Making A Mojo Bag

Making A Mojo Bag
A Mojo is a visible symbol Of desire. It is the not-too-distant relative of the four-leaf clover, Rabbit's' foot, wedding ring, flag, and many other modern magickal symbols. Usually constructed in the form of a charm-bag, a mojo is carried on the Person or hung in the home, car, or workplace for good luck, protection, Harmony, health, attracting love or money, and so on.

Mojos contain many Different things-herbs, coins, magnets, stones, bones, beads, feathers, Hair, shells- depending on the purpose. Every part of a mojo has Significance symbolically: colors, numbers of knots, shape, number and kinds Of ingredients. The symbolic meanings have been part of esoteric knowledge For millennia, and are the basis of many systems of Magick, such as the Freudian and Jungian. All the parts work together to affect the unconscious Mind and get it moving in order to achieve the desired result- somewhat like Waving a red flag in front of a bull, or burning an American flag in front of A US senator. Because, let's face it, the unconscious, powerful though it is, Is not too cooperative in achieving conscious desires. Making and using a Mojo is a way of making our deepest wishes solid and tangible, of working Things out on the physical level and then taking them back into ourselves. It's all done with symbols, because the unconscious understands symbols. You might say that Mojo Magick is the mirror-image of dreaming, in That dreams are messages from the unconscious to the conscious mind, and Mojo Magick is sending messages back.

Mojo Magick is based on the Principles of Similarity (things which seem alike are alike) and Contagion (things once in contact continue to interact after separation).

The Law of Similarity is The basis of the system of Magickal Correspondences; each area of life is Ruled by a particular planet, day of the week, etc., and each of these Planets rules a number of substances, plants, animals, etc. For example, the Area of sex and love is traditionally ruled by the planet Venus, whose day is Friday, whose color is blue-green, whose metal is copper, and whose herbs are (among many others) rose, orris, and sandalwood. If you wished to make a Love charm, then, you would pick out herbs sacred to the Goddess in

Her Venusian aspects, with perhaps a magnet (for attraction), or a copper penny, and place them in a small bag of blue-green cloth. Along With these ingredients, you would also put in some object belonging to The one you desired-a lock of hair, a fragment of an old shirt, or

The like. This obeys the Law of Contagion-you are providing an object Link, a physical connection with your subject. A photograph is an Excellent object link, especially if the subject's name is written on the Back. Each part of the mojo is symbolic, including the number of ingredients and the number of knots used to bind it-use the number which

Symbolizes your purpose.

It is most important to be Clear in your mind what your purpose actually is, and to do only one kind of Working at a time. Since the mojo functions on both the magickal and Psychological levels as a centering device, you don't want to confuse Yourself before you begin. And Magick generally works, so be prepared to get Exactly what you ask for, and ask carefully.

When you have constructed the mojo (preferably on the day appropriate to your purpose, on a waxing moon For growth and increase and on a waning moon for decrease and getting rid of Things you don't want in your life), charge it with your personal power by Breathing on it and saying something like:

"I charge this spell

By Three times three

To do harm to none

Nor return to me

As I do will SO MOTE IT BE!"

Upon uttering the last Words, project the power of your desire into the mojo. Visualize, as strongly As you can, your purpose accomplished and yourself in the situation you want.

Let this energy go into the mojo; and relax. Carry it with you, or present it To the one it is meant for. Then keep your eyes open for opportunities to Make your wish come true. They will appear-you have only to see Them.

Big Conference On Science Religion Culture And Modernity
"This is a weekly post by Nidhal Guessoum (see his earlier posts here). Nidhal is an astrophysicist and Professor of Physics at American University of Sharjah and is the author of Islam's Quantum Question: Reconciling Muslim Tradition and Modern Science"."

From 21 to 23 June 2011, a big conference will be held at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in the UAE, jointly organised by the British Council (BC) in partnership with AUS and in association with the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR).

The conference forms part of the British Council's "Belief in Dialogue" initiative, which is intended to foster closer inter-faith dialogue on matters of common cultural interest, including religious belief and the place and significance of the sciences in various worldviews.

The conference is titled "BELIEF IN DIALOGUE: SCIENCE, CULTURE AND MODERNITY".

In addition to plenary lectures and discussions, parallel sessions will be devoted to the exploration of three broad themes running through the conference:. Science and Religion: Two Cultures?. Cultures of Belief in Modern Societies. Ethical Values and Human Responsibility. This theme will explore ethical issues in relation to the environment, to questions of sustainability and to problems arising from new technologies - including such controversial matters as stem-cell research.

A further stream within the conference will comprise a series of seminars specially designed for about 50 selected student participants. One or two public debates are also planned and will likely be broadcast by the BBC World Service and BBC Arabic TV, along with other media activity. Thirty outstanding invited speakers have confirmed their participation, including HE Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the Turkish scholar who is currently the Secretary-General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), who will be giving the opening keynote speech, Tariq Ramadan, the well-known scholar of Islam and Philosophy, and many others from around the world.

A list of plenary speakers also includes Paul Davies, Zia Sardar, Munawar Anees, Andrew Briggs, John Hedley Brooke, Philip Clayton, William Grassie, Nidhal Guessoum, Salman Hameed, Aref Nayed, Jean Staune, Mehdi Golshani, and Ronald Numbers.I WOULD THUS LIKE TO INVITE ANYONE INTERESTED IN SUCH TOPICS TO SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT FOR THE CONFERENCE, AND TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS AND YOUNG RESEARCHERS TO APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE STUDENTS SEMINAR.

A Mitologia De Vnus

A Mitologia De Vnus
A Mitologia de V^enus

(POR GRAcA CARVALHO - ASTR'oLOGA)

V^eNUS NASCEU ADULTA, BELA, EXUBERANTE, COMO 'e O AMOR. NASCEU DO S^eMEN DE URANO (O C'eU), CA'iDO NA ESPUMA DO MAR, OU NUMA CONCHA DE OSTRA, QUANDO URANO AFASTAVA-SE GRITANDO DE DOR AO SER CASTRADO POR SEU FILHO SATURNO.

'E QUE GAIA - A TERRA - N~aO SUPORTAVA MAIS O TERR'iVEL DESTINO IMPOSTO POR SEU MARIDO, O C'eU, DE DEVOLVER AO SEU VENTRE CADA FILHO QUE NASCIA. E NASCERAM MUITOS. GAIA, ENT~aO, MERGULHOU DENTRO DELA MESMA E CONVOCOU OS FILHOS PARA MATAR URANO. APENAS SATURNO, SEU FILHO CAcULA, OUSOU TAMANHA FAcANHA.

FOI ENT~aO RETIRADO DAS TREVAS, DO SEIO DE GAIA E PELA PRIMEIRA VEZ VISLUMBROU O C'eU. REFLETIU: CONCLUIU QUE ESTAVA DIANTE DE ALGO IMORTAL, ABSOLUTAMENTE PERFEITO. REFLETIU MAIS UMA VEZ E PERCEBEU QUE A 'uNICA MANEIRA DE CUMPRIR COM O QUE HOUVERA PROMETIDO `a SUA M~aE, ERA CASTRAR URANO, A 'uNICA POSSIBILIDADE DE APROXIMAc~aO QUE ELE VIU COM SEU PAI. E ASSIM FOI FEITO. URANO RETIROU-SE NUM GRITO DE DOR, SEU S^eMEN CAIU NO MAR E GEROU O AMOR.

LOGO V^eNUS N~aO 'e FILHA DO C'eU E DA TERRA. V^eNUS A DEUSA DO AMOR, DA BELEZA, DA TERNURA, DA SENSUALIDADE, 'e FILHA DAS 'aGUAS COM O C'eU. DO ELEMENTO 'aGUA COM O AR. E NADA MAIS RAREFEITO DO QUE O AMOR, O SENTIMENTO, A EMOc~aO, O PRAZER.A COMPETIc~aO E O CONFLITO PARECEM SER INGREDIENTES INSEPAR'aVEIS DO AMOR, PELO MENOS O AMOR DOS CINCO SENTIDOS RELACIONADO A V^eNUS.

CONTA O MITO QUE, NUM TEMPO SEM TEMPO, UM GRANDE CASAMENTO ACONTECEU NO OLIMPO, TODOS OS DEUSES COMPARECERAM, APENAS UMA DEUSA, 'ERIS, N~aO FOI CONVIDADA. MESMO SEM SER CONVIDADA, 'ERIS CHEGOU `a FESTA, NA HORA EXATA QUANDO TODOS OS CONVIDADOS SENTAVAM-SE A MESA PARA SABOREAR O BANQUETE DOS DEUSES.

Nesse momento, 'Eris fez sua vinganca pela desconsiderac~ao. Atirou uma mac~a de ouro onde estava gravada a frase 'para a mais bela'. Logo as tr^es mais belas deusas reivindicaram para si a mac~a. As deusas Palas Athena, Juno e V^enus.

JUNO OFERECEU-LHE PODER E RIQUEZA.

PALAS ATHENA PROMETEU-LHE VIT'oRIA EM TODAS AS BATALHAS.

PODEMOS TIRAR ALGUMAS BOAS CONCLUS~oES DESSE MITO. ELE NOS FALA DE NOSSOS CONFLITOS INTERIORES: SER A MAIS SENSUAL, A MAIS PODEROSA A MAIS INTELIGENTE, S~aO ELEMENTOS QUE PERTENCEM A CADA UMA DAS DEUSAS QUE DISPUTARAM A POSSE DA MAc~a DE OURO. QUAL DELAS MERECE O T'iTULO? QUAL O SEU CONFLITO INTERIOR? A QUEM VOC^e VAI DETERMINAR O DIREITO DE DECIDIR? ALGU'eM DE FORA? OU VOC^e MESMA BUSCAR'a SUA RESPOSTA? COMO ESSE MITO LHE TOCA? ESCREVA SOBRE ELE.

V^eNUS, NA ASTROLOGIA, REPRESENTA O PRAZER, A SATISFAc~aO, A AUTO-ESTIMA. QUANDO N~aO ESTAMOS SATISFEITOS, N~aO ATINGIMOS UM ESTADO SAUD'aVEL DE AMOR PR'oPRIO,O QUE IMPOSSIBILITA QUE AS OUTRAS PESSOAS TAMB'eM POSSAM NOS AMAR E RESPEITAR. V^eNUS 'e O ESPELHO DA NOSSA PR'oPRIA ALMA: O QUE AMAMOS E ACHAMOS BONITO 'e O QUE H'a DE MAIS BELO E VALIOSO EM N'oS MESMOS. V^eNUS 'e TAMB'eM O PRINC'iPIO DA UNI~aO E FERTILIZAc~aO, J'a QUE O ENVOLVIMENTO E A ENTREGA AMOROSA CERTAMENTE RESULTAM NUM PROCESSO DE CRIATIVIDADE.

V^eNUS ANADIOMENA

A Love Potion Tea Recipe To Attract A Lover

A Love Potion Tea Recipe To Attract A Lover
There's a simple love potion and ritual you can use to help you attract a lover. This remarkable potion has been handed down by Witches, and when used in conjunction with a simple ritual, will enhance your chances of attracting your lover

This is a wonderful love potion that you can drink on its own or to accompany a Love Spell you are casting. Like many Love Spells, this ritual is best begun on the evening of a Full Moon. The night of the Full Moon is the best, most optimum time for Attraction and Love Spells of all kinds.

Recipe for Love Tea

Prepare a mix of the following dried herbs:

3 teaspoons of Dittany of Crete

3 teaspoons Lavender

3 teaspoons Chamomile

9 Rosebuds

If you can't get hold of Dittany of Crete, use 3 teaspoons of mint instead.

Mix the blend slowly and thoroughly with a wooden spoon, and as you do so, think of the lover you want to attract to you. Take care with this part of the process and focus on who exactly it is that you want to draw towards you. Focus on their qualities, their strengths and their gifts and talents.

After a few moments, and when you feel you are ready, say aloud 3 times:

Mix combine to bring to me

A true love for all to see!

The blend you have prepared should give you enough blended love tea for nine days.

Each evening for nine consecutive days pour boiling water over one teaspoon of the blend, (including one rosebud). Allow to steep for five minutes. You can add some honey if you wish to.

When the tea is ready, sip it and say aloud 3 times:

One true love bring forth to me

Two hearts combine

So mote it be!

Repeat this process for another eight days.

Good luck!

The Sorceries Of Zos From Cults Of The Shadow

The Sorceries Of Zos From Cults Of The Shadow
BOOK: THE SORCERIES OF ZOS FROM CULTS OF THE SHADOW BY AUSTIN OSMAN SPARE

Austin Spare claimed to have had direct experience of the existence of extra-terrestrial intelligences, and Crowley- as his autobiography makes abundantly clear- devoted a lifetime to proving that extra-terrestrial and superhuman consciousness can and does exist independently of the human organism.

As explained in Images and Oracles of Austin Osman Spare, Spare was initiated into the vital current of ancient and creative sorcery by an aged woman named Paterson, who claimed decent form a line of Salem witches. The formation of Spare's Cult of the Zos and the Kia owes much to his contact with Witch Paterson who provides the model for many of his 'sabbatic' drawings and paintings. Much of the occult lore that she transmitted to him suffuses two of his Austin Osman Spare - The Sorceries Of Zos From Cults Of The Shadow

Guns In America - Absolutism

Guns In America Part 7 - Absolutism
Last Monday, President Obama gave his second inaugural address. In it, he said:

We cannot mistake absolutism for principle, or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate.

Apparently, this sentence did not sit well with some on the right, in particular Wayne LaPierre, the chief executive of the National Rifle Association (NRA). The day after President Obama's second inaugural, LaPierre gave a speech to the Weatherby International Hunting and Conservation Awards in Reno, Nevada. The primary focus of his speech was the aforementioned sentence from President Obama's second inaugural address. Allow me to quote from LaPierre's speech:

So what is this "absolutism" the president attacks? And what are the so-called "principles" that he wants us to settle for instead?

Obama wants to turn the idea of "absolutism" into a dirty word, just another word for "extremism." He wants you to accept the idea of "principles" as he sees fit to define them. It's a way of redefining words so that common sense is turned upside-down and nobody knows the difference.

...

We as gun owners face the same kind of false ultimatum. We're told that to stop insane killers, we must accept less freedom - less than the criminal class and political class keep for themselves.

We're told that limits on magazine capacity or bans on 100-year-old firearms technology - bans that only affect lawful people - will somehow make us safer.

We're told that wanting the same technology that the criminals and our leaders keep for themselves is a form of "absolutism" and that accepting less freedom and protection for ourselves is the only "principled" way to live.

Think about what that means. Barack Obama is saying that the only "principled" way to make children safe is to make lawful citizens less safe and violent criminals more safe.

Criminals couldn't care less about Barack Obama's so-called "principles"! They don't have principles - that's why they're criminals.

Obama wants you to believe that putting the federal government in the middle of every firearm transaction - except those between criminals - will somehow make us safer.

...

He doesn't understand you. He doesn't agree with the freedoms you cherish. If the only way he can force you to give 'em up is through scorn and ridicule, he's more than willing to do it - even as he claims the moral high ground.

He said it yesterday! In the very same sentence that Obama talked about "absolutism" versus "principle," he also scolded his critics for "name-calling," as he called it.

...

When Barack Obama says, "we cannot mistake absolutism for principle," what he's saying is that precision and clarity and exactness in language and law should be abandoned in favor of his nebulous, undefined "principles."

I've got news for the president. Absolutes do exist. Words do have specific meaning, in language and in law. It's the basis of all civilization. It's why our laws are written down: So the "letter of the law" carries the force of the law.

That's why our Bill of Rights was written into law, to ensure the fundamental freedoms of a minority could never be denied by a majority. Those are the principles we call unalienable rights.

Without those absolutes, without those protections, democracy decays into nothing more than two wolves and one lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. I urge our president to use caution when attacking clearly defined "absolutes" in favor of his "principles."

Mister President, just because you wish words meant something other than what they mean, you don't have the right to define them any way you want. Because when words can mean anything, they mean nothing.

When "absolutes" are abandoned for "principles," the U.S. Constitution becomes a blank slate for anyone's graffiti and our rights and freedoms are defaced.

Words do have meaning, Mister President. And those meanings are absolute, especially when it comes to our Bill of Rights.

There's more, of course, but those excerpts should give you the general tone and argument of LaPierre's speech.

Now, before getting into a real substantive discussion about "absolutism", I just want to note that LaPierre appears to be arguing that President Obama is wrong for "scolding" critics for name-calling. Yet, read LaPierre's speech and his claims about President Obama and then go back and note that what President Obama "really" said was only that "We cannot... treat name-calling as reasoned debate". Does LaPierre's speech sound to you like "reasoned debate"? Or has he instead simply illustrated President Obama's point about name-calling replacing reasoned debate? I'd vote for the latter.

Anyway, I want to turn my attention to the real substance of LaPierre's speech. And remember this: The NRA may not speak for every gun owner in America, but the NRA's speech is the loudest pro-gun speech you'll hear. Moreover and more importantly, the NRA has enormous influence both on politicians and on electoral politics, due to both vast amounts of money and a well-organized grass roots (or Astroturf - it's not really clear) campaign. One more quick preliminary point: Ask yourself whether the NRA really represents its individual gun-owning members or the gun industry that, to paraphrase Indianapolis gun store owner Don Davis, "just loves to sell guns".

So let's start with LaPierre's basic premises, as summed up in the last sentence quoted above: "Words do have meaning... [a]nd those meanings are absolute, especially when it comes to our Bill of Rights." Let's presume for a moment that LaPierre is completely correct: Words have meanings and within the Bill of Rights those meanings are absolute. Well, then, I'm curious to know what meaning LaPierre would ascribe to the first thirteen words of the Second Amendment (emphasis added):

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state", the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Remember: Words have meanings and those meanings are absolute. Except, you know, the first "half" of the words of the Second Amendment which appear to be nothing more than a... um... er... principle?

But let's go a step further. LaPierre says that the words of the Bill of Rights have absolute meanings. Thus, according to this reasoning, "shall not be infringed" must really mean "shall not be infringed". So, under this hyper-literal, "absolutist" reading of the words of the Second Amendment, wouldn't that mean that convicted criminals "do" have a right to keep and bear arms? After all, they're still a part of "the people". What about the mentally ill? Where does the Constitution allow the government to remove the mentally ill from the definition of "the people" for whom the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed? Are you comfortable with the idea of convicted felons or the mentally ill having weapons? I'm not. If you really take this words of the Second Amendment at their truest "absolute" meaning, then wouldn't "any" gun licensing law be illegal? After all, unless the license is (pardon the pun) absolutely automatic to everyone who applies, then isn't the very existence of a licensure program that "might" deny someone a license an infringement upon the absolute right to keep and bear arms without infringement?

And let's look at the word "arms". According to the Oxford English Dictionary (yeah, I know that the right-wing probably wouldn't accept definitions from a "foreign" dictionary), "arms" means:

"Defensive and offensive outfit for war, things used in fighting" or "Instruments of offence used in war; weapons".

Now remember, according to LaPierre, meanings, especially within the Bill of Rights, are absolute.

Thus, I ask, according to LaPierre's way of thinking, why can't I have a fully automatic rifle? Why can't I have a rocket propelled grenade or hand grenade? Why can't I have a Stinger anti-aircraft missile, a bazooka, a flamethrower, or an anti-personnel mine? Why can't I have chemical or biological agents or even my own tactical nuclear weapon? Why can't I own a switchblade (well, here in Indiana I might be able to soon enough...). Why can't I buy all of the ammonium nitrate I want? After all, even a giant fertilizer bomb is still a form of arms and my right to bear that particular weapon shall not be infringed. Right? And of course, I should be able to stockpile all of the sarin gas or anthrax that I might want. Right? All of those things are "arms" and, according to LaPierre's reasoning, the right to keep and bear "arms" is absolute as is the prohibition on infringing on that absolute right.

And think of some of the other "infringements" on our right to keep and bear arms that must surely be invalidated by LaPierre's absolutist reading of the Second Amendment. Why can't I keep and bear my weapon on an airplane? I mean, shouldn't I have the right to defend myself from a terrorist? And why can't my 13-year-old kids take AK-47s to school? Are they not a part of "the people" for whom the right to keep and bear arms can't be infringed? For that matter, why can't convicted felons "in jail" or the mentally ill "in a hospital" keep and bear arms? Why can't I ring my property with "punji sticks" to keep out trespassers. Why can't I have a rocket launcher on my car? It would make me feel better in a traffic jam...

Remember, according to the chief executive of the NRA, meanings within the Bill of Rights are absolute. Thus, the phrase "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" must be completely and totally absolute.

Is that the NRA's position? Is it yours?

As long as we're examining the absolute meaning of the Second Amendment, perhaps it's worth applying the same absolute meaning standard to other parts of the Bill of Rights; after all, LaPierre didn't limit his claim of absolute meaning to the Second Amendment. Rather, he called out the entire Bill of Rights.

So consider, by way of example, the First Amendment, applying "absolute" meanings to the words:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise ther; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Let's start with that first clause which is quite clear: "no law". Those five letters seem pretty absolute, pretty easy to understand. I'll skip religion for a moment and jump to free speech. "No law... abridging the freedom of speech..." OK. So out of curiosity, what is it that the NRA wants Congress to do about violent movies and violent video games. Pass a law to prohibit them? Hmm. And what about the right to assemble? Can you and I and a few dozen of our friends parade down Main Street or do we need a permit? Can we peaceably assemble at the 50 yard line of Lucas Oil Stadium or in the chambers of the House of Representatives? Can we walk into the next NRA national conference stage a protest? Why not? If the words of the Bill of Rights are absolute, then "no law" must mean "no law"!

And let's think about the free exercise of religion. What if my religion requires human sacrifice? Remember, "no law". OK, let's scale back a bit. Forget human sacrifice. What about animal sacrifice? What about smoking marijuana or peyote? What about the right not to seek medical care for my child? What about the right "to" seek an abortion if my religion tells me it's OK? And if my religion tells me that I should kill infidels or stone my child for talking back to me or to stone you if you eat pork? Remember, the words in the Bill of Rights are "absolute" in their meanings.

Luckily, most of the rest of the Bill of Rights uses words like "unreasonable" or "excessive" or "unusual" thus making those provisions much less absolute and much more in the nature of... "principles". But wait, I thought principles were a bad thing...

So isn't it possible that the words of the Bill of Rights aren't quite as absolute as LaPierre would like you to think they are? Might there not be room for compromise? Might it not be acceptable, notwithstanding words like "shall not be infringed" to recognize that the "principle" of the Second Amendment doesn't stop us from prohibiting felons or the mentally ill from owning guns? Might it not be acceptable for our society to decide that danger to our citizens posed by fully automatic weapons or large capacity magazines or armor piercing bullets allows us to restrict their use to the well-regulated militia, now in the form of either the police or the military? Might it not be acceptable to impose registration requirements or enhanced background checks in an effort to try to limit the flow of weapons to those who ought not have them or to cut down on the black market transfer of weapons?

It seems to me that the NRA's principle of helping gun manufacturers sell more guns is absolute and the principle of keeping our citizens, our families, our "children" safe, must by definition fall as a mere "feel good" principle that is trumped by the absolutism of the pro-gun lobby. Hmm. Isn't that what President Obama was talking about?

SUN DAY - the Day of Intent, Creation and Renewal - Creation Day.. Today there are Major magickal energies for rites/Spells for Success.

THE CAULDRON

It should be remembered that the Cauldron is simply the forerunner of the saucepan. What we now consider to be a 'cauldron' used to be an everyday kitchen pot for our forebears, and would have been kept filled with steaming broth.

Today's Witches use saucepan to cook in, whether food or lotions and potions. For us the Cauldron has other meanings and uses. As with the Chalice, the Cauldron is a symbol of the Goddess. However, whereas the Chalice usually only holds wine or other drinks, the Cauldron used to contain fire, to prevent scorching carpets or the land. Leaping such a fire is a key part of many cleansing and fertility Rites. It can also hold water to act as a dark mirror for scrying, or in water rituals. A Cauldron can represent the Cauldron of Cerridwen which as the power of giving knowledge and life, or the Cauldron of Dagda, one of the four treasures of the Tautha de Danann.

When seeking a Cauldron, ensure that it is made of thick metal, usually iron, as thin metal may not take the heat of even a couple of night-lights. There are two basic styles of Cauldron: the kind designed to hang over an open fire which generally has a large handle and no legs; and the kind with 3 sturdy legs which can stand on its own, keeping the heat away from whatever is underneath. The latter is more useful unless you only intend to hang it over a hearth.

The Greatest Conspiracy In History

The Greatest Conspiracy In History
Few could ever imagine the idea but the Bible says the destiny of those living at the close of earth's history will decide their fate based on choosing to worship the Creator of all living things or going along with the laws of mankind for the peace of mankind. There will only be two sides to this issue.

Interestingly enough, in and around the year 1888 there was a bill presented to the congress of the United States (second beast of Revelation 13) to enforce or honor the first day of the week. This was known as the 'Blair Bill'. This was the type of what Jesus referred to as 'when you see the armies encompassing' know that it is near. This was the antitype of the first siege and a warning to all watching to flee and prepare for the crisis. Few listened.

Now in 2011, it is that same group who are picking up the pace to get this Lord's day agenda pushed into congress. Based in Atlanta, Georgia the Lord's Day Alliance is built to restore society's view of the first day of the week or what they call 'the Sabbath'. I want to quote from their most recent journal:

from the section:

Summary of Implications

for Sabbath observance today- LINK TO FULL MAGAZINE

The importance of Deuteronomy is that it makes clear that the law was never intended to be a mechani- cal list of inflexible rules. Rather, it provides entry into the whole matter of true piety and true morality. It pro- mulgates a worldview encompassing what is entailed in an appropriate approach to God and what is entailed in an appropriate treatment of and relationship to one^aEURTMs neighbor. It is easy to see why Jesus endorsed the sum- mary of the law offered by the Jewish lawyer: ^aEURoe ^aEUR~Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind,^aEURTM and, ^aEUR~Love your neighbor as yourself^aEURTM ^aEUR (Luke 10:27).

Sabbath observance plays a significant role in this endeavor. If we have to be reminded, commanded, or coerced to observe it, it ceases to serve its function.

Interestingly enough this sounds correct yet it is not their true agenda. What was then known as the 'American Sabbath Union' is now known as the Lord's Day Alliance.

Another thing that really threw me off was how the article quoted the president of the Seventh-day Adventist Seminary Neils-Erik Andreasen. Interesting.

Why is this happening?

Because Lucifer was kicked out of heaven because he declared that God's Law was arbitrary and not needing to be kept for true peace. The truth is that the last great conspiracy to come on the world will be Lucifer demanding a day of worship honoring him rather than the Creator on His Seventh-day Sabbath. You can be a Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and keep the other 9 commandments in essence but not the 4th.

The following is from my friend that shared this all with me:

So the Sunday Alliance which is the same group behind the Blair bill in 1888, first time a national Sunday Laws was attempted (first siege) is getting ready to mount the second siege of Jerusalem (this is in prophecy ask me if study^A needed). ^A The quote from their website makes the timing clear and we know prophetically this will happen. ^A Interestingly^A the same group that led the charge the last time is mounting the charge again. ^A Time is short.

"Today, The Lord's Day Alliance^A stands on the edge of a great opportunity to proclaim the message of the Sabbath (SUNDAY), a message of spiritual renewal and personal well being, in this fast-paced 24/7, 21st century American culture."

Here are some recent quotes from the Roman Catholic Church:

"Sunday is an obligation for all the faithful which brings authentic freedom enabling them to live each day, that it is the Lord's day, that it is a day to be sanctified, and those who do not keep it suffer the loss of an authentic sense of Christian freedom and the loss of being the children of God, that Sunday is the primordial holy day and is meant to be kept holy, a day of rest from work,^A which hopefully will also be recognized by civil society by law."(Sacramentum Caritatis: Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation on the Eucharist as the Source and Summit of the Church's Life and Mission, Given by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome, at Saint Peter's, February 22, 2007, the Feast of the Chair of Peter.)

"Without the Lord's day,^A we cannot live, that meeting with the Lord only occurs on the specific day of Sunday, that life does not flourish without Sunday, and that Sunday is a day of rest, of freedom and equality^A for all the world." (Eucharistic Celebration Homily of Pope Benedict XVI, Saint Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna, Sunday, September 9, 2007.)

"Encouraged America to exercise its leadership within the international community based on the common moral law [Sunday holiness]."(Address of Pope Benedict XVI to H.E. Mrs. Mary Ann Glendon, New Ambassador of the United States of America to the Holy See, Friday, February 29, 2008.)

"The world has greater need of hope for peace, justice and freedom, which can never be delivered without^A obedience to the law of God [Sunday holiness]."(Video-Message of the Pope Benedict XVI to Catholics and People of the United States of America on the Occasion of the Upcoming Apostolic Journey, April 15-21, 2008.)

The last thing to add to the pertinence of the moment is the recent call of the Vatican to establish a global political authority that could oversee a new global monetary system.

The Second Harvest

The Second Harvest
This Saturday, September 22 at 10:49 a.m. EDT, the Wheel of the Year turned to the Autumnal Equinox. At Mabon we stand at the crossroads of bounty, warmth, and light and scarcity, cold, and darkness. Like Ostara, Mabon is one of the few times throughout the year that true balance can be observed in nature. The days are still mild, the light is golden, asters and goldenrod brighten roadsides and meadows while the fall migrations of birds and monarch butterflies begin.

The second of three harvest celebrations, Mabon is a time of thanksgiving and celebration but also of reflection. Along with the actual harvest from our garden, my family reflects upon what we have planted, tended, and harvested in our lives. My seven year old has learned to read. One son has brought back a new harvest of experiences from his first trip to Europe; another fruits of spiritual growth; another harvest of new friendships. After nearly two years, of writing & illustrating-my daughter Ellen and I are eagerly awaiting the arrival of" SOLSTICE MOON SOLSTICE SUN", our illustrated pagan children's book celebrating Yule and the winter solstice.

Because of its associations with the harvest, the apple is a perfect Mabon symbol. Beyond harvesting the bounty of our own garden and processing baskets of tomatoes and garden herbs, our family takes an annual trip to a local orchard. We return with enough Golden Delicious, Honey Crisps, Galas, and Empire apples. Over the next two days our household takes part in epic apple processing and makes around a hundred jars of apple sauce, apple butter, and apple jam. Teamwork in action! Over the years this annual event has become a Mabon family tradition. The delicious aroma of cooking apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg and the positive energy created as we work together fills and blesses our home.

Family and friends look forward to their annual gift of homemade applesauce.

Another way that we connect our family to the Second Harvest is through the hunting animals that represent the season. The As the summer season slowly fades and an autumn chill returns to the air in Delaware, thousands of migrating raptors will travel south over Delaware on their way to warmer winter climates. During the season of Second Harvest, we make two to three weekly trips to Hawk Watch Hill at Ashland Nature Center, an established raptor migration monitoring site, train our binoculars skyward, and observe and count hawks, falcons, eagles, ospreys, and vultures.

On a mild September morning we might witness the spectacle of hundreds of migrating broad-winged hawks as they pass over on their way to the tropics or the awe inspiring sight of a mating pair of Bald Eagles spiraling upwards on a thermal to find the currents to carry them south. It is also a great way to be out in Nature and enjoy the beauty of the fall wildflowers, migrating Monarchs, zooming dragonflies, and the changing Fall foliage.

To top off the season, we make full use of the bounty of musical talent in our family, and host a harvest Home music jam celebrating the gift of friends, family, music. Using the bounty of our gardens and produce from our local growers' markets, we prepare homemade seasonal foods, and on a cool early October night-enjoy the warmth of music and friendship as bluegrass, Celtic, and blues, jazz and eclectic music fills the house. Mabon is also a time to celebrate our local Pagan community. Delaware's Pagan Pride celebration occurs around Mabon and includes a food drive to share the bounty of the harvest. This Mabon was particularly important for me as we dedicated our new coven, Grail of the Birch Moon on September 22nd. Grail is the water coven of the Circle of Capricorn.

Watched over by the Great Ones, we dedicated our coven in a secluded meadow surrounded by autumn wildflowers, trees just beginning to change color, the only sheer cliffs in Delaware, and the hum of autumn insects.

Celebrate Mabon yourself! Be thankful for the things you have, and reflect upon the balance you have achieved and what needs balancing, honoring both the darkness and the light. Invite your friends and family over for a feast (the bigger the better!), and count the blessings of family, friends, and community.

Pulp Fantasy Library The Thing From The Tomb

Pulp Fantasy Library The Thing From The Tomb
"The next installment in Gardner Fox's saga of Niall of the Far Travels is "The Thing from the Tomb," which appeared in issue #23 (March 1979) of Dragon". What's interesting about this series is that, unlike Robert E. Howard's Conan tales, they're told in chronological order. Fox implies that Niall has other adventures "between "the published short stories, but each of them clearly takes place after the one that preceded it. Consequently, when we meet Niall at the beginning of "The Thing from the Tomb," he's still in the employ of King Lurlyr Manakor of Urgrik, as he was in "The Stolen Sacrifice." This time, though, he's the supreme commander of the king's armies and is leading a large number of his troops into the Balakanian Desert, where he's on an inspection tour of the forts that dot this desolate area.

While traveling, Niall encounters a wounded veteran, whom he quickly moves to aid. When asked what happened to him, he replies:

The man opened his eyes.

"Death," he whispered. "Death came in the night and -" He choked and his eyes closed. Niall leaned closer, his arm about the man, half lifting him as if to ease him of his pain. The soldier smiled, nodded. His eyes opened once again. "Beware the fort. They're all dead, inside it. Only I got away. Crawled. Crawled until I-could crawl no more."

His hand closed on Niall's wrist. "Beware the thing in the fort. It cannot - be killed..."

The man shuddered and writhed as pain ate inside him. He gasped at the hot desert air and stared upward into the face of the man who bent above him.

"It began when they were di-digging... digging to find more water. They - uncovered an old-tomb. And then..."

The man shuddered once more, violently, and then his body sagged. Niall looked down at him with pity in his eyes. Pity and - admiration. If this man had not struggled and fought to crawl out this far away from the frontier fort, he and his men would have ridden into untold danger. It's a fairly clich'ed beginning to what is my least favorite of these stories so far, but one that nevertheless continues to develop Niall's character in ways that clearly distinguish him from Conan and his many literary doppelgangers. That, for me, is what makes "The Thing from the Tomb" worth reading, despite the weakness of its story.

After meeting the veteran, Niall decides to head off - alone - to investigate the fort from which the dying man came. When his lieutenant questions the wisdom of this, the barbarian explains, "I am one man. I may discover what the thing is that has killed. One man may hide where many cannot. Besides, now that I command the armies of the king, mine is the duty to protect them." This explanation makes no sense whatsoever in my opinion. But it "sounds "noble, establishing that Niall takes his responsibilities as commander seriously. More importantly, it separates him from a huge number of professional soldiers, thus making it possible to place him in credible danger.

In time, Niall learms that the Balakanian Desert was once the realm of Sosaria Thota.

"A most famous witch. Some said she was the daughter of a demon, She ruled this part of the world with cruel fingers. Kings and emperors paid her fortunes to have her cast spells for them."I do not think I'm surprising anyone by revealing that Sosaria Thota is not in fact dead and that she is "the thing" mentioned in the short story's title, whose awakening led to the destruction of the desert fort. When Sosaria meets Niall, she is impressed by his honesty when he says that he would slay her to protect Urgrik. She then asks him of the current state of the world and commands him to show it to her. Niall reluctantly agrees, hoping that he might find a way to destroy her, as he originally intended. How he goes about this is the true meat of the story.

As I said, "The Thing from the Tomb" is fairly weak as a story. Too much of its narrative happens simply because it "must "or else Gardner Fox can't advance his plot. At the same time, I find myself sufficiently interested in Niall and his world that I am willing to put aside such concerns and allow myself to be carried forward. Whether a reader is able to do that will probably determine whether or not they, too, will enjoy "The Thing from the Tomb."
