STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES AND ETHICS-LIFEWAY SHAMANIC FELLOWSHIP

1.) PURPOSES:
This is an era of decision. Do we allow ourselves to cut the
throat of the Mother Who has nourished us as a species since
we "came down from the trees"? Or do we work to walk in
Beauty and Harmony with Her, and cherish Her, and work to
see Her healed? The resurgence of Shamanism, the primal
Earth Religion of practically all of the Earth's
pre-Agrarian cultures, is an important thing, foretold by
the Paiute prophet Wovoka and in the Hopi Prophecies. It
was said that both the Red Man would return to the Ways of
the Old Ones and that the non-Native would also embrace the
Lifeway. There are non-Natives who respectfully have chosen
these Ways, and are carrying them on in a reverent way. If
the Lifeway was only given for the Native peoples, it would
die out within our lifetime. There are simply not enough
traditional Elders left.
It has been shown to some of us that Our Mother The Earth is
not willing to die quietly. She has demonstrated this by
the increase in natural disasters of the past decade, which
continue day by day. The Hopi prophecies state that, when
the "bowl full of ashes" (most interpret this as the
Thermonuclear Bomb) is overturned, that Our Mother shall
rise up in Her righteous anger and destroy humanity. This
prophecy is coming true, although it may yet be reversable.
Perhaps it is we who reverence the Ways and walk in harmony
with Our Mother that may stay Her hand.
The Lifeway Fellowship is here for those who wish to honor
Our Mother and Our Father, Earth and Sky, and to honor The
Giver Of Life, from whence all things flow in the Universe.
Our world-view is primarily allied with that of the
Navajo/Dineh, Apache/Teneh, and Hopi peoples. However we do
not represent ourselves as the keepers of those ways. The
secrets of those Nations are for them alone, unless Usen'
wishes to reveal them to us. Our mission is to help heal
Our Mother, The Earth, and to help each other walk in closer
harmony with Her. We also exist to provide a way for urban
and sub-urban people to learn and practice the root Shamanic
techniques that aid us in finding our True Vision and True
Way of Power, and following that Vision and that Way.
We identify ourselves as Pagan (Webster's New World
Dictionary "1. b)...a person who is not a Christian, Moslem,
or Jew (by faith); heathen. Pagan specifically refers to one
of the ancient polytheistic (or pantheistic) peoples.") and
as unashamed Pantheists and Polytheists. The Lifeway
is truly a religious commitment. No-one can make a commitment
to the Lifeway and to the worship of Life Giver, The Earth
Mother and The Sky Father and remain a worshiper of other
Paradigms of the Deity, much as one cannot be a Christian
and worship the Greco-Roman pantheon. However this does not
imply the condemnation of other Paradigms, nor impel a duty to
"convert" others.
We stand by other Pagans who do not share our paradigms, IE.
Wiccans, Asatruans, Hellenists, and other Shamanic traditions,
(African and neo-African(Santeria & Voudoun), Australian,
Siberian, Traditional Native American, and Polynesian, to name
a few) and even though we may disagree with some or all of
their practices and beliefs, they are Brothers, Sisters and
Cousins, and in times of persecution as well as times of
goodwill we must defend them. We may even share in their open
rituals and allow them to share in our open ceremonials. But
that which is ours must remain ours, just as that which is
theirs must remain theirs.
2.) THE(A)OLOGY:
As our Fellowship is inherently religious, we must declare a
The(a)ology. (The strange spelling refers to the fact that
we acknowledge a Goddess as well as a God)
This is summed up very easily. There are three main powers
we worship, Usen' the Life Giver, The Earth Mother, and The
Sky Father. The latter Two are emanations of the First, as
all, including the God and the Goddess, are emanations from
Usen', which is the primaeval First Cause.
Usen': One cannot look upon The Life Giver as either Male or
Female, for The Life Giver is beyond those distinctions.
Usen', and The Life Giver, are names for this First Cause,
this Force that pervades all and caused all to come into
being. From Usen', the God, Sky Father, and the Goddess,
Earth Mother, emanate, as the lesser Deities emanate from
Them.
The Earth Mother: We live and walk and are sustained from
The Earth Mother, which is our Earth. She is alive, and we
all exist within Her as part of Her structure. Science,
through the Gaea Hypothesis, has finally acknowledged Her
existence, and some even have learnt the lesson that our
duty in this life is to care for and honor Her. This is a
lesson that all must learn, for as long as we despoil Her,
we risk Her wrath. She is expressed through the faces of
White Painted Woman, Who is The Woman Warrior, through Corn
Mother, Who is The Nourishing Mother, and through Spider
Woman, Who is The Wise Woman, The Ancient One, The Custodian
of Wisdom. Women are acknowledged as being human represent-
atives of The Earth Mother.
The Sky Father: Just as among we Humans, there is both Man
and Woman, so there is no Earth Mother without Sky Father.
Sky Father is the air we breathe, the flame that gives us
warmth and cooks our food, and brings forth the rain that
fertilizes Our Mother and allows Her to provide us with
the crops and animals that sustain us. Sky Father is also
expressed as The Hunter, The Warrior, and First Shaman, and
is also expressed in Killer Of Enemies and The Child Of
Water. He is also present and acknowledged as being present
in every Man.
There are other spirits that exist in the Universe, some
beneficient, some maleficient. But most important is Usen',
Earth Mother, and Sky Father. By walking in harmony with the
God(esse)s, one can tell the Good from the Evil, welcoming
in Good, and protecting each other from Evil.
3.) ETHICS:
We have our code of Ethics. It is neither lengthy nor
overly restrictive. We do not include ancient taboos in
this list, such as Mother-In-Law avoidance or the taboo
against Fish, because they may not apply nowadays. If you
wish to not eat fish or to avoid your Mother-In-Law for
religious reasons, it is your perogative. But it is not a
requirement.
1.) If the action does not harm yourself, other people or
intelligent beings, or Our Mother The Earth, you are free to
do as you wish.
2.) To charge for healings, sweats or ceremonials is totally
wrong and extremely offensive. Also, to charge excessively
for teaching is equally offensive, but a modest fee
over expenses is allowable. Your conscience is the best
guide, that and the Will of the Deities.
3.) Magick should be limited only to protection of Self and
Loved Ones, and to healing and helping those in need,
provided that permission is given by the patient and that
help other than healing does not interfere with the Will of
others. Magick that is used in a coercive (IE. Love spells)
or destructive (harming or killing magick) way is patently
wrong and is considered Black Magick.
4.) Contact of spirits by any means other than Shamanic
journeying or the Vision Quest is very risky, and Possession
is a real possibility. The practice of mediumship, or
"channeling" has no place in the Lifeway, and exposes not
only Self but others to danger.
5.) Permission must always be asked of the spirits of plants
and/or animals before taking them for either sustenance or
for medicine.
6.) One's visions and one's personal ceremonies are one's
own. Personal visions should not be spoken of, but shared
visions are for all of the group.
7.) It is wrong to criticise another within the group or
outside the group. Racism, sexism, xenophobia or general
disrespect of others has no place in the Fellowship.
Individual decisions about lifestyle and other ethical
issues not covered here are an individual's own affair.
4.):GROUP STRUCTURE AND INITIATION PRACTICES
There is only one Initiation, which is the Initiation that
makes one Kin within the group and in the sight of The
Deities. It is given after one has taken their first Vision
Quest, has found their Power Animal(s) and has met the
Shaman Within. It can only be denied to those who have met
these requirements, is younger than the legal Age Of Consent
(in most places, 18 years) is not of sound mind, and/or is
under suspicion of being a Law Enforcement Officer or other
person antipathetic to Pagan and/or Shamanic belief
who requests initiation for fraudulent purposes (usually to
infilitrate to either sabotage or publically discredit the
Fellowship) Initiation must not be denied on account of
physical disabilities, blindness, deafness, or sterility,
nor on account of sex, race, nationality, political belief,
or sexual preference.
There are no set offices within the Fellowship. Ideally,
leadership should be by consensus, with true leaders being
temporary and purpose-oriented. Facilitation of rituals may
be done by any Initiate of the Fellowship. ANYONE WHO
REPRESENTS THEMSELVES AS A HIGH PRIEST/ESS OF THE LIFEWAY
SHAMANIC FELLOWSHIP IS A FRAUD, AND IS DOING SO CONTRARY TO
THIS STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES AND ETHICS.
Support of the Fellowship is done on a purely voluntary and
mutual basis. No tithe or dues should be assessed unless
they have been agreed upon by all members, initiates and
non-initiates alike.
Membership is extended to all. But initiation is reserved
for those who meet the criteria mentioned above.
Non-initiates can participate in open ceremonials and in
basic workshops, but may be denied participation in certain
ceremonials and advanced workshops.
5.) THE QUESTION OF RECOGNIZING SHAMANS
In traditional societies, the title Shaman was not just an
honorific, or recognition of talents. Nor was it the
highest initiatory level in a Shamanic society. The Shaman
was, in most cases, above the Chief in decision-making power
and was judge, doctor, father-confessor, and intercessor
with the Deities for the tribe. Some Shamanic societies are
now providing their membership with "Shaman training
seminars" and "Shaman apprenticeships" that can be had for
an exorbitant price. This implies that the cost of being a
Shaman can be paid in money and in a set amount of time.
This is not the case. Many tribes believe that the office
of Shaman is not one that is earned, but one that one is
born into. Certainly, the skills are never something one is
born with, and this is not merely hereditary. Rather, when
a child is born, the current Shaman would recognize that the
child had the POTENTIAL of being the next one, and the
child's training would begin when they were considered ready
by the Shaman. At adulthood, they would be tested. If they
passed the test, they would become the next Shaman. If they
failed, usually the test was such that they would either die
outright, or they would go insane. Many "heroic quest"
tales, and most notably the Arthurian legends have echoes of
this practice within the ancient Shamanic traditions of
Europe.
But the point that is being made here is that we should not
go back to that sort of way of doing things, because in this
society it is nigh on impossible. The stand I am offering
here is that recognition as a Shaman can be conferred only
through shared vision, and signs from the Deities. It is
not my place to say what the signs are...it will be obvious
to the Fellowship. I am not Shaman myself, and will not
brook anyone calling me that. This is something I place in
the lap of the Deities to decide. I cannot do anything
more. It is a mockery of those people that can truly be
called Shamans, who are respected, powerful people of
traditional tribes, to do anything less. In any event, to
claim such a title is definately not enough, and is
punishable by withdrawing Fellowship from the one who claims
to be Shaman falsely.
6.) FESTIVALS AND WORSHIP DAYS
The festivals are reckoned as they have been for centuries
by most Southwestern tribes, by both the Sun and the Moon.
The seasons begin on the first full moon after a Solstice or
an Equinox. The Solstices and Equinoxes themselves are
times of celebration as well, and perhaps the period between
the two (which usually works out to be no more than a week
or so) could be considered a time of Holiday. Lesser
ceremonials are held on New Moons and Full Moons between the
first Full Moons of the seasons. Optionally certain Pagan
festivals could be celebrated in conjunction with other
groups, but they are not to be adopted as official Lifeway
Fellowship ceremonial days.
There are other ceremonials that are personal in nature, and
can be held at any time, although synchronizing them with
the Festivals and the New and Full Moons is advisable. They
are Naming, where a newborn child is named in the presence
of the group and their Life-beads given; Coming Of Age,
where the child's physical maturity is acknowledged, and
where, for a short time, they become Child of the Water (if
a boy) or White Painted Woman (if a girl); Initiation, where
a person becomes a full-fledged member of the group, given
after a person becomes a legal adult; Joining, where a man
and a woman consent to be married; Unjoining, where a man
and woman who are married consent to have the bond
dissolved, which is to be done only after four reconcili-
ation attempts fail or after evidence of marital infidelity
or abuse is given before the group; the Moonlodge, which is
a special sweat for women in their Moon-time; and Release,
where a ceremony for a dead member of the Fellowship is done
to guide their soul Back Home. Other ceremonials that are
dreamed or envisioned by a person or group are also
encouraged.
7.) SUMMING UP
A few quick ones: One can be either clothed or unclothed at
ceremonies, but it should be known that none of the
Southwestern tribes did ceremonies in the nude. However,
one should disrobe for the sweat lodge, as clothes are not
only uncomfortable within the sweat lodge, but interfere
with the cleansing process of the lodge.
This Statement can be accepted or rejected by individual
groups that federate themselves with Lifeway Fellowship. But
federation can be denied to those groups who stray too far
from some of the basic guidelines, or do anything that would
sully the reputation of the Fellowship in general.

May Day is a festival with pagan origins that survived long after Christianity tried to stamp it out, perhaps because it is hard to repress the urge to party when blossom is on the trees and the days are finally warm enough to throw off winter clothing.
On May 1 and over the bank holiday weekend, towns and villages throughout England will be choosing a Queen of the May and enjoying fetes, fairs and carnivals.
It was once also traditional to choose a King of the May as the May Queen's consort for the day. In some communities, a variation on the theme was to dress a man as Jack o' the Green. He was covered in a wickerwork frame dressed in leaves and flowers and would lead a procession through the town, inviting bystanders to join in and culminating in a dance. Unlike Edward Woodward's character in the film The Wicker Man, he wasn't likely to be burnt to death, although fire did play a big part in May Day celebrations.
For the ancient Celts, May Day was celebrated as "Beltane" or the "Day of Fire" - Bel or Belenus was a Celtic god associated with the sun and with heat. Celebrations involved burning bonfires and jumping over the flames and sometimes driving cattle through the smoke to give them the god's blessings. Apparently it was also a cure for parasites. The Saxons also celebrated this time of the year by lighting fires on the evening of April 30 t0 marked the end of winter, followed by games and feasting.
May Day as also a celebration of fertility and an example of this is the maypole, a phallic symbol around which young men and women would dance, holding on to the ribbons until they became entwined. The earliest written records of maypoles in England date from the 14th century but it is likely that they existed before that. In earlier traditions, a tree might have been danced around rather than a cut wooden pole.
For modern pagans - and possibly our ancestors - May Day fertility rites can sometimes be an excuse for a wild party. So, if you are invited to a Beltane ritual, it is worthwhile asking if it is likely to get nude and lewd...

Re: banes
I surely agree that we have every right to protect ourselves and our
"own folk" from attack. But I do believe that shield and mirror workings
are more efficient, effective and elegant at accomplishing the gocal of
self-protection. Consider this - a mirror working is perfect justice. If
I am mistaken, either that psychic attact is being done at all or about
the perpetrator, a bane will jeapordize me karmically and (if psychic
attact truly is being done by somebody other than the one I suspect)
fail to protect me. A mirror sits there passively, ignores any mistaken
paranoia that I may occasionally get, does nothing at all until and
unless an attack happens, and then sends the bad energy directly back to
the exactly deserving person or group in exactly the proper amount and
kind. A mirror is perfect justice.
A grounding shield is perfect mercy, taking bad energy and
dissipating it harmlessly. I think I already said this but I recently
talked one of my students into using a grounding shield where she would
have been perfectly entitled to use a mirror. The situation is an
ongoing battle between my students lover and his former wife. While the
ex-wife did an entirely unjustifiable attack, and would fully deserve to
have it returned full force, all this would really accomplish would be
to perpetuate the craziness, hostility and tension in the situation -
and both the couples innocent children and my student are being hurt.
Better for all concerned to ignore justice and drain as much of the
tension as possible, to make room for the healing that all of them need.
A grounding shield is perfect mercy.
But banes and bindings, while they may give short term protection,
risk your own karma, are susceptible to mistake, and may, if
misdirected, even fail of their well-intended purpose. Sure youre
entitled to self-protection. This is just a lousy way to go about it. I
guess my kind of Warrior is Athena, the wise defender.

You have a gentle way. For myself, I love Minerva who I feel is a Being unto
Herself. The concept of the Grounding Shield is clear to me...would you care
to share the practice with me. Justice has little interest for me. That
takes care of itself in the process of time. We are all amply repayed for our
varies deeds simply by wearing this body of ours. Healing is far more to the
point. The word Justice makes me cringe a bit, though long ago I came to
peace with Justice. One of my more angry prayers is May he/she have perfect
Jusice, NOW! Instant karma, NOW...and I always add, and so may it be with me.
I remember telling this to a New Age teacher a few years ago. He turned pale
and promised me auto accidents, fire, theft and robbery if I did that. Well,
I am still bopping along with my share in the chancier aspects of life
affirming perfect Justice for my self and every now and then in those very
rare (!) moments of anger instant Karma for me and whoever. I love the idea
of a shield that will ground and disperse any nasties send grovelling in my
direction. Let Healing Be the Way! Tender bliss and explosive ecstacy be
yours as the days pass softly!

Its visualization either way. For the grounding shield, it is velvety,
absorbtive black (Oops, I should say that MINE is - you may alter this to
whatever will convince your Younger Self). Every so often along its length,
for me every 2-3 yards, there is a post somewhat like a fince post that
extends deep into the ground and is conductive like a lightening rod. Trust
mother Earth to filter any kind of energy back into simple, pure,
undifferentiated energy and recycle it to wherever it is most needed. So the
shield catches incoming energy and channels it down through the purifying
rocks. I dont know exactly how to describe physically how the shield can be
semi-permeable, allowing in the well-wishes of your friends, but, as semi
permeable membranes exist in Nature, helping each cell maintain its water/salt
balance, so can this shield. Can you conceive of a substance both velvet and
mesh? Thats how it is with me.
On the justice end of the spectrum, my own Younger Self is a bit of a
literalist. A flat mirror will not work for me, since the angle of incidence
is complementary to the angle of reflection, which means that bad energy is
actually diverted from the sender and bounced onto innocent parties. My mirror
looks like a waffle, and is optically designed to send stuff back exactly
where it came from. Its also semi-permeable, and that is even harder to
explain. I guess Younger Self is not altogether consistent.
On the issue of choosing between the two modes. Justice is a tautology. It
will do no better - and no worse - than getting you back to where you began.
It protects and maintains, but does not allow for growth. Perhaps youve read
Diana Paxons wonderful book "Red Mare, White Stallion." At the beginning, the
women of the tribe have a ritual opportunity to make a wish for the coming
year. But the heroine does something even better. When her turn comes, she
tells the Goddess "Mother, You choose." Had she chosen, she could not possibly
have received anything more than she was capable of imagining. Taking the risk
of not choosing was opening herself to surprise and transformation.
Reading that was a mind-blow for me. Since then, I have tried to take
Dianas dare as much as possible, and not limit myself to tautology. I dont
do it all the time, but I stretch toward it. The mirror/shield question
resonates with that for me.
Minerva/Athena wears a shield and helmet, and carries a spear. My Sister
is a Warrior, but always in defense of the community and always for justice.
Never for greed or domination. It is worthy to protect what you have, and
worthy to reach beyond.

I've been away since last weekend and I managed to miss the biggest news week for pagans and witches in a long time.
While I was in Sussex out and about enjoying some glorious autumn weather, celebrating the equinox and not paying much attention to the news, the story broke that American Republican Senate candidate for Delaware, Christine O'Donnell, claimed to have dabbled in witchcraft.
Apparently she said: "One of my first dates with a witch was on a Satanic altar. We went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar."
When asked further about this, she had replied: "How many of you didn't hang out with questionable folks in high school?"
The comments, understandably, angered witches, wiccans and pagans. Wiccans and most modern witches are not Satanists, they are nature worshippers and honour the pagan gods and goddesses of the Earth and the heavens. They do not worship Satan, who is the devil in Christian mythology. They also don't like to be called "questionable".
However, this is old news for a far better reason than the fact that I was a few days late writing about it, as Christine O'Donnell's original comment was made about a decade ago.
Nevertheless, this has prompted considerable debate in the press and on the internet and some of the comments made are very interesting. So, just in case you have missed the news like me, here are some links so you can read the reports yourself.
(Oh and if you were wondering how I was blogging while I was away, I'd better confess that I wrote most of them before I went. My main access to the internet for the past few days has been a rather slow connection on my mobile phone.)

Daylight Atheism, in discussing Sam Harris's controversial but insightful book, The Moral Landscape, argues we can step over the "is-ought" problem and I agree. Here's the money quote: It's true that you can't take any catalogue of facts about human nature, however comprehensive, and from them distill the conclusion: "We ought to value human flourishing.
" But for the same reason, it's also true that you can't start with any catalogue of facts about human history or the world, however comprehensive, and from them distill the conclusion: "We ought to use the scientific method to study reality." Does this cast doubt on the legitimacy of science as a human endeavor?
More importantly, does it imply that there exist other ways of knowing that are just as valid? No system of thought can be derived out of thin air. They all have to be based on axioms that can, in principle, be rejected. But if that's a strike against objective morality, it's also a strike against philosophy, science, mathematics, and every other branch of human inquiry as well...
And what to do with those stubborn philosophical skeptics, who insist to their last breath that we can't prove that human well-being should be valued above other qualities? Let them be. If our approach to morality is correct, its superiority will be borne out in practice and people will eventually be persuaded to come along for the ride, just as theists switched from faith healing to antibiotics when they saw how much more effective the latter was.

There are several ways you can pay respects to the dead, especially if you're not physically close to their tomb. One way is to simply call upon a God or Goddess that are guardians of the next world: Anubis, Osiris, Hades, Kali, Shiva, Hella, Hathor, Hecate, or even an angel like Gabriel or Azrael. Burn some Frankincense and Arabic Gum, and light a black candle. Call upon the deity and ask them that they guard the deceased into the afterlife and guard their soul.
Another way is to get a handful of graveyard dirt, a photo of the deceased, frankincense, chamomile, copal, jasmine, and chervil (British myrrh). Light a couple of black candles. In a bowl, place the photo in first. Gaze at the photo; remember the deceased and of their journey in this life. Then, take the handful of graveyard dirt and sprinkle it over the photo. Finally, add the remaining herbs over the dirt. These herbs will help the deceased move on and be at peace. It is best to place these remains over the grave of the deceased, but since you can't, you may bury it in a special spot somewhere.
Paying respects during meditation or ritual can also be done. By simply praying to your deity or to one of the deities mentioned above, you can pay respects by placing photos or personal items of the deceased near you or on your altar.

In order to Transform...Grow...and Learn we must sometimes face those things we'd much rather sweep under the proverbial rug. I also feel strongly in sharing our stories because it is within these stories we can connect, heal and know we are not alone.
As of late, my life has been in turmoil and chaos. Two things I strive to not allow entrance into my life. Life, on the other hand, will make it's presence known if there are things we choose to deny, hide or push away what we fear or are too painful to confront. It is only until we seek to heal those wounds or seek for those answers, our lives will not only remain the same but it will also remain in a state of chaos.
I prefer to live Happy! How about you?
It has been hard to go through the day without wanting to climb in bed and go back to sleep. To be fully alone. Not wanting a single person around!
It is even hard to want to meditate, perform Reiki self-healing or even finish my crystal classes (I'm SO close to finishing) all the while knowing these are the things I need the most to move forward and to stay healthy.
Eating is also a chore. All the everyday things we do become exaggerated and move in slow motion...
And it hurts...
The Heart and Spirit Hurt...
In desperate need of guidance, I looked to my Earth Magic Oracle Deck. At first I only pulled one card to work with for the day but after what the card revealed, I decided to sit and do a reading.

The power is available to you, the force of Life itself, is neutral. It is neither good or bad. It just is. I feel this card invoked in me the understanding that no matter what, we only have control over ourselves. Through our own Spirituality can we change and grow.
For those who make the choice NOT to utilize the power they have within themselves, no matter how much your heart breaks. It is completely up the individual to walk their own path. And as a mother, I need to learn to allow that to unfold however it may.
I have faced this lesson time and again and although logically I know this, sometimes the heart gets in the way and makes it hard to accept that some things just are. When you love someone so much it hurts (as in your children) it is only then you realize it's time to detach with love. At least that is what they say and what I have attempted to try and do...One of my life's most difficult lessons.
BUT HOW?
We have loved our children from the moment we find out we are pregnant until our last breath and we dream of giving them a wonderful life and the tools so they, themselves can prosper and grow. What happens when your dreams and reality hit? Life!
One of the ways to harness your own power can be through ritual and mindful meditation. Getting as close to Spirit as you can in whatever way works for you. It is having Faith that the Universe and our Creator will answer our prayers.

Truth be told, I have submerged my life in a lot of shame and guilt. Shame for some of the choices I have made that in turn caused damage to the two people I love more than anything else...My Children! Parenting through shame and guilt does not make a very pretty picture.
Guilt for allowing people and situations to dictate my life and not leaving sooner. Submerged in anger at myself for not being there emotionally at the times I was needed. This is YEARS in the making and sifting through all the layers has been a slow and painstaking process.
Submerged in deep seated anger at my ex for tearing apart my children and the naive person I was allowing it to happen all the while thinking...hoping and praying that tomorrow will get better!
Submerged in self-hate for years and years. Living with the *if only's*, wishing that I can could start over...
But I can and I did! Through the Grace of the Divine Source, I stumbled my way through the mess and out to the other side unscathed...Well, somewhat!.
Transformed and New!
In today's reading though I find that I am still submerged in those same feelings of shame and guilt. Maybe not as intense but they still linger and it is up to me only to confront, move through and heal.

My feelings do not matter. It is my daughter's feelings and happiness that matter and although I am supportive of her, my own fears and thoughts get in the way. For my daughter's happiness to grow, she needs her Mom there 100%...Present and Accounted For!
In regards to my son, this is a true wake-up call for me to finally learn Detachment With Love...As hard and heart-breaking at times it will be, the only way to my own piece of mind is to find resolution within myself to Love him as much as I do but to stop enabling him and allow him to walk his own path, however painful it may be.
No matter how painful the process is for me! It's time for me to Live too!

I foster with my local Humane Society. I find it rewarding! We are currently trying to raise money to build a shelter by selling small paw print tags, like the March of Dimes does, for a 1. I sent invites to friends hoping they can help out. I've had many friends accepting the invite. Which is wonderful! However several friends declined and one even sent me a nasty little message about it being a waste of money and resources and the animals that are strays should be euthanized. I was heart broken at such a comment! I couldn't believe that and asked for an explanation. I was then entered into a debate about animals having emotions and souls! Apparently some people believe animals don't have feelings and when they die they just die because they don't have souls. I've had several pets, not being a spring chicken anymore, in my life time. They all had their own personalities and personal quirks, many of them loved something others disliked! They showed every emotion, from happy to jealousy, that humans have! I've seen a mother give birth to a litter and mourn for the one who didn't make it, I've seen a cat sit for days and figure out child locks on a cabinet door where his treats were stored! I've seen animals that know how to communicate when they wanted something. To think that humans are the only animal with the ability to reason, or feel emotion, is the most self centered, egotistical rubbish I have ever heard! Animals feel a lot more than humans can, they mourn the loss of a human when no one else does. My belief is that animals of all kinds are a creation of the Goddess and God and are a creation of love! Since I believe in reincarnation I also hold a personal belief that our souls can sometimes be reborn as animals either as a reward or to learn a lesson. They deserve the same love and respect as humans! They could be an ancestor sent to watch over us. Once again, I must start a review with a confession. This is a book about initiates of the
Alexandrian Tradition of Wicca, written by an initiate of that tradition. I share an initiation into that tradition, so I was biased before I even opened the cover. Add to that the fact that, while we are not friends in a social sense, I have met Jimahl at a meet-and-greet, and we are on a couple of mailing lists together.
I would like to pretend that I was capable of being completely fair, but I went into this book with certain expectations, most of which were met (for good or bad). I was envious of those Alexandrians Jimahl selected to interview (while fully understanding the reasoning). I was grateful for the fact that individuals who are, for the most part, not well-known outside the Craft community, and who range from First Degree initiates through Third Degree High Priests and High Priestesses, from locales as far-flung as Wales, Poland, Canada, the United States, and Australia got a chance to show how their Alexandrian training has affected their lives.
Over the years, there have been numerous autobiographies and biographies devoted to the publicly known members of the Craft, but very few which have dealt with the people who make up the vast majority of any religious system the rank and file who quietly live their life and do their best to fit in with society. This has been a glaring lack which has needed to be addressed for a long time. Jimahl has stepped in and started the process with this book. The community at large, and the Craft community in particular have a need for more knowledge of those who work behind the scenes with no fanfare so that they can aspire to become the best they can.
These individuals have come from a variety of backgrounds. Some had personal contact
with Alex Sanders and some did not. Some have been involved for decades, some for a relatively short time. All have had experiences which they have been willing to share with the larger world, and for that we owe them (and Jimahl) a huge round of thanks.
The stories contained in this book are not about earth-shattering events, nor are they all the same. Each individual comes to the Craft, and grows in the Craft in a unique way. Everyone has a special contribution to make, which we are often the last to recognize due to lack of perspective.
The stories collected within these covers are inspiring because of their commonalities. The individuals, in many cases, reveal their own failings and misconceptions and reveal how they have grown beyond what they started with. They allow the reader to realize that the only limits they will face are self-imposed. And, by the same token, while others (including divinity) may offer help and support along the way, it is up to the individual to overcome those limits.
This is NOT a book about magick. It is a book of true stories by those who have experienced something which has altered their perceptions of religion. As such, it may speak to anyone, of any path and help to open their minds to other possibilities. In my opinion, it succeeds admirably in presenting a varied understanding of how initiates of the Alexandrian system see themselves, the Tradition, and its founder. No two of the are identical, yet they all contribute to a balanced view.

Tonight I completed my second month with Maat. I had to do the ritual naked since I could not find my robe. In fact, I felt confused all night so it took some time just to gather the things I needed and bathe. I purposely went slow to keep my focus. I was told that we are in the midst of a mercury retrograde so I guess, confusion can occur and exhibiting patience should be exercised. I also tried to meditate longer than usual, desperately, but to no avail.
I tried something a little different tonight, especially since my brain was not as focused as usual. I took advantage of the fact. I went thru the visualizations and then let the brain-generated image go, especially by my left brain.
When I switched she became more life-full and I could feel her presence like she was standing to me real close, instead of at the distance I usually visualize her. The colors of her tunic became richer and deeper and I sensed a type of steady state vibration from her. Her lotus wand also seem to vibrate steadily and had an ethereal glow. Her ankh generated warmth yet solid. although i never grasped the ankh, warmth and solidity is the energy that I felt emanating from the object. The jewelry she was wearing seemed like they made sounds, like wind chimes in 20 MPH winds. The feather she blessed me with became part of my body and at one instant, I felt like I was the feather, emanating a slow vibration and glowing ethereally. The ankh also sank into my body, first with fluidity, absorption, and then with solidity.
After I finished, I did the LBRP, as called for, but this time, I actually felt the archangels. almost ominous creatures, that seem to fill almost the whole entirety of my temple space, except for Gabriel. I have difficulties sensing Gabriel.
I felt an overall strengthing and relaxation from the ritual and I felt I found a better way to communicate with Maat.

have felt a bit raw and not quite capable of handling things. I've become a little more critical of my world than I would like. So, I've pulled out my Yellow Cowslip Orchid flower essence to help me release these icky feelings. (Beech from the Bach line is another option). On the way home from my long drive Monday evening, I was told to give blessings to those things I've been critical and irritable about. As I blessed, I cried and felt a good kind of tenderness.
BLESSING MAGIC:
Blessings to the parents at the swimming hole who loudly repeat their child's name again and again and again and again and again.
Blessings to the motorcycle rider who zipped past me without a helmet.
Blessings to my little home, which is bursting at the seams and totally overwhelms me.
Blessings to my body, which is trying so hard and does such a good job at telling me when I cross over to eating not the right foods.
Blessings to my beautiful self which is trying so hard juggling so much and has added self-care to the mix, and just doesn't know how to do it all.
Blessings to my aching tender heart, giving up another layer of pain. Sometimes this isn't easy, even when I know the results are breathtaking. Becoming Me (The fish that I've been eating all week has been slowly releasing some held in pain, and causing me to feel a little heart achey all day long.
Blessings to my dear, precious husband who gives and gives during his time off while I have a chance to regroup or work on my business, and continues to give even when his grumpiness tells me he needs a break.
Blessings to my mother, who because she is my mother, never seems to do the right thing.
Blessings to the flies who love my garbage. (wait I take that back, I'm still giving the finger to the flies)
Blessings to my gratitude/ positive strokes book which has been ignored for two weeks and I feel is yelling at me.
Blessings to the small business owners who have a marketing style which grate on my nerves.
MEM:
I remember the first time I 'met' Cricket on MEM. The exotic writer living in Key West with the beautiful daughters. I was instantly attracted and fascinated and I wanted to get to know her. Yesterday, I got to spend the entire day with her and it was wonderful. Our girls played beautifully for almost 7 hours straight. I can't wait to see her again.
While driving home, I got to see some amazing lightening. I loved it. I love the thrill and bit of fear from a thunderstorm. Plus, there wasn't any rain while I was driving so it was easy to drive.
