Does anyone know who won the Pistons/Celtics game? It was quite a game and very Christmas-y, what with the Celtics running around in their home greens. I didn't know who to root for, since I am a Pistons fan. But it is so wonderful to see Kevin Garnet, who has been languishing for 12 years in the frozen north and Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, who has spent his career slogging through the rain in Seattle, form the basis of such a great team. We'll see what happens when they have to start playing in the West.
The game went on too long for me to catch the end. We don't want Sister Mary Fiacre falling asleep in her chair so soundly that we can't get her into bed. I think she's a Celtics fan. Hard to tell.

Let's take your points one at a time.
Dec 25th. Here in the Catholic Church we are all about focusing. Jesus had a lot to say to us. He did a lot of things. He gave us examples of what to think, how to think about things, and how to behave. He talked about children, wives, husbands, sin, faith, taxes, work, strength, courage, wine, farming and dinner plans. While we don't have any problem with big blanket concepts like "God is Love", it doesn't really help us out much on a day to day basis.
So we've made a map, so to speak, of the life Jesus led and the things He did and said so we can focus our own lives more completely with the life of Christ day by day. You don't have to follow the map if you don't want to. You can wander off and find that great out of the way Jesus Bed and Breakfast. It's all good.
We picked Dec 25th because it is the day, literally, when the light starts coming back to the world. The days are shorter and shorter before Dec. 25th, and from Dec. 25th they grow longer and longer. We took the old pagan holiday that celebrated that same thing and attached Jesus to it. Bingo! The pagans got it.
I have to say, I'm kind of surprised that you don't get it. Those pagans thought the sun revolved around the earth and didn't know to wash their hands before performing surgery. They got it. The Light has come back.
Even Jesus spoke in parables. Parables are symbolic language. Speaking of symbols:
The gaudy lighted pine tree.
Pine (tree) is the operative word here. Evergreen. Always living. (Ring any bells yet?) Never dies. This is another symbol that used to be a pagan thing. We attached Jesus to it. They got it. They thought that cats were from the devil and could suck the oxygen out of your lungs and kill you while you slept, but they got the pine tree thing.
The lights, like the candles in church, are symbols of Christ (the Light of the World). Really cheery ones at that. It doesn't have to be gaudy. We have no control over individual taste. We wish we did.
Giving presents to people who are not Jesus.
Boy, this one shocks me. "Whatsoever you do the least of my brothers, this you do unto me." For one thing.
But here is where it all comes together, the lights and the tree that have reminded us to focus our attention on Dec. 25th. We are focusing on the fact that the Mighty King of Heaven was born in the lowliest of places. Ever ask yourself why?
A historical nugget: Shepherds were the lowliest of the low. Everyone would have understood, back then, that if shepherds were around, we were talking about the poorest and the dumbest.
They were the first people called to see Jesus. That is a message from God.
They brought gifts.
We are to see Jesus in each other and to love each other as He loved us. We give each other gifts on His Birthday.
It's not rocket science.
The Mighty King of Heaven was born in a dumpy dirty place with dirty stupid people as His first visitors. It's very important news. Very happy news. It's a birthday party.
Years ago I had a friend who said to me, "I've figured out why people get depressed when other people forget their birthdays."
"Do tell," I said.
"It's because when people forget your birthday it's like they're saying I don't care that you were born. Remembering someone's birthday is like saying, 'I'm glad you were born.'
We are remembering Jesus' birthday and saying, "We're glad You were born." And we're celebrating the way He asked us to celebrate Him, by seeing Him in each other.
And while there is some fiction to Santa, Santa is not fiction. Santa just had his named changed at Ellis Island like a lot of other people. Let's talk about him tomorrow.

Like any subject, it's probably best to try to think of the First Things. What I mean is, what are at the roots of the environmental movement? What are the primary ideas involved? How do those ideas compare with Scripture?
Now that I have asked these questions, I intend not to answer them. He he. At least not "all" of them. I want today to focus on only one of environmentalism's First Things, an underlying assumption that is primary, I believe, to understanding the movement.
It is encapsulated in the phrase "for the planet". Sometimes, I hear it termed "for the earth". I've come across this sort of thinking in much of my gardening research. Typically the author will not just say that something is better for the earth, but that they are straining to do something "for the good of the earth or the planet".
Why does this raise a red flag?
Don't worry, that was a rhetorical question.
I see this sort of reasoning as being antithetical to the idea of taking dominion. And now I will do my best to explain why.
Once upon a time, in the late 1980s, I was introduced to the idea of Gaia worship as a foundation of environmentalism. I have noticed ever since that the earth, or more rightly "E"arth, is often personified within the movement. Sometimes it is subtle, sometimes it is overt. But often, it is there, this hovering sense that the Earth is living in a "spiritual" sense. It must not only be "saved"; it must be "served". And we exist to pay her homage.
The blogger Mark, the Multifarious Modernist wrote a post on Gaia Theory back in January. In it, he mused:
...if we, conscious organisms, are indeed just an extension of Gaia {and the Universe as a whole}, then could 'she' not be said to be conscious, on some level, through us?...if Gaia does indeed exist, then does not our short sighted, self-serving exploitation of 'her' not resemble that of a cancer or harmful parasite, methodically killing it's host and hence ultimately itself?
This theory now has an increasingly strong following among many Scientists, Futurists and Environmentalists; the main criticisms concerning the quasi-religious connotations of the word Gaia and the fact that some Gaia theorists imply that the Planet will literally 'get revenge' if we continue abusing it.
For some scientists, Gaia Theory is purely metaphorical. The name was taken from an ancient pagan deity, also known as the Mother Goddess. This is akin to naming the theory Mother Nature Theory {to use a term from our own culture}. For others, however, there is a religious nature involved. For instance, we see shades of Hinduism in the form of a goddess, Buddhism in the form of all of us being not just connected, but "one."
By the way, Gaia Theory is actually a pagan interpretation of something that is mentioned in Scripture. Think of the overwhelming symbiosis of it all. Everything is held together. Dissimilar organisms live in harmony and are mutually beneficial. From the tiniest atom, to the farthest corners of the universe, the created world looks as if it should fall apart into chaos, and yet it never does. Colossians 1:7 explains that our Lord was before all things "and holds them all together". It is His will and purpose that Gaia Theory is attempting to explain.
Christians start from a very different point when thinking about these issues. Sure, we believe the earth is to be cherished. And, sure, we think it is our job to do so. It is the "why" we think these things that sets us apart in dramatic fashion.
When we head to the earliest chapters of Genesis and the creation account, we see, first of all, that the earth was planned, sculpted, "created" by the Lord we serve. That is a good enough reason to cherish and respect it. It is other than us, and yet created for us as the perfect place for us to live and build culture. However, the Bible elaborates and tells us that God created male and female and gave them the job of tending the garden. He commands them to have dominion over all the creatures and over the earth itself. The original Mr. Webster defined dominion as
Sovereign or supreme authority; the power of governing and controlling.Supreme authority means we have the right to do as we wish. However, being that we are created in God's image, and that He so tenderly crafted this world, there is, I think, an assumption that we, too, would be caring and loving in our actions toward creation.
Genesis also reveals the source of difficulty, the Fall of Man. When Man is cast out of the garden, it is said that, instead of tending a preexisting garden that is perfect in every way, and expanding it over time as they are fruitful and increase in number, they must work the ground outside of the garden. Here enters toil, sweat, and also failure. Man may slave over the ground, but it will not always yield to him. Crops may fail. Droughts may plague. Floods may destroy. The Man given the supreme authority becomes, in one sense, powerless.
Going through all of us helps us understand a few things. It is made obvious Whom we are to serve and what we are to govern. We are created to be in authority "over" the earth and its inhabitants while being in subservience to the Creator. More importantly, the account of the Fall shows us that it is "we", and not the planet, who are in need of saving.
I try to take these distinctions to heart and make sure that what I am doing is being done within a Biblical mindset. This means that, if I conserve water, I am not doing something "for the earth" {which implies that I am doing something in its service}. Rather, as one who has dominion over one small plot of land, I am making the types of decisions a responsible steward should make. I live in a desert, so I am making sure there is also enough water for my neighbors by not using more than is necessary. Because I care about the things that God has made, I will shun waste {which was considered sinful by Christians until the early 1900s}. But all of this flows from the idea that I govern the garden while serving the Lord.
Many of environmentalism's pet causes have a panic mindset to them. Global warming is the most obvious, with the outlook for all of creation being quite dour. Ted Turner recently revealed the extent of the alarmism:
We'll be eight degrees hotter in ten, not ten but 30 or 40 years and basically none of the crops will grow. Most of the people will have died and the rest of us will be cannibals. Civilization will have broken down. The few people left will be living in a failed state - like Somalia or Sudan - and living conditions will be intolerable. The droughts will be so bad there'll be no more corn grown.I am not interested in debating global warming. What I am interested in is seeing Christians feel empowered to rise to their position in the created order. They do not need to worry or be reactionary. Rather, they are free to live out God's calling. They can seek wisdom and tend the garden responsibly. And they can know that, in the end, it matters that they served God well and took their dominion seriously. We can also rest in the fact that it is our Lord, and not us, who holds all created things together. These underlying assumptions, which differentiate us from secular environmentalists, also allow us to maintain the peaceful demeanor which Scripture so often attributes to believers. Internal peace is best generated by resting in actual truth.

If you are serious about casting magic spells and magic in general, you will soon find that acquiring some simple magic equipment is a must.
You can of course go to your nearest magic supply shop and come home with an armful of packets and boxes containing brand new magic wands, owl feathers, incense burners, silver goblets etc.
Now I am not against everything new, but in magic, an item with some history will have a personality of its own, and will bring it's own special vibe into your ritual.
That's why you can get beautiful silver goblets, candle holders, incense burners, glass balls and ceramic bowls in brick-brack shops, charity stalls and flea markets. Make sure you clean them well after you bring them home, handle them lovingly for some time, and consecrate them with the four elements as well as your own personality before you use them.
Yes, you could end up with some magic equipment, which has a bad, or sad history and bad vibes in them. It is very rare, and you would soon get the feeling, that you are not comfortable with an item. If that happens, discard it and don't use it. But generally, with such non-essential and peripheral magical equipment such as bowls, goblets, candle holders, it's usually much better to acquire old, rather than brand new. The older, the better.
There are of course exceptions. Never buy a used magic wand, or an athame. If you get one from a friend, or inherit one from someone you know well, that would be fine. But Magic wands and athames have a lot of power of the original owner stored in them. That magic power might not be compatible with yours. So get new ones, consecrate and initiate them yourself.
And cast away.

I've been away since last weekend and I managed to miss the biggest news week for pagans and witches in a long time.
While I was in Sussex out and about enjoying some glorious autumn weather, celebrating the equinox and not paying much attention to the news, the story broke that American Republican Senate candidate for Delaware, Christine O'Donnell, claimed to have dabbled in witchcraft.
Apparently she said: "One of my first dates with a witch was on a Satanic altar. We went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar."
When asked further about this, she had replied: "How many of you didn't hang out with questionable folks in high school?"
The comments, understandably, angered witches, wiccans and pagans. Wiccans and most modern witches are not Satanists, they are nature worshippers and honour the pagan gods and goddesses of the Earth and the heavens. They do not worship Satan, who is the devil in Christian mythology. They also don't like to be called "questionable".
However, this is old news for a far better reason than the fact that I was a few days late writing about it, as Christine O'Donnell's original comment was made about a decade ago.
Nevertheless, this has prompted considerable debate in the press and on the internet and some of the comments made are very interesting. So, just in case you have missed the news like me, here are some links so you can read the reports yourself.

Accepting responsibility for your own actions is essential to your spiritual growth and power. As described in Law #3 of this blog, what you send out is what you get in return.
All of us have our short comings and failures to be moral. When I first began my journey into witchcraft, I failed to understand the Law of Three. To me, love was a good emotion and there was someone in my life that I loved and from what she said, she loved me. Even despite the fact that our relationship had crumbled around us and she was seeing my former best friend, we remained close friends and did many things together.
So in my ignorance, I perceived my former friend as being the evil one since he was a manipulator and managed to wiggle his way into our relationship. I went to my local pagan supplier and purchased some items I needed for a love sachet to draw her love back to me. The person who was there was not a regular employee and I tried to get "approval" that this spell was not wrong to do and received it. I used rose quartz, an earring that she left behind the last night I was with her, some rose petals and other herbs I will not describe here. I purchased a silver chain to support the sachet around my neck. I performed a powerful love spell the day of the full moon for three hours, then the next day and the next after that repeating what I did on the first day including disassembling my sachet before the ritual and reassembling it during the ritual.
I wore it openly in front of her and when she asked me about it, I informed her it was to draw love to me. I did not explain the intentions. The next three months became a nightmare. She began to become very confused between my old friend and I and it was tearing her apart. She kept thinking of me and dreaming of me until eventually, she broke away from him to have a relationship with me.
The conditions of our reunion was that she was not to see him ever again and if she did, our relationship would never continue. She followed it blindly until he called her to have lunch with her. She went and came straight to me afterward. I was devastated and then I realized that I was the source of the issues at hand.
I removed my sachet from my neck and looked her straight in the eye. I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut the top of it off and said, "I release you from my magic."
She didn't understand what was going on, but as I let the contents of the bag fall to the table, she noticed hear earring. But what she didn't understand is that the white crystal in front of her was originally pink when I made the bag!
That's when I knew my spell was powerful. And I told her my story, just as I did here. At first she began to resent me, but then she accepted her part and my old friend's part in all of it and we all accepted responsibility for all of our actions. This healed each of us in ways that we are all still unable to phantom.
So, I made a huge mistake, but looking back, I realized that I knew deep down that it was wrong even with someone telling me it wasn't.
The devil does exist and in some religions such as Christianity, he is a true entity. That is perfectly ok for those who chose that belief in their life path.
I urge you to not consider the outside influences and blame them for your weakness. I challenge you to look the devil that is you and within you and understand that you are human and mistakes are essential keys to spiritual growth and will accelerate your life path in the right direction if you accept your failures as what they are.

We pray you are having a blessed and highly favored week! We want to challenge you to reach out to others that are in your path. When you were in school, it is easy to see the person having lunch alone and know that they need a friend but what about in the "real world?" What about the person at the grocery store who goes just to get out of the house and be around people? What about the person in the cubicle next to you who you just give the head nod to each morning to acknowledge you see them but have never had a conversation with? Will people think I am weird if I try to befriend them and start conversation with them? Maybe...but that is a risk you should take! Are you being a friend...an intentional friend? We ask God for ministry opportunities or tell Him to use us but we are so caught up with ourselves that we don't notice others around us. Reach out to someone different this week. Be a friend, show the love of Christ, and remember the friendship that the Lord has given to you!
This past week we had about 85 teenagers come through and saw their lives wrecked for Jesus as they served on the streets. It is so great to hear a 15 year-old say, "I will never complain to my mom again about not having any food in the house. We have so much and my eyes have really been opened this week!" Praise the Lord for working on our youth and building up a generation for Him! We had a baptism service and celebrated 7 lives making the public dedication to Christ! There has been fruit and God has allowed us to see lives changed! Because the Lord is doing so much, the enemy is trying hard to distract and discourage. We covet your prayers for strength and endurance. He is faithful though and continues to provide the courage to persevere and the love in abundance for Him and for others!

In short, I am sick and weary of the subject before Ive even considered writing the first word of the first sentence. This is a great shame since I have already expended a great deal of mental effort thinking about the subject, as you can see from the brief paragraph outlines above.
If only it were possible to take all those uncoordinated, unorganized thoughts and magically transform them into publishable blog form without actually sitting down at my computer and completing all that tedious typing. If only I had a secretary to act as a 200WPM milkmaid for the rich cream of my creativity, then I could pace around and pontificate to my hearts content while she tapped away.
Alas, I am but a humble scribe with no means to support such luxuries. The only office aides I have at my disposal are grim determination and black coffee.

If you are talented enough you may even write a sentence like "I WANT 1000 " or maybe "I AM HANDSOME", "I AM HAPPY", or even maybe "I AM A WIZARD"!

When you are done writing what you wish, take the apple, and START EATING IT CLOCKWISE. With every bite you take, you get what you desire. Now that you've eaten the Apple your wish has already become reality in you.

As I said on William Henry's show in December (and here as well) we need to be on the lookout for water symbolism this year, as well as mermaid/mermen and other symbols associated with Sirius in esoteric lore. The recent Serious Mysteries posts explored these memes in depth, particularly as they relate to James Cameron, who is obviously very deeply obsessed with both aliens and the oceans (and Gus Grissom, strangely enough).
Well, much to my surprise the Grammy Awards turned out to be a motherlode of these 2010 memes. Though Cousin Beyonce and Lady GorGon went out of their way to steal everyone's attention (as usual), it was Pink who came through with the hardcore symbolic booty. And this wasn't the kind of garbled, rudimentary, pseudo-Masonic tedium that's being tossed lately by artists like Jay-Z or Rihanna- no, this was something else entirely...
The performance opened with the stage done up in a deep, blue, undulating oceanic motif, almost as if Pink were under water (like a mermaid). As she made her entrance, a bright light flashed like a star, as if she were emerging from it.
Secret Sun readers are well familiar with the star Sirius and its identification with Isis, and that visual juxtaposition reminds us of Isis' title as the Stella Maris, or 'Star of the Sea', which sailors used to navigate by in ancient times. Later this role was assumed by the Virgin Mary, as we see in this dramatic illustration.
As she emerged, we saw that Pink was dressed in a white robe and veil, reminiscent of the one Beyonce wore when standing at the foot of the Sphinx at Giza (which brings us back again to Isis). Note also that in Greece and Rome, Isis had absorbed Hathor's sistrum and her role as patroness of music, appropriately enough.
We then see two lights above Pink. As every Secret Sun reader is sick of hearing, Sirius is a binary star system. But this may also have a double meaning, as all potent symbols do.
But it's right here that we get our money shot- the goddess descending the Stairway from Sirius. It doesn't get any more explicit than that.
And here it is again- the Stairway, the Blazing Star, the goddess. Note that the three stage lights correspond to the Sun, Sirius and the Moon in the tracing board iconography.
But we're just getting started...
...because Pink then removes her veil and her robe, revealing a costume not only highly reminiscent of Leeloo in the The Fifth Element, but also of this famous statue of Isis-Venus. (break out your "Isis Unveiled" jokes now). Of course, Pink is also distinctly androgynous which may earn some extra symbolism points as well.
Pink is then suspended from midair with three other women, where she continues to sing while performing some pretty damn impressive acrobatics. But what part could the three women be playing in this apparent symbolic drama?
According to Wikipedia, "The Belt of Orion" constellation in Latin America is called as "Las Tres Mar'ias" (The Three Marys). I suspected as much. But if that's so what's the connection with the three women at the top and Pink suspended beneath them?
Note again the cluster of lights behind this performance- again we see a kind of star effect...
...is it meant to correspond to this? Wiki again:
Orion is very useful as an aid to locating other stars. By extending the line of the Belt southeastward, Sirius can be found...additionally, Rigel is part of the Winter Circle. Sirius and Procyon, which may be located from Orion by tracing lines, also are points in both the Winter Triangle and the Circle.Note how the angle linking Orion to Sirius corresponds to the shape of the strap (or belt if you prefer) which is holding Pink aloft.
Here's the grand finale- Pink is drenched then pulled back into the air where she spins and sprays the audience like some kind of baptism. Given the obvious water symbolism and the Isis parallels, I couldn't help but think back to this...
...from December 17. Remember that red granite pylon from the Temple of Isis? This was part of the big finale of the Stairway to Sirius, Revisited series, which kicked off with the aerial anomaly over Norway. Kind of brings everything full circle, doesn't it? What are the odds?
Funny thing about Egyptian red granite, though- it's more what you'd call...pink.
I won't sit here and tell you what it all means. But I will go back to what I said after the 2008 Election, when we first began exploring this enigmatic iconography. After looking at the history of secret societies, I confessed that years of studying some of the well-known Masonic and occult texts had left me completely baffled as to what all the fuss was about:

It seems the phenomenon of Protestant propagandist misrepresentation of English history is inescapable this week. First, the Orangemen paraded inaccurate images of the Battle of the Boyne; now the London Dungeon is in trouble over its advertisements featuring "Bloody Mary" Tudor - Queen Mary I - on the London Underground. The complaint against the Dungeon is not that it perpetuated a sectarian myth but that it terrified children by juxtaposing a normal portrait of the Queen alongside one of her transforming into a flesh-eating zombie.
Actually the image does not appear any more terrifying than the average poster advertising horror videos or heavy metal bands; but the Advertising Standards Authority has prohibited further use of it. The poster was promoting a new show entitled "Bloody Mary". A Dungeon spokesman was quoted as saying: "Bloody Mary killed over 300 heretics during her reign but was one of Britain's lesser known villainous figures, overshadowed by her notorious father Henry VIII. The object of the advertising was to show the dark side of her personality and portray her as a villain."
In other words, to promote junk history. Well, the London Dungeon is hardly an academic institution and at least he had the grace to admit that Henry VIII was "notorious". That raises the question: why, in that case, devote a show about an "evil" monarch to Mary I, rather than Henry VIII? Because that is the black legend that has been perpetuated by establishment propaganda since the reign of Elizabeth I, is the evident answer. Even today, schools and universities are still subject to the mythology created by Sir Francis Walsingham and other creatures of Elizabeth, carried on by Victorian poets - "Fall into the hands of God, not into the hands of Spain..." and all that tosh.
Mary I burned 284 Protestant heretics, according to John Foxe's "Book of Martyrs", which is unlikely to be an underestimate. Estimates of the number of executions carried out by Henry VIII range from 57,000 to the 72,000 claimed in Raphael Holinshed's "Chronicles" (the mass murder following the Catholic rising known as the Pilgrimage of Grace should be taken into account). The troops of his son Edward VI massacred more than 5,500 Cornish Catholics in the wake of the Prayer Book Rebellion. Elizabeth I was more sparing of formal executions, though St Margaret Clitheroe was pressed to death at York and Mary Queen of Scots beheaded; but the butchery in Ireland was appalling. There, Edmund Spenser, author of "The Faerie Queene", supported a policy of extermination by artificial famine on a scale that was not exceeded until Stalin in the 1930s.

So, why is it "Bloody Mary", but "Bluff King Hal", when the executions he ordered exceeded his daughter's by more than 56,000 at the least? Why not "Bloody Harry"? Obviously, because he was the founder of the Church of England. That did not prevent him from burning the more advanced Protestant Anne Askew, who had the privilege of being racked in the Tower of London by the Lord Chancellor in person, which suggests that the divisions between conflicting wings of the Church of England were at least as vicious then as now.The most recent study of Mary's reign, Eamon Duffy's "Fires of Faith: Catholic England Under Mary Tudor", authoritatively demonstrates that England at her accession remained a Catholic country at heart and was relieved to return to the practices of the old faith, which had not been abandoned out of mass apostasy but only in obedience to the personal policy of Henry VIII, enforced by terror.
This country remains marinated in anti-Catholic mythology as a consequence of centuries of relentless propaganda by establishment interest groups. The cult of "No Popery", enshrined by statute in the Act of Settlement and currently being ventilated in opposition to the papal visit, is the one tolerated prejudice in an age of hysterical paranoia against "discrimination". Fun venues such as the London Dungeon are hardly to be taken seriously; but it could be argued that in perpetuating anti-Catholic mythology in children's minds it is pursuing a course that would get it into serious trouble if directed against any other minority group. The root problem is historical illiteracy and it will take the reform of weightier institutions than the London Dungeon to correct that.

From time to time we will want to send healing energy to a friend. How many of you know how to do this? One simple method that I love to use is the ball of light. Make sure you ground and center before beginning this. Then work to form a ball of energy within your hands. Visualize it being full of light, love and healing energy. Shape it with your hands and try to feel the energy pulsating. Once you are comfortable with it, you can then customize it for the intended recipient. So for example if your friend Suze has the flu, you could envision her being well. While you do this ask the Goddess, and the energies of the universe to send healing energies to her. When you are ready to send the energy to your recipient, then blow on your hands and "send" the ball of healing energy to the intended person or recipient.
This is the first method I learned to send healing energy. I learned this from a book called Mindlight, by Silver Ravenwolf, several years ago. For those of you just starting to work with energy, I highly recommend this book. It really helped me to learn how to control energy and work with it to do as I wanted it to. When you just start out, it can be difficult to learn to work with somethng that isn't easy for all of us to see. The exercises in this book, taught me how to feel the energy first, and then I was able to see it later on. I hope this helps!
As I said, this is just one of the many methods to send healing energy, but I thought it was a simple one to start working with. :)))
