A Witch's mortar and pestle is a tool used to crush, grind, and mix solid substances like herbs even crystals and stones to mix and blend into healing brews, cream as will as for use in spells and magick. The pestle is a heavy club-shaped object, the end of which is used for crushing and grinding. The mortar is a bowl once made of heavy cast iron is now more typically made of hard wood, ceramic or stone.
The substance to be ground is placed in the mortar and ground, crushed or mixed with the pestle. Sometimes referred to as an "Apothecary Grinder".

The Heavy Cast Iron Pestle is 11 inches long and they are the original set. Both have a wonderful and vintage energy that can be felt when working with this magickal set.
I have only slightly cleaned them since many of the spirit heart believe to clean them to much removes some of the energy held within them. There is some pitting on each piece which is only to be expected with something this old and rare. We believe it dates back to the mid 1700's. No apparent markings can be seen, but the only one I could fine similar to this set was in England and dated to the early 1700's.
