Just as is true the many faiths, there exist a number of denominations within Judaism. They are also known as branches or sects. One will realize that each of them has certain beliefs unique to them. The difference that they have stems from how they choose to interpret the scripture rather than from any theological distinction. One of the kinds that is there belongs to the orthodox Jews. They are the ones who believe that God gave Moses the Torah at Mount Sinai. The number of Mitzvoth they believe as being six hundred and thirteen. This is what actually brings them together. The modern members are known for their respect for the religion. And unlike the Ultra- orthodox, they are more willing to integrate with the modern society.
There are also the conservatives whose belief is that the Torah was given to man by God. It is man who later on added some human components to it. It is their belief that the law should take up some predominant aspects in the society while remaining true to the values of the religion.
The others are known as the reformist Jews. These are those who believe that the Torah was written by man. It is only a combination of what various people wrote over time. They are much against the binding nature of laws. There are however certain aspects of Jewish religion that is practiced by its members.
The re-constructionists on the other hand believe that the religion is evolving as a result of civilization. They can be said to be more liberal than the reformists. They do not think that the Jewish people were chosen by God. They value the religion itself not because it is law from God, but because of it being a cultural remnant.
There are also the ones known as humanistic. This is a sect introduced in 1963 by Sherwin T. Wine in Detroit. They insist on living a lifestyle that is entirely dependent of any supernatural authority. They enjoy a human- centered philosophy integrating it with the celebration of the culture while adhering to a number of humanistic values.
Converting into this religion is something that is very common. A person interested in this should however realize that the requirements are privy to the denomination that one is interested in. As soon as a person is aware of the choice that he or she would like to make, the right channel should be established and followed to attain this goal.
Among the most common requirements is for the male converts to be circumcised. One may also be required to make a sacrifice. This is something that can however be deferred if a temple is not available. Once it has been built then one can go ahead and give the offering. Being a participant in the Talmud is another thing an individual is required to be part and parcel of in the quest to convert to Judaism. Once a person meets all the necessary requirements, a certificate is normally issued.
