him through either. On the third day, on the very day of the feast, the guard did not detain him. The guards on duty heard the old man say to Zoya: "Well now, are you tired of standing?" Some time passed, but the old man did not come out. When they looked into the room, he could not be found (all the witnesses were sure that it was St. Nicholas himself who had appeared).

Zoya stood for 4 months, until the very day of Pascha. In the night of the bright Resurrection of Christ, Zoya loudly cried out: "Pray! It is terrible, the earth is burning! All the world is perishing in sin! Pray!" From that time she began to come alive, her muscles became softer, more pliable. She was laid in bed, but she continued to cry out and ask everyone to pray for the world perishing in sin and for the earth burning in iniquity.

By the prayers of St. Nicholas the Lord showed mercy upon her, accepted her repentance, and forgave her sins... All that happened so amazed the inhabitants of Kuybyshevo and its environs that many people turned to faith.

After Father Seraphim took the icon from Zoya, he was arrested. He spent two years in prison. He was forbidden to tell anyone of taking Zoya's icon, and after his term ended he was sent to serve in a distant village. However, a great flow of pilgrims continued to arrive there, wishing to venerate this miraculous icon, which always stood in the church where Father Seraphim served. After a while the authorities demanded that the icon be removed, and it was transferred to the altar.

In 1960 protopriest Dimitry Tyapochkin was tonsured into monasticism with the name of Seraphim, and the following year hieromonk Seraphim was made an abbot. At first no one came to the services in his village church, sometimes only two or three old women. The walls of the church were covered with frost, and snow fell from above. It was obviously necessary to begin repairs, find people, resources, materials. But Father Seraphim did not make any visible efforts to engage in reconstructive work. Except for daily prayer. And gradually help came. The Lord sent donors, helpers, builders, - all that was necessary.

Father Seraphim loved church services and was piously strict in following church rules. In the altar the elder stood with great awe and always served the liturgy in a pious condition. Father Seraphim considered sermons to be an integral part of the service and constantly preached in church. He spoke feelingly and with heartfelt conviction. To each listener was revealed that which was necessary to him at the moment. During confession Father Seraphim helped people open up their souls with all sincerity. He knew from experience that without help from above a person cannot offer true penitence to God, and so he himself, often with tears, quietly pleaded with God to send the grace of penitence to the sinners.

The Lord granted Father Seraphim a peaceful and blessed Christian end. He reposed in the Lord on April 19 (the 6th by the old calendar), 1982, on the second day of Christ's bright Resurrection.

Who Does God Hate

Who Does God Hate

INTRODUCTION:

God is the most awesome spiritual force ever. He indeed is Love on a level that most of us could never understand. If it wasn't for him manifesting himself as a human on earth, as his spirit son Jesus, we would not be able to comprehend him. But how is it that God, who is the essence of the ultimate LOVE, can actually hate something? Well it's best that you understand your own human-ness for a moment. Since God made us in his image, I propose we have much more in common that you might realize.

Inside of each of us is a thin line between hate and love. But God, the Almighty has this right as the creator of everything... EVERYTHING. This demands a respect and awe that most of us just don't really get. How many of us have got into a fight with our spouse and felt a surge of anger that borderlined on hate. But after we forgave them... we loved them none-the-less? Isn't it funny how easy it is to understand YHWH God when you give him the credit for making us in his own image. How unbelievably cool is that?

But let's give credit where credit is due. He is the "MAN". (said tongue in cheek). We have forgotten the concept of respecting authority. God is allowed to be "jealous" because he is God. But we are expected to follow his rules and that means to "respect his authority" and do as he says. Period. (cliches aside). We are to fear only him. But if you really understand his love for you... this would be a concept that is easy to embrace. If you knew how Glorious your eternity will be with him (Jesus Christ) as your Lord, giving him this respect would come "naturally" and with total "awe".

So am I saying that we are not allowed to hate anyone, or be jealous of anyone, but YHWH God is? You bet! In fact, God hates sin. He makes no bones about it. But if you ask forgiveness directly to HIM ONLY, then he gives it. As long as you really mean it. And "meaning it" means that in your heart, you intend to change and do better next time. And unlike the enemy, God CAN see into your heart. So don't MESS AROUND. There is far too much at stake. I hope you make it through this "test"on earth to the "other side", so you can see for yourself.

That being said, God hates Esau. Look it up. But who is Esau and who are his descendants? Well I present to you, In Jesus Name, the answer to that question. It costs me a mere 20 a month to belong to the Koinonia Institute of "Pastor Chuck Missler" fame, but it is worth every penny. While I do not
-

There are more Bible passages pronouncing judgment on the Edomites than on any other nation.1 But who are they? What relevance do they have for us today? As diligent students of the Word of God, it is essential for us to understand who they are and what eschatological implications they may have on our present geopolitical horizon.

THE EVERLASTING HATRED

The covenant birthright was a point of contention between Sarah vs. Hagar,2 Isaac vs. Ishmael,3 and which then became the root of the hb'yae ~l'A[ olam ebah-the "Everlasting Hatred"-beginning in the womb with Esau and Jacob, and Esau's sub-sequent contempt of the covenant birthright,4 and resulting in Esau's spiteful intermarriage with the Ishmaelites, which con-tinued the "everlasting hatred" to this very day.5 Recognition of this "Everlasting Hatred"-and its embodiment in Islam-is essential to our understanding its eschatological implications, as well as the daily newscasts that dominate our mainline press.

The tensions continued as Israel, after the exodus from Egypt, was denied passage through their land of Edom.6 The misleading nature of the maps in many of our Bibles cause us to assume that the Edomites were confined east of the Jordan, south of Moab. However, the Edomites ("Idumeans" in Greek), under pressure from the Nabateans in the east, migrated west and established their own "Idumea" (see map, right).

MIGRATION INTO "IDUMEA"

Nomadic Nabateans migrated out of Arabia into Edom and drove the Edomites westward. Directly west of Edom were established routes of passage. Land there was historically more prosperous and resourceful than the land of Edom, which consisted of infertile deserts and jagged mountains. Further-more, the land bore a family association: after all, Esau was Jacob's brother.

Hebron, 19 miles south of Jerusalem and 3400 ft. above sea level, became their new capital: established 1500 years earlier, unlike Jerusalem, it was left intact as prime real estate after the Babylonian deportation under Nebuchadnezzar.

As the Babylonians took Judah into captivity, and angry soldiers wrecked the walls, slew the people, and burned the city, we could have observed their neighboring citizens-the Edomites-encourage the Babylonians to ruin the city: "Raze it! Raze it!" they were calling. "Dash their little children against the stones and wipe out the Jews!"7

Hebron remained under Edomite control until Judas Maccabeus retook the city under Jewish control in 164 B.C. Thirty-eight years later, in 126 B.C., they had to be reconquered by the Jewish Army under prince and high priest John Hyrcanus. A pivotal event then took place in which Idumeans were forced to be proselytized into Judaism or flee or die. This resulted in many Idumeans pretending to become Jews, yet really were not.8

In 47 B.C. Julius Caesar promoted the Idumean Antipater as procurator over Judea, Samaria and Galilee. In 37 B.C., the Romans named Herod, son of Antipater, as King over Israel. (His mother was Nabatean). Thus, the Herods of the New Testament were Edomites: One of them killed the Jewish babies in his attempt to destroy Christ;9 another Herod murdered John the Baptist; another one killed James the brother of John.10

These "almost Jews" were-to the Roman mind-more comfortable than the true Jews. The Idumeans had five centuries of prior history in Israel by the time of the arrival of the Messiah Jesus.11 The struggle between the Israelis and the Arabs today is but a continuation of this same hatred that began in Genesis 25:21-26.

OBSCURE LABELING

Specificity can, in some cases, be critical. Metaphors reign where mysteries reside. At the time of the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., there was civil turmoil among the Zealots, the Idumeans, and the Orthodox Jews. Twenty thousand Idumean infantry slaughtered many of the Orthodox Jews. Yet, many also fought with the Jews against the Romans. Many were killed, sold into slavery, or many were among the 40,000 set free by Caesar. The distinctive hatred of the Idumeans had become obscured to the Roman mind.

During the subsequent revolt under Bar Kokhba, there were about 200,000 men at his command, with which he recaptured Jerusalem and many strongholds throughout the country. Emperor Hadrian called legion upon legion to crush the Jewish insurgents. Over 580,000 lost their lives.

Hadrian committed himself to stamp out Jewish national-ism entirely. Traditions such as circumcision, the Sabbath, and reading the Torah became forbidden under penalty of death. He also resolved to rename the region after the Jew's worst enemy.

The Romans had two primary choices: Idumea or Philistia. Idumeans were viewed as practitioners of Judaism, and the tensions among them were regarded as simply a family squab-ble. They did not view the Idumeans as great an enemy to the Jews as the Philistines, so they named the region "Palestina," which is the Latin for Philistia. Until 135 A.D., after the Bar Kokhba revolt, maps still dis-played Idumea. However, after the Romans chose to name the region "Palestina," Idumea disappeared from future maps and history. The Edomites, subsequently known as Idumeans, be-came assimilated into the "Palestinians" of today. The "tents of Edom" featured in Psalm 83 appear as refugee camps in the propaganda of the Palestine Authority today.

Furthermore, many orthodox Jews today continue to view the international "globalists" as Edomites, a term they regard as referring to Rome or any other ruling empire...

THE EXAMPLE OF AMSCHEL MOSES BAUER

In 1743 a goldsmith named Amschel Moses Bauer opened a coin shop in Frankfurt, Germany. He hung above his door a sign depicting a Roman eagle on a red shield. The shop became known as the Red Shield firm.

Amschel Bauer had a son, Mayer Amschel Bauer. At a very early age Mayer showed that he possessed immense intellectual ability, and his father spent much of his time teaching him everything he could about the money lending business and in the basic dynamics of finance.

A few years after his father's death in 1755, Mayer went to work in Hannover as a clerk in a bank owned by the Oppenheimers. Mayer's superior ability was quickly recognized and his advancement within the firm was swift. His success allowed him the means to return to Frankfurt and to purchase the business his father had established in 1743.

The big Red Shield was still displayed over the door. Recognizing the true significance of the Red Shield (his father had adopted it as his emblem from the Red Flag which was the emblem of the revolutionary minded Jews in Eastern Europe), Mayer Amschel Bauer changed his name to Rothschild, the German word for "red shield." It was at this point that the House of Rothschild came into being.

Through his experience with the Oppenheimers, Mayer Rothschild learned that loaning money to governments and kings was much more profitable than loaning to private individuals. Not only were the loans bigger, but they were secured by the nation's taxes.

Mayer Amschel Rothschild had five sons, Amschel, Salomon, Nathan, Karl and Jakob. Mayer spent the rest of his life instructing them all in the secret techniques of money creation and manipulation. As they came of age, he sent them to the major capitals of Europe to open branch offices of the family banking business. Amschel stayed in Frankfurt, Salomon was sent to Vienna, Nathan was sent to London, Karl went to Naples, and Jakob went to Paris.

In 1838 Nathan made the following statement: "Permit me to issue and control the money of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws."

The saga continues, in the minds of many, with involvements of Adam Weishaupt with the Illuminati; the secret meetings on Jekyll Island that established the Federal Re-serve; and, other tales of struggle for global power. Apparently there may be some who still appear today as "Jews" but, in actuality, are not.

I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

Revelation 2:9; cf. 3:9

Many thanks to Bill Salus and his book, Isralestine, from which much of the material in this series was taken. There certainly seems to be fruitful ground for the diligent inquirer. The tale has yet to run its full course. (Study the references in Note #1.)
