Seeking Help
Posted by

/ 7:50 AM /
In the last couple of days, as the weather has warmed, I've received a small influx of folk coming to the parish office seeking help. They ask for gas money, food, mattresses to sleep on, and in one case, spiritual counsel. These are always interesting visits and of course raise a whole lot of other concerns: are they being honest, am I enabling folks, do I say no (yes, sometimes I do), and most important of all what would be a compassionate and Christian response?
Two of the guys who've come in on separate days claim to be from the same state and have a disabled girlfriend, but don't claim to know each other. We'll see what happens. We need to be wise as pastors and churches but we also need to be loving and open to the stranger (a tough tension to live out!).
These visits have proven to be good, but unexpected Lenten disciplines for me.

Christian Churches Together Urges Fundamental Immigration Reform

Church of the Brethren Newsline
February 4, 2013Christian leaders representing the breadth of Christian churches and denominations in the United States issued a strong and urgent call for fundamental immigration reform at an annual meeting of Christian Churches Together (CCT). The statement was released Feb. 1 at the close of the four-day gathering in Austin, Texas.
For the latest Brethren news go to the main Newsline page
The Church of the Brethren, which is a member denomination of CCT, was represented by general secretary Stan Noffsinger, Annual Conference moderator Bob Krouse and moderator-elect Nancy Heishman, and Brethren Press publisher Wendy McFadden who serves on the CCT steering committee. During the annual meeting, McFadden was elected president of the "Historic Protestant Family," one of five "families" of churches that make up CCT.
The entire CCT meeting, planned a year ago, focused on the challenge of immigration reform, hearing from "dreamers," a variety of immigrants, and experts on immigration issues. Its statement comes as the nation's political leadership has turned its attention during the past week to this challenge. The CCT leaders said they would engage this debate "as followers of Jesus Christ who commanded us to welcome the stranger."
"Each day in our congregations and communities, we bear witness to the effects of a system that continues the separation of families and the exploitation, abuse, and deaths of migrants. This suffering must end," the statement declared in part (see full text below).
The diverse group, representing leadership from Catholic, Evangelical/Pentecostal, Historic Protestant, Orthodox, and Historic Black churches, agreed on these unified principles:
- An earned path to citizenship for the 11 million people in the US without authorization.
- The priority of family reunification in any immigration reform.
- Protecting the integrity of national borders and protecting due process for immigrants and their families.
- Improving refugee protection laws and asylum laws.
- Reviewing international economic policies to address the root causes of unauthorized immigration.
During the course of the CCT gathering, the group heard from immigration advocates from evangelical organizations such as World Relief, immigration policy experts at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, legislative advocates serving major Protestant denominations, and leaders from the Hispanic Christian community, among others.
The statement issued represents the broadest coalition of Christian denominations and groups to address together the urgency of fundamental immigration reform. It will be followed by advocacy to members of Congress from the membership of denominations and groups represented at the Austin meeting.

"Statement on Immigration Reform" by Christian Churches Together in the USA
February 1, 2013
Austin, Texas
Christian Churches Together in the USA, representing the breadth of Christian churches and denominations in the US, gathered in Austin, Texas, for its annual meeting to focus on the challenge of immigration reform. We heard from "dreamers," a variety of immigrants, and experts on immigration issues. Through a process of prayer, reflection, and discernment of God's call, we agreed on a statement that provides principles for just and humane immigration reform. In this hour, as our nation launches a national debate seeking immigration reform, we call upon people of faith, people of good will, elected officials in Congress, and the President of the United States to work together to enact just and humane immigration reform legislation in 2013.
As Christian leaders and Christian communities, we engage in this debate as followers of Jesus Christ, who commanded us to "welcome the stranger" (Matthew 25:35), and advised that "just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me" (Matthew 25:40).
As Christians we believe that all will be judged, in part, by the way they treat strangers in their midst. "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left" (Matthew 25:31, 32a). We acknowledge that members of our own faith communities have been complicit in the establishment and reinforcement of our current system through active political engagement and apathetic inaction. As a moral matter, we cannot tolerate an immigration system that exploits migrants, is inhospitable, and fails to offer immigrants the full protection of the law.
While immigration is often viewed as an economic, social, or legal issue, it is ultimately a humanitarian and spiritual issue that directly impacts millions of unauthorized immigrants and the entire fabric of our society. The Bible frequently commands us to treat the immigrant justly. Further, every person is created in the image of God and possesses inestimable value. It is therefore paramount that our national immigration system protects the basic human rights and dignity of all persons. Sadly, our current system fails to meet this test and requires comprehensive reform now.
The timing of our statement on immigration is ever more poignant given that our country is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. We are reminded that there are those in our nation whose forebears were brought here involuntarily through the unjust institution of slavery. There are also those who lived here long before others arrived who experienced the denial of their basic human rights. Each day in our congregations and communities, we bear witness to the effects of a system that continues this legacy of separation of families and the exploitation, abuse, and deaths of migrants. This suffering must end. Therefore, in our relentless effort to achieve a more perfect union, we urge our elected officials to enact immigration reform consistent with the following principles and policies:
Pathway to citizenship
The 11 million individuals now in the US without authorization should be given an opportunity to earn citizenship, if the individual chooses. Many have built equities in our nation and have contributed to the economic and social fabric of this country. Such reforms would ensure that families are not separated and that the undocumented population can fully enjoy the rights and responsibilities of US citizenship. (Leviticus 18:33-34)
Family reunification
Family reunification should be the cornerstone of our nation's immigration policy. Immigrant families have helped build this nation economically and socially, and will continue to do so. We support changes to the family-based immigration system, which expedite the reunification of families. Family-based visa categories should not be eliminated or reduced and the current lengthy backlogs should be addressed. (Mark 10:9)
Enforcement and due process
Enforcement measures should be just and include due process protections for immigrants. We support the right of our nation to defend our borders and to ensure the integrity of the workplace through immigration enforcement. However, for over twenty-five years, our nation has pursued an enforcement-only policy toward immigration, with severe humanitarian consequences. At the same time that our nation has spent billions of dollars on immigration enforcement, the number of undocumented in the nation has more than tripled. Millions have been incarcerated unnecessarily, thousands of families have been separated, and thousands have died attempting to enter the United States. We urge Congress to review our enforcement policies and restore due process protections to immigrants and their families in a way that respects their God-given dignity, including reform of our detention laws. (Exodus 1:1-22)
The human dignity and image of God has been further violated as a result of the cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration agencies that leads to racial profiling of people suspected of being in the US without authorization. Immigration laws should be reformed and implemented in a way that does not facilitate racial profiling. Enforceable detention standards and reforms should be established and include the review of partnerships between the federal government and for-profit prison corporations.
Refugees and asylum seekers
Refugees and asylum seekers should receive special protection as particularly vulnerable migrants because they are fleeing persecution. The United States has a moral obligation to continue to provide protection to ensure refugees and asylum seekers are able to find safety in the United States through the appropriate processes and not at heightened risk of being returned to their persecutors. There should be improvements to the asylum process to ensure asylum seekers are not detained upon arrival and are given a fair opportunity to express a fear of persecution. There should also be more robust support of the refugee resettlement program and adequate resources to help refugees integrate upon their arrival to the United States. We are also mindful of the millions of families and individuals waiting for resettlement, living, raising families, and dying in temporary refugee camps, and the many who perish attempting to reach those camps. (Matthew 2:13-18)
Root causes
In order to find a long-term solution to the problem of unauthorized immigration, the root causes of such migration should be examined. Persons should be able to find employment in their home countries in order to sustain their families in a place that is free from fear and violence. At a minimum, Congress and the Administration should review our international economic policies to ensure that they do not encourage unauthorized migration and do not eliminate living wage jobs in sending countries. Our country should help to foster job opportunities and respect for human rights in the countries from which many immigrants come. (Isaiah 2:1-4; Micah 4:1-5)
As Christian Churches Together, we recommit ourselves to be promoters and examples of justice, showing hospitality and love for the immigrant; for we know we may be "entertaining angels without knowing it" (Hebrews 13:2). We call for our nation to engage in an immigration debate that is conducted in a civil manner and does not dehumanize immigrants. We will speak out and educate communities about the past and current contributions of immigrants in building and growing this nation. Finally, we will work with our elected officials to ensure that, consistent with the aforementioned policies and principles, the human rights of immigrants are protected in any final legislation.

Lk Nearer To Thee

And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?"She pretended to be the aunt of one of the young boy's killed in the Connecticut school massacre. Prior to the release of the names of those killed, she tweeted that she did not know if her nephew had been one of the victims.
Later on, she confirmed that indeed he was. She then set up an account for people to donate money to cover the family's funeral expenses. She was lying.Just a few days ago, another woman created a domain using a young victim's name. She did it with the intent of not saving it for the grieving family but selling it to them!
How horrible! How despicable! What would you call such people? Mentally ill? Maybe. But are all people who do evil mentally ill? Will this become the new excuse for our greed, self-centeredness, and failings to love others and show compassion for them? Are all mass murderers mentally ill? Were the mass murderers of September 11th more mentally ill than the young man from Connecticut?
Was Adolf Hitler mentally ill because he committed genocide? Do politics create mental illness? Are left-wingers more (or less) mentally ill than right wingers? Are tree huggers less mentally ill than rednecks? I don't think so. So what's their problem? I would say that they are all spiritually-ill.
Yes, the murderer in Connecticut was just as spiritually ill as the murderers at Columbine, on 9/11, in Aurora, in Nazi Germany, etc...I personally make no distinction between the evil of the massacre in Connecticut with the evil of those who perform abortions. Both are despicable. Both are horrible!
I make no excuses at all to this flagrant cheapening of human life. Life is life. A child is a child. A child is always a beautiful and innocent, regardless of whether they are wanted or not. There is something seriously wrong with a person who can tear a child's body apart five days a week and call it compassion and work.
Yes, anyone who does something evil may be mentally ill, but for sure they are spiritually ill. And we have a name for such people: sinners. We want to be the master of our life. That's our problem. We demand ownership because we are spiritually ill. And when we don't get it, we take it out on God and on others.
The spiritually ill are constantly demanding to get what they want, to do whatever they want, and to live however they want. They demand unlimited "freedoms" or "rights" until they get into trouble. That's when everyone calls them crazy. How ironic! They're just living what everyone is preaching! And we call them crazy!
What steps can we take towards healing? As we approach the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, we approach the most inconvenient child ever conceived from heaven and born on earth! Let us follow the stars that lead to Christ. May we possess Mary's humility, Elizabeth's simplicity, Joseph's obedience and Zechariah's shock and sense of wonder.

Iron And Claymingled Churchcraft And Statecraft

We have come to a time when God's sacred work is represented by the feet of the image in which the iron was mixed with the miry clay. God has a people, a chosen people, whose discernment must be sanctified, who must not become unholy by laying upon the foundation wood, hay, and stubble. Every soul who is loyal to the commandments of God will see that the distinguishing feature of our faith is the seventh-day Sabbath. If the government would honor the Sabbath as God has commanded, it would stand in the strength of God and in defense of the faith once delivered to the saints. But statesmen will uphold the spurious sabbath, and will mingle their religious faith with the observance of this child of the papacy, placing it above the Sabbath which the Lord has sanctified and blessed, setting it apart for man to keep holy, as a sign between Him and His people to a thousand generations. The mingling of churchcraft and statecraft is represented by the iron and the clay. This union is weakening all the power of the churches. This investing the church with the power of the state will bring evil results. Men have almost passed the point of God's forbearance. They have invested their strength in politics, and have united with the papacy. But the time will come when God will punish those who have made void His law, and their evil work will recoil upon themselves (MS 63, 1899).

What Is The Vatican Saying To Gays
Posted by

From Malcolm Boyd (Huffington)
As a gay man and an Episcopal priest, I'm frankly extremely confused by the Vatican right now when it comes to the entire gay question.
Am I loved by anybody there?
By whom?
What's going on in the sacred halls when it comes to gay identity, gay rights, gay existence - maybe the whole question of who I am as a gay person?
I knew something strange was going on when Pope Benedict "retired" or vanished. He had never been a civil rights leader for gay people. Not at all. Yet he was a spiritual leader for millions of people. Did he have, in the recesses of his mind, any kind of "solution" to the "gay question"?
But then, rather suddenly, strange things started happening in the Vatican. The pope's valet seems to have taken, and published, certain documents that were highly controversial. (What was going on here?) The guy was found guilty of something, and could have gone to jail, but the pope "forgave" him. End of story? I don't think so. Then the pope vanished from the scene. The huge Vatican operation came to a kind of halt. Benedict was given the equivalent of an award dinner - and vanished.

Bush Administration Agrees To Approve Wiccan Pentacle For Veteran Memorials
Monday, April 23, 2007
"Settlement In Americans United Lawsuit Comes After Discovery Of A Pattern Of Bias Against Minority Faith"
The Bush administration has conceded that Wiccans are entitled to have the pentacle, the symbol of their faith, inscribed on government-issued memorial markers for deceased veterans, Americans United for Separation of Church and State announced today.
The settlement agreement, filed today with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, brings to a successful conclusion a lawsuit Americans United brought against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in November.
The litigation charged that denying a pentacle to deceased Wiccan service personnel, while granting religious symbols to those of other traditions, violated the U.S. Constitution.
"This settlement has forced the Bush Administration into acknowledging that there are no second class religions in America, including among our nation's veterans," said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United executive director. "It is a proud day for religious freedom in the United States."

Certificate Of Inequality

"I issue this Certificate of Inequality to you," the document reads, in part, "Because your choice of marriage partner displeases some people whose displeasure is, apparently, more important than principles of equality."
Thank you, Yolo County clerk Freddie Oakley. She is an evangelical Christian who believes in equal rights, and thinks that gay couples should be allowed be married, and this is her act of civil disobedience done in defense of those rights.
Consider that, dear Pagans, the next time you lump all Christians in the same group as Pat Robertson and the radical right.
The Surf Putah blog wrote this about Freddie in 2007:
An evangelical Christian who strongly supports the separation of church and state - "[...] I'm not happy about enforcing a law that is discriminatory and based on religious principles," [...] "Religion has no place in government." - Oakley confuses the standard media narrative that places religious folks on one side and those who support a religiously neutral secular state on the other. In reality, this is not solely an issue of religious versus secular values, but also a question of whether the state will enforce one side in a sectarian dispute; to wit, whether the state will tell Unitarians, Quakers and Congregationalists that the same sex couples that they marry are not married unless the Southern Baptists and Fundamentalists agree to it. Additionally, these laws conflict with the Fourteenth Amendment's equal protection clause, which guarantees all citizens the same rights under law. As Rich Rifkin points out in the comments after the Davis Vanguard article, it is illegal to deny business licenses to a gay or lesbian owner because of their sexual orientation; how then can it be legally defensible to deny them the legal right to marry other consenting adults?
You go, girl.
As of this writing, these couples still cannot get married and Freddie continues to give out her certificates. She has offered to pay for the marriage licenses for these gay couples (some of whom have been together over 30 years) when their union finally becomes legal.
Let's hope that day comes soon.

Diversity Is Cultural Suicide
Posted by

/ 1:42 PM /
When immigrants enter Britain, they must come to integrate not colonise.
Therefore if they wish to join public institutions like the police then they must demonstrate their respect for British culture and respect for the majority population and history of Britain by adhering to our norms, not imposing theirs.
Therefore they must integrate into our society, not we surrender our culture to accomodate them.
( The bits about the illuminati and jewish central bankers in the article below are bug bears of the author, which I disagree with as the bankers of the world are not just Jewish - wherever greedy men are in the world then a banker is born so they are of all races and all religions - and the illuminati do not exist, but the globalists do. The article is interesting for what it says about diversity, not the conspiracy theories)
The former 7-Eleven clerk has been in the country for just three years but his cultural needs trump those of the 136-year-old Winnipeg Police Service. Apparently the WPS has no cultural tradition worth preserving; its uniform has no significance whatever.
The move isn't uncommon in Canada, with Sikh officers in cities such as Ottawa and Vancouver wearing turbans. We have no cultural identity in Canada. Perhaps this is the reason.
I hope the Filipinos, Somalis and aboriginals who make up Winnipeg's rich cultural mosaic also will be able to modify their uniform.
ISN'T DIVERSITY GREAT?
I expect that if I were 35 again and joined the Punjab police, they'd let me blow off the turban and wear a Jewish skullcap or Mountie hat.
I'm sure I could take Saturdays or Sundays off to celebrate my religion. To help me remember my homeland, they'd allow a Beaver Insignia and Tim Horton's logo on my uniform. That's multiculturalism!
And I expect that if 20 million people of European Christian extraction moved to the Punjab, they'd move heaven and earth to ensure we got our proportionate share of good jobs.
I know Punjabis value "Diversity" as much as we do.
[This is where I insert my Disclaimer: I like racial minorities. I like their restaurants and cooking. They have strong family values and this is more important now than ever. I was married to a Filipina for two years. I am not a racist in the negative sense.
I'm all for people being treated fairly. That means hiring on the basis of qualifications and ability, not quotas for color and gender.]
EUROPEAN CHRISTIAN DUNCES
This article is just to marvel at the stupidity of the fast-shrinking European majority and the perfidy of the traitors who pass as their "leaders."
I am all for having racial minorities but it should be obvious that "Diversity" is a ruse. Europeans are being sweet talked out of their national birthright. They're fast becoming the next minority in Europe and North America and, with all the guilt trips, I'm not sure they'll be treated with the same "tolerance."
Apparently Jews can have a country where they are the majority and set the cultural standard. So can Indians, Arabs, Africans, Japanese and Chinese. But Europeans cannot.
Europeans have a sense of political and economic entitlement, and represent the last potential resistance to Illuminati control. They have vestiges of Christianity, the thing the Illuminati hate more than anything. According to Christianity, man has a Divine soul; they obey God and thereby become more God-like. The Illuminati see people as animals trained to obey them.
Many "minorities" and "women" are beholden to the Illuminati who put them in power. They are their trained seals.
Were "Multiculturalism" or "Diversity" ever major election issues? No. They were never debated. They entered the world in the form of "political correctness.' To question them exposed you to charges of bad taste and racism.
Multiculturalism and Diversity are social engineering programs introduced by the Illuminati (Masonic Jewish) central bankers. They are designed to change the European and Christian character of Europe and North America. They prevent us from maintaining and celebrating our cultural identity and traditions. Take school prayer for example.
Similarly, feminism was an excuse to undermine marriage, heterosexuality and males in general. The school prom, virginity and even courtship went the way of the dodo. Marriage and birthrates plummeted.
Dunce Cap.jpgEuropeans have been sweet talked out of their national birthright. Our politicians work for the corporations or unions which are all controlled by the central bankers. They're not our leaders. They're our managers at best. Chief McCaskill and all the other clarions of "Diversity" are of the same ilk.
So I'd like to suggest a traditional head covering for the future European minority. It's the Dunce's Cap. It's for people who don't appreciate their blessings and don't protect them. It's for people who don't have the smarts to perpetuate themselves, their values and traditions, and as a consequence become extinct.
And if you're feeling resentful, don't blame the minorities. Let's blame ourselves and our so-called leaders - the politicians, pastors, academics and pundits who sold us out for a profit to the Illuminati bankers and their satanic New World Order.

New Australian Passports Allow Third Gender Option

BBC News, 15 September 2011
AUSTRALIANS HAVE BEEN GIVEN A THIRD CHOICE WHEN DESCRIBING THEIR GENDER ON PASSPORT APPLICATIONS, UNDER NEW GUIDELINES AIMED AT REMOVING DISCRIMINATION.
The reform aims to curb gender
discrimination
Transgender people and those of ambiguous sex will be able to list their gender as indeterminate, which will be shown on passports as an X.
People whose gender was different from that of their birth were previously required to have reassignment surgery before they could change their passport to their preferred sex.
An Australian senator, Louise Pratt - whose partner was born female and is now identified as a man - said the reform was a huge step forward.
"There have been very many cases of people being detained at airports by immigration in foreign countries simply because their passports don't reflect what they look like," she told Australian radio.
"It's very distressing, highly inconvenient and frankly sometimes dangerous."

Diocese Ends Grant Over Planned Parenthood
Posted by

From Catholic Culture:
The Archdiocese of Portland (Oregon) has rescinded a Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) grant to "Street Roots," a newspaper that advocates on behalf of the homeless, after the newspaper refused to remove a reference to Planned Parenthood from its resource guide."Street Roots" said that it was a victim of a "witch hunt," and a columnist for the leading local newspaper attacked the decision. "It's too bad that under pressure they chose to do the Catholic thing rather than the Christian one," wrote Anna Griffin of "The Oregonian."
"It's disturbing that a small group of right-wing fringe elements within the Catholic Church are being successful at undermining the Catholic Campaign for Human Development's work to address the root causes of poverty through promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education," said Street Roots executive director Israel Bayer, adding:
At the end of the day, a witch hunt is a witch hunt, and that's exactly what Street Roots and dozens of community organizations working to fight poverty in the United States are facing, a witch hunt born out of fear and intolerance. And let's be clear, this is far from over. Every group that currently receives funds from CCHD is being asked to not take part in activities, or align themselves with the very groups it will take to dismantle poverty in this country. An archdiocesan official also criticized critics of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
Matt Cato, director of the Office of Justice and Peace for the Archdiocese of Portland, said that "there are one or two people within our diocese who spend their time looking for organizations on our grant lists that have connections to anything contrary to Catholic teaching, specifically abortion."
"I do know that plenty of people are uncomfortable when a group of low-income or poor persons have power," Cato told "Street Roots" in a lengthy article that includes comments from both leading CCHD critics and CCHD defenders.
"So you have the power of money, which corporations have, and you have the power of people, which is what community organizing is," Cato added. "The power of people which needs to balance the power of money, and that's what community organizing is about, and a lot of people are uncomfortable with the poor having the voice."
In a December 2009 LifeNews.com column, a local Catholic discussed another grant recipient's problematic ties and the lack of interest with which his concerns were initially met at the archdiocesan and national level.

Survey On Pagan Responses To The Uk Census 2011

"I've been invited by the British Sociological Association's Sociology of Religion group to give a paper next month on Pagan responses to the UK Census 2011. "There is a big difference of course between the survey numbers and those quote for number of Pagans in the UK and I'm trying to tease out some of the reasons. One might be that numbers have been inflated of course. The other might be that Pagans for various reasons were under-reported. "I wonder if you'd be kind enough, if you completed the Census, to answer the survey by clicking this link. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/UK2011Census "All responses are anonymous. "I'd to get as many responses from different parts of the Pagan community as I can, so if there are any Pagan mailing lists/e-groups that you're involved with, it would be great if you could post the link."This sounds like very useful research that could help pagans gain more recognition for our chosen spiritual path.
