MOON IN VIRGO - The Moon in Virgo sends us back to work and gives a to-do list. We become impatiently aware of what needs to be improved, fixed or healed. Our compassion is strong, but we can get irritated at less industrious folk. This transit is a time to weed, edit, critique, care, exercise, investigate, study, heal, but remember to be gentle with other. During this transit important issues are practicality, organization, cleaning up your diet or your home, healing your body or offering healing to others and attending to loose ends. After the Leo party it's a time to clean up our act and turn our attentions to the matter of our health and hygiene. This is a time of taking responsibility and cleaning up the messes we've been leaving. Virgo brings painstaking attention to details; housecleaning is a good way to work through a Virgo transit. During a Virgo Moon transit women are mentally active but there is a tendency to excessive criticism both of oneself and others. Emotionally it's an inward time, when we can reflect on personal relationships. Moon in Virgo is the best time to work magick involving employment, intellectua matters, health and dietary concerns. Healing rituals for ailments of the intestines or nervous system are also done during this period of time. Those who were born under a Virgo Moon are curious, responsible, caring but need cultivate gentle acceptance of self and others.

WODEN'S DAY - Mercury Day, the Day of Communication and Conncection... there are minor magickal energies for divination and working Elemental magick.

ELEMENTAL MAGICK

Deborah Lipp says in the beginning of her book "The Way of Four "this: "In Wicca and much of occult, the four elements of Fire, Water, Air and Earth describe the universe and everything in it. Everything can be understood as taking part in one or more elements. Everything this is whole contains all four, and can be understood more deeply by dividing it into four and viewing it through a lens. The elements are the building blocks of creation; they are the beginning of "things. "The undifferentiated void that preceeded creation had no elements, or to put it another way, all elements are One. But creation - things, reality - consists of the elements... The four elements give us a way of thinking about the world. They give us a structured approach to knowing the unknowable. They provide us with a system of interrelations and magick is all about interraltions."

Here is a link to an About.com website that give us more information about the Elements and how they can work in our magick spells and rituals:

Good Friday Superstition Don't Do Laundry

Good Friday Superstition Dont Do Laundry Youll Wash The Head Of The House Away
I chose this topic because it's probably something that not many people have heard of. The PURPOSE of this post is to enlighten people on this growing superstition and see where exactly it came from. Growing up, I was brought up Roman Catholic and was always told never to do wash on Good Friday because it would wash the head of the household away. Here's some INFORMATION about the topic at hand: Good Friday is considered a day of rest and a day to repent sins as well as partaking in lent. It symbolizes the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This was a saying that I learned which started with my great grandmother and was passed down over the years. I wanted to see if my family was just crazy or if there was something legitimate behind it. In fact, it is mentioned in the Bible. It was said that it was dangerous to wash clothes on Good Friday because clothes hung out on that day would be stained with blood. The story from the bible says that as Jesus was walking along with the cross, a woman was washing clothes and he cursed her because she threw dirty water on him. The taboo superstition that came from this is that women who washed clothes on Good Friday would be cursed with bad luck or death. The QUESTION is, is this legitamite or pseudoscience? Well, while religion is something people thoroughly believe in and hope is right, it cannot be proven which therefore makes this notion pseudoscience. My POINT OF VIEW is as such: as ridiculous as it may sound, part of me is still a little leary about doing wash on that day because of how I've been taught and brought up and my religion. Maybe I'm too superstitious, but I'd be afraid to go against it now, myself, personally.

Blackwind Spell

Blackwind Spell
Blackwind is a spell to cause effects of bad luck through an area. But the spell could backlash to the person who casts it. Use one to three candles of minority colors to withstand from red as it binds, the person into almost disaster with the spell itself. The chant after lighting the candles in a circular pattern and a triangle with the three candles at the points. There can or can't be a bowl or glass dish in the middle. Now the process is to place a picture or something of the area in the middle. The short version is "fail" or "failure", "falur", "banal" while looking at the target in picture or thinking of the area. You cast this by not effecting a presence near the area of the spell. Only the short version can be done without the ritual but twice the chance of failure.

This is the nonverbal form. Imagine the person, and imagine a whole bunch of bad things happening to them, and then after you basically dream up their own personal hell, add two conditionals thought on: "Make sure that they gain lessons from all of these things that will change them from who they are, and make them better." and "If they become better, then halt the curse. If they begin again, begin it once again."

This chant consists of 6 lines and is the verbal form:

"Three times the wind blows"

"With failure in the area"

"So this caster is unaffected and the target is"

"Ruled by corruption and the laws of bad luck"

"Make better, If they become better, then halt the curse."

" If they begin again, begin it once again."

This chant is different as it uses Egyptian force craft:

"umbideu loseus lobran"

"socrac marwin wiuwin"

"lebrosia marksi verbont"

"ruby corrut ilabalu"

"ifbeco beta hythex"

"ifbei agabei acaga"

A Lammas Harvest Ritual

A Lammas Harvest Ritual
In some Wiccan traditions, Lammas is the time of year when the Goddess takes on the aspects of the Harvest Mother. The earth is fruitful and abundant, crops are bountiful, and livestock are fattening up for winter. However, the Harvest Mother knows that the cold months are coming, and so she encourages us to begin gathering up what we can. This is the season for harvesting corn and grain, so that we can bake bread to store and have seeds for next year's planting. If you would like to hold a Lammas harvest ritual, here's how:

WHAT YOU NEED:

* A candle to represent the Harvest Mother
* Stalks of wheat
* A loaf of bread
* Ritual wine (optional)

This ritual celebrates the beginning of the harvest season and the cycle of rebirth, and can be done by a solitary practitioner or adapted for a group or coven setting. Decorate your altar with symbols of the season - sickles and scythes, garden goodies like ivy and grapes and corn, poppies, dried grains, and early autumn foods like apples. If you like, light some Lammas incense.

Have a candle on your altar to represent the Harvest Mother - choose something in orange, red or yellow. These colors not only represent the blaze of the summer sun, but also the coming changes of autumn. You'll also need a few stalks of wheat and an un-sliced loaf of bread (homemade is best, but if you can't manage, a store-bought loaf will do). A goblet of ritual wine is optional.

If your tradition requires you to cast a circle, do so now.

LIGHT THE CANDLE, AND SAY:

The Wheel of the Year has turned once more,

and the harvest will soon be upon us.

We have food on our tables, and

the soil is fertile.

Nature's bounty, the gift of the earth,

gives us reasons to be thankful.

Mother of the Harvest, with your sickle and basket,

bless me with abundance and plenty.

Hold the stalks of wheat before you, and think about what they symbolize: the power of the earth, the coming winter, the necessity of planning ahead. What do you need help planning right now? Are there sacrifices you should be making in the present that will be reaped in the future?

Rub the stalks between your fingers so a few grains of wheat fall upon the altar. Scatter them on the ground as a gift to the earth. If you're inside, leave them on the altar for now - you can always take them outside later. Say:

The power of the Harvest is within me.

As the seed falls to the earth and is reborn each year,

I too grow as the seasons change.

As the grain takes root in the fertile soil,

I too will find my roots and develop.

As the smallest seed blooms into a mighty stalk,

I too will bloom where I landed.

As the wheat is harvested and saved for winter,

I too will set aside that which I can use later.

Tear off a piece of the bread. If you're performing this ritual as a group, pass the loaf around the circle so that each person present can take off a small chunk of bread. As each person passes the bread, they should say:

"I pass to you this gift of the first harvest."

When everyone has a piece of bread, say:

As the grain dies, it transforms to bread,

and brings us life through the winter.

We bless this bread, and it blesses us in return,

and we are thankful for the gift of the harvest.

Everyone eats their bread together. If you have ritual wine, pass it around the circle for people to wash the bread down. Once everyone has finished their bread, take a moment to meditate on the cycle of rebirth and how it applies to your own life - physically, emotionally, spiritually. When you are ready, if you have cast a circle, close it or dismiss the quarters at this time. Otherwise, simply end the ritual in the manner of your tradition.

Marketing 101 Selling Israel For Almost 50 Years

Marketing 101 Selling Israel For Almost 50 Years
1962-1963 US Public Relations Plan (click through to see original document)

American Zionist Council

Committee on Information and Public Relations

The Committee carries on a major part of its work through highly specialized subcommittees composed of professionals in specific areas of activity who volunteer their services to the American Zionist Council. It is the subcommittee chairmen who have been instrumental, for the most part, in mobilizing these experts to serve with them to help interpret Israel to the general American public. In addition, the AZC staff carries on a number of activities on its own without benefit of these volunteers.

1. Magazines

Cultivation of editors.

Stimulation and placement of suitable articles in the major consumer magazines.

Reprinting and distribution of favorable materials which appear in the above publications.

Stimulation of articles in trade and specialized journals.

Liaison with writers resident in Israel via a literary agent in New York for ideas and placement.

2. TV, Radio, Films

The department arranges for talks and interviews on Radio and TV, and servicing of film requests.

It also cultivates leading personalities in these media.

It encourages networks and stations to create programs revolving around Israel.

3. Christian Religious Groups

Cultivation of key religious leaders and groups.

Setting up seminars on Israel for Christian clergy.

Stimulating of positive articles in the Protestant and Catholic press.

Counteraction of hostile material in that press.

Reprints and distribution of favorable materials in the church press.

Stimulation of suitable articles in the journals of the Jewish religious groups.

4. Academic Circles

Support of the American Association for Middle East Studies.

Support of the Inter-University Committee on Israel.

Cultivation of leaders in the academic community.

Stimulation of "Israel Day" on college campuses.

Cooperation with colleges and universities in setting up of seminars on the Middle East.

Monitoring and counteraction of materials in the campus press.

Stimulating of articles in academic journals.

Guidance to student Zionists and other Jewish students on Arab-Israel issues.

Counteraction of hostile faculty and Arab students.

Preparation of materials for elementary and high school faculty.

5. Daily Press

Cultivation of editors.

Stimulation of positive material via syndicated writers, columnists, etc.

Counteraction of hostile material.

Reprinting and distribution of favorable materials.

6.
Issuance of special material and guidance on controversial issues such as Arab refugees, Syrian-Israel situation, etc.

Programming for special occasions such as Yom Haatzmaut, etc.

10. Visitors to Israel

Subsidization to individual public opinion molders to help provide them with an experience in Israel.

Inter-University Committee Study Tour to Israel.

Organize other tours in which public opinion molders will participate.

Provide suitable arrangements in Israel for handling of American visitors.

11. Counteracting the Opposition

The monitoring and counteraction of all activities carried out here by the Arabs, American Friends of the Middle East, and the American Council for Judaism.

12. Miscellaneous

Answering requests for information and providing suitable literature for the many thousands of requests annually received.

And you can see how this marketing plan, 45+ years later, is working out.

As shown by our Media Report Cards, the American press tends to provide extremely distorted coverage of the Israel-Palestine conflict. There are a number of factors that contribute to this troubling pattern of omission and misrepresentation. One of them is bias. In this section, we will provide information about how bias influences media coverage of this topic, and where this bias originates.

How Important Is Historical Accuracy

How Important Is Historical Accuracy
Ive been reading Mark Carters book "Stalking the Goddess" for the last couple days, and Im really digging it. Its a critical analysis of Robert Graves "The White Goddess (TWG)", and it kind of reads like it was Carters doctoral thesis. Not that theres anything wrong with publishing your thesis as a book, but it tends to be rather dry. Im okay with dry, but for the average reader of Pagan But then I took a step back and asked myself, "really, though, how important is it that there be historical accuracy in these foundational texts?"

Wicca, like many religious movements, was designed by people who were so moved by these works that they developed this religious system that sparked a global spiritual change. Most people look to this mythological narrative of triple goddess, and the oak king/holly king, and they find meaning there for their lives. The fact that it was invented, rather than re-discovered as some ongoing ancient religion, is pretty much irrelevant to the system of faith, because the faith of Wicca does not look to these In a previous post I wrote about Wicca (and Neo-Paganism more broadly) as a religion of "revealed truth." When I said that, I was speaking about this direct, experiential connection to the Gods. Each of us comes to understand The Mystery in our own, unique and beautiful way. It is that unique experience that is the Revelation of our faith. Graves, Murray, Frazer, and Gardner were all looking for something and they built a narrative to fit their belief. Academically speaking this is unacceptable, and must be questioned, analyzed, and replaced with a more accurate historic narrative. Theologically speaking, we can accept that this is historically inaccurate, and yet still spiritually relevant.

Should we continue to perpetuate the historically inaccurate narrative of matriarchal Goddess worship? No. But, we dont have to, because we dont need to. Goddess worship is alive, contemporary, and is bringing us new and valuable insights into the journey of the spirit all the time. The fact that it is a modern religion does not diminish its value. But it does underscore the necessity of judging it on its current activities, and the impact that it has in peoples lives right now, versus criticizing it for being built on shaky scholarship.

Yes, it came from people. Empassioned, inspired, and somewhat misguided, but identifiable people. The problem with most every other religion is that we are so vastly removed from their origins that their twisted roots have grown miles of thickets and acres of forests and we can never really know their sources. With contemporary faiths, those with the misfortune of arriving on the scene after the mass trasmission written language and scholarly footnotes, we are able to see in plain sight the errors of our founders ways. Frankly, Im way more okay with that. We cant claim that our religion was inscribed in magical plates, or that it was God HIMSELF who transmitted this knowledge to some dude with a robe and a village to lead. Nope. It was people, and they believed this. Fallible, prone to confirmation bias, wanting so desperately for their belief to be true that they wrote these spurious works.

But they saw something; something beautiful, powerful, and worth finding. So they led us there.

And then we saw it too.

Goddess is alive.

Pentecost Commonly Called Whitsunday

Pentecost Commonly Called Whitsunday
Acts 2:1-11 * John 14:15-31"Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Ziontravailed, she brought forth her children."- Isaiah 66:8

We could say rightly that Zion's labor was brief, for, after only ten days of prayer, the Church came forth as a nation born in a day. Christ, as touching his human body as Jesus of Nazareth, had stepped behind the veil when a cloud took him out of their sight. Then, on the Day of Pentecost, the infant Church was born in what we might rightly call the second chapter of the Incarnation. God the Word () came into the world on the Day of the Annunciation, and showed himself in his Nativity when he was born in Bethlehem. He walked the earth as a man, and "went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil." (Acts 10:38) On the Day of Pentecost, the Church that waited so short a time in the womb, as they were together in prayer, was born to carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ. He still goes about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, this time through the Church which is his Body.

Make no mistake about it; when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples, the Church became the Body of Christ just as truly as Christ was born in Bethlehem. Our ministry as the Church is His ministry, as He extends His Incarnation through us, and goes about doing good not only as far as "one" man may travel, but into every place on earth, preaching the Gospel in all the world as a testimony to all nations, gathering out of all nations those who are His disciples. The Church, His bride and his Body, believes and does works greater in number, just as the disciple Elisha did twice the miracles of Elijah the prophet, when a double portion of the same Spirit rested on him. (II Kings 2:9f, John 14:12)

Among the many people in Jerusalem, who had come for the feast, were pilgrims from various nations, that is the God-fearers and proselytes who were born as Gentiles, and either had begun to convert to Judaism, or had fully converted. Also, there many Jews of the Diaspora who lived most of the time in foreign countries. Although just about everyone in the Roman Empire spoke enough Greek to get by, as it was the international language, these pilgrims heard the disciples speaking in the languages of their own distant homelands. Anyone with genuine experience of such things knows fully well that this was not something uncontrollable, not the result of a trance or ecstasy, and certainly not emotionalism; the speaking was subject fully to the self-control of each one who spoke in those other tongues; the words themselves were known to those foreigners who heard the word of God each in his own native tongue.

"Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, where in we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libyaabout Cyrene, and strangers of Rome. Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God."

"What were these tongues (, "glossa") that we read about? How did they serve as a sign for unbelievers? Why did God choose a thing that seemed so weak and foolish that onlookers were filled with derision expressed in mocking words: "Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine." The Scripture goes on to say, "But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day (Acts 2: 13-15)." The many disciples spoke mysteries to God (I Cor. 14:2), understood by none of the local men. But to those who heard the truth spoken in their own tongues, by men who never learned"to speak them (but were simply "given" utterance of praise and thanksgiving) for "the wonderful works of God," this was not a thing to be treated with contempt, but with fear. It was a sign. The division of mankind into different nations through the confusion of tongues at Babel, was a curse that is undone within the Church. In Christ we are one Body, gathered by one Spirit from the four corners of the earth.

"And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals ther: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth (Rev.5:9,10)."

Peter had no trouble identifying what had happened, and doing so from Scripture:

"But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy (Acts 2:16-18 quoting Joel 2:28)."

Peter had changed. He had been a natural man ( "psychikos-"soulish) unable earlier in his life to understand why the Christ, the Son of the Living God, was ready and willing to take up the cross; later he was afraid and denied the Lord three times. But, now he stands on his feet boldly, not afraid of death, having his mind focused on the truth, able to understand and know from Scripture everything that had unfolded and was unfolding. He had been a disciple for more than three years, but now was closer to Christ than at any time when he beheld him with the eyes; for he was now part of the Body of which Christ is the Head. Many a time Peter had stumbled and tripped over his own tongue, and had failed to speak the right words on the night in which his Lord was betrayed. But, now he spoke with more clarity, more power and more authority than any prophet of the Old Covenant. He delivered the first Christian sermon, as he was now the fisher of men Christ had foreseen; his dragnet of words brought in about three thousand souls. The young Church, the Body of Christ brought forth in a day, thrived with healthy vital signs.

None of this was man-made. The best efforts of organization could not have produced it; the most detailed planning could not have pulled it off. No human effort could have brought it forth in a day, because the nation created on the Day of Pentecost was chapter two of the Word made flesh. The Body of Christ now came into the world.

What is the life of the Church? It is the Holy Spirit present within us. What is the strength of the Church? It is the power () of God by his Holy Spirit, present within us. Who is it that takes fallible and failed human beings, lifts them up from the ground and sets them on their feet? It is the Holy Spirit present within us. Who is He that puts His word of eloquence and power on their once unclean lips? It is the Holy Spirit present within us. Who is this that fulfills His own purpose and will with flawed human instruments? It is the Holy Spirit present within us. Who makes Christ known among all nations of the earth to people of every race and tongue? It is the Holy Spirit present within us. Who has unlimited power, and works most effectively through us "after" we have come to the end of our own strength, and can go no further? It is the Holy Spirit present within us.

We know from the end of the Gospel of Luke that the disciples were forbidden to take this work on themselves prematurely, as if it depended simply on human power and wisdom.

"Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high (Luke 24:45-49)."

Frankly, in light of the foolishness of sinful men, it is very obvious that God's power and grace have never depended on anyone less than God Himself. Never think that we, as the Church, have succeeded in anything simply by our own human cleverness, or our best laid plans, or our own strength. We have an organized structure, but the permanent shape of that structure was revealed and enacted by the Holy Spirit. The whole life of the Church is "charismatic"(); from the receiving of Scripture to the Sacraments, from the Apostolic Succession to the faithful service of each member.

Indeed, St. Paul, speaking in the context of spiritual gifts, even goes as far as to call the Church by the name of Christ Himself:

"For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ...Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular (I Cor, 12:12, 27)."

So, I have not spoken carelessly in saying that the Church is part two of the Incarnation. The Jesus who goes about now doing good and healing is none other than the Body of Christ and members in particular. He does his work through you, through His Body the Church, by the Holy Spirit, the other Comforter who is with us and in us.

The day of Pentecost was a feast in the Law of Moses when the first sheaf of the harvest was waved before the Lord. It was also the same day that the Lord had descended on Mount Sinai, when the whole nation of Israel heard the voice of God as He spoke his ten commandments. Therefore, it is quite fitting that the Lord Jesus foretold the outpouring of the Spirit in terms of his commandments. "If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth." Therefore, if we remain faithful to him, we continue to take part in His Incarnation as the Church, the Body of Christ. For His Spirit not only comes upon us, but abides within us always.

Pagan Blog Project 2012

Pagan Blog Project 2012
PaganBlogProject.com

While taking some time to reflect on 2011 Rowan Pendragon began to think about what 2012 would bring. During this meditative period guidance came toward doing something for the new year, but it took time to figure out what it was.

Ideas were coming in bits and pieces with each feeling incomplete, as though it had a friend it were trying to bring. This is how The Pagan Blog Project 2012 came about. What is it?

(The Short Answer) It is a way to spend a year dedicating time each week to studying, reflecting, and sharing your spiritual and magickal path.

The project consists of a single blog post each week posted on your blog each Friday for the year of 2012 that will involve a topic that relates to Paganism, Witchcraft, magick, spirituality, and so on.

Use your posts to share your views on a topic, to talk about your own personal experiences, or to act as a catalyst for research into a subject you want to learn more about then share what you learn and feel. Each week has a prompt from a letter of the alphabet to act as a common thread linking all participants.

Are there really Pagan-Buddhists (Pegabus)? Yes, anyone interested in the Earth and spirituality, the environment and the Dharma, fairies (devas) and reconnecting with our forests might be called to Buddhism and Paganism. Approached with the right intention, even Padmasambhava Guru Rinpoche, seen here in the mist, would bless it.

The Details

When? To build togetherness and community, we will all POST on the same day, Fridays, starting Jan. 6, 2012.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TO WRITE ABOUT?

There is a structure to how the weekly blog posts will be done in order to help stay on track. The Pagan Blog Project is set up to keep posts and topics focused specifically on Paganism, Wicca, Witchcraft, Goddess spirituality, the occult, and so on. Rather than a specific topic to write about, we will be working with a letter each week. There are 26 letters and 52 weeks. That means using the same letter for two weeks. The first week could be about affirmations, altars, amulets, animism, Aradia, Alexandrian tradition, and so on. More
