The word "witch" has had many different meanings at different times and places and to different people: anything from a woman who tells fortunes to a vampire owl who kills infants in their cradles.
Tomorrow evening, at Secret Chiefs, Gareth Medway will be talking about the patterns in this diversity and looking at what connection, if any, there is between people who meet naked in suburban living rooms and medieval women who reputedly flew around the world on broomsticks.
Gareth is a priest of Themis and a historian of occultism.

Located just 16 miles north of Boston on theNewburyport/Rockport MBTA commuter rail line, Salem, Mass., like many New England towns, has a vibrant yet dark history stretching all the way back to colonial times. While Salem remains best known for the hysteria surrounding the Witch Trials of 1692, in which 20 innocent people were accused of and executed for witchcraft, that's only the start of the city's history.
In the 1700s, murderous pirates like Captain Kidd andBlackbeard terrorized the seas off the eastern coast of the American colonies, and during the American Revolution, Salem became a center for privateers authorized to capture and loot British merchant ships. Salem would eventually grow to be the nation's busiest port during the 1800s, turning sea captains and merchants into America's first millionaires whose legacies live on today.
With so much to see and do, here's what the city guide and residents recommend to visitors.BRUSH UP ON HISTORY. The award-winning Salem Witch Trials Memorial is a must-see. Each victim's name and method and date of execution is inscribed into a set of cantilevered benches overlooking Old Burying Point Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in the city and the resting place of, among others, witch trial judge John Hathorne. The memorial serves as "a reminder of all who stood in mute witness to the hysteria," according to the Salem Award Society.
Then head over to the New England Pirate Museum, where you can learn about the 60-plus pirates that called this area home, including New England's only knownfemale pirate, also the last woman hanged in Massachusetts. Yelp-ers agree that the tours led by costumed guides are "kitschy fun" but informative and worth the relatively inexpensive admission, especially as part of a combination museum pass.
You'll also want to check out the Peabody Essex Museum, the oldest continuously operated museum in the country. The museum is the legacy of Salem's millionaire sea captains, whose artifacts and memorabilia from all over the world serve as the basis for the museum's collection.
If you've got one more museum in you, visit The House of Seven Gables. The beautifully preserved (read: low ceilings) property includes the novel's namesake mansion and as the birthplace of its famed author Nathaniel Hawthorne. And to connect the historical dots: Hawthorne added the "w" to his last name to distance himself from his ancestor who presided over the infamous 1692 trials.
GET SCARED. Beginning Oct. 1, Salem celebrates its macabre heritage with a month-long spooky festival known as Haunted Happenings. The city turns its downtown into a carnival, parades zombies through the streets, and offers special theatrical productions.
Be sure to bring your ghost-hunting shoes, as many of Salem's locales are allegedly haunted. A local word of caution: Beware the ghost of Giles Corey, the man pressed to death during the trials for refusing to enter a plea. His ghost is said to predict disaster for the city, having last been spotted before the Great Salem Fire of 1914.
Less supernatural but no less scary is the Derby Square
GRAB A BITE. All that excitement should make you hungry. For breakfast, head to Red's, voted the North Shore's best breakfast place by locals several years running. Later on,Pickering Wharf is home to several excellent seafood restaurants like Finz and Capt's. TheGulu-Gulu Caf'e is considered a "hipster" spot but is a chill place to grab a sweet or savory crepe. Caffeine addicts can fuel up at Jaho, which boasts a unique siphon coffee machine that "vacuum brews" your house-roasted beans.
BELIEVE. Perhaps one of the most underestimated aspects of human existence is the power of our thoughts and intent. While some of us like to play victim to life's experiences happening beyond our control, there are others who have awakened to the truth as to how we create our own reality, hence attract all that we experience in our lives, quite literally. Dr. Masaru Emoto is one such soul who shares with the world his groundbreaking discovery which clearly shows the affect of human consciousness on water molecules. We can understand this better if we can understand that all life forms, everything in the universe is inherently a vibration !
In his experiments, Dr. Emoto exposed music, words spoken, words typed, pictures and videos to Water. After it was crystallized the water showed some remarkable patterns. Positive words such as 'Thank You', 'Love', 'Truth', 'Compassion', and 'Happiness' gave the water molecule a beautiful crystalline structure contrary to the water molecules which were exposed to negative terminology and intent with words and phrases such as 'hate', 'greed', 'you make me sick' which made the structure all distorted and chaotic.

'Cymatics', which is the scientific study of how vibrational frequencies affect physical matter also corroborates with Dr. Emoto's discovery of water being affected by waves of intent and thought forms. The term Cymatics was coined by Dr. Hans Jenny which is derived from the Greek word 'kyma' meaning 'wave' or 'ta kymatica' meaning 'matters pertaining to waves'.
In his research with the tonoscope, Jenny noticed that when the vowels of the ancient languages of Hebrew and Sanskrit were pronounced, the sand took the shape of the written symbols for these vowels, while our modern languages, on the other hand, did not generate the same result! Its about time we go beyond these nonexistent illusory boundaries of village, state or country and live a life in harmony with nature, not treating everything as a resource with a price tag attached to it.
In a wonderland that is Goa, we have the opportunity to stay close to natural surroundings with clean rivers and lakes which we must strive to keep clean. Our individual efforts and our sense of awareness makes a world of a difference in our lives and those around us. Everything changes when we start emitting our own frequency rather than absorbing the frequencies around us, when we start imprinting our intent on the universe rather than receiving an intent from existence.
It's about time we start beaming positivity and good vibes wherever we are... start becoming the change we wish to see in the world ! As solid as it may appear to our five senses, our realities are quite literally manifestations of our thoughts.

When we had taken leave of them we set sail, made a straight run for Cos, and on the next day for Rhodes, and from there to Patara. Finding a ship crossing to Phoenicia, we went on board and put out to sea. We caught sight of Cyprus but passed by it on our left and sailed on toward Syria and put in at Tyre where the ship was to unload cargo. There we sought out the disciples and stayed for a week. They kept telling Paul through the Spirit not to embark for Jerusalem. At the end of our stay we left and resumed our journey. All of them, women and children included, escorted us out of the city, and after kneeling on the beach to pray, we bade farewell to one another. Then we boarded the ship, and they returned home. We continued the voyage and came from Tyre to Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and stayed a day with them. On the next day we resumed the trip and came to Caesarea, where we went to the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven, and stayed with him.
(CCC 2584) In their "one to one" encounters with God, the prophets draw light and strength for their mission. Their prayer is not flight from this unfaithful world, but rather attentiveness to the Word of God. At times their prayer is an argument or a complaint, but it is always an intercession that awaits and prepares for the intervention of the Savior God, the Lord of history (Cf. Am 7:2, 5; Isa 6:5, 8, 11; Jer 1:6; 15:15-18; 20:7-18).

Christian persecution is on the rise in the Muslim world. Radical Islam is not only a security threat to Western nations, but also a threat to life and limb to those Christians communities spread thin through the Islamic controlled parts of the world. And those areas of the world are no longer just the
Middle East, and
Indonesia, but parts of many European cities are becoming no go zones for Christians and Jews alike due to Muslim extremism, (parts of
