Gifts from Stacy

Most unexpected, a packet arrived for me in the mail. What on Earth? I think. Did I win a giveaway? Nope. A sweet, dear friend sent me the most thoughtful gifts of sage (for my Autumn fires) and a beautiful charm bag.

Inside this glimmery, glittery little bag were four stones that Stacy from Magic Love Crow blog

chose for me when she attended her fave Gemhound show. The colors of the stones symbolize a "robin", the wild bird. I was so moved by her thoughtfulness and want to say a big, public THANK YOU to my dear friend Stacy. These stones are treasures for my altar. If you would like to see some wonderful artistic paintings, please visit Stacy's blog. She is amazing, energetic and very very creative.

Another unexpected "gifting" was from Kim of The Wiccan Life blog

who gave me a lovely award, "Very Inspired Blogger Award". Thanks so much for thinking of me Kim, I appreciate your kind and generous gift. Kim herself is a recipient of many awards, and I just love her blog. She has a Witchy Cat blog too. Please visit Kim and say hi from Robin.

The kittens are growing and getting sweeter everyday. Their separate personalities are becoming very distinct. I will be posting on my other blog, Purrrrsnickitty a bunch of cute photos and updates. The kittens received some unexpected things as well.

Wow, August is coming to end very quickly. Looking forward to the Blue Moon on August 31st!

True Love

True Love
Since it is Valentine's Day I thought I might share some quotes from JPII on what love really is. Please reflect on these wonderful passages on this day of "love".

In its most profound reality, love is essentially a gift; and conjugal love, while leading the spouses to the reciprocal "knowledge" which makes them "one flesh," does not end with the couple, because it makes them capable of the greatest possible gift, the gift by which they become cooperators with God for giving life to a new human person. Thus the couple, while giving themselves to one another, give not just themselves but also the reality of children, who are a living reflection of their love, a permanent sign of conjugal unity and a living and inseparable synthesis of their being a father and a mother.Love in marriage is therefore necessarily about the "other".

God created man in His own image and likeness: calling him to existence through love, He called him at the same time for love. God is love and in Himself He lives a mystery of personal loving communion. Creating the human race in His own image and continually keeping it in being, God inscribed in the humanity of man and woman the vocation, and thus the capacity and responsibility, of love and communion. Love is therefore the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being. As an incarnate spirit, that is a soul which expresses itself in a body and a body informed by an immortal spirit, man is called to love in his unified totality. Love includes the human body, and the body is made a sharer in spiritual love. Christian revelation recognizes two specific ways of realizing the vocation of the human person in its entirety, to love: marriage and virginity or celibacy. Either one is, in its own proper form, an actuation of the most profound truth of man, of his being "created in the image of God."Our imaging of God is not merely a spiritual imaging, but a bodily one as well.

The human body, with its sex, and its masculinity and femininity seen in the very mystery of creation, is not only a source of fruitfulness and procreation, as in the whole natural order. It includes right from the beginning the nuptial attribute, that is, "the capacity of expressing love, that love in which the person becomes a gift" and-by means of this gift-fulfills the meaning of his being and existence. Our meaning is "caught up" into the revelation of God, which is revealed through our bodies and giftedness!

The heart has become a battlefield between love and lust. The more lust dominates the heart, the less the heart experiences the nuptial meaning of the body. It becomes less sensitive to the gift of the person, which expresses that meaning in the mutual relations of man and woman. Certainly, that lust which Christ speaks of in Matthew 5:27-28 appears in many forms in the human heart. It is not always plain and obvious. Sometimes it is concealed, so that it passes itself off as love, although it changes its true profile and dims the limpidity of the gift in the mutual relationship of persons. Does this mean that it is our duty to distrust the human heart? No! It only means that we must keep it under control.JPII pray for us

The Possession Of Mercy Short

The Possession Of Mercy Short
In 1692, a Boston servant girl was sent by her mistress on an errand. En route, she was asked for some tobacco by a poor woman on the street.

The servant girl, named Mercy Short, threw wood shavings at the woman and said, "There's tobacco good enough for you!" The woman cursed at her, and Mercy completed her errand. Just another day in Puritan Boston, right?

The woman who cursed her was Sarah Good, of Salem Village, who was later executed after being accused of witchcraft. When Mercy returned home she was afflicted with fits for several days, but they abated after she fasted. OK, so maybe it wasn't just another day in Boston, but it wasn't so bad. At least the fits cleared up!

Mercy wasn't out of the woods, though. About a year after her encounter with Sarah Good, she once again became afflicted with fits, but this time with a twist: the Devil came to visit her.

He was a wretch no taller than an ordinary Walking-Staff; hee was not of a Negro, but of a Tawney, or an Indian colour; hee wore an high-crowned Hat, with strait Hair; and had one Cloven-Foot.

The Devil came with specters, who looked like neighbors and people that Mercy knew. They tormented her and urged her to pledge herself to Satan by signing a red-lettered Book of Death. Only then would they stop torturing her. She didn't even have to actually sign - just touching the book with her little finger would suffice for Mercy to give herself to Satan.

Copp's Hill Burying Ground, Boston

Mercy refused, so her fits continued, but in a spectacular fashion.

* The Devil and his specters blinded her and stopped up her ears, so at times she was unaware of her surroundings and the neighbors and ministers who came to help her.
* They pinched her and stabbed her with small pins. Witnesses saw small bloody marks appear on her body, and pulled physical pins from her limbs.
* Mercy's hellish tormentors poured a white liquid down her throat, which made her "swell prodigiously, and bee just like one poisoned with a Dose of Rats-bane."
* Cotton Mather visited Mercy, and witnessed the following: "They would Flash upon her the Flames of a Fire, that was to Us indeed (tho not unto her) Invisible... Wee saw Blisters thereby Raised upon her."
* Mercy was forced to speak profanely and sarcastically about people she knew and refused to listen to discussions about God or religion.

In the late winter of 1693, Governor Phips visited Mercy at her request. She told him that the Book of Death, the Devil's book itself, was hidden in the attic of a wealthy neighbor's house. The governor directed one of the neighbor's servants to retrieve it.

When the Servant was Examining the place directed, a great Black Cat, never before known to bee in the House, jumping over him, threw him into such a Fright and Sweat, that altho' hee were one otherwise of Courage enough, he desisted at that Time from looking any further.

Finally in March of 1693 a good spirit appeared to Mercy and told her she would be delivered from the Devil's torments on Thursday, March 16. On that Thursday, the spectres came but were unable to harm Mercy, no matter how hard the Devil exhorted them. They departed and Mercy was free.

It's an amazing story, and similar to many demonic possession stories across the centuries, but Mercy had a traumatic experience before her possession that helps shed light on it.

In March of 1690, Mercy and her family were abducted from their home in New Hampshire by Wabanaki Indians. Mercy's parents and several of her siblings were killed, and Mercy was held captive in Quebec for eight months before being sent to Boston. It seems likely that her possession was a way for her to deal with horrific experience she had. It's no coincidence that Mercy saw the Devil as an Indian. Living in a society without psychological concepts like trauma and PTSD, Mercy dealt with her experiences using the ideas available to her.

D. Brent Simmons, in his book "Witches, Rakes and Rogues", notes that in 1694 Mercy married a man from Nantucket, but the marriage didn't last. Mercy was found guilty of adultery and excommunicated from the Puritan church. She returned to Boston, and her gravestone can still be seen in Copp's Hill Burying Ground in the North End.

In addition to Simmons' book, I found my information in Cotton Mather's narrative about Mercy Short, "A Brand Pluck'd Out of the Burning".

Robert Bruce Training To See Auras

Robert Bruce Training To See Auras
In parapsychology, spirituality and New Age belief, an aura is a subtle field of luminous multicolored radiation surrounding a person or object as a cocoon or halo. An aura may be held to represent or be composed of soul vibrations or chakras, and may reflect the moods or thoughts of the person it surrounds.

It is believed that auras may be viewed by the naked eye, though some psychics, like Edgar Cayce, believe this ability weakens with age. Focused training may be undergone in an attempt to improve one's ability to see auras. Layers of aura are seen as separate and distinct, yet connected to all of the remaining layers. Auras are also thought of as special kind of shields which certainly have more defensive power. It is very likely that the detection of odic force is a similar phenomenon.

Christian Theology Can We Turn Away

Christian Theology Can We Turn Away
Q. To demonstrate my belief in OSAS I quoted John 10:27-30 on my Facebook page. "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father`s hand. I and My Father are one."

In response someone wrote, "No one can snatch. But we can turn away. 2 Peter 2:20 How would you reply to that?

A. All of 2 PETER 2 is about false teachers. By their actions it's clear that although they knew the truth they weren't converted by it. Believers have the Holy Spirit within us as a guarantee of our inheritance (EPHES 1:13-14) God has placed His seal of ownership on us (2 COR. 1:21-22) and Jesus promised never to lose even one of us (JOHN 6:39). No where does the Bible describe this guarantee being revoked or reversed. In fact in the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus describes going after us to bring us back if we wander away (LUKE 15:1-6).

Speaking of these false teachers, John wrote, They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us" (1 JOHN 2:19).

Review: The Cosmic Tarot

Review The Cosmic Tarot
The Cosmic Tarot is a deck that I found this year, created by Norbert Losche. He is a self-taught artist that currently lives in Germany. The first Cosmic Tarot was published in 1986.

I have been using the Waite-Smith deck for a few years now, and I had come to depend on it's symbolism and meanings for me. So when i discovered the Cosmic Tarot, it took me quite a few readings before it started to 'speak' to me in it's own language of symbolism. The deck is 78 cards, with a LWB [little white book]. The book has basic meanings, but there is also a supplementary book that was published for this deck : The Cosmic Tarot: Signposts Along the Path, From Laura E. Clarson. I like this deck, and I may eventually get this book so that I can enjoy this deck even more!

The artist created the art for these cards using ink and pastels, so they have a soft and dreamy look. The images on the cards were inspired by some actors and actresses, like Greta Garbo, Clark Gable and Rita Hayworth. This deck is smaller in size than the Waite-Smith and it is easy to handle. These cards are very detailed and the figures, the faces and hands are all beautifully rendered, something that I appreciate from a realistic, artist style deck.

Why I love this deck

With my experience in tarot reading, I found that its only a matter of reading style when using this deck. Some elements from this deck were inspired by the Waite-Smith, and other parts of it are inspired by the imagery of the Thoth; but the artwork is generally in a modern setting, with modern figures and scenes, and I like this. It's a different style than the traditional WS deck, because the colors are more vibrant and there is much more detail to be enchanted with while reading. The symbolism of this deck took me a while to understand, but now that I've read with it for so long, I have been very happy with the results, and I use it often when I am ready to discover the message within the Cosmic Tarot Deck.

I am reading tarot by email. Replies are 24 hours or less. Visit my Tarot Page for more information.
