No, I'm not talking about California.
I am in a weird state of mind or soul.
I am a ceremonial magician. I am also a rigid bastard. Rigidity has served me well on my trek. It has (mostly) kept me out of trouble. From stage left, enter Pan.
Um. Yeah. I don't believe in fear. I feel it from time to time. And, unless you're pointing a gun at me, I run over it. Most of the time. When I can't do that, I ignore it. Being told that I blacked out twice, once while completely sober is well, sobering. It is against the rules I live by. Accidental or not, it is a serious problem. I do not get 'passive'. Ever. The gods love horses. They will run them into the ground, especially Pan. I wish I didn't like him. Then, I could boot him to the side. He'd kill me if he wanted and then we could start a new life. That isn't going to happen.
The above concept of being passive applies to my path, not someone else's. Those of the voodoo path are quite okay with it. Yet, I am not into the voodoo that you do and do so well. I'm sure there are other paths that are okay with passivity. It does not fit into how I was taught. Then again, I am becoming my own now. Maybe it is okay, now. And what do I care who it is okay with? I don't. I do care if I'm sliding off the path.
I have noticed something in my dreams that I've alluded to hear once or twice but didn't really have the words to describe them. I've mentioned the colors have changed. I couldn't' define how. All my life my dreams have been in darkness. There is light coming from (or reflected from) that which I encounter but all the action, even in 'daytime', looks and feels like night. There is darkness, lots of darkness. Now, there is ambient light. The structures and beings I encounter are more solid. Did I mention that there is ambient light? Does that mean I'm at a higher level of Yesod during my 'average' dreams? Don't know but I like this better. I feel more alive in my dreams. The feel more communicative even when I don't remember. My old dreams were just my subconscious playing out hopes, fears, dreams or whatever. Now, that subconscious part of me is directed, purposeful, communicating.
My back is a mess. That is making work a mess. A huge mess. A big mess. I can't post about that here.
I feel very much in transition. Frankly, pretty much like I'm dying. The kicker is, I don't care. I'm a bit anxious but in a really healthy state of mind. I've never been more secure in me. I'd like a few more friendships outside my 'play group', I'd like a bit more of a financial cushion but aside from that I am good. I am only insecure about one thing, which, would be inappropriate to post about. Life may all explode over the place in the next several months anyway. Odd. Yes, I know this a rambling post that will not win any composition awards. Yet, this is how my mind is right now. Present, yet off. Pleasant, yet a bit apprehensive of the method of death, not death itself. I am not resigned or indifferent. I am detached.
Saturday, Joe said, "[my name] is no more." He may be right.
I can feel that I am in a very exciting stage of the work and a very dangerous one. I am at that point that my HGA and my mentor warned me about when they told me to lay off the goetia for a while. I don't know why they said that. Except that I am in exactly that point that they were concerned about.
My universe appears to be changing. I am changing. I have fear. I have gleeful anticipation. Yet, even with resolute purpose, I feel lost. My HGA is telling me all is good. I am exactly where I need to be, right now. My emotions do not have the faith in my HGA that my intellect has or is that backwards? Hard to tell.
My HGA told me to make a list of all the things that interested me. He told me to focus on just those right now. There is a list of magick stuff and baseball. Baseball, will be a good thing.

Much has been said on other blogs about this disaster. No words can quite describe the kind of emotions that well-up from the matter-of-fact reporting of heart-wrenching stories in the media. There are so many people affected and so many stories to tell and so much raw emotion already that the reporters don't even seem to have a need rehash the same news story endlessly. I cried while I was reading the papers this morning. It's just the terrible loss of lives and the fear that most of the dead died while still God's enemies... Then again, I'm the type of person who tears when I read of deaths and see from the obituaries that the dead didn't appear to take the chance while alive to believe and be saved. Death is so final and so certain. There is no more hope of repentance after death, and so no more hope of salvation. In that way, the death of one unrepentant person seems as tragic as the deaths of tens of thousands of others of that same status.
As Christians, this recent tragedy has reminded many of us of our view of reality and forced us to take a stand on our worldview:
Common questions asked have been:
* why did God cause this to happen? (did he? or is this a result of the Fall: when humanity fell, the earth fell with them (Genesis 3) so that now the whole creation groans (as we do) as it waits for its redemption, together our adoption as sons and the redemption of our bodies (Romans 8)); and
* God is sovereign: why does he allow suffering? (same reason why he allows sin...he has provided a way out. On his terms. According to his own timing. Who are you O clay... etc etc...).
Common points of reflection are that:
* this jolts us into remembering the reality of the second coming of Christ, the judgement that will occur on the last day and so the urgency of telling people the only way to get saved from God's wrath on that day;
* this reminds us of the meaninglessness of worldly things;
* this warns us that Jesus will come at a time that we do not expect and that we must be ready to give an account to him then;
* this makes us long even more for the coming of Christ, a time when all things will be made new and God will wipe every tear from the eyes of his children; and
* this is a good opportunity to tell people how to be saved from God's rightful wrath;
yet:
* it is biblical to grieve and mourn the loss of so many lives, especially of people who died while still God's enemies;
* it is biblical to assist the victims in any way we can, materially and spiritually; and
* it is biblical to give thanks to God that he has put Singapore at just the right geographical location so that although we are much nearer the epicentre than many worse-hit countries, all we felt were slight tremors in along the southern coast.
and we trust that somehow, God is working through this tragedy to bring about his plan in his good and perfect way.
The Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Peter Jensen, wrote the following letter to the clergy. I reproduce it here because it contains useful pointers:
"Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I know that the recent catastrophic disaster in countries near to Australia will have saddened and troubled you. I write to urge you to address the issue, especially at church services this coming Sunday. Even if you plan to be away, it would be good to make sure that those responsible for the services are briefed on what to do.
First, I suggest that we pray for the nations involved, for those who are suffering loss and for those who have been injured. A great deal now depends on what is done to offer help and to repair the damage. We ought to pray that appropriate aid will be speedily at hand, that disease will be checked and that there will be no outbreak of lawlessness. Much depends on the efficiency of local government agencies and on the justice with which help is given. I suggest that we could use the Lord's Prayer as a template for our intercessions.
Second, I believe that the matter needs to be addressed at a pastoral level, through the preaching of God's word. The scriptures provide a rich resource at moments like this, and I hope that you will be giving thought to the theological issues raised by this event. There are many aspects to this, including our common humanity with those who have suffered, our responsibility to help, the need for justice in the distribution of aid and the succour of the victims, the sovereignty, judgements and mercy of God, the tribulations of human experience and the brevity of human life, as well as the need for us to think of our own situation before God.
Third, I suggest that you give some advice to those who wish to give money for the relief of those in need.
Fourth, although Australian casualties seem to be relatively small in number, it may be that someone in your parish has been affected. Even if they are not connected to the church, I hope that you will feel able to let such people know that the church fellowship is praying for them and willing to help in any way needed.

Some interesting results from an online poll asking about the content of a state's grand lodge magazine. I won't post the state as it is not meant as a criticism of the current content or job that the editors are doing. But I think the results are worth noting for any grand lodge publication and what members would find most useful, informative or interesting.
If grand lodges are spending lots of money and editors lots of time creating these publications, it costs just as much and takes just as much time to put out a product members will actually read as one they'll toss after the walk in from the mailbox.

What most distinguishes the Enochian magickal system is that it is an artifact, a made thing. Other systems attempt to describe the universe (or some part of it) as it is, providing a framework which corresponds to observable natural structures and events, attempting to work with forces in their natural states. No lesser source could possibly have bound together the elements it contains; no lesser source could have made those elements so instantly and perfectly responsive to the will of the user.
What is the purpose of this magickal machine? Experience shows that in some ways it is like a computer system, in other ways like a Communications network, a powerdistribution grid, a means of transportation, and a trans-dimensional gate. Add to these the many mundane tasks Dee believed could be accomplished through its use, and the Calls and Tablets seem to be the Swiss Army Knife of magick. Whatever the magician wants to use it for, it can accomplish; sometimes that accomplishment requires using it in ways not intended, but it works nonetheless.

As in any other part of the world, Thailand and her people are very religious. I'm so saddened to walk in downtown Bangkok and see a shrine set up where people will bow and offer lotus flowers while burning incense. Other times I've seen people kneel in front of a monk and make their offering, all while the monk is chanting over them. So, so empty.
This past Wednesday I was reminded of all this when I stepped into a Buddhist temple. My (Christian) Thai co-worker's grandmother died and so we made a trip to my co-worker's province to support and encourage her during this very hard time.
Pookie is the only saved person in her entire family. Stop and let that sink in for a moment. Most of us have at least one other saved family member, but all of Pookie's family members are Buddhists. Several are even monks right now. When Pookie received the phone call saying her grandmother died, Pookie knew that lady stepped into a Christless eternity. She was so burdened for her family members that she broke out in hives all over her body.
The funeral was intersting, to say the least. When we walked into the temple, I noticed a lot of flowers and statues everywhere.
In addition to that, loud music was being played by several different men.
We also saw the crematorium where the casket and body would be later burned.
I kept thinking over and over again that if you take away the loud music, if you take away the flowers and the statues, if you take away the monks, all would be quiet and the reality is that a soul departed this world and entered eternity. No matter how much "stuff" was at a funeral, it won't make a difference.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to have the experience, if for no other reason than the fact the Lord reminded me that these dear, precious people are "lost" and in need of a Saviour. It is too late for Pookie's grandmother, but a difference can still be made in the lives of other Thai people!
