Psychic

Psychic
A psychic, also called sensitive is a person who professes an ability to perceive information hidden from the normal senses through extrasensory perception, or is said by others to have such abilities. It is also used to describe theatrical performers who use techniques such as prestidigitation and cold reading to produce the appearance of such abilities.

It can also denote an ability of the mind to influence the world physically and to the telekinetic powers professed by those such as Uri Geller. Psychics appear regularly in fiction and science fiction, such as the The Dead Zone by Stephen King, or Jean Grey from the Marvel comic book universe. A large industry exists whereby psychics provide advice and counsel to clients.

Some famous contemporary psychics include Miss Cleo, and John Edward. Critics attribute psychic powers to intentional trickery or self-delusion. In 1988 the U.S. National Academy of Sciences gave a report on the subject that concluded there is "no scientific justification from research conducted over a period of 130 years for the existence of parapsychological phenomena.

" In a 1990 survey of members of that organization, 4% of respondents agreed that extrasensory perception had been scientifically demonstrated, or that it happened sometimes. Asked about research in the field, 22% would discourage it, 63% would allow but not encourage it, and 10% would encourage it. The word psychic is derived from the Greek word psychikos ("of the mind" or "mental") and refers in part to the human mind or psyche (ex.

"psychic turmoil"
). French astronomer and spiritualist Camille Flammarion is credited as having first used the word psychic, while it was later introduced to the English language by Edward William Cox in the 1870s. Early seers and prophets Elaborate systems of divination and fortune-telling date back to ancient times.

Perhaps the most widely-known system of early civilization fortune-telling was astrology, where practitioners believed the relative positions of celestial bodies could lend insight into people's lives and even predict their future circumstances. Some fortune-tellers were said to be able to make predictions without the use of these elaborate systems (or in conjunction with them), through some sort of direct apprehension or vision of the future.

These people were known as seers or prophets, and in later times as clairvoyants and psychics. Seers formed a functionary role in early civilization, often serving as advisors, priests, and judges.[10] A number of examples are included in biblical accounts. The book of 1 Samuel (Chapter 9) illustrates one such functionary task when Samuel is asked to locate the donkeys of the future king Saul.

[11] The role of prophet appeared perennially in ancient cultures. In Egypt, the priests of Ra at Memphis acted as seers. In ancient Assyria seers were referred to as nabu, meaning "to call" or "announce". The Delphic Oracle is one of the earliest stories in classical antiquity of prophetic abilities.

The Pythia, the priestess presiding over the Oracle of Apollo at Delphi, was believed to be able to deliver prophecies inspired by Apollo during rituals beginning in the 8th century BC.[12] It is often said that the Pythia delivered oracles in a frenzied state induced by vapors rising from the ground, and that she spoke gibberish, believed to be the voice of Apollo, which priests reshaped into the enigmatic prophecies preserved in Greek literature.

Other scholars believe records from the time indicate that the Pythia spoke intelligibly, and gave prophecies in her own voice. The Pythia was a position served by a succession of women probably selected from amongst a guild of priestesses of the temple. The last recorded response was given in 393 AD, when the emperor Theodosius I ordered pagan temples to cease operation.

Recent geological investigations raise the possibility that ethylene gas caused the Pythia's state of inspiration. One of the most enduring historical references to what some consider to be psychic ability is the prophecies of Michel de Nostredame (1503 - 1566), often Latinized to Nostradamus, published during the French Renaissance period.

Nostradamus was a French apothecary and seer who wrote collections of prophecies that have since become famous worldwide and have rarely been out of print since his death. He is best known for his book Les Propheties, the first edition of which appeared in 1555. Taken together, his written works are known to have contained at least 6,338 quatrains or prophecies, as well as at least eleven annual calendars.

Most of the quatrains deal with disasters, such as plagues, earthquakes, wars, floods, invasions, murders, droughts, and battles - all undated. Nostradamus is a controversial figure. His many enthusiasts, as well as the popular press, credit him with predicting numerous major world events. Interest in his work is still considerable, especially in the media and in popular culture.

By contrast, most academic scholars maintain that the associations made between world events and Nostradamus' quatrains are largely the result of misinterpretations or mistranslations (sometimes deliberate) or else are so tenuous as to render them useless as evidence of any genuine predictive power.

In addition to the belief that some historical figures were endowed with a predisposition to psychic experiences, some psychic abilities were thought to be available to everyone on occasion. For example, the belief in prophetic dreams was common and persistent in many ancient cultures. Nineteenth century progression Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) was a psychic of the 20th century and made many highly publicized predictions.

In the mid-nineteenth century, Modern Spiritualism became prominent in the United States and the United Kingdom. The movement's distinguishing feature was the belief that the spirits of the dead could be contacted by mediums to lend insight to the living. The movement was fueled in part by anecdotes of psychic powers.

One such person believed to have extraordinary abilities was Daniel Dunglas Home, who gained notoriety during the Victorian period for his reported ability to levitate to a variety of heights and speak to the dead. As the Spiritualist movement grew other comparable groups arose, including the Theosophical Society, which was co-founded in 1875 by Helena Blavatsky (1831-1891).

Theosophy coupled spiritualist elements with Eastern mysticism and was influential in the early 20th century, later influencing the New Age movement during the 1970s. Blavatsky herself claimed numerous psychic powers. Popular culture Belief in psychic abilities In a survey, reported in 1990, of members of the National Academy of Sciences, only 2% of respondents thought that extrasensory perception had been scientifically demonstrated, with another 2% thinking that the phenomena happened sometimes.

Asked about research in the field, 22% thought that it should be discouraged, 63% that it should be allowed but not encouraged, and 10% that it should be encouraged; neuroscientists were the most hostile to parapsychology of all the specialties. A survey of the beliefs of the general United States population regarding paranormal topics was conducted by The Gallup Organization in 2005.

[24] The survey found that 41 percent of those polled believed in extrasensory perception and 26 percent believed in clairvoyance. 31 percent of those surveyed indicated that they believe in telepathy or psychic communication.

Catholics Evangelicals And Philosophy

Catholics Evangelicals And Philosophy
One of the most attractive things about the Roman Catholic Church is its openness to reason and its long-standing resistance to anti-intellectualism, obscurantism, relativism and shallow thinking. The Enlightenment movement tried to portray itself as the voice of reason over against the superstition and ignorance of Christianity, but the Church was battling sophists and irrational mystics long before anybody ever thought of the Enlightenment and now continues to champion reason as Enlightenment-inspired scientism spirals down into nihilistic solipsism.

Here is an encouraging little note from Rome about adjustments to the curriculum for priestly formation. Evangelical colleges, seminaries and universities should take note.

"With the human ability to think under fire from relativism, priests and theologians need to study more philosophy, the Vatican says.This was one of the main points of the "Decree on the Reform of Ecclesiastical Studies of Philosophy," which Benedict XVI approved Jan. 28 (the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas), and Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski, prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, presented Tuesday.

The cardinal explained that the Church is always adapting to respond to the needs of changing historical-cultural circumstances, and that many ecclesial institutions today are lacking in philosophical formation.

This absence is particularly noteworthy at a time "in which reason itself is menaced by utilitarianism, skepticism, relativism and distrust of reason's ability to know the truth regarding the fundamental problems of life," he reflected.

New guidelines are in accordance with Pope John Paul II's "Fides et Ratio," the cardinal added, which notes that "theology has always had and continues to have need of a philosophical contribution."

Cardinal Grocholewski said the Church intends to recover metaphysics, namely a philosophy that will again pose the most profound questions of the human being.

The Vatican official stressed that technology and science cannot "satiate man's thirst in regard to the ultimate questions: What does happiness consist of? Who am I? Is the world the fruit of chance? What is my destiny? etc. Today, more than ever, the sciences are in need of wisdom."

He said that the "original vocation" of philosophy needs to be recovered: "the search for truth and its sapiential and metaphysical dimension."

The cardinal also emphasized the importance of logic, calling it a discipline that structures reason and that has disappeared because of the present crisis of Christian culture.

The rector of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), Dominican Father Charles Morerod, added that there is no contradiction between philosophy and faith.

"Christianity presupposes a harmony between God and human reason," he said.

"The importance of philosophy is linked directly with the human desire to know the truth and to organize it," the rector explained. "Experience shows that knowledge of philosophy helps us to better organize, in cooperation with other disciplines, the study of any science."

"Metaphysics seeks to know the whole of reality - culminating in knowledge of the First Cause of everything - and to show the mutual relationship between the different fields of learning, avoiding any closing in on themselves of the individual sciences," he added.

Ecclesiastical philosophy degrees will thus increase to 180 credits, going from two-year programs to three-year. There will also be more stringent requirements for professors, with greater demands for doctors in philosophy, preferably with degrees earned from an ecclesiastical institution. Theology degree programs will not be longer, but will have more philosophy credits during the first years."

A couple of statements in particular stood out to me as important. First, "With the human ability to think under fire from relativism, priests and theologians need to study more philosophy." This statement, it seems to me, goes deep down toward the heart of our cultural crisis. The problems with relativism go far beyond ethics to matters of epistemology, logic and truth.

A second statement, from Cardinal Grocholewski, that stood out was: "the 'original vocation' of philosophy needs to be recovered: 'the search for truth and its sapiential and metaphysical dimension.'" Our culture is in dire need of philosophy, but most of the philosophy done in universities has made itself irrelevant and uninteresting because it has abandoned its "big picture" search for truth about reality and how the different aspects of will, passions, and intellect relate to each other. Theology could pursue this task but it is almost entirely marginalized. Philosophy is desperately needed, but is apparently not up to the task. This leads me to think that the most important philosophy in the decades ahead will be done outside the secularized universities of the West.

Evangelicals need to recover philosophy if they are to bear a witness to Christianity as a worldview with culture-renewing power and inspirational vision. The Roman Catholic Church is resisting the spirit of age. Why can't we?

A Very Happy Time

A Very Happy Time
**Warning: This is one of those loong posts, you know? ;) **

And soooo, you guys who know me over one year knows that I broke up with my ex, and that last year was the first time Lucas spent his January vacations with his dad, seven hours away from me. And you guys remember well how bad it was for me, who has never been away from my son for a single day. Oh well, lessons learned.

To shorten a very long story, Lucas decided by himself that he wouldn't go this vacations. He couldn't explain why, just didn't want to go, and decided spending January at home. Maybe the fact that in the first vacations, once he was put in a cab late night to meet his dad in the neighbour town, 25 minutes away from where he was had something to do with it, although apparently, it didn't leave any "traumas" in his mind and heart. I talked to him about how important it was for his dad and family to have him during this period of time, that they love and miss him, but he was firm in his decision, and I thought it would be wiser not to force him, I wouldn't force him to anyway. I have to confess that I got happy to have him at home, with mixed feelings of relieve and guilty, as if I haven't done enough to make him change his mind. At the same time, I know I did what I could as naturally as possible, and that he's getting old enough to start making his own decisions, feeling safe that his mom is always supporting him when he needs it.

Anywho... We spent New Year Eve in Araruama, at my cousin's beach house, where I've been last year. It was Lucas' first time there, and he simply adored the place. The famous, huge lagoon is breath-taking for adults, imagine for a little boy!

We walked along it several times, and he "fished" many shells on the way (still in the plastic bag to be washed and place in his altar).

He had a blast in the house pool, all proud that I didn't need to hold his hand, just watching by the edge. It was like a little fish, it was hard to convince him to get out of it, to eat or sleep, lol!

.. And of course I had fun too! ;)

The Reveillon night was beautiful, the lagoon beach was crowded but comfortable to be at, not that huge mass like Copacabana's. Lucas enjoyed his first fires!

Here, he's in front of candles lit in the sand for Yemanja, something very traditional at this special night:

Like many others, this man threw flowers on the lagoon for Yemanja, and prayed for a long time after each flower was ont the water... I wonder what he wished, and hope he gets it, if "harm none"...:

At midnight, I wet my fingers on the lagoon, and made a pentagram on his forehead and on mine, asking for protectrion along the new year, and thanking the old one that was leaving us. Then I hugged and kissed my little witch:

As well as grandma, ;)

Lucas made good friends in Araruama, like Nina:

And Julieta:

And the best for him: he went, also for the first time, to an amusement park! One of those itinerant parks was in town, and obviously, I had to take the chance! He had so much fun! Ghost train, bumping cars, rockets, trampolines... He had a bit of everyhting, and it was such a delight to watch him laughing and having so much fun. It's wonderful to see that light in his eyes and around him with such something so simple and irresistible. It was like seeing myself in him when I was his age.

Summoning it up, it was perfect! We spent some wonderful days with awesome friends, and got back home ready for 2011. I hope you all have a great new year as well, with batteries recharged for the new challenges that always come. I have a little list of resolutions that I intend to take to term this year... But this is for another post! ;)

The Oneness Blessing And The Power

The Oneness Blessing And The Power Of Foresight And Prophecy
Did you hear the message? Did you receive it in your heart? Did the message touch your soul with the energy of unconditional love and enlightenment? If so, the Oneness Blessing also known as the Holy Spirit is flowing peace, order, wealth, success, empowerment, health, wellness, knowledge, wisdom, and good fortune into your life. What message? The message you attracted into your life today. The message of foresight and prophecy designed to transform your reality for success, peace, joy, and happiness. Did you get the message or did you resist it?

Everyday of our lives, Source Energy-the Creator of ALL that is (God as some knows this power)-is speaking to us and in some cases this great power is speaking through us if we allow it. The message is always to inspire us to become more and create more life. Deep within our soul, it is the greatest desire of every human being to become more and to create more life. Creating more life gives us joy. We all want to be vessels of creativity and we want to do it successfully.

Some of us get so busy throughout the day that we can not hear the message in our hearts and this is why spiritual guidance from the Lightworkers in our society is so important. Lightworkers are fully open to receiving and discerning these messages and sharing them with those who are willing to hear. There is joy in this two-way experience because the Lightworker and the listener or receiver are both in the Presence or the present moment.

And just what are these messages? These messages are foresight and prophecy significant to the times. These messages of foresight and prophecy provide insight to what is happening in our day and time and how it affects co-creators. These messages also give us insight to how the Creative Spirit is moving.

This is a gift from the Oneness Blessing. The Oneness Blessing has provided these messages to co-creators so that as we are equipped with Divine wisdom and knowledge as we co-create our reality. These messages are insight because these messages give view to what is happening in the Absolute Reality. With this knowledge we are prepared co-creators rather than ill-informed victims of circumstance.

Furthermore, these messages from the Oneness Blessing are messages which emit the power of foresight and prophecy. The power of foresight and prophecy makes it possible for us to make powerful intentions as we segment and go throughout our day. For example, if the power of foresight revealed to you through a Lightworker (one who serves as messenger for light and wisdom) or through your own Living Mind that "now is the time to focus your gifts and talents on empowering women," then you are equipped with Divine guidance and wisdom. With this Divine guidance and wisdom, you can set your intentions for empowering women. You know what to focus on. You know where you should align your thoughts, visualizations, and prayers.

The power of foresight and prophecy removes the ego out of the driver's seat because it renders fear powerless. Most of our fears are associated with the fear of the unknown. The power of foresight and prophecy makes the unknown known to us. Faith grows because we have wisdom and knowledge. And it is with this wisdom and knowledge given by the Oneness Blessing that we become more dynamic and more powerful co-creators.

Carmellita Brown, the Creative Director for Blue Lotus Living, invites you to experience a message of foresight and prophecy. To address many people's concerns about the perceived economic crisis, as a Lightworker, Carmellita has channeled a powerful message. Get spiritual insight that will set you on the path of prosperity instantly, visit The Oracle Within - The Scepter of Prosperity.

Powders For Sneaky Spells And More

Powders For Sneaky Spells And More
Magical powders consist of various herbs ground up VERY fine, and blended with either cornstarch or talcum powder. (Dr. E. Products uses cornstarch for their powder base because of the recently revealed carcinogenic qualities of talcum.) They are a great way to deploy magical tricks on people without them knowing, and are one of the most powerful but under-utilized methods in the hoodoo toolbox.

The Infamous "Hot Foot Powder"

One of the most infamous powder recipes in hoodoo is Hot Foot Powder. This blend of hot spices and sulfur is used to make someone get away from you. It's not a curse, per se, but it effectively gets someone to leave - no harm intended or manifested - by lighting a fire of motivation under their feet to move on.

Hot Foot Powder is typically laid in a person's tracks where they'll walk over it and be "poisoned through the feet" (afflicted with magic through the soles of the feet). The trick with having it undetected is to mix it with local dirt to mask its color. Hot Foot Powder (or any powder, really) can be sprinkled in a line across someone's doorstep, at the foot of their driver's-side door to their car, across a walkway leading up to their home, or even a pinch in the footwell of their car or under their desk at work. You can also put a pinch in their shoes if they are the type that leaves their shoes laying around or outside their home, or you can even dust their door knobs to their homes so that they get the powder physically on them for maximum effect.

Love Me NOW! Spell Using Powders

This spell works best if you have regular communication with someone and already have a friendship in place. Write a letter by hand to your intended target. Turn the letter over and sprinkle some Love Me NOW! Powder on the back of it. Run your four fingers over the powder in a wavy pattern to dress the back of the letter. Shake off the excess then flick the paper with your index finger to get the remaining powder to fly off. Fold up the letter with the dressed side on the outside so your target will touch the dressed paper when he opens the letter. Seal the envelope with a dab of your own urine or sexual fluids. Mail the letter to your target and when he opens it, he will be affected by the powder and your personal concerns and start looking at you with loving eyes.

Neutralizing Evil With Powders

If you find some kind of evil spell left on your doorstep, or you see that someone has tried to lay a line of powder for you to cross over, do not step on it. Instead, sprinkle some Evil BEGONE! Powder or Fear Not to Walk Over Evil Powder over that line while praying for the trick to be unraveled by the just and watchful eye of God. Sweep the mess away and follow it up with a Chinese Floor Wash to cleanse away the remaining mess.

How to Sprinkle Powders

Powders are typically sprinkled from your own hand while calling out the intended target by name. It is important to call them by name, for it is the only person that the trick will affect. Anyone else who walks over the powder or touches it will not be affected. Also remember to blend the powder with local dirt to mask its color. Powders are typically sprinkled while walking backward in an odd number of steps while praying for the intended magical effect.

Ghost And The Power Of Hopelessness

Ghost And The Power Of Hopelessness
I dreamt.

There was a contest of some sort. I was vaguely aware of it.

The first one "chosen" by the rabbis approached me and was rejected. The second one "chosen" by the rabbis approached me and was rejected. The rabbis were stymied.

In the meantime, while all this was going on, a ghost was shackled between two posts like "the heretic" in Ben Avuyah's story, Justice Divine. The ghost was white, S-shaped with its ghosttail trailing about, and looked just like Casper, the friendly ghost.

Ghost was shackled because the rabbis refused to choose him. It was to keep Ghost from approaching me, as he wasn't "chosen" by the rabbis. But Ghost struggled mightily against the chains which bound him between the posts. Neither the posts nor the restraints budged at all in response to his mighty struggles. It seemed a hopeless endeavor. Totally and completely hopeless.

Nevertheless, even cognizant of the hopelessness of the struggle, Ghost continued to struggle with all his heart, with all his might, with all his veryness - despite that "all of it" didn't perturb his bounds at all.

The rabbis were preparing to choose another, yet again. Ghost heaved a cry that ripped through all creation and struggled, yet again, with all, despite the utter hopelessness of doing so.

Suddenly, the shackles snapped and fell from his wrists. Ghost's cry was cut off mid-stream, he was so startled by this new thing. Could this really be real?

He was free.

I woke up.

Can this be real? My bashert is a "heretic"?

Well rabbis, I don't care.

Tips To Mastering Astral Projection

Tips To Mastering Astral Projection

By Trevor Johnson

Mastering astral projection doesn't have to be

complicated. Remember that it is innate in the human nature to have the

capacity to reach the level of the subconscious and charge the etheric

bodies with energy while in a deep sleep.

With just a few steps

to follow, you can be able to take advantage of your chakras and learn

to channel them the right way. Here are powerful tips to mastering

astral projection:

- Nourish your body to achieve balance. Make

sure that you have the proper diet and enough exercise to go along with

your mental readiness. Religiously follow a proper system of dieting

that will make your physical body healthy enough, making sure that you

address imbalances. Also note that stress and tension hinders astral

projection. So make sure that you apply regular relaxation techniques

such as breathing exercises, or even just simple leisure walks.

-

Triumph over fear by gearing yourself with proper knowledge. Saturate

yourself with new learning about what you are about to go into. Since

you are dealing with yourself here, you will have to be the one who

knows best what you are doing. To enable confidence, seek proper advice

and research about the topic. Some people are held down by the fear of

the unknown. Just as with any endeavor, successful astral projection

may be hindered by the participant's fear and hesitance to open one's

self to spiritual possibilities. Be ready enough by doing proper

research and opening your mind to suggestions. Know about aids to

enable deep and speed meditation such as binaural beats and other

things.

- Practice as much as you can. Some people may be

disappointed during their first try. But did you know that no one has

ever achieved successful astral projection in just a flick of a wand.

It takes patience and further application before you can even find

yourself in the voyage you have long waited to have. Put extra effort

and don't ever give up on your first try.

Learn To Project Rune Energy

Learn To Project Rune Energy For Health And Well Being

By Ellis Peterson

Rune Lessons Projection

Up to this point in our lessons, we have been learning how to attract the energies of the Runes out of the Quantum Ocean and into our Auras.

Runes are creative, universal energies and the Runic energy you bring into your Aura, will create similar things in your physical reality. You attract Rune FA into your Aura and you will attract physical money into your life.

Attract Rune UR energies into your aura and you will attract physical health.

The Laws of Quantum Physics explain to us that ALL is energy. That there exists an infinite ocean of thinking, intelligent energy called the Quantum Ocean. In reality, it is the Mind of God who created everything, including the lesser Gods.

The God who has remained hidden down through the ages, couched in so many religions. Now with the Age of Aquarius, we can not only know who this God is, but we can know the Laws of Creation.

Runes are very powerful tools to use to co-create and recreate your life.

Since the Quantum Ocean responds to our thoughts, we can think these Runic energies into our lives. I call it the Science of Mental Radionics.

Once you have your Aura charged with the suitable runic energies, you can project these energies to others, to family or other loved ones or to the soldiers on the battle field.

Here is how you can project runic energy while in your favorite chair, which by now has become your outer Rune Realm due to all the Meditations and Breathing exercises you have been practicing while sitting in it.

Inhale the runic energies you intend to use out of the Quantum Ocean. Mentally chant the specific Rune Mantras over and over.

Hold your right hand up and imagine the rune energy flowing from your Aura to the index finger.

You can either have the person you want to project runic energy to in the room with you or you can use a photo or simply a mental image.

Take a deep breath and exhale the runic energy out from your hand and into the Aura of your partner or the person you wish to project to.

As you are projecting, chant the rune mantra three times. While exhaling, imagine the runic energies flowing through your hand into the Third Eye of your partner.

You can proceed and project this energy to each of your partner's chakras. Or simply to their Aura in general. If you intend to heal using the Rune Ur, point directly at the Chakra which is associated with the ailing organ, or directly at the organ itself.

All is Energy, your are energy, your chakras are energy, your organs are energy, your loved ones are energy, Runes are energy. Learn how to project Runes and help bring them into the 21st Century.

Ellis Peterson AKA Ragnar Storyteller is a retired math professor and electronics engineer. He has been studying astrology, runes, radionics, metaphysics and alternate healing treatments for over 30 years. He is 70+, in very good health and lives in the boonies of the Pocono mountains with his wife Lory. His writings are unique and refreshing. To see more of his writings visit his websites.

Monday Ministry Highlights Buddhism

Monday Ministry Highlights Buddhism
As in any other part of the world, Thailand and her people are very religious. From the way they take their shoes off before entering a building to the way they give food and drink offerings at spirit houses, Thai people are Buddhists - through and through. Simply put, the concept of Buddhism is to be the very best you can be in this life so that you can come back in the next life as something better. No one wants to come back as a bug or a cow, so Thai people take their religion very seriously and hope for the best.

It breaks my heart to see dedication to something that will never be achieved. I'm so saddened to walk in downtown Bangkok and see a shrine set up where people will bow and offer lotus flowers while burning incense. Other times I've seen people kneel in front of a monk and make their offering, all while the monk is chanting over them. So, so empty.

This past Wednesday I was reminded of all this when I stepped into a Buddhist temple. My (Christian) Thai co-worker's grandmother died and so we made a trip to my co-worker's province to support and encourage her during this very hard time.

Pookie is the only saved person in her entire family. Stop and let that sink in for a moment. Most of us have at least one other saved family member, but all of Pookie's family members are Buddhists. Several are even monks right now. When Pookie received the phone call saying her grandmother died, Pookie knew that lady stepped into a Christless eternity. She was so burdened for her family members that she broke out in hives all over her body.

The funeral was intersting, to say the least. When we walked into the temple, I noticed a lot of flowers and statues everywhere.

In addition to that, loud music was being played by several different men.

We also saw the crematorium where the casket and body would be later burned.

I kept thinking over and over again that if you take away the loud music, if you take away the flowers and the statues, if you take away the monks, all would be quiet and the reality is that a soul departed this world and entered eternity. No matter how much "stuff" was at a funeral, it won't make a difference.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to have the experience, if for no other reason than the fact the Lord reminded me that these dear, precious people are "lost" and in need of a Saviour. It is too late for Pookie's grandmother, but a difference can still be made in the lives of other Thai people!

California Astrology Association

California Astrology Association
CALASTROLOGY.COM stands for the California Astrology Association, which was established in 1970. The CAA offers an astonishing list of spells, psychic readings, and witchcraft to help you in your everyday life. Among the California Astrology Association's most popular sellers are love spells, money spells, and love horoscopes. The CAA also promises a money back guarantee for every product and service they offer.

This group is extraordinary. Below are just some of the spells offered, which people can purchase from Calastrology.

Andreika the Witch

Will Cast a Spell for You

* Luck Spell
* Money Spell
* Retribution Spell
* Retrieve a Lover Spell
* Triple Cast Spells
* Blazing Fast Spells
* Couple-Buster Curse
* Relationship Doctor Spells
* Gypsy Hypnotic Spells
* Extreme Spells
* Get-Even Spells
* Growing His Love Spells
* Authentic Voodoo Spells

This is just a small sampling of the spells listed, but I think you're beginning to get an idea. Beyond the generic wiccan spells, you can buy specialist help like "Andreika the Witch", the mysterious "Obeah Spell", Burton's Mega Spells, and Papa D'oc Spells. I'm pretty sure not all of these names refer to a specific person, but this gives you an idea the specificity of the spells being invoked.

WHITE MAGIC SPELLS - CALIFORNIA ASTROLOGY ASSOCIATION

Now, the California Astrology Association doesn't implicitly tout these spells as "white magic" - that's my distinction. These are spells which tend to help you without harming others. They tend to be restorative and purge evil from your life in some way. A few involve the "power of positive thought", giving you the confidence and focus you need to make necessary changes in your life. These tend to be what I call "harmless", because they don't necessarily encourage you to think bad thoughts about other people.

* Aura Cleansing Spells
* Self-Improvement Spells
* Go For It Spells
* Purge Evil Spirits
* Happiness Spell
* Think Thin Spell
* End Regrets Spell
* Dream-Catcher Spell

While I'm not sure what I think about the "Think Thin" spell, I can see the psychological assistance believing in a "Go for It" or "End Regrets" spell might offer. The rite of passage that a spell might offers in getting regrets out of your mind might help a person with particular neuroses, though I doubt it would help many. The Go-For-It spell might boost your confidence, if you believe you have something that's going to assist you, if you take a change. Fortune favors the bold, they say, so I can see the value in the power of positive thought, in this case.

POWERFUL STERLING SILVER JEWELRY CHARMS buy a revenge or retribution spell.

* Black Curses
* Vampire Spells
* Whammy Spell!
* Terminator Spell
* Snake-Eyes Spell
* Retribution Spell
* Black Magic Spell (generic)
* Warlock's Revenge Spell

This is where I wonder about the California Astrology Association. Ask yourself what you think about a group of sorcerers and wiccans who are willing to sell their abilities to harm people based on your ability to pay 30. Mind you, the CAA doesn't seem to care whether you are the aggrieved in these situations. They'll take sides, whether you're the good buy or the bad guy, depending on who is first to pay them. This is black hat astrology, in my point of view.

Imagine two people in a dispute, both going to the Castrology website, hoping to pay the CAA to place the dreaded Snake-Eyes spell on each other. Boom - you both get hammered by perhaps the worst spell known to the California Astrology Association. Imagine if your enemy chooses the "Preemptive Strike Spell" or the "Reverse Curse Spell". Then your money goes for naught, and you get hammered with your own deviltry.

I suppose the CAA would tell you they know who is good and who is bad, because of their psychic powers, astrology readings, and skills at tarot. I haven't yet seen them make that claim on their website, though. For all you can tell, the CAA is willing to curse perfectly innocent people for twenty or thirty dollars. In fact, for six dollars more, they'll double the strength of that curse.

SPELL CASTING SERVICES BY THE CALIFORNIA ASTROLOGY ASSOCIATION

CALIFORNIA ASTROLOGY ASSOCIATION MONEY SPELLS

Perhaps the money spells list is less corrupt, though I once again wonder how the metaphysics of this works. Once again, let's use our imaginations. Imagine you are a powerful psychic with the ability to know beforehand what the lottery winning numbers are going to be, which is the implication in the Lottery spell. Would you play the lottery and retire to a beach in the Caribbean, or sell that ability to someone else for 29?

I suppose it hasn't been proven that psychics from the California Astrology Association haven't done both. I guess, once again, these people could be running this website from that beach in the Caribbean, but it also seems like twenty-nine dollars is small change for someone who has won the lottery. Also, why haven't we heard about all these lottery winners who used the CAA website? Maybe it's a well-kept secret.

Or maybe their Bingo-Sweeps Lottery Spell doesn't work. Once again, their page selling this spell doesn't explicitly state you'll win the lottery, if you buy this magick (only that you'll be better at games of chance), but why name it the lottery spell, if you aren't trying to convince people it's going to help them win the lotto, Mega Millions or Powerball?

* Wealth Spell
* A Rich Life Spell
* Spells to Vanish Debt
* Casino Buster Spells
* Bingo-Sweeps Lottery Spell
* The Cash! Spell
* Money Windfall Spell
* Break the Bank Spell

Once again, this is just a small sampling. The people at the California Astrology Association know a thing or two about using magic spells to make money, though perhaps not in the way advertised. A lot of the CAA's spells have to do with money or your bank account. The only subject more traveled is love and relationships magic.

What I hate about the money spell list is that people needing money are sending their money to the CAA, instead of saving it up.

Wanga Dolls could bring you all that you desire! Absolutely guaranteed to work, or your money back!

LOVE SPELLS

The love spells, I'll be a little less harsh on. A lot of times, having the confidence to speak to the guy or girl you've had the crush on is half the battle. So buying a spell which gives you a false sense of security might have a placebo effect which gets you moving in the right direction. Women love confidence, so if you're a guy who needs an "Adore Me" or "Make Me Sexy" spell to give him that confidence, then maybe these have a certain value. Maybe, maybe not.

* Romance Me Spell
* Adore Me Spell
* Send Me My Lover Back! Spell
* Barrelful of Love Spell
* Make Me Sexy Spell
* End His Roving Eye Spell
* Love Magic Spell
* Delicious Sex Spell
* Torrid Affair Spells

The magic love spells I'm not so sure about are the ones like the "Couple Buster" spell or the "Enchantment" spell. The first appears to be a curse to break up a possibly contented couple, while the second appears to put an enchantment on someone who wouldn't otherwise be attracted to you. You might as well buy the Rohypnol Spell or the Roofies Spell.

THE KRAKOW SPELL

One of my favorites is the Krakow spell. This is kind of an everything spell. The person behind this magic helps you become a master of your life. This will-worker is a telepathic blessed with the power to connect and forge a bond with a person. Their telepathy is so great, in fact, that the Krakow spell-caster can determine exactly what you desire and need.

Your bond will become stronger with "Krakow" (for lack of a better distinction). They will know your pain, frustrations, and disappointments. Eventually, though, you may sense their spirit beside you, giving you the necessary force to gain riches "in love and money".

What do you have to pay to get this kind of powerful boost? Only 29. If you want the spell cast twice to increase its power - once now and one in two hours - all you have to do is pay 6 more. 35.00 is all you need to have the Krakow Spell change your life. That's Amazing.

Powerful Love Spells to help you find-and keep-your true love. Absolutely guaranteed, or your money back!

DO CALASTROLOGY SPELLS WORK?

Since ethical concerns might not be high up on your list of priorities when deciding whether to buy from the California Astrology Association, let's address the question which might be more of a concern to potential customers: do Castrology spells work?

I did some searching for "california astrology association scams" and found a number of people who complained the CAA wasn't honoring their moneyback pledge. Those posted complaints tended to be countered by people who either said the CAA spells worked for them, or that they had honored their promises and paid them back. Some pointed out that the CAA's guarantee is for 1 year, so they don't pay you back until a year transpires and nothing's happened. Others suggested they were paid back within 3 to 6 months, usually a week or so after complaint.

This goes to show that CAA spells don't always work. The people defending the California Astrology Association claimed that spells only worked when they believed in them and kept a positive attitude. This is a great built-in excuse, of course. If the spell didn't work, it's not the fault of the California astrologers. You just didn't believe enough.

CALIFORNIA ASTROLOGY ASSOCIATION SUCCESS RATE

I suppose those who support noetic science might say that, for a skeptic or disbeliever in magic, these spells are never going to work for you. If you believe that magic spells can help you in your life and it's worth roughly 29 to you to find out, then try out the California Astrology Association. If you have lingering doubts or qualms, save your money.

The Night Itself By Zoe Marriott

The Night Itself By Zoe Marriott
"Stealing the sword was a bad idea. I can't pretend I didn't realise that at the time. I wasn't even supposed to know about the thing, let alone sneak up and snaffle it from the attic where it was carefully concealed in the dark, under layers of cobwebs and rotting Christmas decorations. "Pages - 365Published by Walker

Seconds away from becoming kitty-food, Mio is saved by Shinobu, a mysterious warrior boy.

But it's already too late. Mio has ruptured the veil between the mortal realm and the Underworld, and now the gods and monsters of ancient Japan stalk the streets of London, searching for her and the sword.

With the help of her best friend Jack, a fox spirit named Hikaru - and the devoted protection of the bewitchingly familiar Shinobu - Mio attempts to discover the true nature of the sword and its connection to the Yamato family.

Because if she doesn't learn how to control the katana's incredible powers, she's in danger of being overwhelmed by them. And if she can't keep the sword safe from the terrible creatures who want it for their own, she'll lose not only her own life... but the love of a lifetime.
There's no doubt that Zoe Marriott's
I can't compare it to any other trilogy, because the author has created her own unique route in YA. How often have you come across a katana in a house in the UK? Seriously kudos for originality!Mio isn't your stereotypical character either, her Japanese heritage makes her stand out from the rest. She is small but feisty and deals with the quick turnaround of events in her life with ease and maturity.

It felt like her family's past was inbred into and released as soon as she retrieved the katana. Shinobu's feelings were obviously strong for her from the beginning, but then he had experienced many years to cultivate them. I look forward to watching the growing relationship between Shinobu and Mio.

Hikaru was my favourite character of all. I loved him as soon as his bushy tail appeared. His modern, young,voice contrasted well with Shinobu's mature, classical one. The characters present a very British feel to this book; their constant banter is so realistic and dry in humour. The author has managed to make fantasy appear very real.

I loved that this was set in the UK. The inclusion of Battersea Power Station really excited me. I'm surprised it hasn't made an appearance in more YA

House Blessing Spells And Talismans

House Blessing Spells And Talismans

HOUSE BLESSING

Assemble:

Salt and Water

Incense for fire and air

Milk and Honey

Oil for anointing

Wine for the offering, can be white wine or a cider

Bells, Pots, Pans, Whistles, etc.

Cast a circle in the main room - living room and after casting, visualize the circle expanding to include the entire house. Call upon the spirits and energies living in the house or apartment. Invite those who will be harmonious with the new household and its energies to remain. Invite - ask those who will be happier elsewhere to depart.

Release all "energies" not compatible with the new household. This may be expressed as a "release" in order to unbind anything that may be stuck. Then call upon, greet, and invite ancestors, patron deities, and all harmonious spirits and energies to dwell in the house as they please.

Gather up the pots, pans, and all the noise-makers. Go to each door and window, not forgetting the fire-place and dog-door, making as much racket as humanly possible-to shoo out anything unwanted. This can be fun, and also raises lots of energy for the next important step. Go again throughout the house and at each portal such as doors, windows, etc. sprinkle salt - water and cense, saying:

"By the Elements I purify and charge this portal."

Then anoint the portal with milk and honey, saying:

"By Milk and Honey I ensure prosperity and peace within this place."

Finally, anoint the portal with oil, saying:

"With Oil I seal this portal and protect all within."

At the front door a special prayer is said, asking the guardian deities of God and Goddess to freely grant entry to all friends and loved ones, and to prevent passage to any who would do harm." Then, if it's a house, pour wine across the width of the threshold; if it's an apartment anoint the threshold with light touches of wine.

The house holders then each take a sip of wine, leaving some as an offering to the Gods, and the Circle should be closed. The remaining wine, milk, and honey should be offered to the Gods outdoors.

This is very effective if done as part of a house warming party, followed by much feasting. It has also been done very effectively by two people. It only takes about 30 minutes to do a large house. You can take the time.

Do make certain to "ground" afterward, by closing the circle and by eating.This ritual can "stir" up everybody and make the house feel full of "buzzy" energy. Author Unknown

Touch the lintel and touch the wall,

Nothing but blessings here befall!

Bless the candle that stands by itself,

Bless the book on the mantle shelf,

Bless the pillow for the tired head,

Bless the hearth and the light shed.

Friends who tarry here, let them know

A three fold blessing before they go.

Sleep for weariness - peace for sorrow

Faith in yesterday and tomorrow.

Friends who go from here, let them bear

The blessing of hope, wherever they fare.

Lintel and windows, sill and wall,

Nothing but good, this place befall.

HOW CAN I PERFORM A HOUSE BLESSING AND WHAT METHOD SHOULD I USE?

There are many ways to perform a house blessing. It's important to use the method you feel most comfortable with that you are either drawn to, or coincides with your spiritual beliefs. You can combine elements of different house blessings into your own method.

WHY DO PEOPLE PERFORM HOUSE BLESSINGS?

House blessings have been performed for centuries and span various religious and spiritual beliefs. A house blessing can be done to increase the flow of good energy and bless, or to protect against a haunting or unrested spirits that may reside there.

HOLY WATER

Some people revere holy water as a very powerful tool in house blessings. You can scatter holy water about and say some prayers of protection or cleansing, as in a traditional house blessing or exorcism.

SEA SALT

Some use sea salt scattered around rooms and or a structure's foundation to ward off active spirits. Sea salt cleanses and protects, creating a shield that the spirits cannot communicate through.

INCENSE - SMUDGE STICKS

Others use incense and or smudge sticks, in conjunction with a ceremony and/or incantation to protect and bless their homes.

HERBS

There are herbs that have been used throughout history as a representation of protection. This belief throughout the centuries contributes power to it's self and use. They can be used in ceremonies and scattered about, burned or kept in a pouch.

FENG SHUI

Many people observe the guidelines of Feng Shui to assist them in creating an interior that is inclusive of a healthy flow of energy. Colors, images and placement of decor and furniture is all a part of Feng Shui.

TALISMANS

Some people still choose to wear and utilize talismans as a means of protection, as many of our ancestors did throughout history. These can be in many forms; charms, pouches, stones, crystals and symbols. These can be of any faith as talismans of the past and through to the present all represent different beliefs and deities. From a crucifix to rosary beads, a pentacle or rune.

ICONS AND STATUES

Statues and icons representing various deities are very powerful and have also been used throughout history to present day. These could vary from a statue of the Blessed Mother to angels, Buddha or Isis.

PROTECTION OF THE PAST: SUPERSTITION AND FOLKLORE

There are many folktales and beliefs through history that include warding off evil spirits and energies. Minds and souls of the past put much faith in a jar of sand on their windowsill and doorstep. They believed any ill spirits that wandered there would be trapped in counting the grains of sand and never enter. Glass "spirit globes" of spun glass were hung in windows to enchant any dark spirits passing by and keep them from entering. Talismans and protection pouches were also quite common and popular.

EMPOWERING A TALISMAN OR HOUSE BLESSING

Whether creating a talisman, pouch or performing a house blessing, the energy of your mind and soul that you place into it is very important. Keep your focus of protection and security in mind as you perform or create your protection blessing/talisman.

EMPOWERING YOUR HOUSE BLESSING WITH WORDS

The words used in a prayer, incantation or ceremony are very powerful when created from your own mind and soul. If you feel unable to use your own, then a pre-written blessing would be best. It's most important to have a strong faith in the power of whatever words you use, whether it's written by yourself or another.

Good luck with blessing your home and performing your own protection ceremony. There is no other house warming gift that gives more peace and serenity. by Rachel Cadran

TO PROTECT AND BRING PEACE AND HARMONY TO YOUR HOME:

Take equal parts of Betony and Lavender or what ever you prefer, blend them together in a mortar. After mixing well, charge the herbal mixture. Using a small amount, sprinkle across the doorstep. All the while, you should be concentrating on the vivid barrier and repeat the following incantation:

"This doorstep with its welcome ways,

be guarded by a shield of rays.

to guard this home by day and night,

protect it with this door of white.

Let nothing enter not of good,

and those within do as they would.

The aura left by herb and spell,

will safely seal this entrance well."

TO BANISH NEGATIVE FORMS FROM YOUR HOME

Begin with a purification bath. Light the twin candles on the altar and burn a protective and/or cleansing incense. Fill your chalice with fresh water and be sure to consecrate it and blessed salt. Kneel or assume the Goddess position as you say:

"Naked come I into this sanctuary

With love and faith

From those who have gone before.

Innocent am I in understanding

Holy and pure in my love of all good and blessed things.

Supreme Goddess, ruler of light,

Lord of all

Hear my prayer,

Help me now to dispel this thing of unholiness

This creature of darkness,

Who dooms itself to shame and unhappiness.

Save him if it is thy will to do so.

Send him to the light.

Mercy is the song I sing;

Forgiveness the word most precious.

In thy everlasting grace I say this.

In humility I ask this.

So mote it be."

Take up the chalice of salt-water, face the east wall, dip your fingers into the water, raise your hand and say:

"Powers of the East

Powers of the daystar rising

And all fresh beginnings

I purify you with salt and with water

For good vibrations of friendship warmth and love."

Then sprinkle some extra water and proceed to the south. Say:

"Powers of the South

Powers of the summer sun

Which warms our bodies and our minds

I purify you with salt and with water

For good vibrations of friendship, warmth and love."

Repeat in the west:

"Powers of the West

Powers of the purifying and cleansing waters

From which all life comes.

I purify you with salt and with water

For good vibrations of friendship, warmth and love."

Repeat in the north:

"Powers of the North

Powers of the earth, the ground

On which we stand.

I purify you with salt and with water

For good vibrations of friendship, warmth and love."

Then proceed around the room sprinkling water over all the thresholds,windows, and doorways and in all corners.

"REPEAT IN EVERY ROOM"

Add more incense to the burner, take up, and do the same thing, using the same verses substituting "fire and air" in place of "salt and water." As before, proceed around the room censing all the thresholds,windows, doorways, and in all corners.

"REPEAT IN EVERY ROOM"

Take the fire candle or a candle for this purpose and your athame and, starting at the door or entrance, walk slowly CLOCKWISE through the house, through each room pausing at each door, window, and mirror and moving the candle across it, also pentagramming each window, doorway, and mirror with the athame. Proceed room by room spiraling clockwise. All the while chant the following:

"By the One Power

I hereby consecrate this space

To the Goddess and the God,

According to free will

And for the good of all;

I hereby release,

In all time and all space,

Any negative cause, effect, manifestation, form or essence,

Any negative event, thought, energy, idea or vibration,

And transform it to

And replace it with

Only positive, joyous good

In keeping with the Universal harmonies

Of the Goddess and the God.

This space is divinely protected

This space is perfectly safe.

Nothing and no one can enter this space

Unless I (or my loved ones) allow them to.

This space is sacred

Consecrated and dedicated to positive living

For myself and my loved ones

And for the work of positive magic.

No harm can come to this space, or anyone in it."

As you draw each pentagram say:

"Only good can enter here

No negatives can enter

All harm is sealed out."

When you are back at the entry point conclude:

"Love lives here

Health lives here

Abundance lives here

(Name self and loved ones) live here

We claim this space for ourselves, for the mutual good

And so mote it be!"

PEACEFUL HOME

This spell is very good if there is a lot of turmoil or stress in the household. Do the following spell, and while doing so, remember to focus on your intent for a peaceful household. Sew a small pouch of lavender cloth. Place a small trinket in the pouchfor each member of your household. Add to this a pinch each of lavender, rose and chamomile, before placing each pinch in the pouch, remember to hold it for a moment and REALLY focus, finally, add a small amethyst. Now, anoint a lavender or pink candle with peace oil and then light it. Sit in front of thecandle and hold the pouch in your hands and whisper the following chant over it softly 3 times:

Blessed Goddess, most gentle one,

calm my home for me.

Relieve all tension, send it far,

so from stress we shall be free.

Touch my family with peace and calm,

and the sweetest softest bliss,

bless my home, Great Gentle Goddess,

with your calming kiss.

Set the pouch with the candle. Allow the candle to burn down completely. Hang the pouch in your home, preferably in the room where everyone gathers the most. Whenever tension seems to build, repeat the above chant 3 times and envision peace and tranquility radiating from the pouch and The Goddess. ~source unknown

MOON WATER RITUAL FOR A PEACEFUL HOME

Fill a glass bowl or jar with clean water. Place either a QUARTZ CRYSTAL, MOONSTONE, or both in the water. Add three drops each of ROSE and LAVENDER OIL, and set the water outside overnight in a place where the light of the Moon can shine upon it.

Say this blessing upon the water:

Moonlight,

bless this water,

clean and pure.

May it bring peace

and simple joy

to my home.

On the following morning, pour the water into a spray bottle or covered jar, allowing the stones to remain in the water if possible. Use the elixir to mist each room of your home, and visualize peace and harmony. You can add the rest of the water mixture to your bath water,or use it to anoint objects.

The Mystery School Of Sophia

The Mystery School Of Sophia And The Divine Feminine G G R A
G.G.R.A. = 2+0+1+4+7+19 = 33

2+0+1+4+7+1+9 = 24 = X

33+X = RA+RA+RA = SION = 57

THE MYSTERY SCHOOL OF SOPHIA"In certain artworks I explore spiritual concepts and iconography. There are 9 elements and icones woven into this painting of the Goddess, Sophia. Below I discuss the work in general, a list of all 79 can be found via a link at the end of the article to my fine art site.

"

THE DIVINE FEMININE"As the feminine companion to God, Sophia symbolizes the womb of creation which brings forth all life from the sacred marriage of opposing energies: spirit and matter, heaven and earth, intellect and intuition. She holds the caduceus: the winged staff entwined with two serpents.

The serpent is an ancient symbol of duality. It is considered both masculine and feminine, solar and lunar, medicinal and poisonous, preserver and destroyer, spiritual and sensual. In addition, the synthesis of opposing energies is represented by the Rosy Cross, from which emerges the sheaf of grain, representing the ultimate revelation of the Mysteries.

On the left of Sophia, the feminine energies are symbolized by the moon and the pool of water. The moon governs the tidal cycles and is associated with the waters of creation. The moon also symbolizes the material realm. As the moon reflects the light of the sun, matter is the reflection of spirit. In addition, the moon illuminates the invisible world which corresponds to the feminine gift of intuition.

On the right of Sophia, the masculine energies are represented by the sun and the element of fire. The sun generates heat and light which sustains all life. The sun also symbolizes the spiritual realm. As the sun generates light, the spiritual realm is composed of pure light. In addition, the sun illuminates the visible world, which corresponds to the masculine characteristic of intellect.

The holy number seven is associated with the four lunar phases and is sacred to Sophia. According to the Book of Proverbs, "Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out it's seven pillars." These are known as the Seven Pillars of Wisdom: Arithmetic, Geometry, Astronomy, Grammar, Rhetoric, Dialectic, and Music.

The Greek religious temples and philosophical academies were supported by pillars carved in the likeness of women, as the priestesses of the Great Goddess were the original "pillars of the church". In ancient times, the seven stars of the Pleiades marked the point of the vernal equinox which occurred in the constellation of Taurus.

According to the Greeks, the Seven Sisters were a flock of doves, placed in the heavens by Zeus. The leader of the Pleiades was Alcyone, the "halcyon" bird which ensured good weather during the sowing month of Taurus. Appearing in the form of a dove, Sophia was identified with the Holy Spirit in the Gospels.

Accordingly, the Holy Spirit is frequently depicted in religious iconography with seven rays of light emanating from it. These correspond to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord. Sophia is also the embodiment of the Many-Named Lunar Goddess, crowned with a halo of twelve stars, which correspond to the twelve months, or moons, of the solar year.

Upon her forehead, she wears the symbol of the triple moon. This corresponds to the three visible lunar phases of the Triple Goddess: the Virgin (Waxing Moon), the Mother (Full Moon), and the Crone (Waning Moon). Furthermore, her triple aspect is represented by her three daughters; Faith, Hope, and Charity.

According to the ancients, the Earth is encircled by seven heavens or spheres. Above them is the eighth sphere of the fixed stars. Also, behind the eighth sphere is the heavenly light of the Divine which shines through the crystal sphere and appears as stars. The All-Seeing Eye symbolizes illumination and was originally an emblem of Maat, the Egyptian goddess of justice.

She is identified with the Greek goddess Ananke, the Strong Fate, who guides the destiny of the universe and is the Spindle of Necessity upon which all the spheres of heaven revolved. The two males reclining near the feet of Sophia represent the sacred king and his deputy who each ruled for one half of the year.

This corresponds to the Ancient Poetic Theme: the God of the Waxing Year constantly striving against the God of the Waning Year for the love of the Triple Goddess. One male sits near the point of the winter solstice, known as the Gate of the Gods, where the soul ascends upon the solar path to the heavenly realm of spirit.

The other male sits near the point of the summer solstice, known as the Gate of Men, where the soul descends upon the lunar path to the physical realm of matter. Both of these cycles harmoniously complement each other as the eternally revolving Wheel of Life, or Zodiac. The stars around the moon and beneath of dove are five-pointed pentacles.

These are associated with the goddess Venus, as her planet forms a five-Pointed star within the circIe of the zodiac every eight years. Around the head of Sophia are six-pointed stars which symbolize the union of masculine and feminine energies. To her right is a lily which is her sacred flower and symbolizes both purity and innocence.

To her left is a lotus, the Eastern Counterpart to the lily, which also represents enlightenment. Near the locus is a crown, which symbolizes divinity, sovereignty, power, and royalty. Finally, in her right open hand hays a book, the universal symbol of knowledge and wisdom. The ouroboros gracing the cover often represents self-reflectivity or cyclically, in the sense of something constantly re-creating itself, or the eternal return.

The Ghost Festival

The Ghost Festival
I spend a considerable time telling ghost stories and travelling to haunted locations. I travelled to some of the cemeteries I visited in Chicago with a Taiwanese friend. After we left the cemetery, he laughed and said that his mother would be very mad at him for his careless wandering of the cemetery. He explained that in his culture after you leave a cemetery, you must go to a temple and cleanse yourself or you risk bringing a spirit home with you. This got me to thinking about other differences there might be in perceptions of ghosts in between cultures. In my search for cultural differences I discovered the ghost festival.

The Ghost Festival is celebrated during the seventh month of the Chinese Lunar calendar. It is also called the Hungry Ghost Festival in some regions. During this month, the gates of hell are opened up and ghosts are free to roam the earth where they seek food and entertainment. The ghosts are ancestors of those who have not offered any tribute to them. They are also ghosts of those who died and were never properly disposed of. They have long thin necks because they have not been fed by their family. During this time, family members pray to their deceased relatives and burn joss paper. In the underworld paper items hold value, which is why they burn it as offering to the ghosts that have come from the gates of hell. The afterlife is very similar in some aspects to the material world, and the paper effigies of material goods would provide comfort to in the afterlife. People would also burn other things such as paper houses, cars, servants and televisions to please the ghosts.

Families also pay tribute to other unknown wandering ghosts so that these homeless souls do not intrude on their lives and bring misfortune and bad luck. A large feast is held for the ghosts on the fourteenth day of the seventh month, where everyone brings samplings of food and places them on the offering table to please the ghosts and ward off bad luck. So i seems, in many Eastern cultures ghosts are treated with much more respect than they are here. The living are careful to care for ghosts and to make sure that ghosts are given what they need to prevent hauntings. This seems so very foreign to our culture here, which views ghost stories as fairy tales and folk lore. I like the Asian perspective. The picture above is some of the offerings that have been left during ghost festival.
