Prayer Goals

Prayer Goals
At the beginning of every year, I like to think about what I'm praying about. As I reflect on the past year and examine all that has occurred and changed in my life, I consider how my prayers should shift. I BELIEVE THAT ALONG WITH ALL OF OUR OTHER GOALS, WE SHOULD ALSO HAVE PRAYER GOALS.

What is a prayer goal? A prayer goal is simply committing to regularly pray for a specific thing, person, situation or issue for the year-or until an answer arrives.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting that we write out a rigid set of prayers goals to which we adhere, and pray about nothing else. That would be foolish. I "am" suggesting it would benefit us to target specific areas in our lives. PERSISTENT, FOCUSED PRAYER BRINGS RESULTS.

HOW DO WE KNOW "WHAT" TO PRAY ABOUT? Think about what's on your mind and heart. What is troubling you? What are your dreams? What one thing about yourself would you change, if you could? Those are good places to start. And remember-you can pray about what to pray about. Ask God to show you what areas in your life to target in prayer this year.

WHAT IF IT'S NOT GOD'S WILL BUT I'M PRAYING FOR IT? I assure you, the time/space continuum will not warp. In my experience, when I pray outside of God's will, one of two things happens: my heart changes so that I change "how" I'm praying, or God clearly convicts me of wrong motives and shows me that this prayer is not His will. That always stops me in my tracks. God is sovereign, and we can trust Him to answer our prayers within the bounds of His will.

HOW SPECIFICALLY, EXACTLY, SHOULD I PRAY? As specific as you can get. I lay it all out to God and include everything I can think of. I make my "specific" requests known to Him. At the same time, I trust God to accomplish "His" plan and purpose in that area or situation-not mine. If the results of my prayer don't match my specific requests, that's okay. God is in control-not me.

For me, one of the benefits of annual prayer goals is having a record of all the prayers God has answered. I recently came across two prayer lists from several years ago, and God had answered every single one...most of them in an radically different way than I expected...but that's a different subject entirely. *grin*

"Pray at all times, on every occasion, in every season, in the Spirit, with all manner of prayer and entreaty." - Ephesians 6:18

How about you? Do you have prayer goals for 2011? Leave a prayer request in the comments and I will pray for you this week.

Enrich Psychic Ability Using A Simple Meditation Technique

Enrich Psychic Ability Using A Simple Meditation Technique

By Tana Hoy

Every person is psychic to some degree. However, not everyone is aware of this fact. All of us are psychic to some extent, but there are those whose psychic powers are stronger than others. It's something like singing, everyone can sing (or at least they think they can), but only some can really sing in tune, and only a chosen few stand out. This also is the case for psychic ability; everyone has it within them, but the strength of the psychic power is not the same for every person.

Have you ever experienced a time when you had a hunch about something and then it came true? This is one simple example of psychic ability. Psychic ability is connected to strong intuition. Although intuition defies our logic and reasoning, intuition is our natural ability. But then, your "gut feel" isn't right all the time. This is because your intuitive skills are still weak, and your psychic ability needs to be developed more.

Psychic ability can be enhanced in many ways. There are a number of methods and tools used to develop psychic ability. In the many psychic ability enhancement techniques, the concept of meditation plays a crucial role.

By definition, meditation is a process in which an individual seeks to achieve a higher state of consciousness. However, there is big misconception that meditation is a technique. The real thing is, meditation is a way of life and the foundation to develop and hone your psychic ability.

To hone your psychic ability, you must be ready to accept your innate power with an open mind. A psychic does this by meditating regularly. Well focused meditation grants a person a peaceful haven that enhances consciousness. Once your mind enters a meditative trance, your subconscious mind is allowed to think freely and convey its thoughts. Other people refer to meditation as a process to seek a heightened sense of awareness; which is the characteristic you need for you to develop your psychic ability.

Meditation is a form of mental discipline, and it is essential for developing psychic ability. Using meditation to enrich your psychic ability is not a hard task. Though the steps are simple, the practice requires utmost diligence and dedication to put the ideal in daily practice. Here are simple steps how you can meditate to develop your psychic ability:

1. Finding time to meditate on a daily basis

2. Find the most conducive environment for meditation

3. Sit on the ground with a straight back

4. Keep your eyes half closed

5. Breathe deep

6. Relaxing every muscle

7. Attention must be kept in focus

8. Silence the mind

A psychic ability is an outstanding blessing, and every person should take the opportunity to develop his or her extraordinary gift. Everyone is capable to unleash the full potential of their psychic ability if they are given the right foundation and proper guidance. Take note that the key to develop your psychic ability starts with the right state of mind - knowing what you want, how much you want it, and doing everything to get it.

Pre Worship Prayers

Pre Worship Prayers
We're going to have to look seriously at cutting out the pre-worship devotions.

It all started when someone said "let's have a time of prayer before the main Ceremony each day." Seemed a good idea - those of us who would be leading could seek blessing on the time that lay before us, and could seek to have our hearts and minds directed for our duties.

And it worked quite well for a while. In fact it got quite popular. First it was just the druids, but then the musicians pointed out they would appreciate it. And given the way they sound, none of us were going to deny them the power of prayer. And then the pourers-out and fillers-up of beakers wanted to prepare themselves spiritually. Soon there were ten or more people attending. And our informal, spontaneous praying style could get a bit chaotic with that many around. So to bring some order to things, we put the person responsible for leading the pre-worship prayers down on the rota, and that structured things.

But then the people that lead the pre-worship prayers decided they needed a time of spiritual preparation - it was quite challenging, now so many people were getting involved. So they set aside a time for pre-pre-worship prayers contemplation. But it was a bit quiet so they started asking their friends along to join them.

But their friends quite enjoyed it, so a few of them started attending before every pre-worship prayer meeting. And it all started getting a little unstructured, with so many of them. So they had to appoint somebody to lead it. And then they realised they needed some pre-pre-pre-worship prayers contemplation devotions.

But that was so quiet and still, without the kids and the trouble-makers and the late-comers. So people started attending the pre-pre-pre-worship prayers devotions. So it needed a bit of preparation.

Cutting a long story to just quite long, eventually a book was produced. The "Wee pre-pre-pre-pre-worship prayers contemplation devotions worship book". A book with not much content but a huge cover.

Look, everyone's now having to get up at 5am every morning. The main Occasions are getting later and later. And then we've got the problem of the post-formal ceremonies worship, and the prayer meeting after that to give thanks for how we've been blessed. And everyone's really shattered because they daren't not show up at every pre- and post-worship event in case they're considered lightweights. So all pre-worship preparations and post-worship worship sessions are henceforth banned.

Now maybe we can all get some sleep.

How To Use Guided Loving Kindness Meditation

How To Use Guided Loving Kindness Meditation
If you know anything at all about the Buddhist philosophy, most probably you have heard about the GUIDED LOVING MEDITATION before.

Experience the power of Meditation with Yoga Divinity

This is a practice that has been passed down for the last 2,500 years in an unbroken line.

People are often told that they are supposed to love others, but how do they do this?

INFORMATION ABOUT THE GUIDED MEDITATION OF LOVING KINDNESS

People can't love others if they don't love themselves. Based on this, the meditation teaches us to love ourselves so that we will be able to share this love with the people around us. The main point is to cultivate positive emotional states in order to become more patient, accepting, kind and compassionate.

As a result of the meditation and loving kindness people will experience compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity. This refers to the patient acceptance of suffering and joy, both for us and for others. Compassion is one of the most important components of Buddhism.

KINDNESS

When set on trying guided loving meditation you should know that even the Dalai Lama said that his true religion is kindness. It indicates that the practice is profound. In many cases people wish to be happy at the expense of others.

If they aren't practicing the loving kindness practice, people won't understand that if they are in pursuit of happiness but they want to achieve it through causing pain to others, they will only cause pain to themselves. Buddhism shows us that the only way to be truly happy is to empathize with others.

According to the guided loving meditation people will reach true happiness when they are able to see and experience the joy and pain of others as their own. This doesn't mean that we have to become martyrs and to set aside our needs.

BEING GOOD

If you follow the practice of loving kindness you will do your best to help others meet their goals and be happy, so a layer of self-induced pain will disappear. As a result, by becoming more empathetic you will be able to be happier through the happiness of others.

The truth is that the GUIDED LOVING MEDITATION is quite deep and not all people are able to understand it or follow it. However, you could follow some parts of it, by trying to become more empathetic with the people around you and stimulating them to do the same.

Saint Louis De Montforts Prayer To Jesus

Saint Louis De Montforts Prayer To Jesus
77 GRACES AND FRUITS TO BE DERIVED FROM DEVOUT ATTENDANCE AT HOLY MASS From "Cochem's Explanation of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass"
by Father Martin von Cochem (1625-1712)
Imprimatur, Michael Augustin, Archbishop of New York, June 24, 1818

TRADITIO Traditional Roman Catholic Internet Site
E-mail List: traditio@traditio.com, Web Page:
whenever Holy Mass is celebrated.

7. For thy salvation he performs on the altar the same act of worship He performed when on earth.

8. For thy salvation He renews His bitter passion in order that thou mayest participate in it.

9. For thy salvation He mystically renews His death, and sacrifices for Thee His precious life.

10. For thy salvation He sheds His blood in a mystic manner, and offers it up for thee to the Divine Majesty.

11. With this Precious Blood He sprinkles thy soul and purifies it from every stain.

12. For thee Christ offers Himself as a true burnt-offering, and renders to the Godhead the supreme honor which it is due.

13. By offering this act of worship to God, thou dost make reparation for the glory which thou hast failed to give Him.

14. For thee Christ offers Himself to God as a sacrifice of praise, thus atoning for thy omissions in praising His Holy Name.

15. By offering to God this oblation which Christ offers, thou givest Him greater praise than do the Holy Angels.

16. For thee Christ offers Himself as a perfect sacrifice of
thanksgiving, making compensation for all failures on thy part to render thanks.

17. By offering to God Christ's act of thanksgiving, thou dost make ample acknowledgment of all the benefits He had bestowed on thee.

18. For thee Christ offers Himself as the all powerful victim,
reconciling thee to the God Whom thou hast offended.

19. He pardons thee for all thy venial sins, provided thou art firmly resolved to forsake them.

20. He also makes repartition for many of thy sins of omission, when thou didst leave undone the good thou mightest have done.

21. He removes many of the imperfections attaching to thy good deeds.

22. He forgives thee the sins, unknown or forgotten, which thou hast never mentioned in confession.

23. He offers Himself as a victim to make satisfaction for a part at least of thy debts and transgressions.

24. Each time thou hearest Mass thou canst do more to pay the penalty due to thy sins than by the severest work of penance.

25. Christ places to thy credit a portion of His merits, which thou mayest offer to God the Father in expiation of thy offences.

26. For thee Christ offers Himself as the most efficacious peace
-offering, interceding for thee as earnestly as He interceded for His enemies on the cross.

27. His Precious Blood pleads for thee in words as countless as the drops which issued from His sacred veins.

28. Each of the adorable wounds His sacred body bore is a voice calling aloud for mercy for thee.

29. For the sake of this propitiatory victim, the petitions proffered during Mass will be granted far sooner than those that are proffered at other times.

30. Never canst thou pray so well as whilst present at Mass.

31. This is so because Christ unites His prayers to thine, and offers them to His heavenly Father.

32. He acquaints Him with thy needs and dangers to which thou art
exposed, and makes thy eternal salvation His particular concern.

33. The angels also, who are present, plead for thee, and present thy poor prayers before the throne of God.

34. On thy behalf the priest says Mass, by virtue of which the evil enemy will not be suffered to approach thee.

35. For thee and for thy everlasting salvation he says Mass, and offers that holy sacrifice to God Almighty.

36. When thou hearest Mass, thou art thyself in spirit a priest,
enpowered by Christ to offer the Mass both for thyself and others.

37. By offering this Holy Sacrifice, thou dost present to the Blessed Trinity the most acceptable of all oblations.

38. Thou dost offer an oblation precious indeed, of greater value than all things in heaven and earth.

39. Thou dost offer an oblation precious indeed, for it is none other than God himself.

40. By this sacrifice thou does honor God as He alone is worthy to be honored.

41. By this sacrifice thou dost give infinite satisfaction to the Most Holy Trinity.

42. Thou mayest present this glorious oblation as thine own gift, for Christ Himself gave it unto thee.

43. When thou hearest Mass aright, thou dost perform an act of highest worship.

44. By hearing Mass thou dost pay the most profound reverence, the most loyal homage, to the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord.

45. It is best means whereby to venerate the Passion of Christ, and obtain a share in its fruits.

46. It is also the best means of venerating the blessed Mother of God, and increasing her joy.

47. By hearing Mass, thou canst also enrich thy soul more than aught else in the world.

48. By hearing Mass devoutly, thou canst give greater honor to the
angels and the saints than by reciting many prayers.

49. For this in act thou dost perform a good work of the highest value.

50. It is a signal exercise of pure faith, which will receive a great reward.

51. When thou dost bow down before the Sacred Host and the Sacred
Chalice, thou doest perform a supreme act of adoration.

52. For each time thou doest gaze reverently upon the Sacred Host thou wilt receive a recompense in heaven.

53. Each time thou dost smite thy breast with compunction, some of thy sins are remitted to thee.

54. If thou hearest Mass in a state of mortal sin, God offers thee grace of conversion.

55. If thou hearest Mass in a state of grace, God gives augmentation of grace.

56. In Holy Mass thou doest spiritually eat the flesh of Christ, and drink His blood.

57. Thou art privileged to behold with thine eyes Christ hidden under the sacramental veil, and to be beheld by Him.

58. Thou dost receive the priest's benediction, which is confirmed by Christ in heaven.

59. Through thy diligence in hearing Mass, thou wilt also obtain
corporal and temporal blessings.

60. Furthermore, thou wilt be preserved from many misfortunes that would otherwise have vanquished thee.

61. Thou wilt also be strengthened against temptations which would have otherwise have vanquished thee.

62. Holy Mass will also be to thee a means of obtaining grace of a holy death.

63. The love thou hast shown for Holy Mass wilt secure for thee the special succor of angels and saints in thy last moments.

64. The remembrance of the Masses heard in thy lifetime will be a sweet solace to thee in the hour of death, and inspire thee with confidence in the divine mercy.

65. They will not be forgotten when thou dost stand before the strict Judge and will incline Him to show thee favor.

66.Thou needest not a fear a long and terrible Purgatory if thou hast already to a great extent atoned for thy sins by frequently assisting at Holy Mass.

67. One Mass devoutly heard will do more to mitigate the pains of
Purgatory than any act of penance, however difficult of performance.

68. One Mass in thy lifetime will be of greater service to thee than many said for thee after death.

69. Thou wilt attain a high place in heaven, which will be thine to all eternity.

70. Thy felicity in heaven will, moreover be increased by every Mass thou hearest on earth.

71. No prayers offered for thy friends will be as efficacious as a
single Mass heard and offered on their behalf.

72. Thou canst amply recompense all thy benefactors by hearing Mass for their intention.

73. The best help, the greatest consolation, thou canst afford the
afflicted, the sick, the dying is to hear Mass for them.

74. By this same means thou canst even obtain for sinners the grace of conversion.

75. Thou canst also earn for all faithful Christians saving and salutary graces.

76. For the suffering souls in Purgatory thou canst procure abundant refreshment.

77. And if it is not within thy power to have Mass said for thy departed friends, thou canst by devout assistance at the Holy Sacrifice release them from the tormenting flames.

What dost now think of the Holy Mass, O Christian? Can it be supposed that in the whole world there is any other good work whereby so many graces and fruits are placed within our reach? It is no longer possible to question the truth of the words of Father Sanchez: "If Christians only knew how to profit by Holy Mass, they might acquire greater riches than are to be found in all things God has created." We have indeed a precious storehouse in the Mass: happy he who can earn treasures so great at the cost of so little labor! Who would willingly miss Mass?
Who would not delight in hearing it? Let us resolve never to lose an opportunity of hearing Mass, provided the duties of our state of life do not prevent us from doing so.

To omit hearing Mass merely from carelessness or indolence would be proof that we were either ignorant of, or indifferent to, the divine treasures it contains. God grant that those who read this may in future appreciate more fully this pearl of great price, value it more highly, seek it more diligently. Ponder this.

When You Fast

When You Fast
The image above spells out the Lenten regulations for the diocese of New York in 1887; it comes from the New York Times' archives, and can be found here. It's pretty neat to think that the New York Times used to publish the diocese's fasting regulations for each year, isn't it?

And the rules were sometimes varied. For instance, in 1915 there is mention of an indult dating from 1895 which exempted working people and their families from days of abstinence (but not fast days) other than Ash Wednesday, Fridays, Holy Week and Christmas Eve; another indult is mentioned which exempts working people from fasting as well. In an earlier article mention is made of a wide dispensation from fasting rules for various diocese dealing with influenza; in fact, an article from 1890 mentions that the pope was requiring no more than the ordinary Advent regulations because of influenza, and was instead recommending that the faithful apply themselves to works of charity during Lent. During other times, notably World War II, fasting regulations were likewise relaxed in many places.

Of course, every year various people were already exempt from the fast, as the article above lists: pregnant and nursing mothers, the ill, infirm or elderly, those who are "attaining their growth" (children), and those whose duties were "...of an exhausting or laborious character." The specifics in regard to what kinds of infirmities or illnesses exempted one, or how old children had to be when they were obliged to fast, or what exactly constituted duties "of an exhausting or laborious character" were presumably spelled out by one's own pastor in cases of uncertainty.

Why mention any of this? I find it is rather fascinating to take a look back at the past, and to see the various ways in which the rules for Lenten fasting and abstinence could change from time to time. Though the rules were certainly stricter than they are now, there were many times and reasons in which a person might be completely exempt from following them.

But no one was ever truly exempted from participating in the penitential character of Lent. Anyone who wasn't bound by the laws of fasting was still encouraged to make voluntary sacrifices or acts of penance, to remember the Church's call to give alms, and to engage in charitable works in the community.

Sometimes in the Catholic blogging world I will see expressed the notion that the Church ought never to have relaxed the rules for the Lenten fast. Those who think this way appear to think that the Church's rules regarding fasting and abstinence kept whole generations of Catholics in line, kept them physically and spiritually fit, capable of great and heroic feats of endurance. Without the stringent fasting rules, goes the argument, Catholics got soft, weak, and lazy; all the ills of modernity swiftly followed, in a classic post hoc ergo propter hoc construction.

But when I read the Apostolic Constitution of Pope Paul VI titled Paenitemini I see, not weakness or laziness, but both the appeal to freedom and a great deal of mercy. See, for instance, this section:

In the first place, Holy Mother Church, although it has always observed in a special way abstinence from meat and fasting, nevertheless wants to indicate in the traditional triad of "prayer-fasting-charity" the fundamental means of complying with the divine precepts of penitence. These means were the same throughout the centuries, but in our time there are special reasons whereby, according to the demands of various localities, it is necessary to inculcate some special form of penitence in preference to others.(60) Therefore, where economic well-being is greater, so much more will the witness of asceticism have to be given in order that the sons of the Church may not be involved in the spirit of the "world,"(61) and at the same time the witness of charity will have to be given to the brethren who suffer poverty and hunger beyond any barrier of nation or continent.(62) On the other hand, in countries where the standard of living is lower, it will be more pleasing to God the Father and more useful to the members of the Body of Christ if Christians-while they seek in every way to promote better social justice-offer their suffering in prayer to the Lord in close union with the Cross of Christ.

Therefore, the Church, while preserving-where it can be more readily observed-the custom (observed for many centuries with canonical norms) of practicing penitence also through abstinence from meat and fasting, intends to ratify with its prescriptions other forms of penitence as well, provided that it seems opportune to episcopal conferences to replace the observance of fast and abstinence with exercises of prayer and works of charity.

The purpose of restricting the days of obligatory fasting to Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, and of making abstinence from meat mandatory only during Lent, I think, was not to remove the penitential character from Lent, but to encourage those in wealthier countries to do more than fast from food, while removing from those already living in poverty any sense of being obliged to participate in fasting.

That those of us in more affluent countries have, by and large, failed to give witness against the spirit of the world by our acts of voluntary penance during Lent is our failure, not the Church's. That those who live in poorer countries no longer have to worry about sinning when they must eat at odd times during the day in Lent because food is available then, or because their daily work does not permit normal mealtime pauses, is still a mercy. That the scrupulous need not fear the forty days of Lent as a grueling journey in which every passing thought of a good meal haunts them as a grave sin is also a great mercy.

So instead of grumbling that the Church no longer demands that our neighbor subsist on one full meal a day for forty days, we ought to take some time to reflect, instead, on what the Church is inviting us to do. Perhaps the traditional fast is something our work and station in life makes not only possible but a joyful possibility; perhaps our tendency toward mild hypoglycemia makes our fasting a greater (involuntary) penance for those around us then for us, personally; perhaps we are being called to fast from something other than food, something that has gotten in the way of our relationship with God; perhaps there are luxuries and daily "treats" we have become accustomed to indulge ourselves with, and to diminish with these things the dreariness of the winter months. If we truly wish to respond generously to the invitation of the Church to make all but Ash Wednesday and Good Friday days of voluntary instead of obligatory fasting, we will discover what it is we can with the greatest generosity set aside and give up for these forty days.

As Pope Paul VI said in Paenitemini, fasting which is only external is not what the Church really wants of us; nor does she wish us to become mired in what His Holiness called "formalism and pharisaism." Rather, the external acts, united with prayer and works of charity and oriented toward inner conversion, are to be embraced as a necessary step in the pursuit of holiness. As we approach this Lenten season we may be surprised by the generosity and love the Holy Spirit will inspire in us, so that we may experience Lent as a time of purification.

Witch Wars For The Love Of Power

Witch Wars For The Love Of Power
From Witchvox article Witch Wars - For The Love of Power by Fritz:

(The love of power.) Without a doubt, this is the key element of many a Witch War.

This type of leader wields a mighty athame over the local community and, of course, his/her own group of followers and fans. They have their own P.R. kit. It's free. Take one. You'll pay for everything else! A good measure as to whether a group is exhibiting "cult like behavior" can be found via The Advanced Bonewits' Cult Danger Evaluation Frame. A typical cult hierarchy is as follows.

THE LEADER: This "figure head" (usually self-proclaimed) builds up his/her "power base" and is ready to take on the world if and when they are questioned by the community. You're talking about their precious reputation here! No dissent allowed! His/her power source typically includes the following subservients.

THE INNER CIRCLE: Their mission is to serve and protect-the Leader, that is. The inner circle has everything to gain by keeping their leader's name in a favorable light. This is often a full time job. If He/She looks good, so do they. This can only increase their own power and worth in the group. Let's not forget that the inner circle members hope someday to be the next in line to lead or "carry on the agenda".

THE FOLLOWERS/FANS: The depth of any group is dependent on the numbers of its followers or fans. The fans are often proud of their affiliation with the group and happy just to be involved. They'll do anything just to be able to say that they met or know this leader personally. This group often exists to feed the ego of the Leader and his/her inner circle. They also provide a nice buffer zone in case things get "sticky".

Does a group like this believe that they are doing wrong? Almost NEVER! They would say they what they are doing is correct and for the good of all. This is the heart of the problem.

Cast the circle with the athame, saying

'I conjure thee, o circle of art,

to be a temple between the worlds;

to be a crucible of change for the powers of the ancient ones.

Wherefore do I bless and consecrate thee.

So mote it be!'

TOUCH THE SALT WITH THE ATHAME AND SAY

'"Mighty Mother, bless this creature of earth in thy service. As salt is pure, so may it purify us in all ways we may use it."'

Consecrate the water by adding three pinches of salt and saying

'"Mighty Mother, bless this creature of water in thy service. As water gives us life, so may we be reborn in these rites."'

CONSECRATE THE FIRE BY HOLDING ALOFT AND SAYING

'"Great Father, bless this creature of fire in thy service. May it spark the sacred flame the burns within our hearts."'

Consecrate the incense by adding three pinches of incense to the fire and saying

'"Great Father, bless this creature of air in thy service. May it carry our will out upon the winds of change."'

Spurge the circle with the holy water, saying

'I consecrate this circle in the names of Cernunnos and Aradia.

From the realms of Spring,

as we here possess breath and wit

we are thy kith and kin!

To the blaze upon the hearth

From the gates of Noontide

From the realms of Summer

as we here consume life to live

we are thy kith and kin!

Come join us

to attend our rite and guard the circle'

facing west, draw the Invoking Pentagram of Earth in the air with the athame, saying

'I call the Lords of the Watchtowers of the West, Lords of Water

Lengthening shadow across the mountain,

gathering coolness of the evening glen,

first star of the twilight.

From the gates of Evening

From the realms of Autumn

as we here feel and our hearts beat

we are thy kith and kin!

Come join us

to attend our rite and guard the circle'

facing north, draw the Invoking Pentagram of Earth in the air with the athame, saying

'I call the Lords of the Watchtowers of the North, Lords of Earth

brilliant darkness, sun at midnight,

gossamer flicker of aurora's light.

From the gates of Midnight

From the realms of Winter

as we here have bodies and strength

we are thy kith and kin!

Come join us

to attend our rite and guard the circle'

And ride as one the twin-horsed chariot.

Let the lightning touch the earth!

Let the Lance ensoul the Grail!

Let the magic come to birth!'

Saint Sophronios Of Jerusalem

Saint Sophronios Of Jerusalem As A Model For Our Lives
St. Sophronios of Jerusalem (Feast Day - March 11)

By Protopresbyter Fr. George Papavarnavas

The season of Holy and Great Lent we are experiencing is a time of repentance, fasting, prayer and spiritual struggles. It is an arena of the virtues for anyone who wants to approach it freely, to compete spiritually, without anyone forcing them. "The arena of the virtues has opened; those who desire to compete may enter, girding themselves with the good struggle of fasting". Fasting, when accompanied by prayer, is the most powerful weapon against the devil, the enemy of human salvation, ("this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting"), but also a source of heavenly gifts, ("through fasting, vigils and prayer we receive heavenly gifts").

True fasting means abstinence not only from food, but "to control the tongue, to alienate the passions, to forbear from anger, to abstain from lust, slander, falsehood and perjury." The abstinence of food and so-called adult carnal misconduct is perhaps the easiest struggle. But effort against harder things is needed, such as condemnation, envy, slander, etc. The Prophet David pleaded with God to keep him from slander, in order to fulfill His commandments: "Redeem me from the slander of men and I will keep Your commandments."

Fasting that is "true and pleasing" to God is as we mentioned above, and "to alienate the passions" means to transform the passions, to be healed of the passions. Human passions are nothing else but the unnatural operation of the powers of the soul, namely the intelligent, the incensive and the desiring. The virtues are the natural movements of the powers of the soul. For example, when anger operates according to nature then it turns against the devil and sin, but when it is against nature it turns against other people, even against this creation, such as animals, plants, etc. The intelligent part of the soul in its natural state turns to God, and the desiring wants everything that is pleasing to God. Otherwise it is directed against the will of God and is enslaved to the devil and created things. The therapy of the powers of the soul, or their restoration to their natural operation takes place with abstinence, prayer and love. Maximus the Confessor says to us: "The incensive part of the soul is restrained by love, the desiring is withered by temperance and the intelligent is given wings by prayer. Thus the light of the nous is never darkened."

Saints are those who have purified their vessels, who have transformed their passions and attained from the image to the likeness of God and have seen God. They are full of the Holy Spirit and their words are "words of eternal life". They are the champions of spiritual athletics and true models of the athletes of the spirit. One of these was Saint Sophronios, whose memory is celebrated during this period. He lived in temperance and wisdom from a young age, and later also when he became a Monk in the Monastery of Saint Theodosius the Cenobiarch. He became Archbishop of Jerusalem "due to his abundant virtues", as Saint Nikodemos the Hagiorite says, and he shepherded his flock in an Orthodox ascetic and sacrificial ethos that distinguished him. He was a man of the spirit in the true sense. That is, he was full of the Grace of the Holy Spirit. He acquired spiritual eyes, or rather he purified his nous, which is the eye of the soul, and he saw God, which is why he was able to lead his flock unerringly. According to the expression of the author of the Great Canon, he was a "nous that beheld God".

When Jerusalem was captured by the Persians, he was given hospitality in Alexandria by his friend Saint John the Merciful, and when he "departed to the Lord" he wrote a funeral discourse in his honor and "was very saddened by his passing". The saints have a pure and soft hearts. They truly love and weep for their loved ones, like Christ wept for his friend Lazarus. But they do not grieve "as those who have no hope", but as having hope in eternal life, since they are crucified and resurrected and taste the kingdom of heaven in this present life. Here we should mention that he wrote among other things also the wondrous life of she who was equal to the angels, the venerable Mary of Egypt.

Through the intercessions of the wise Saint Sophronios, may God grant us a "spirit of wisdom, humility, patience and love", as well as a zest and appetite for spiritual struggles.

Imbolc February

Imbolc February 2

IMBOLC

February 2

-
I mbolc (im-bulk), meaning "in the belly", is also known as Oiemelc or "ewes milk" and celebrates the first lactation of the ewes, siginifying the beginning of the lambing season and considered by ancient agrarian cultures as the first sign of the coming spring. This is the time of the year when our days are becoming visibly longer as the Sun spends more and more time in the sky, and the first faint touches of Spring's greenery begin to show. It is a time of beginnings, a time when the first fields are plowed and prepared for the planting.

In many cultures this is also traditionally a time when signs are sought to fortell the next season's bounty. Most popular among these in Western culture is waiting to see if a snake or a groundhog,(both animals which hybernate during cold winters,) would leave their winter den, thereby predicting the length of the remaining Winter. Today we light a candle in every room in the house to chase away the darkness of winter anticipating the warmth of Spring. We cleanse and decorate our altars with the seasons first growth.

This day is Sacred, particularly to the Goddess Bride (Brid, Brigid, Brighid, Brigit, depending on your tradition), the Goddess of Smithcraft, Poetry, Magick, Fire and Light. In some traditions a dolly representing the Goddess is made from the seasons first greenery and carried by the family's youngest maiden from house to house to receive the blessings of the community. That evening, a basket is prepared called the Bride's bed. The dolly is placed in the basket and a white wand is placed in her hand. The basket is then set on the previously smoothed ashes of the hearth until morning. The next day if the ashes are disturbed the Goddess has blessed the house with prosperity for the coming warmer months. If the ashes are not disturbed, it was taken to mean that the Goddess was offended, and an offering must be buried in the ground where two streams meet.

The Wheel turns, and the Sun is gaining strength, as the young God keeps pace. The Goddess renews herself at the Well of Eternal Life, casting aside all memory of the Darkness of Winter, and is once again the Young Maiden. She is again wild and free, cavorting and playing through the budding growth of creation with the God, both of them full of the energy and potential of Life.

Energy

Energy
Whenever we work magic in order to change things around us, the power of will is nothing more than us directing energy towards the universe in order to construct that in which we desire from a spell. For us to understand these changes, we must be aware of what Energy means.

"THE HUMAN BODY IS AN ENERGY SYSTEM... WHICH IS NEVER A COMPLETE STRUCTURE; NEVER STATIC; IS IN PERPETUAL INNER SELF CONSTRUCTION AND SELF DESTRUCTION; WE DESTROY IN ORDER TO MAKE IT NEW..."- NORMAN O BROWN, "LOVE'S BODY"

The word ENERGY evokes images of power lines and outlets, or your metabolism, or a person running and being all hyper. However, the energy around us flows through an invisible web that connects us all to each other. A witch needs to become sensitive to that flow of energy; connecting through the channels and let it flow through you is the only sure way that your magic will work effectively. Even though we - as living things - are filled with energy (personal energy), we must also use the energy around us so that our own personal stach does not weaken and thus bring the body to an unhealthy state.

There are many forms of energy, being the one which is visible to us the most common (like a rainbow in the sky after a rainy day, or the light that the moon brushes out). As I've stated before, personal energy is the energy that we have in our bodies, the one that makes us go round and round. Metabolism, nerve impulses, body heat, all those count as personal energy. In order for the body to stay healthy, this energy has to be in perfect balance within.

The Earth energies are the ones we connect to when we are in ritual. It is the energy of the planet, the one that gives birth to all living things. It has been called mana or shakti kundalini. Avobe the Earth is the energy of the sky, the energy of the Sun and stars. Then we have the divine energy. This kind of energy is the one that does not belong to the polarity of Earth and Sky. It's pure divine energy, what we call unconditional love, used to create sacred spaces and rituals. The energy that is all loving, all knowing, beyond all good and evil.

During ritual, the things we use during our encounter with the God/Goddess is a symbol of an energy that exists on another plane. How well we understand the representation of such symbols and the energy that they carry is how efficient our magic can be. In order to bring through this divine energy, a circuit of communication must be set up in the form of visualization, symbols, ritual, and meditation. To keep the energy from dissipating, we use the magic circle.

Kundalini Life Force Energy

Kundalini Life Force Energy
Kundalini life force energy, also called Holy Spirit, Pranic energy, Chi, or Shakti, is often depicted as a snake in many shamanic and religious traditions, including Christianity. The story of Eve being tempted by the serpent to eat the apple is really about biting fully into life and embodying the wisdom of the Gods, which we have the right to do because we are their children. Life force energy is like a serpent that uncoils up our spine and opens up our minds, bodies, hearts and spirits, connecting them with divine source, vibrating and shaking out anything that needs to go. It is only dangerous to the ego mind and if you hold on too tightly it can be very painful. But if you can let go of ego attachments day by day and surrender to source and open your heart all will be well. I have had many kundalini awakenings, some gentle, some not so gentle. When the great snake comes she is claiming you. When she sinks her fangs into you, you are hers and there is no turning back. If you are interested in learning more about Kundalini and the Serpent energy, check out my Anubis Oracle Deck or my Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt book read about Wadjet. She is the great Kundalini Mother serpent who destroys ignorance and greed and shakes us up so we can move towards our divine purpose. You can follow the rituals in the book to help you on your way. You can get a free reading from the Anubis Oracle at www.anubisoracle.com.

God Love

God Love
Continues from previous...

god prayer by heart, love is god, god love is the ultimate science, where god lives, god lives in hearts,

Till Today you have groomed and kindered in many a family in each of your innumerable births. Every time, a blow of death deprived you of all your kith and kin. Therefore it is initial time to you to get rid of the attachment towards your family.

If you have a wish for prestige, if you liked the body to be respected, this will surely be a big difficulty on your spiritual path. Throw away all these attachment which you have towards your body. Became like innocent child. You have been taking good care of this body for a long time. You have been giving it a bath, feeding it, taking it on excursions; but-but this body kept complainingand complaining. It always complained of ailments, of insomnia, of joint pains, of headache, of indigestion and so on. You have already had enough ofservility towards your body. Now just look toward the end of the body's journey in this world. How long will you treat this body as 'I', dear friends! With a firm heart and cool mind, visualize that your body going towards the end. It sits on a chair. Now it is lookingat the wonderful beauty of the sea. Suddenly you got a stroke, which proves to be fatal for you. Your head hanged down. You are dead now...Or at home, you had headache, a stomach-ache, or a fever. And you dead. Or visualize, you went to stupor whileengaged in writing something. Your heart got fail. And you are dead now. Or visualize, youwere engaged in 'worship'. Suddenly, you lost balance and lay down on theground. You called your friends or your wife or other family members. They all comeand asked, 'what happened ?...what happened?' In a matter of few minutes you passedaway... Or visualize you were walking in the street. Suddenly there was amishap take place. And you died. Definitely, your death must come in some guise or the other. You will not even know. Therefore, rehearse your last journey before you are forcedto undertake one of above mentioned or any other; experience about the death before it actually comes; visualize your final travelling.
