Pagan woman in polygamous relationship allowed to stay in Britain after

telling Home Office beliefs forbid divorce

By John Hutchinson

Last updated at 7:52 PM on 18th December 2011

Pagan victory: Emily DiSanto stressed her Odinist beliefs forbade her

boyfriend divorcing his wife - and so she should be allowed to stay in the

UK

An American woman who lives with her boyfriend and his wife has avoided

deportation after claiming that their pagan beliefs forbid divorce.

Emily DiSanto was originally told that on the grounds of public morality

which ban polygamous relationships, she would not be granted a Visa to stay

in the UK.

But appealing on the grounds of her right to family life, she has won her

case under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Miss DiSanto shares the home of Alan and Anne-Marie Caulfield in Eltham,

South East London - and both women have a child by Mr Caulfield.

In what is an extraordinary outcome, Miss DiSanto's lawyer highlighted that

by his client being deported, it would not only affect the well-being of her

own son, but also Mrs Caulfield's son.

The case will no doubt increase pressure on the government to reform human

rights laws, as yet again they have been used to overturn civil servants'

decisions.

All three worship Norse gods, including Odin and Thor, and claim that their

beliefs rule out a divorce between Mr and Mrs Caulfield, who according to

DiSanto's lawyer, no longer have a sexual relationship.

The Home Office dropped its objection on the grounds of bigamy, and Miss

DiSanto made two appeals.

It is thought her success was largely down to the fact that civil servants

could not prove that Miss DiSanto was involved in polygamy.

All under one roof: Miss DiSanto lived with fellow Pagan couple Anne-Marie

and Alan Caulfield in Eltham, south-east London

All change: The Home Office will be pushing for change in its immigration

rules after Emily DiSanto won a case to stay int he UK due to Human Rights'

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Ian Macdonald, QC, president of the

Immigration Law Practitioners' Association said: "There is no law against

threesomes. For many people such a thing may be morally objectionable but it

is not unlawful.

"I think the original decision to cite polygamy as a reason to refuse

permission was probably that of a junior official which, further up the

chain, was recognised to be unsustainable. It would have been kicked out by

any court.

After losing a first appeal, which the Government took into account that

Miss DiSanto, from Chicago, arrived in Britain in 2008 already pregnant with

Caulfield's baby, casting doubt on any intentions to leave in time, DiSanto

made a second appeal.

Meeting point: Most people will be familiar with Stonehenge - a traditional

meeting place for Pagans - but little might be known about Odinist beliefs

which have helped an American woman remain in the UK

Here her lawyers highlighted that family life would be hugely disrupted by

Miss DiSanto being deported, and Upper Tribunal Judges Bernard Dawson and

Catriona Jarvis found favour in her argument.

A Home Office Spokesman told the Sunday Telegraph: "We are disappointed by

the court's decision in this case.

"For too long Article 8 has been used to place the family rights of

immigration offenders above the rights of the British public.

"This is why we will change the immigration rules to reinforce the public

interest in seeing those who have breached our immigration laws removed from

this country.
"

The Caulfields and Miss DiSanto have declined to comment on the court's

decision.

Rashida Jones Father Is Composer Quincy Jones

Rashida Jones Father Is Composer Quincy Jones
RASHIDA JONES' FATHER IS COMPOSER QUINCY JONES - You may recognize Rashida Jones from her starring turn in NBC's The Office or her half a dozen other acting gigs in TV and movies, but it's the role she was born into- the biracial Jewish daughter of music mogul Quincy Jones- that made her famous. She plays Karen Filipelli on NBC's The Office, but Rashida Jones hasn't an ounce of Italian in her. The daughter of Mod Squad beauty Peggy Lipton and composer/music mogul Quincy Jones, she's biracial and Jewish, a "double whammy" of a distinction that she has found challenging and liberating at different times in her life.

Growing up in progressive privilege in Los Angeles, Jones "didn't have much cognizance of the fact that I was different. My parents were kind of hippies and I went to a Montessori school [where] everyone had different religions and cultural backgrounds. I had Jewish friends, I had black friends, I had Asian friends. So it didn't really occur to me that it was odd in any way," she explains. "The differences, or the way people Arriving at Harvard, she became aware of the effect her uniqueness had on people, as well as her status as a daughter of the famous. "College is a time when you're trying to individualize and distinguish yourself from others and create your own subculture, and that was hard for me because I wanted to be part of the black community. I was for a while," Jones recalls. "Then I had kind of an alienating experience. It wasn't really about being Jewish. It was more the way I looked. I was lighter and my hair was straighter and lighter. It was this tacit understanding that the lighter you are, the harder you have to try to be more committed to being black. That wasn't part of my constitution as a human being. For me it was just about what I identified with. I wasn't really in the practice of having to prove myself to anybody. I was definitely scared off because there were a couple of girls who didn't like me and made me work really hard for friendship. [But] it was good in a sense because with every step of alienation I realized that my identity is truly my own."

Ironically, Jones had "identified strongly with black culture" in high school and considered that criteria in her college choice, but in the end found her niche with Jewish friends. "Junior year, I started dating a guy who was Conservative and had an Orthodox brother and practiced more than I did, was more devout than I was," she explains. "We had a group of friends who were Jewish so I naturally gravitated towards that culturally and religiously, which was cool because I didn't have a bat mitzvah. I left Hebrew school when I was 10 because the girls were kind of snotty and I hadn't gone back to exploring it. Being biracial and Jewish, I'm kind of given permission to explore whatever culture goes along with that. If I were just black and not Jewish I wouldn't have had that entr'ee."

Jones, whose mother grew up in an observant home in Lawrence, New York, has fond memories of Jewish celebrations of her youth. "We always celebrated the High Holidays. I did fast in high school for Yom Kippur and attend services. We always went to seder for Passover. I really liked the cultural and the familial side of Judaism. It was always the most comfortable place for me, making time for family and community."

When she was 10, Jones attended a Passover seder at Beverly Hills' Chasen's restaurant. "I remember I found the afikomen and I got 100, which at the time was a ridiculous amount of money. I was actually happier about the candy I got than the money," she laughs, noting that she traditionally celebrates the holiday with good family friends, the Ostins. "My memories of Jewish holidays were associated with them and have always had that positive aspect, very comforting," she notes.

While she sometimes regrets not having a bat mitzvah, it doesn't diminish her faith. "In this day and age, you can choose how you practice and what is your relationship with God. I feel pretty strongly about my connection, definitely through the Jewish traditions and the things that I learned dating the guy that I dated. My boyfriends tend to be Jewish and also be practicing," she muses. "I don't see it as a necessity, but there's something about it that I connect with for whatever reason. I think it probably has a lot to do with my mom, the way I grew up, and the family friends that we had and the paradigm that I saw of family life and what I would want for myself, and that was all kind of interconnected."

These days Jones lives in New York and commutes to L.A. to work, and calls The Office "my favorite job that I've ever had." She once dated co-star John Krasinski, but insists that it was "pure coincidence" that she was cast as a love interest for him, though she knew that was the plot going in.

While her credits include TV dramas like Wanted and Boston Public, Jones enjoys and gravitates toward comedy and is proudest of her work on The Office, Chappelle's Show, and a guest spot on Freaks & Geeks, for which she's still recognized. She's currently spending time shooting two films in New York.

Constantly told she looks too light to play African American, and rarely cast in period pieces because, she explains, "people like me didn't exist," Jones admits it's "been a bit of an uphill battle to be somewhere in the middle." On the other hand, "it gives me a tiny bit more range, and because I don't look like one thing or fit into one thing, the people who do cast me understand me as an individual and what I have to offer as opposed to what I look like and how it fits into their mold," she says, noting that casting opportunities are slowly becoming more colorblind, and as society becomes more multi-cultural, Jones predicts, "More and more you will see people look like me, where you don't know what race they are, which is nice."

Otherwise, she enjoys being something of a chameleon. "I can immerse myself in the cultures and pick and choose what I want and then just be myself. I have all these different groups of friends. The nature of who I am and the fact that I am so many things allows me to float," explains Jones, who feels strongly connected to both her black and Jewish cultures.

"I have a great family," she says, "but because my grandparents passed away and my cousins live in Texas, the Jewish family element is harder to come by and I have to make more of an effort to keep in touch." More than anything, she notes, music is what bonds her to her black heritage. "The nice thing about my dad, his connection to music is, even after 50 years, a heart process for him and it's a really nice way for us to connect."

Jones, who has sung backup on several albums including Maroon 5's Songs About Jane, hopes to record an album at some point. "I can't ignore it. It's definitely a passion," she says of music. She became interested in performing at a young age. "I was a really precocious child and I did everything - music and acting - and I was a very good student. I went to college thinking I wanted to be a lawyer and then was very quickly disillusioned watching the O.J. Simpson trial. I started doing theater sophomore year. I realized that if it was something that I loved why should I treat it as an extra-curricular if I could actually excel at it? And I thought I would give it a shot."

Her parents were supportive, offering advice "both solicited and unsolicited but all incredibly helpful. My mom has pretty much helped me with every audition that I've ever had," Jones reflects. Taking the reins of her career, she recently produced the indie comedy The Ten, "loosely based on the Ten Commandments. I have a really tiny part," she notes.

Another venture is a clothing line called Laloo, so named for the way her goddaughter pronounces "I love you." Its launch this month will start on the Internet and in several boutiques with kits of three cotton shirts: tank top and short and long sleeve tees.

A believer in giving back to the community like her role model Oprah Winfrey, Jones devotes time to Peace Games, a charity that helps prevent violence by educating kids about resolving conflicts non-physically, starting in kindergarten. As for the notion she might inspire multi-cultural youth, "I never really see myself as a role model but if I can inspire anyone to feel better about themselves or move forward in their careers," she says, "I'm happy to do that."

Asked what else is on her to-do list, Jones, who keeps limber with Pilates, would "love to run a marathon at some point in my life." She also wants to have a family "some day soon," but she's happily unattached at the moment. "I spent so much of my life not being single that it's actually refreshing. I find the value in my life comes from my friends and family and I feel very at peace with myself," she reflects. "I'm not in a rush to get anywhere. That's good for me. I feel lucky that I've had the opportunities that I have and that I get to travel and work. I'm kind of going with the flow right now."

Evil Shades Review

Evil Shades Review
I didn't intend to take so long to post swatches of these... What I really wanted to do was post a bunch of looks using these colors, but I've been in such a creative rut lately... I haven't been able to think of any cool combinations! D'oh.

But here are some swatches from Evil Shades- a company owned by a fellow blogger- EvilAngel from Black Nail Polish and Lipgloss!

Some of the darker shades, indoors and in sunlight.

(Left to right)

Devil's Bonfire, Necropolis, Acolyte, Double Barrel, Abyss, Zombie, Souls Torment, Mordant.

Some of the colorful shades, indoors and in sunlight.

(left to right)

Heartless Queen, Errinye, Neritic, Mad People, Twinkle Twinkle, Steele Green, Reondite, Wanderflower, Nymphette, Chusi, Nightshade

As always, you can click the images to enlarge and view more detail.

I also got to try a blush and a cuticle creme sample (not pictures, hopefully to do another review later!) and these really pigmented Deviant lipsticks:

(left to right)

Primrose Path, Corruption, Devilista

So now that you've seen some examples of the types of fun colors she sells, I bet you're wondering about the formula... And I'm pleased to say that it's really nice!

I haven't used all of the shades for full looks yet but I have used about half of them on the eyes and I am pretty impressed. They're really smooth and pigmented. I normally have to use mineral-type shadows wet in order to achieve decent opacity and pigmentation but these were pretty good on their own. Even better wet. All of the colors have something special to them- they didn't look very vibrant in the plastic sample bags but once you put them on your skin they pop- some have secret colored shimmer, some have glitter (holo glitter too!), some have a faint reflective sheen to them.

The lipsticks were fantastic. I normally don't wear lipstick because it's drying and these aren't. These are almost a balm, but super crazy pigmentation. Devilista was like WHOA- amazing coverage and POW! color. You will want to use a lip brush with that one, color like that needs a precision application! Corruption is my favorite and I wear it pretty often now- a soft silvery-grey-purple shade with a little blue shimmer. Primrose Path is rather demure but works nicely to balance a dark and dramatic eye. On top of the great pigmentation and creamy formula, they smell nice. Really nice. I don't know exactly like what, but it's sweet and pleasant. I'm super into my lip products being scented- I've been known to not buy lip products because they were unscented- and I'm quite happy that these have a nice sweet scent to them! Makes them a little more fun.

There were a few things I didn't like. They are purely my personal preference and are not flaws with the product itself, but I felt I should give my honest opinion.

My main disappointment is with the packaging. It's very plain and a bit home-made looking. One one hand it adds to the charm and indie feeling, but on the other hand it seems a bit unprofessional. It is purely aesthetic- the product inside is great! But the little bags and plain black lip balm tubes with slightly off-center stickers don't seem to reflect what's inside. I do understand that it's only packaging and that it may not be feasible financially or time-wise for a one-woman-business to have custom The other thing that I didn't quite enjoy was that the samples come in bags. Again, this is my own personal preference and doesn't reflect the quality of the product. Some people love bag samples because they're less expensive and easier to store. I find them messy to use. For one, it's hard to get the pigment onto the brush because it's all settled onto the sides of the bag and I usually get my fingers a little dirty cause it ends up on the sides of the brush. Another reason why I prefer jars over bags is that I can't use the pigments wet when they're in a bag like I can when they're in a jar. In a jar I can put some mixing medium on the lid and mix a little of the shadow into it. And one other reason I don't like bag samples is that they don't make the colors look nice! Some of the shimmer tends to stick to the bag while some of the more colorful or pigmented parts in the shadow sink to the bottom, giving the illusion that it's a plain frosty shimmer... Only when you open the bag and touch the shadow do you see the true color.

I can see why the packaging would be this way- it keeps costs down! Makes it more accessible. No one likes to pay more for a fancy package, it's what's inside that counts! Except... I totally would pay more for a fancy package, it's part of the fun of makeup for me. But, that's just me.

I did remember to take pictures of one of the looks I did using Evil Shades (and there was also that look I did with Heartless Queen, my favorite... unfortunately I was using that damn Falsies mascara so my lashes look like crap!):

I don't remember everything I used for this look, but I do know that I used Acolyte and Devil's Bonfire mixed together in the crease. I think the lid color may have been Fyrinnae Electric Stardust. You can see how nice and sparkly and rich the crease color looks- that's not even used wet!

Evil Shades. Cool names. Creative colors. Nice formula on all the products I've tried. Very affordable prices. I also really, really love the dark alternative theme of the company- much better suited for me :)

Hopefully I'll find some creativity and get over my makeup block (kinda like writer's block?) so I can post some better looks using these!

(These products were sent to me for review.)

Demiurge

Demiurge
The Demiurge, i.e., "the Architect, the Artisan, the Creator", is a term describing the the god who fashioned the Universe and material existence, and who reigns over such creation. The term is used both in philosophy and in various religious sects, such as Gnosticism.

For most philosopher, the Demiurge is "number 2" on the totem pole of divinity and is the highest aspect of divinity mankind can comprehend. Behind the Demiurge lies "the one", the unknowable. It is this "unknowable" one that is, "The One, True God".

In Gnosticism, the Demiurge is usually portrayed as a false god who has imprisoned human souls in the false material world. According to certain Gnostics origins stories, an aeon named Sophia was the first to 'sin' by creating a being that should have never been. She did this without consulting with the other aeons. Her creation was the Demiurge. The Demiurge immediately attempt to take over and Sophia realized the gravity of her mistake and trapped the Demiurge within a black sphere or in other words, a false Universe. The Demiurge, unaware of it's fate, proclaimed itself to be the one true God and began to fashion it's prison to it's liking, creating the Universe that we see today. The Demiurge would go on to create human beings. However, the Demiurge did not create our souls but merely breathed into mankind part of his own "spark of divinity", which he was given by Sophia. Therefore, the Demiurge is referred to as "the half creator", as he created mankind's bodies but did not create our souls.

In Gnosticism, the Demiurge is generally viewed as an evil character that humans need to outwit and defeat before their soul can return to "the Source", our true existence. The Demiurge will try every trick in his book to keep humans trapped here in this fake universe. When a person dies their soul is reborn until one of either two things happens; 1.) The person learns to give up all desire and reaches a transcendent state so that they merge with the Source or Pleroma, or 2.) the spark within them finally goes out. If the spark of divinity goes out in the person then when that person dies they are completely obliterated. This obliteration is referred to as the second death.

Though the Demiurge is considered to be evil by man Gnostics, all hope for his salvation is not lost. It is believed that eventually the Demiurge will learn from it's mistakes and will likewise reach a transcendent state by which it will merge back into the Source.

To the Gnostics, the Demiurge was identified as the God of the Old Testament. The God spoken of by Jesus was not the Demiurge, but rather the "The Unknowable One", the true God.

What Is Gnostic Demiurge?

Djinn Or Jinn

Djinn Or Jinn
They are more than just evil beings; they are interesting creatures...

IN THE WESTERN WORLD we have grown up with the concept of demons and devils - the evil beings of the spirit world, according to traditional Christian beliefs. Other religions around the world have their spirit beings, too, of course. In Islam, the djinn are a race of spirit beings that can be good or evil. (Djinn, or jinn, is the origin of the more familiar word "genie" in English.)

As we learned in the recent article "Exorcism is Islam," Muslims believe that evil djinn can sometimes possess human beings, as some Christians believe demons can possess people.

But what are the djinn? Our Muslim contact, who we identify only as M.M., and who provided the video of the exorcism, answers questions about these spirit beings.

How were the djinn created?

Verses of the Koran and the Hadiths show unambiguously that the djinns were created of fire without smoke. According to Ibn ' Abbas, the expression "without smoke" means "end of the flame." Other scientists think that this expression means the purest of fires. What's important to know, quite simply, is that that the djinn were created of fire and therefore have a constitution completely different from ours.

The djinn were created before man. While the djinn were made of fire, man was made of clay and angels created of light.

In this way, the djinn are invisible. So if they are invisible how do we know they exist? Many things exist that our eyes do not see, but their effects are perceptible, such as the air and electrical current.

Also, this word was reported by Allah himself, and Allah does not lie.

Where do the djinn live?

The djinn prefer to live in places not inhabited by man, such as deserts and wastelands. Some among them live in the dirty places (dustbins) and others live among man. The djinn live in these dirty places in order to eat the remainders of foods thrown away by people. Also, certain djinn live in cemeteries and ruins.

Can djinn change form and appearance?

The djinn have the capacity to take many forms and to change appearance. According to the Imam Ibn Taymiya, they can take a human or animal, form such as a cow, a scorpion, a snake, a bird... The black dog is the devil of the dogs and the djinn often appear in this form. They can also appear in the form of a black cat.

When a djinn takes a human or animal form, it obeys the physical laws of this form; for example, it will be possible to see it or to kill it with a gunshot or to wound it with a knife. For this reason, djinn remain in these forms for only a short time because they are vulnerable. In fact, they benefit from their invisibility to frighten people.

Are djinn both male and female?

Yes, there are males and females among the djinn. According to the Koran, the djinn have the capacity to procreate and can have offspring.

Are djinn responsible for their acts?

Just like humans, the djinn are responsible for their acts. Indeed, Allah will take the day of the last Judgement to them.

According to the Imam Ibn Taymiya, the djinn observe obligations in relation to their specific nature. Being different from the human beings, their duties are inevitably different, too.

They have religious beliefs, too. Like human beings, they can be Christian, Jewish, non-believers or Moslems. The Moslems among them are just like the Moslems among men; some are pious, others are evil.

Are djinn afraid of humans?

The djinn and men feared each other mutually, but the djinn were able to instil fear more intensely than men. The djinns are more fearful beings by nature, but they can also feel such human emotions as anger or sadness. In fact, the djinn benefit from these states, being better able to cause fear in the heart of man. Like bad dogs, when they sense your fear, they will attack.

FULL MOON - The Full Moon rises at sunset and sets at sunrise. Astrologically the Sun and Moon are in "opposition "(opposite each other in sky and in opposite signs of the zodiac). She s visible from the time she rises until she sets. She opens and blossoms during the Full Moon into the FLOWER, with the desire to share her beauty with others. Those who are born during a Full Moon enjoy companship and partnership and desire to merge deeply. Fulfillment and illumination are their goals. Keywords for the Full Moon phase are: fulfillment, illumination, realization and experience. This is the time in a lunar cycle that you are given a clear view so that you can make adjustments to put you back on track to manifesting the goals you set at the new phase. Go to a public place. This is FREYA'S DAY - Venus Day, Day of Sharing and Relationships. There are Major magickal energies for Arts and Crafts before the Moon goes void of course. Create something to present at your Full Moon ritual.

This Full Moon is called an astrological 'blue moon' as it is the second one in a row in the Cardinal Fire Sign of Aries. So, ok, the moon only in Aries for about an hour as it reaches full or in one degree of Aries if you want to be technical but the Aries energies will still be vibrating in the air as the moon reaches it's Full Phase and hangs there for a little while. Then it will move into mellower, earthier Taurus. What does Luna's placement in this changing of signs mean for us? Aries represents our warrior spirit, the place within ourselves where we must learn to develop will power and courage. Often, we will face obstacles where Aries or Mars energy is involved, whether they come from inner or outer resistance. Look at its placement in your chart for even deeper understanding for how this Moon (or planet Mars and the Aries cusp) affect you on a more personal level.

In the Seasons of the Witch datebook this is called MOON OF THE MUSE. The Greek Muses were the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the goddess of Memory. The number of Muses varies over time. Initially there was but one, and later there is mention of three: Melete, Mneme, and Aoede (the Elder Muses). But now there is usually mention of nine muses: Calliope, Clio, Erato, Eulerpe, Melpomene, Polyhymina, Terpsichore, Thaila, and Urania, the Younger Muses. These are the Greek goddess of art and inspiration and are probably the most familiar ancient divinities today. They were raised by the hunter Chrotus, who was transported after death into the sky as Sagittarius. They are believed to inspire all artists, especially poets, philosophers and musicians. The Muses were venerated throughout Greece, but more so in those areas with many wells and springs. From their name words such as music, museum, and mosaic are derived.

"Nine Muses. Blessed Be!"Gentle goddesses, hear my plea. "What the world needs now the most"is inspiration"and good French toast. From "Season of the Witch 2010 Datebook"

Jesus A High Priest After The Order Of Melchizedek

Jesus A High Priest After The Order Of Melchizedek
Several days ago, a friend asked me to explain the statement in the book of Hebrews that Jesus is "a priest after the order of Melchizedek." This designation of Jesus as a priest after the order of Melchizedek has baffled many Christians and has produced several interesting interpretations. The purpose of this post is to study the meaning of the statement in Hebrews that Jesus is a priest after the order of Melchizedek.

Five times in the New Testament, Jesus is called, directly or indirectly, "a priest after the order of Melchizedek" (Hebrews 5:6, 10; 6:20; 7:11, 17). The text in Hebrews 5:5-10 presents two examples of the designation of Jesus as a high priest:

So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"; as he says also in another place, "You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek." In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 5:5-10 ESV).

The proper understanding of Jesus as Melchizedek must begin with Genesis 14:18, where Melchizedek is introduced for the first time: "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High."

Melchizedek met Abraham when the patriarch returned from the pursuit of Chedorlaomer and the other Mesopotamian kings who had taken Lot as a prisoner of war. In the text, Melchizedek is introduced as the priest of God Most High and as the king of Salem. Salem is an ancient name for Jerusalem: "His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion" (Psalm 76:2).

The identification of Melchizedek has been highly debated in the history of the church. Jewish tradition has identified Melchizedek with Shem, the son of Noah who, after the chronology in Genesis, survived the flood and lived at a time when Abraham was alive and was his contemporary for a hundred years.

Christian tradition has proposed different interpretations to identify who Melchizedek was. Origen said that Melchizedek was an angel. Others have proposed that he was the Holy Spirit in human form.

Many Christians, ancient and contemporary, have said that this is a classical example of a Christophany in the Old Testament, that is, Melchizedek was Jesus Christ himself, who appeared to Abraham in human form.

The concept of Christophany should be rejected because it contradicts the statement in the book of Hebrews that Jesus was designated a priest after the order of Melchizedek. If Melchizedek was Christ then how could Christ become a priest in the likeness of Melchizedek?

Another view is that Melchizedek was a type of Christ. The typological interpretation suggests that the priesthood of Melchizedek was a type of Christ's priesthood. As Melchizedek was a priest of the Most High God, so was Jesus. As Melchizedek was a king, so was Jesus. Both Melchizedek and Jesus were royal priests. In the persons of Melchizedek and Jesus the offices of priest and king were combined.

The text in Genesis indicates that Melchizedek was a Canaanite king who reigned in Jerusalem before the city was conquered by David and became the capital of the united monarchy (2 Samuel 5:6-10).

As king of Jerusalem, Melchizedek combined the offices of priest and king into his official duties. The combination of priesthood and kingship into the office of the king was not uncommon in the Ancient Near East. For instance, Ethbaal king of the Sidonians and the father of Jezebel, was also the priest of Astarte (1 Kings 16:31).

So, when David conquered Jerusalem and made the city the capital of his empire, he called the stronghold of Zion "The City of David" (2 Kings 5:9). David incorporated the original inhabitants of Jerusalem into the population of Israel and became their king.

Since the king of Jerusalem was also a priest, David became a priest, not because he was a Levite, but because he continued the tradition established by Melchizedek. This is what Psalm 110:4 is trying to communicate. The words of verse 4 are addressed to the king: "The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, 'You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.'"

Melchizedek now becomes a type of the Davidic king. The descendants of David will be king and they will be priests; this is clearly expressed in 2 Samuel 8:18: "and David's sons were priests."

The priesthood of Melchizedek is used by the author of the book of Hebrews to prove the claim that Jesus Christ was a high priest. In Israel, the high priest had to be a Levite and a descendant of Aaron. Since Jesus was from the tribe of Judah and a descendant of David, it was impossible for the writer of Hebrews to say that Jesus was a high priest.

But, this is precisely what the author of Hebrews is emphasizing in his writing. As a high priest, Jesus presented a sacrifice for sins. Jesus Christ was the "great high priest who has passed through the heavens" (Hebrews 4:14). Jesus Christ was the high priest who opened the way for people to approach the throne of grace (the Mercy Seat) with confidence so that they "may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:15-16).

The writer of the book of Hebrews then is saying that Jesus became a high priest, not because he was a descendant of Aaron. Jesus because a high priest after the order of Melchizedek because he was a descendant of David and a legitimate successor of the legacy left by David when he became king of Jerusalem.

By saying that Jesus became a priest after the order of Melchizedek, the author of Hebrews is emphasizing that Jesus "become a priest, not according to a legal requirement concerning bodily descent" (Hebrews 7:16-17), but because of the promise made to David that he and his descendants would become priests forever after the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4).

The erroneous view that Genesis 14:18 is a Christophany or that Melchizedek was an angel or even the Holy Spirit makes it difficult for the reader to understand the meaning of the statement that Jesus Christ is a high priest "after the order of Melchizedek."

Rootcutters

Rootcutters
"

Vaskania, Nekuya and Pharmakis gathered in the forest with wicker baskets and shears, they went hunting in the bright morning light, taking what they need, what they found, what called to them."

Vaskania gathered the downy fluff of withered old thistle growing in a birch grove for her cursing dolls- she stuffs them with thistle and bramble and thorn, she gives them hearts of black wisteria seeds, she sews them shut with poison-dipped thread and buries them under foundation and rock. Nekuya and I made offerings and placation at the roots of a great yew tree, and gathered fallen branches heavy with berries for our type of work, she uproots a great black hellebore and cuts its roots like a wild dog with hacking teeth, they seem quiver when she approaches. I gather snowberries and plums, pears and the last black berries. We munched on wild crab apples, drank down sweet red and played with little black snakes in the grass. Off home to ritual, to bathe in honey and goat's milk, to drink apple spice tea, to dye bolts of linen in pots of cherry-laurel and Oregon grape. Mostly, we just sit around cracking wise- we don't see each other much these days but when we do, insanity ensues...

I finally got around to trying out some of the incense I had been curing for the last two months; smelling like baked goods, sex, summer and love- all the best things! I won't be selling any, but I'll be adding it to Lala's care package because she's my pumpkin and I love her dearly.

I also finally got around to painting my hand sculpted Poisoner statue: her hands full of morning glory, poppy pod and datura pod, snake and skull at her feet- trumpet flower and amanita growing from her dress. She didn't turn out perfect but I'm content with my creation. She can be seen on my facebook page: Ivy On the Path. I also finished my copper leaf clay Hekate altar statue (above) done in two tones of copper leaf- a reddish one for her dress and solar/star crown (she is after-all the night-wandering daughter of starry-eyed Asteria) and pale copper for herself and snakes. Lastly, she holds three keys; having dominion on earth, the heavens and the underworld) and I'm thankful to everyone who helped me with the concept- especially Mark, Keri, Carol and Missa. I'm also happy to say that the success of the design has gotten me a few commissions in my circle of hags for their own personal Hekate cult statues- I'm working on a design for Hekate Nyktipolos for V and for Nekuya, a Bee Queen spirit statue honoring the spirit of those witches, spirits and souls who work the magic of the bee (in her hands she holds a jug of mead and a hive, she stands on a honey comb and she is positively infested with worker bees. I love doing folk-art for friends, those who know me well know that I take my sweet time and do only what I like, which is why I'm not in business with my art lol, but when I do take commissions, I'm happy to be of service.

Benefits Of Home Education Ii

Benefits Of Home Education Ii
I assume that this series will drag on over the years, the category giving me a place to keep my happy memories of this time in our lives. But before I get to the subjective, peculiar-to-our-family benefits, I want to talk about the benefit I think is generally possible, to varying degrees, for Christian home education projects. I think this benefit has huge, culture-changing, culture-"strengthening" ramifications.

Here's my assertion: A POWERFUL BENEFIT OF HOME EDUCATION IS THE STRENGTHENING OF THE OLDER GENERATIONS. In fact, I would go so far as to say that if we want a culture that is highly educated {in the strict, spiritual sense of the word, not in the standardized-test-passing sense of the word}, firm in conviction, and thriving, you need a large percentage of the population involved in deliberately passing on knowledge to the younger generation.

LOOKING TO HIS WORD

Last night, I was rereading Deuteronomy 6-8. These passages have inspired many a lesson plan here on the microhomestead. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 tends to be popular with Christian homeschoolers in general:

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. There is really so much more than this, if you keep reading, keeping in mind what sort of lifestyle Israel is called to. For instance, in verse 20, the LORD says that once the children are taught in this manner, sons are going to show up asking what it all means. And are the fathers to lecture children on what the meaning is?

No. At least, not exactly.

They are to give a history lesson:

[T]hen you shall say to your son, "We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the LORD brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand. Moreover, the LORD showed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh and all his household; He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers."

-Deuteronomy 6:21-23We are shown that the "meaning" of the LORD's law was found in history, in what He had done, in the works of His hands. This is why learning cannot be viewed as the consumption of various disconnected utilitarian subjects. Truly all things are summed up {} in Christ.

Before this suggestion that history is "the answer" to the question "Why?" we have a warning. The same warning comes again afterwards. The LORD says He is going to bring the people into a good land, and they are going to receive all of these good things: houses, crops, wells, etcetera. They will eat, He says, and they will be "satisfied". In that moment of satisfaction comes the temptation:

...then watch yourself, that you do not forget the LORD who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

-Deuteronomy 6:12In chapter 8, we see the same thing. This time, the LORD gives them a history lesson concerning forty years of wilderness living, manna from heaven, and clothes that did not wear out. He tells them again of the good gifts which will satisfy them. And then comes the warning:

Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today; otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them, and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold multiply, and all that you have multiplies, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

-Deuteronomy 8:11-14We see here a pattern of satisfaction breeding pride, which causes the people to forget God. And how is God forgotten? In not keeping His commands.

GOD'S ANTIDOTE TO MEMORY LOSS

Isn't is interesting that His command to teach the children and talk about Him all day and write about Him on walls, all of "this" is what would not only pass the faith to the next generation, but also help the current generation remember?

I experience this first hand. When a seven-year-old and a five-year-old start arguing over the Trinity, and look to "me" to settle it, suddenly I'm remembering the theology I've been taught. As I pass on the faith, "I myself grow in my faith."

Now, remember, I said that "benefits" are not the same as "reasons for". This is so important, because if I go into this seeking myself, I'd have it all wrong. But as I journey in seeking to do the Lord's will, I find that my children aren't the only ones who have grown.

We get our our growth as a result of feeding and watering someone else.

BUT...THIS IS NOT "MY" EXPERIENCE

Let's say that Molly the Homeschool Mom (an entirely fictional person, to be sure) says that she home educates from a place of conviction. However, comma, she "does not regularly experience growth through the lessons". How in the world might first grade inspire a grownup? That is what baffles Molly the most.

There are a few things possibly going on here.

1. Molly is simply in a hard stage. Life is a valley right now, not a mountain-top, and the family's education, and her own lack of growth, reflects this. What she needs, then, is comfort and support. I get very tired of families being told that they are morally obligated to provide their children with a Christian education, and then no one equips them and no one helps them when they are at the end of their wits. If we do not step in when times are hard, or the task of schooling seems insurmountable, we should not be surprised when some of our children are abandoned back into the public schools.

However, comma, we need to look at the other possibilities.

So...

2. Molly herself was trained by the "traditional" {for the last 100 years, anyhow} school system to be completely unaffected. See John Taylor Gatto's Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling if you want to really understand this "lesson" which the school system in America teaches. In his essay "The Seven-Lesson Schoolteacher" {which is actually a speech given upon being awarded "New York State Teacher of the Year" in 1991}, the third lesson he teaches is indifference. He writes:

I teach children not to care too much about anything...How I do this is very subtle. I do it by demanding that they become totally involved in my lessons, jumping up and down in their seats with anticipation, competing vigorously with each other for my favor. It's heartwarming when they do that; it impresses everyone, even me. When I'm at my best I plan lessons very carefully in order to produce this show of enthusiasm. But when the bell rings I insist they drop whatever it is we have been doing and proceed quickly to the next work station. They must turn on and off like a light switch. Nothing important is ever finished in my class nor in any class I know of. Students never have a complete experience except on the installment plan.

Indeed, the lesson of bells is that no work is worth finishing, so why care too deeply about anything? Years of bells will condition all but the strongest to a world that can no longer offer important work to do.Most of us were taught this lesson for at least thirteen years of our lives. In fact, I spent college learning to "care" about ideas again. Having the type of father I have spared me from complete indifference, for he cares so passionately I fear he may someday burst.

Most of us are damaged goods, and there is a chance that lessons are uninspiring not because there is something wrong with the lessons, but because there is something wrong with "us". We are born into this world naked, true, but gifted with a generous supply of awe and wonder. And then people are paid to trample on it for our entire childhood. The result is a culture of apathy.

This requires nothing short of repentance, and the tutoring of the Holy Spirit, teaching us how to care, and therefore how to really learn.

What if adulthood wasn't meant to be the serious, joyless, "unaffected" life it seems, on the surface, to be?

But there is one more possibility.

3. Molly's lessons or curriculum or whatever she likes to call it are fact-based rather than ideas-based. As she plows through one sanitized textbook after another, she remembers why she hated school, but she tries her best to look excited so that her children don't hate it as much as she did.

I saw this quote on Mystie's blog the other day:

And I think it possible that by confining your child to blameless stories of child life in which nothing at all alarming ever happens, you would fail to banish the terrors, and would succeed in banishing all that can ennoble them or make them endurable. For in fairy tales, side by side with the terrible figures, we find the immemorial comforters and protectors, the radiant ones; and the terrible figures are not merely terrible, but sublime. It would be nice if no little boy in bed, hearing, or thinking he hears, a sound, were ever at all frightened. But if he is going to be frightened, I think it better that he should think of giants and dragons than merely of burglars. And I think St. George, or any bright champion in armour, is a better comfort than the idea of the police.

-C.S. LewisAnd another is like it:

No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally worth reading at the age of fifty.

-C.S. LewisSometimes, curriculum "is" the problem. Unaffected writing leads to the memorization of meaningless dates and names which leads to unaffected hearts. Put the meaning back into the dates and names, and then they will be worth putting in the effort to remember. You will remember the year 1066 and wonder why such a wonderful king {Harold II} would triumph so beautifully at the Battle of Stamford Bridge only to be buried months later at the Battle of Hastings. And then you will have to let go of that anxiety and deal with the fact that it was simply the Lord's will that William the Conqueror...conquer.

Or you will read of the courage of Ambrose {Bishop of Milan in the 300s}, of how he denied Emperor Theodosius communion and the result was not martyrdom, but a beautiful triumph in the soul of the emperor, who repented of his deeds, which led to changes in state policy, and more importantly, a better emperor in general. And then when you read the news and learn that Rep. Patrick Kennedy was encouraged by Bishop Tobin of the Roman Catholic Church to forgo the taking of communion due to his support and encouragement of abortion rights, having more blood on his hands than Theodosius himself, you will take heart that there are still brave bishops somewhere in the world, that the courage and bravery of the great saints is still alive and active in the world today.

And you are raising up yourself and your children to follow in the footsteps of those who went before, the great household of faith and courage and conviction. This, my friends, is nothing less than changing the world.

IN CONCLUSION

I could tell you that Abraham Lincoln said that the "philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of the government of the next," but I'd rather end with the poem that has been hanging on my refrigerator for at least five years now. It is inspired by Wallace's poem "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle", and I would highly suggest reading the original. But this short one is nice, too:

They say that man is mighty,

He governs land and sea,

He wields a mighty scepter

O'er lesser powers than he;

But mightier power and stronger

Man from his throne has hurled,

For the hand that rocks the cradle

Is the hand that rules the world. What we sometimes miss is that it changes the world, because it changes not only our children, but us as well.

Cindy Keeps The Fire Burning Leading

Cindy Keeps The Fire Burning Leading Us Deeper Into America Wounded Core
A House Divided - Will Peace and Justice Break Out or Be Suffocated?

This Last Full Moon on 8/19/05 featured a Libra Stellium an anti-war signal (Venus/SNode/Jupiter and asteroids Pallas and Hygiea) This lineup reflected an increasingly powerful voice for peace and justice and a larger audience. Last Friday's Full Moon aka The Full Sturgeon Moon by Indian tribes - sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. With Cindy's help the Big Fish of the media have been hooked and caught in a net of dialogue about how painfully wrong the Iraq war has evolved. Even the likes of Fox News, MSNBC have to carry Cindy's quotes. Now with Mars in Taurus (rules voice) ruled by Venus - women are weighing in more and getting much more coverage. The Goddess is alive and filled with rage. Not only have the journalists seized on Cindy's vigil at Camp Casey but the Neo Cons have taken the bait and started to create excessively red state venues for sitting duck or is it lame duck? Bush. His last two talks in Salt Lake City and Boise were far from moral majority cakewalks. Coinciding with the president's visits to Salt Lake City and Boise this week, Gold Star Families for Peace (group Cindy Sheehan co-founded) purchased television ads in those cities. Cindy whose Leo Uranus/Venus/Mars is able to grab publicity and attention while uniting families. Finally we have someone who can bridge the gap between military families and intrinsic need for peace (SNode/Jupiter in Libra together on Full Moon) - someone who can simply and innocently accuse Bush lying about his reasons for invading Iraq.

A HOUSE DIVIDED OR VIET NAM WASN'T LIKE THIS

So today the media buzz is about dueling protests and oppositions (Jupiter Libra Oppose N Node Aries). All this energy and hype (Mercury/Leo opposing Neptune/Aquarius)along with about 7,000 protesters all bearing down on sleepy Crawford, TX population 788. This is not like Viet Nam with a clear channel style cross-country caravan for a pro-Bush rally meeting the growing multitude of sincere followers headed to Camp Casey to support an anti-war demonstration led by grieving mother Cindy Sheehan. Tropical Storm Katrina is even trumped in the news by the likes of Howard Kaloogian of a phony org. called "Move America Forward". Howard must think that Cindy is Jane Fonda with remarks like: "And I have a question that I want the media to begin asking Cindy Sheehan: How many more American soldiers are going to die because you are giving hope and encouragement to our enemies? Hey Howard, American soldiers are dead because the Bush/Cheney Cabal wanted to grab Iraq's oil and give into a blood -lust and power corrupted!

COLLECTIVE TEARS, THE US CANCERIAN SPIRIT AND SATURN'S DRAMATIC MOVE IN LEO

First and foremost Cindy is the mother of Casey Sheehan who was killed for no good reason in Iraq read: Aaron Glantz's (an unembedded journalist (not attached to a military unit) description of that fateful day in Baghdad's Sadr City on 4/04/2004.

YES IT IS ABOUT CASEY! Cindy Sheehan has an emotional, nurturing sense of purpose in Cancer and communicative style integrating the weepiness of Mercury in Cancer that tugs at our heart strings. With Saturn newly on the stage in Leo - the drama of Cindy and her son Casey is the perfect metaphor. Sometimes we wonder if Cindy and her opponents are a deflection from talking about global warming and the inside job perpetrated by the Carlyle Crew on 9/11. Cindy may have Sun/Mercury in Cancer but she is not an emotional wet towel with a fiery natal chart dominated by four planets in Leo the goddess of devotional activities:Vesta in Aries conjunct Astrea (goddess of justice). A few words about Vesta in Aries, this endows Cindy with a powerful drive for perfection and a highly independent spirit. Those with Vesta in Aries make sacrifices for causes they believe are important whether humanitarian or spiritual. Perhaps that is why the now famous 60-second ad, in which Sheehan speaks directly to the camera and castigates the president - "You lied to us, and because of your lies, my son died, she says.

AMERICA IS A CANCERIAN COUNTRY WITH A SPONTANEOUS N NODE IN LEO

Just like the willful identity of the US (Sibley Chart inner wheel) Cindy as I explained is not a typical shy Cancerian Crab but really outgoing even with her sensitive emotional, communicative style (Mercury) in Cancer sitting over the US 8th house of secrets, death, debt owed to the nation and foreign investment. Now Cindy doesn't just have Sun/Mercury over this natural house of Scorpio - she has Uranus (trickster and genius) Venus (women, relationships and values) along with Mars (action and impulse). As I have said with the ingress of Saturn in Leo (7/16/05), Mars in Taurus (7/27/05)and soon Jupiter in Scorpio (10/26/05) fixed signs that are persistent and move toward completion dominate our conciousness. It just so happens that the US N Node is at 7 Leo - which symbolizes the creative spontaneous child, playful and carefree - yet with transiting Saturn moving exact conjunction on 9/17/05 - a more serious tone of drama will occur around the Sheehan Saga. There was a time when America was more known for being fun loving, laughing and benevolence even taking on the mantra "it's never too late to have a happy childhood." Saturn in Leo has begun severly dampen much of the innoncence we have all felt as the United State. Yes the "dumb puppy ala Johnny Dep" is reaching maturity and those romantic frivoluous days days have been hijacked by one too many imperialistic wars. Now that secondary progressed N Node sits at 25 Cancer 27 right near the collective tears shed with Cindy and other Gold Star Mothers who must be for peace.

Chiron has opened the national wound to healing with Cindy's natal Chiron sitting at 16 Aquarius trining a midpoint between the Sibly Charts Saturn and Juno in Libra. Speaking of wounds inflicted by past wars on our values and our women, Cindy opens all those dark, power points by aligning with her devoted, pioneering Vesta @16 and fiery Astrea@17 Aries. Both of the previous asteroids hit the secondary progressed venus and chiron at If Cindy's galvinizing the entire movement including Downing Street Memo, impeach Bush, International Answer, Rainbow Coalition and multiple Anti-war contingencies.

Again from the strategic vantage point, Cindy's Pallas @1Taurus which aspects via an easy sextile to progressed Sun in Sibley Chart may account for her ability to heal by laying on of hands. Pallas in Taurus usually is concerned with fighting for the land (Camp Casey donated by Rancher) - earth ecology or land reform. With transiting Mars headed for Cindy's S Node (past life gifts) she will be asked by the enviromental movement to help out.

If those Libra planets can gain momentum before the last week in October, the scales of power may tip toward a world peace movement despite doomsday scenarios.

we may yet see the withdrawl of troops on schedule next year along with the impeachment of GWBush as more light is shed on the Secret Government.
