Wow, it's been such a busy year, we've accomplished so much! Usually this is the week that I would be compiling the Firefly annual recap of achievements and creating our usual end of year video. With all that was done in 2012 that would be something that would take pages to discuss. Instead, I write today about some changes to what everyone knows as The Firefly House.
We want to preface this by saying that yes, there is a personal undercurrent to the current changes that are propelling us to move forward. However, I don't feel it's my place to share them as they involve the personal life of the tradition's founder. So respectfully, I ask that no one approach looking for gossip or other such things. None of that will happen here. This post is for our members (and supporters of the House) to have clarity and information about what's happening and what our plan is. The only statements we're sharing here are those details essential to our explanation.
In short, our friend Iris Firemoon no longer exists and is distancing herself from the Pagan community for good. We wish her luck as she has a new family that will undoubtedly require a lot of attention. Sometimes people change faiths or give it up altogether, and it's no one's place to hold judgment over that. That being said, this crisis of faith spurred some reactions that we're working to heal. The main point of information is to know that since Iris is no longer Pagan, she would like to dismantle the entire establishment of Firefly as a tradition, disbanding everything associated with it. Some may have noticed that our Facebook page and Meetup went down, and then were deleted. This is why.
Obviously, it is disturbing to think that one person would want to abolish an entire tradition because they no longer wished to participate. The Firefly House has covens, solitary practitioners, and ministers all over the country (and even in other countries). Taking the House down would no-doubt put a serious hurdle before the ministers and their ability to serve their community. So much has been built from so many of us over the years.
In an emergency reaction to this news, Coven of the Spiral Moon met to discuss a plan. For those who don't know, CSM is the main organizing body of Firefly in our local area. Myself and Phoenix Darkmoon lead the coven and have been in the prime leadership role of all things locally Firefly since Iris stepped down last year and passed the torch. CSM and its 5 initiates are considered the "inner circle" that steers the direction of our Meetup locally. All members of CSM are full initiates and have been working together in this process. There is an old ex-member using these changes to say that this is all of my own doing. I won't give more attention to that individual as you can clearly read here that's not the case.
When CSM met to discuss the troubling situation, we determined that Firefly as a tradition and spiritual practice must live on. There are simply too many people who are growing positively from our work who we cannot abandon. People are learning about how magick can heal their lives, create peace in the world, and improve their commitment to joy and inner strength. We want to continue to service in that spirit. Thus, the below bullets highlight the basic extent of our plan to ensure the survival of the tradition:
1.The inconvenient situation is that the person formerly known as Iris Firemoon has sole legal control of the church as an entity as well as the old meetup group which was already deleted. This was clearly a hole in the tradition that will be rectified moving forward as no one person should have complete control of an organization's assets. The only thing CSM can do to save that is to start a "new" organization, under a similar banner, maintaining the current egregore, or current of energy that we have built up. The next points will clarify how we're going to do that.
2.Although we have to technically create a new organization to continue our work, we are calling it "The Firefly House." There's no reason to use a different name when all of the same people are coming along and the parameters of our tradition and its structure are not changing. After all, how many "First Baptist Church's" are there in any given town?
3.We have to give up the use of a few things that Iris personally owns to ensure we're in a healthy legal state. Thus, we will be creating a new logo, new bylaws, and revising the content explaining our degree system. Again, nothing about our structure is changing, except for the Virginia-based entity itself that Iris owns.
4.The "old" Firefly house was a legal tax-exempt church, of which myself and many others are ministers of. Obviously, dismantling that church puts a stop to some of the things our ministers can do, such as sign marriage licenses. To fix that, we'll eventually be filing with the state of Maryland as a church again. We will recognize the credentials of all ministers previously ordained through the old Firefly House, along with all degrees and former positions. Approving the church as an entity will take some time, but we're beginning the process soon. Until then, let it be known that all initiates in good standing (clergy or not) can hold their degree. We recognize you.
5.The main change to the new, restructured Firefly House is in the power of the leadership. It was clearly a mistake for one person to have complete control of our web collateral and contacts. To prevent that from happening again, we will now operate on a system of checks and balances, where the 5 organizing coven members of CSM will practice consensus-based procedure in the management of the outer circle. In the past, our founder was able to ban participants and command the entire direction of the organization as she liked. Moving forward, we will instead work with the spirit of cooperation and mutual agreement whenever possible.
Finally, I want to make it clear that our coven and outer circle's wish to continue the tradition is based only in the spirit of love and the desire to continue the work of evolving our souls. Throughout these changes, the organizing council of CMS will not engage in attacks on character or participate in any public mud-slinging, should such as thing arise. As always, our only desire is to continue this noble tradition that we have all built together. We will continue to teach, hold rituals, and participate in community service for the planet and our fellow community.

Be careful what you say and how you say it as people will be so singleminded as to refuse to "agree to disagree".
Virgo (8/23-9/22) Upside down Justice (Time for Karma), upside down 9 of Wands (barriers and walls) and an upside down King of Cups (The emotional game-player): People who have done you wrong will get what is coming to them, but not without some feedback to you. Don't worry about the backlash, this has been a long time in coming.
Capricorn (12/22-1/19) Upside down Ace of Cups (Overturned holy grail), Queen of Cups (Strong emotional allies) and an upside down Knight of Swords (Tripping over one's feet): Good intentions, bad outcome. Conclusions you jump to may be right, but the obvious "fix" isn't the correct fix. Try approaching a problem from an unusual 75-degree angle.
Gemini (5/21-6/21) Page of Pentacles (Overeager friend), Knight of Cups (Said friend with a good heart) and King of Cups (Someone who listens): If you have allies and big dreams, use the former to achieve the latter, quickly! Now is the time to act on those big dreams. It won't be cheap, but it will be cheaper than normal.

This is the holiday to celebrate the Wiccan God and everything he stands for (masculinely, strength, peace, a father figure, and love). It is a time to embrace the God and the Goddess and rededicate yourself to your Wiccan beliefs
Since Beltane (May 1st) marks the first day of summer and Lughnassadh (Aug 1st) is the last day of summer on the Wiccan calendar, Litha is the midsummer mark. Litha is the longest day of the year. After this point the days begin to grow shorter and the Sun's power begins to fade. Litha lays directly across from Yule (Dec 22, the shortest day of the year) in the Wheel of the Year.
Litha is a celebration of the incoming harvests (the first of three harvest celebrations, fertility, and the thriving nature around us.
I personally do not believe in Faeries, but this is a special day for those who do. It is said that the veil is thin to the Faerie realm (Sidhe). Faeries are supposedly able to communicate with us clearly. It is also a time for making fun, playfulness, and making wishes.
The best kind of spells or rituals to do on Litha is self dedication, re dedication to the God and Goddess, love, marriage and divination.
The best kinds of incense to burn Litha are lemon, myrrh, pine, rose, and Wisteria.
Meals to observe this Wiccan holiday should include honey, fresh fruits (like lemons and oranges, summer squash or any yellow and orange colored foods. Fresh fruit juice, ale or mead are acceptable drinks.

Mojo Magick is based on the Principles of Similarity (things which seem alike are alike) and Contagion (things once in contact continue to interact after separation).
The Law of Similarity is The basis of the system of Magickal Correspondences; each area of life is Ruled by a particular planet, day of the week, etc., and each of these Planets rules a number of substances, plants, animals, etc. For example, the Area of sex and love is traditionally ruled by the planet Venus, whose day is Friday, whose color is blue-green, whose metal is copper, and whose herbs are (among many others) rose, orris, and sandalwood. If you wished to make a Love charm, then, you would pick out herbs sacred to the Goddess in
Her Venusian aspects, with perhaps a magnet (for attraction), or a copper penny, and place them in a small bag of blue-green cloth. Along With these ingredients, you would also put in some object belonging to The one you desired-a lock of hair, a fragment of an old shirt, or
The like. This obeys the Law of Contagion-you are providing an object Link, a physical connection with your subject. A photograph is an Excellent object link, especially if the subject's name is written on the Back. Each part of the mojo is symbolic, including the number of ingredients and the number of knots used to bind it-use the number which
Symbolizes your purpose.
It is most important to be Clear in your mind what your purpose actually is, and to do only one kind of Working at a time. Since the mojo functions on both the magickal and Psychological levels as a centering device, you don't want to confuse Yourself before you begin. And Magick generally works, so be prepared to get Exactly what you ask for, and ask carefully.
When you have constructed the mojo (preferably on the day appropriate to your purpose, on a waxing moon For growth and increase and on a waning moon for decrease and getting rid of Things you don't want in your life), charge it with your personal power by Breathing on it and saying something like:

As I do will SO MOTE IT BE!"
Upon uttering the last Words, project the power of your desire into the mojo. Visualize, as strongly As you can, your purpose accomplished and yourself in the situation you want.
Let this energy go into the mojo; and relax. Carry it with you, or present it To the one it is meant for. Then keep your eyes open for opportunities to Make your wish come true. They will appear-you have only to see Them.

I recently attended a class on symbols and codes at OSTARA (our local occult shoppe) given by Jon Ouromboros, High Priestess of the Butler Family Tradition. Over the next week or, I will share some of the information learned at this class.
First, we must understand what a symbol is. A symbol is an object that stands for or represents an idea or group of ideas. Symbols are a way to communicate, symbols are an exchange of information, focal points and patterns.
The class was broken down into symbolic categories as follows:
* Elemental symbols
* Items and objects
* Alphabets and runes
* Axis mundi symbols
* Solar/Lunar, God/Goddess, Male/Female symbols
* Alchemy, Planets and Zodiac symbols
* Balance and eternity symbols
* Other iconic Symbols
I will start with the four elemental symbols from the Western tradition. The fifth elemental symbol is Spirit.
Note that the symbols for fire and air are triangles that represent the phalice or male entity. The symbols for water and earth are upside down triangles that represent the chalice or female entity.
By overlapping all four of the elementals, you get a hexagram. The Hexagram is also known as the Star of David in Judaism but it is also used in magic.
The five-pointed star also known as the pentacle, pentangle (just the star), and pentagram (any writing of 5) is the most common representation of the 5 elements. We can find the five-pointed star in many places in nature such as the apple core, starfish, flowers (5 petals), and Venus in sky. The use of the pentacle goes back as far as the Greek Pythagoreans blessing themselves with the pentacle sign.
Additional symbolism within the five-pointed star is the number 2 representing the feminine (points of fire and air), and the number 3 representing the masculine (points of spirit, water and earth). By connecting all 5 tips of the pentacle, you create the witches' pyramid.
The diagram below depicts invoking and banishing the element of earth. When invoking any of the elements, you always invoke by tracing the pentagram towards you, and you always banish by tracing the pentagram away from you as if you were dismissing an element.
Even though we all use symbols everyday, and especially the pentacle/pentagram, there are deeper significant meanings behind many of them. I hope that you learned something new that will enhance your practice of magick in everyday life!

Representing the interface between the mind and reality, the Purple school is known as one of the gateways of chromatic magic, entering from the mundane world. Allows the caster to disguse and throw his or her voice so that it appears to come from anywhere in range. If a specific voice is being imitated, those who hear it and know the owner of the original voice get to save (Int) or figure out that something is not right.

Teenage is a time of rebellious thoughts and hurtful words. In many families, children are trying desperately to break out of their shells and to go out into the fascinating world that opens up before them. Children who are interested in witchcraft may need to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of getting serious about Witchcraft. Witchcraft is the most natural way of living. In harmony with nature, we respect and preserve the traditional ways of life including our wonder at the Universe, reverence for the natural elements such as plants, trees and animals and also a deep respect for all things that "SEEM" different.
The word "SEEM" is emphasized only to prove that we are not really different from each other. As we learn more about spirituality, one thought will come to the forefront; that we are all one and the same. Differences are merely decorations that dissolve in the presence love and compassion. Crowley was irritated and sceptical of his new wife and her previously hidden clairvoyant skills but she went on to tell him that he had offended the Egyptian god Horus by not finishing the Abra-Melin. Crowley quickly set about an invocation, and a strange voice identifying itself as Aiwass began to speak in their hotel room.
For three days, between the hour of midday and 1pm, Aiwass spoke and Crowley wrote. The result was The Book of Laws. Believing himself to be the messiah of a new epoch, Crowley swore that he would perform depraved acts and learn to love them. Christianity was dead, he declared. His new religion had one all-powerful doctrine: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law." Free will, denied to Crowley as a child, had now become all powerful.

Our community has endured much over that last several months, from Pagans having their membership in Masonic lodges revoked, to attacks on the home of a Pagan author to recent threats of protests. Through this entire process the community has banded together, shown support and presented the face of our community as one of love, acceptance and support for our community members.
In just a few days the Okeechobee Summer Solstice Festival will take place in Pahokee Florida. It is natural that the surrounding controversy has caused some concern as to what will take place during this event. I am writing you all to encourage you to take part in this event even if only by obtaining a day pass.
Festival organizers have spent hundreds of hours organizing, engaging the local community, law enforcement and manifesting a wonderful schedule of events. The Lady Liberty League has made much progress in assuring the community that the event will bring a positive impact on the city.
There is no evidence that there is any potential for serious confrontation during this event. The best way to show support for the cause of Pagan rights is to attend the festival. If we as a community allow these few individuals stirring controversy to affect the attendance at this event we will have seeded ground in the struggle for religious liberty.
This is going to be a grand event, great music, great workshops, and great community. Even if you were not considering attending, please consider a day pass and show your support for the free expression of religious liberty for all Americans.
