What Is Jing In Chinese Herbal Medicine

What Is Jing In Chinese Herbal Medicine
Jing is the Chinese word for "essence". Jing is the primordial energy that is stored in the kidneys. Along with Qi and Shen, it is considered one of the Three Treasures. Qi is the day-to-day energy that enlivens and animates the body. Shen is our spirit, which resides in our heart and can be seen as the light in someone's eyes. We are said to be born with a set amount of Jing (pre-natal Jing) which comes from our ancestors. Jing determines our constitution, strength, and vitality. We can also acquire Jing from food and various activities (exercise, study, meditation).

Jing is like our reserve battery and it can be consumed through the ordinary process of living. Ongoing stress, illness, substance abuse, and sexual overindulgence, all can deplete Jing essence. The way to conserve Prenatal Jing is by striving for balance in all life activities. Balance meaning moderation in diet, work/rest, sexual activity. Irregularity or excess in these areas wastes Prenatal Jing. At the end of the day, when you run out of Jing, you run out of life, so it's important that we learn to conserve and replenish this vital energy.

Jing is considered fundamental for longevity in traditional Chinese medicine. Many disciplines including qigong and Tai Chi are devoted to the replenishing "lost" Jing by restoring post-natal Jing. Additionally, and perhaps more conveniently, one can also take herbs and certain foods to help replenish Jing essence.

There are two ways a person can become deficient in Jing. In Chinese medicine the person is either born with sub-optimal Jing or else the body became Jing deficient through illness, ongoing stress, or major Type A behavior. Jing is a very precious substance, and it should be guarded and not wasted. Deficiency of Kidney Jing can result in problems such as impotence, chronic lower back pain, weak knees, tinnitus, urinary incontinence, deafness, loose teeth, etc.

The state of Kidney Essence also influences our strength and resistance. If the Essence is "wasted" or poorly stored, a person may have lowered immunity to outside pathogens and constantly be unwell with a cold, influenza, allergies, etc. Tonifying Jing in Chinese medicine is a long term strategy due to the need for deeply nourishing the body.

The way to conserve Prenatal Jing is by striving for balance in all life activities. Balance meaning moderation in diet, work/rest, sexual activity. Irregularity or excess in these areas wastes Prenatal Jing.

Certain Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years as remedies for weak JIng, to help rebuild and replenish this all-important energy of one's vital essence. Among the best known Jing herbs are: Cordyceps, He Shou Wu, Ginseng, Eucommia, Cistanche and others. One of the very best herbs for building Jing that is growing in popularity is Deer Antler extract. Taking these herbs regularly can make a significant difference in your life, particularly if you are affected by the loss of Jing from your lifestyle.

Jing Herbs is one of the leading providers of top quality traditional Chinese herbal formulas, herbs, and tonics. Their focus is on creating simple tonic recipes for people to make at home while at the same time providing a full line of gentle yet effective Chinese herbal blends for every facet of life. Masked Ball Magician

Masked Ball Magician

I WAS ASKED IF I WOULD BE A MAGICIAN AT A MASKED BALL FOR A CHARITY EVENT FOR RAYS OF SUNSHINE AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE AN INTERESTING NIGHT!

The day started with a couple of meetings, so I managed to get ONE MAYFAIR an hour before I call time. Earlier in the day I had managed to get hold of a mask from angles, which enabled me to be correctly dressed at the MASKED BALL, as you can see in the photograph above. When I arrived at the venue, I got my CLOSE UP MAGIC ready and wandered round so I could get to know the lie of the land. I put my MASQUERADE MASK on that i had bought earier and as it was the 1st time I'd worn one during a performance it took a few attempts to work out the appropriate way to secure it so that it was comfortable. I spent some time initially speaking to Tiffany Redman, an opera singer, and her mother whom had situated themselves within the VIP section, I stayed here until the event opened.

As people started arriving I noticed that the other MAGICIANS at the event were all downstairs so I stayed within the VIP section is not to tread on their toes of any of the other entertainers. I spent almost the entire evening within the VIP section only venturing down at 11 o'clock but I will write about that in a moment.

It was great to see that everyone had put so much effort into their night out. One of the more bizarre moments of the evening was when during a performance, another MAGICIAN came over and interrupted mine by started performing, he explaining only the best MAGICIANS were allowed to perform in the VIP section and that's why they hadn't seen one yet. When it became apparent, as the other spectators said I was a magician, I was told to chill out, in so uncertain turns, however as I just took a step back and allowed him to continue I'm not entirely sure how he felt I had acted inappropriately, he also exclaimed if i wasn't wear a mask he would have realised, however it was a MASKED BALL. He proceeded to say that he would watch my act before storming off saying I'm not going to wait, even though i had started, it certainly left the weird vibe however it didn't take long to change the atmosphere back to a jovial one.

I had focused most of my efforts onto one side of the balcony within one Mayfair so I headed over to the other side, which was less jam-packed than where I was. I had been performing for 2 hours and in truth due to where I was I had not seen or heard any other acts that were partaking at the event, other than the magician just mentioned and the time was just flying by. Whilst I was performing for a couple they noticed that GREG RUTHERFORD was one of the guests, for those of you reading this and can't place the name with the face he is one of the BRITISH OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLISTS from the 2012 OLYMPICS. This was the 2nd time I'd seen him at an event in a month however I have yet to write the blog about that event. When I had met him at the last event I'd not had a good opportunity to show him any CLOSE UP MAGIC however at the MASKED BALL I was able to perform and chat with him. One of the other guests that was with him was JONATHAN ABBOTT FROM HUGO BOSS, you may be able to tell from crisp lines and perfect fit, Greg Rutherford suit was made by HUGO BOSS. I performed CLOSE-UP MAGIC to him and his party before mingling with other guests until I realised it was 11 o'clock and headed back downstairs.

I continued performing CLOSE-UP MAGIC to the guests and encouraging them to go and have a look at the signed memorabilia that was being auctioned off in an attempt to raise more money the charity rays of sunshine. My last group I perform to were some of the staff from square mile which included, LOREN PENNEY, she looked amazing in her dress from girl meets dress. When I went over to her I asked if she'd like to see some CLOSE-UP MAGIC. Lauren immediately said yes and told me she was going to guess my name which, unfortunately she failed to do, only remembering 3 of the 4 MAGICIANS names but after my performance she told me she would never forget my name again and the SQUARE MILE twitter feed reiterated this with a tweet

Amazing magic from @ROBERTPOUND at the #SQUAREMILEMASKEDBALL last night. No-one will forget his name!

it was then that I realised I had to rush to get my train home I was able to say goodbye to the SQUARE MILE staff, JONATHAN ABBOTT and GREG RUTHERFORD and friends before rushing home after a very successful night at the MASKED BALL.

The next day I had a lovely message form one of the guest saying @ROBERTPOUND Loved meeting you at the MaskedBall, your skills blew me away! Damn that queen, she always got away from me &@TORIAPENNELL! x and some correspondence Through Facebook, it was a brilliant night that raised a lot of money for charity. I also have a brilliant mask for any other MASKED BALL enquiries.

Bamboozled Brethren Bowing Down To Baal

Bamboozled Brethren Bowing Down To Baal
The Burning Taper is reporting a new video slamming the Masons as a bunch of Satanic "Ba'al worshippers." Of course, the whole allegation is that one word used in an appendant body ceremony is a compound word of pagan gods, and the middle syllable "bal" is conclusive proof that Masonic ceremonies are a carefully hidden sacrifice to Ba'al, an Old Testament Hebrew deity gone bad. (The name later morphed by the Phillistines into "Ba'al Zebub", the Lord of the Flies, but there are a dozen variations over the centuries.) And the corn talked about in the Fellow Craft degree and in cornerstone ceremonies, well, that's because Ba'al was the God of grain. (If you look at his crown in this lifelike artist's conception at the left, his crown has grain in it. PROOF!)

Therefore, all Masons are unknowingly praying to Ba'al when they say "The Grand Architect of the Universe."

Right.

Just like we were all unknowingly worshipping Satan when we bought a box of Procter and Gamble soap powder, because "everybody knows" that the old P&G logo of a moon and stars was a Satanic symbol (and had "nothing" to do with the fact that the company started out in the 1800s by making candles, and created a pretty logo alluding to nighttime).

What's surprising at first glance is that the show includes footage willingly provided by Capstone productions showing the reenactment of the Capitol cornerstone ceremony, as well as onscreen interviews with Brothers Brent Morris from the AASR-SJ and Trevor McKeown the Grand Historian from the Grand Lodge of British Columbia and Yukon. The brethren do an outstanding job of calmly answering the stooopid questions posed. But the power of editing is used to juxtapose then with the deranged allegations of fundamentalist Christians with an anti-Masonic agenda, and with anti-Mason, anti-Mormon Ed "There's A Goat Of Mendes In The Streets Of Washington" Decker. Doubtless, this hit piece will help Ed sell a few more of his preposterous Other names for Ba'al include Moloch and Hadad, God of rain, thunder and agriculture (which is where this whole "god of grain" thing comes from).

Hmmm. Hadad looks not far off from Hodad and not a far stretch from... Hodapp.

Bow down before me, oh witless cravens!

Wicca Tradicin Correliana Qu Es

*

Saucy Arethusa Words

Arethusa
Prince Hoare (1755-1834), in The Lock and Key, 1796
Music: Based on "The Princess Royal" in
John Walsh, The Complete Dancing Master, 1730,
adapted by William Shield (1754-1829), in The Lock and Key
cf. MISSISSIPPI by Bradshaw, Shenandoah Harmony, p. 288

Come, all ye jolly sailors bold,
Whose hearts are cast in honour's mould,
While English glory I unfold,
Hurra for the Arethusa!
She is a frigate tight and brave
As ever stemmed the dashing wave;
Her men are staunch
to their fav'rite launch,
And when the foe
shall meet our fire,
Sooner than strike we'll all expire,
On board of the Arethusa!

'Twas with the spring fleet she went out,
The English Channel to cruise about,
When four French sail, in show so stout,
Bore down on the Arethusa!
The famed Belle Poole straight a head did lie,
The Arethusa seemed to fly,
Not a sheet or a tack,
or a brace did she slack,
Tho' the Frenchmen laugh'd
and thought it stuff,
But they knew not the handful of men how tough,
On board of the Arethusa.

On deck five hundred men did dance,
The stoutest they could find in France,
We with two hundred did advance,
On board of the Arethusa.
Our captain hailed the Frenchman, "Ho!"
The Frenchmen then cried out, "Hallo!"
"Bear down, d'ye see,
to our Admiral's lee,"
"No, no," says he,
"that can't be,"
"Then I must lug you along with me."
Says the saucy Arethusa.

The fight was off the Frenchman's land,
We forced them back upon their strand,
For we fought till not a stick would stand,
Of the gallant Arethusa.
And now we've driven the foe ashore,
Never to fight with Britons more,
Let each fill a glass
to his fav'rite lass!
A health to the captain
and officers true,
And all that belong to the jovial crew,
On board of the Arethusa.

A spiritual paraphrase:

MISSISSIPPI

Words: anonymous in
Hymns and Spiritual Songs for the use of Christians, 1803
Music: MISSISSIPPI, arranged by [William?] Bradshaw in
Supplement to the Kentucky Harmony, 1820, an adaptation
of "Saucy Arethusa" in The Lock and Key

How happy every child of grace,
The soul that's filled with joy and peace,
That bears the fruits of righteousness,
And kept by Jesu's power,
Their trespasses are all forgiven,
They antedate the joys of heaven:
In rapturous lays
Shout the praise
Of Jesu's grace,
To a lost race
Of sinners, brought to happiness
Through the atoning blood of Jesus.

Satan may tempt, and hell may rage,
And all the powers of earth besiege;
Their united strength at once engage
To pluck a soul from Jesus:
The faithful soul laughs them to scorn,
He's heaven-bound, he's heaven-born,
He'll watch and pray,
Night and day,
Fight his way,
Win the day,
And all his enemies dismay,
Through the mighty name of Jesus.

O monster, Death, thy sting is drawn,
O, boasting Grave, the trophies won;
The saint triumphs through grace alone,
To praise the name of Jesus.
At length he bids the world adieu,
With all its vanity and show-
The soul it flies,
Through the skies,
To Paradise,
And joins its voice,
In rapturous lays of love to praise
The glorious name of Jesus.

When Gabriel's awful trump shall sound,
And rend the rocks, convulse the ground,
And gives to time her upmost bound,
Ye dead arise to judgment.
See lightnings flash and thunders roll,
The earth wrapped like a parchment scroll:
Comets blaze,
Singers raise,
Dread amaze,
And horrors seize
The guilty sons of Adam's race,
Unsaved from sin by Jesus.

The christian, filled with rapturous joy,
Midst flaming worlds he mounts on high,
To meet his Savior in the sky,
And see the face of Jesus.
Then soul and body reunite,
And filled with glory infinite:
Blessed day,
Christians say,
Will you pray,
That we may
All join that happy company,
To praise the name of Jesus.

The Ancient Mysteries Used By Jesus

The Ancient Mysteries Used By Jesus To Perform Miracles
The ninth century B.C. was a time of great uprising and fighting in the regions surrounding Egypt. The river Nile was at flood stage many times during this century. The weather patterns were extremely erratic. The Pharaoh in power for a good part of this century was claiming and fighting for control of most areas where the sphinxes were located. He had knowledge of secrets that were buried in one of the sphinxes; he knew not which one and wanted to possess all of them to be certain he had access to this knowledge.

Fortunately for humanity he met a quick death when he finally had gained ownership of the land holding the sphinx that held the secrets. If he had not met his death, he could certainly have gained control of the world with this knowledge. This knowledge is so well hidden that none today will find it. These secrets had been the way the pyramids had been built. They are the way the cities in the new age will be built.

Jesus also had the knowledge of the mysteries and this is how he performed his miracles. He used the mysteries for good always. The Pharaoh would have used them for evil had he gotten hold of them. These mysteries included:

1. Solar Energy

2. Healing

3. Levitation

4. Out of Body Travel

5. Dematerialization

6. Thought Transference

7. Suspended Animation

8. Vibrating Atoms

9. Honing

These all must necessarily employ great mind power, which must be developed through evolution. There are a few entities able to weakly do some of these mysteries, but it will be a long way down the road before they all can be restored.

1. Solar Energy is not being properly used as of now. The sun's rays need to be reflected before being absorbed in solar collectors. The reflections intensify the heat and at the same time eliminate unnecessary rays. This miniaturizes the apparatus needed on the home making it much less expensive to install. The way it is being done now is a laborious system the other would be streamlined.

2. Healing by thought or touch is all done with energy. If the illness is indeed caused by physical circumstances, then touch is used. If it can be determined that it is the emotional body affecting the physical, then thought is used. The healer must have an extremely powerful mental body to perform this. A knowledge of the energy lines in bodies combined with an innate understanding of psychology and the use of intuition is indicated.

3. Levitation also takes a strong mental ability. One focuses all three bodies (physical, mental and emotional) on the object to be moved and with the third eye, pictures it in its new position. This obviously can't be done until the third eye is restored and the bodies brought into alignment.

4. Out of Body Travel is the ability of the mind to travel to another location than where the physical form is. This is a natural state for humanity and is done effortlessly by many already. It usually comes into play in unenlightened ones in times of emergency or great emotional stress. It should not be used on a whim to interfere in anyone's personal life.

5. Dematerialization is done by organizing the atoms in one's body to vibrate with increased intensity. This is done with ease by very highly evolved entities, but is almost impossible or totally impossible for those in incarnation today, unless from a distant star. Even then it is very difficult due to the heavy atmosphere on earth. In the new age, the increase in the rate of the energy waves, plus the clean non-polluted atmosphere, will lend itself to making this easier.

6. Thought Transference - for thought transference, two must be vibrating at exactly the same level. They must necessarily want to send a message and be open to receive one.

7. Suspended Animation is very dangerous. It is energy powerful enough to stop vibrations of atoms. It is one of the most powerful forces in the universe and would only be used in dire emergencies.

8. Honing is done in the throat and sets up a force field around individuals to repel harmful vibrations. The energy field at times can be so forceful as to drive back another entity trying to approach the one using this.

9. Vibrating Atoms or devas are miniature tops, swirling units of energy. They may be compared to dust devils, only on an infinitesimal scale. Enough of them, commanded by mental power, thought transference, can be induced to move building materials where they need to be. Needless to say, the wrong use of these forces could have serious consequences. Compare them also with the force tornados have and feats that dust devils can perform.

Healing

The physical healings Jesus did, and those being done now, are all done with mental power, mind control. There is a way that this can be done instantly, but takes one in whom the psychic powers have been honed to their sharpest degree. This healing power potential is latent in all humanity. Very few ever develop it and certainly no one has ever developed it to the degree that Jesus did. This was part of the plan of His incarnation so He was well grounded and trained in this before entry. The mysteries locked inside the pyramids explain this training and give detailed instructions as to how to develop this potential. If these were to be found by anyone today, they would be used for mercenary purposes.

Miracles

As far as stories of other "miracles" He performed, most were blown out of proportion in the retelling. He did on several occasions, make use of levitation and solar power but never used suspended animation, though He was capable of it.

The human race simply is not developed enough to be able to do miracles on a daily basis. It has nothing to do with their spiritual growth. It has everything to do with physical evolution. It would have to do with the combining of genes that takes place before the entity is born so there are limitations on what we can do to create our own reality. These limitations are imposed by our physical body. There are no limitations to creating our own reality when we leave the earth plane, as earth is the only plane we will progress through where we are caught in matter and have this limitation imposed on us.

We cannot walk on water because our flesh and bones do not have the buoyancy that is needed to walk on water. They do not have this buoyancy because they do not have the right DNA makeup. Jesus was one who had this makeup way before his time. He had a different DNA structure, a much more progressed DNA structure, than anyone has had before or since.

Humans will eventually evolve to where they can do miracles in the physical body. The mental body, the

animal-based brain, will have much to do with this progress and it is progressing quite rapidly. Do not misunderstand. The DNA must progress first. The actual atomic structure of the human form must progress first, to where the buoyancy of the form would be there. Then it will be a combination of the animal-based brain mind and the desire of the soul wanting to do miracles that will allow it to happen. This will be, perhaps, between 500 and 1,000 years into the future before this will take place.

Jesus gave off very strong vibrations, much stronger than any today. Perhaps only because of the purer atmosphere, they seemed stronger and could be felt by those who got near Him, even though these people were not sensitive. The mystery of honing which can be described as being like the purring of a cat, is what enabled Him to have these strong vibrations. Honing can be used to repel or attract, whichever is wanted or necessary. He used it to attract the people. He was truly a great psychic and still possesses these powers today. He never used any psychic power for anything other than good.

Belief In Reincarnation Has Its Roots

Belief In Reincarnation Has Its Roots In Ancient Culture

By Marissa Valentin

The belief in reincarnation is one that finds its roots in many different ancient cultures. Throughout history these cultures have borrowed different points from each other to form a variety of hybrid belief systems that focus on reincarnation. Probably more than any other aspect of faith, this point is one where people pick and choose what they want to believe in order to develop a system that fits within their world view and which works well for them.

At their core, all systems of reincarnation share a notion that the life one is currently living on earth may not be the first or last. While they may differ in the number of lives that one can live, there is generally a shared presupposition that one will continue to be reborn until some cosmic or spiritual quest is completed. Some New Age philosophies and even some sects of Hinduism suggest that we may be reborn as any number of things that don't necessarily have to be human (I.e. the sacred cows of India). Other ancient religions, like Buddhism will teach that humans are reincarnated as humans

The purposes of reincarnation are just as varied as its many backgrounds. In some religions, people are re-born in an effort to achieve perfection. Each life cycle is an opportunity to gain more wisdom and to increase your status. The lessons and character that you gain in your present life will then be carried on to the next. Other religions believe that each life cycle is another step in becoming one with the divine forces of the universe. The Buddhist notion of Nirvana is one example of this. As you seek enlightenment in each life, you begin to lose your sense of individuality and to see the true connection between your spirit and the universe as a whole.

Some of the New Age versions of reincarnation simply hold the idea that the spirit is eternal and that, though the body may die, the spirit will move on and find a new home. The soul will live on indefinitely, always manifesting itself in some form of the persons true self. There is no higher goal or sense of achievement other than to live each life to the fullest extent possible.

Even western religions that are based in and around the Christian tradition teach a form of reincarnation. The spirit is not re-born on earth as a carnal being, but they do teach that the soul is eternal and will exist in a state of eternal harmony with God. In this case the reincarnation only happens once, and most Christians would say that, upon death, they are really turning back into the true, unblemished manifestation of themselves. Though they would probably never use the word reincarnation, the phrase "born again" is an intricate part of their vocabulary. This isn't to say that it is the same belief as the Eastern variations of reincarnation, but it does give credence to the idea that new life after the one we are living now is essential to nearly every major faith system in the world.

In an effort to better understand the intricacies of each faith system's beliefs concerning reincarnation, a full understanding of the faith system as a whole must be obtained. Without a basic knowledge of what is to be achieved in life then it isn't possible to truly appreciate the teachings and devotion of a religions practitioners. We should all take the time to understand why people believe what they do before we mock what they believe. If we haven't taken the time to look at the world from their point of view then it isn't likely that you'll understand.

Vashikaran Doll Mantra

Vashikaran Doll Mantra 2
This is another method to practice the Vashikaran Voodoo Doll attraction experiment. The procedure and the mantra is only a slight variation of the one originally described in the previous post; read it - HERE. However the same disclaimer is also applicable to this mantra also; for only experienced practitioners; so be careful.

On a Saturday prepare a cloth doll and then write the name of the person who you want to put a spell of attraction on the stomach of this Voodoo Doll. Such Dolls are normally prepared by stitching a cloth pattern having a likeliness of a Doll and stuffing cotton inside it and then painting the eyes, mouth and the other body parts.

Then chant the Vashikaran Mantra 108 times and then show the doll to the person. This it said to put an attraction spell on that person.

Myths Of Meditation

7 Myths Of Meditation
In the past forty years, meditation has entered the mainstream of modern Western culture, prescribed by physicians and practiced by everyone from business executives, artists, and scientists to students, teachers, military personnel, and - on a promising note - politicians. Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan meditates every morning and has become a major advocate of mindfulness and meditation, as he describes in his book, A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice Can Help Us Reduce Stress, Improve Performance, and Recapture the American Spirit. Despite the growing popularity of meditation, prevailing misconceptions about the practice are a barrier that prevents many people from trying meditation and receiving its profound benefits for the body, mind, and spirit. Here are seven of the most common meditation myths dispelled.

Myth #1: Meditation is difficult.

TRUTH: This myth is rooted in the image of meditation as an esoteric practice reserved only for saints, holy men, and spiritual adepts. In reality, when you receive instruction from an experienced, knowledgeable teacher, meditation is easy and fun to learn. The techniques can be as simple as focusing on the breath or silently repeating a mantra. One reason why meditation may seem difficult is that we try too hard to concentrate, we're overly attached to results, or we're not sure we are doing it right. In our experience at the Chopra Center, learning meditation from a qualified teacher is the best way to ensure that the process is enjoyable and you get the most from your practice. A teacher will help you understand what you're experiencing, move past common roadblocks, and create a nourishing daily practice.

The Octave Day Of Pentecost

Just Some Pics
The above is another name the Prayer Book gives today. And so on this last day of the Pentecost season, I will take the opportunity to remind our readers of three posts regarding the gifts of the Holy Spirit beginning Easter Monday (when the Epistle from Acts 10 refers to Jesus being "anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power").

Anglican Catholicism and the Charismata

The Charismatic reality of the Church

Being Filled with the Spirit

A subsequent post quoting Bishop Brian Iverach's email to me sent in support of the above articles created some controversy. At least some of this controversy seemed to be due to ascribing views to the Bishop (such as denigrating medical science) which could only be extracted from the letter by ignoring the actual words and illegitimately attempting to read between the lines. There was even a reference to the completely irrelevant heresy of Christian Science, as if to prove guilt by a non-existent association.

In order that the record be set straight, here are some further thoughts from Bp Iverach, written by him to me after I asked him to look at the thread and its comments:

The plus in the discussion is that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit have been in focus, with mention of the wide spread application of such gifts. In the case of the miraculous healing of Lana's eye, this did not lead her into Christian Science. It lead her into the healing ministry in the Body of Christ, the Church,... The full impact that her ministry has had on others is known unto God. Most recently we praised God for the healing she received at the hands of a highly qualified surgeon and in nursing care during many weeks in hospital.

The down side of the discussion has been the distracting focus on the exercise of the gift of glossolalia, especially in public, and the shame of some disparaging remarks about healing miracles. As Anglicans we have the discipline to apply all the gifts as mentioned by the blessed Apostle, such discipline not prevalent in the practice of some of our Pentecostal brothers and sisters. Should the excesses of modern day Corinthians preclude ministry in the Gifts of the Spirit? No. Are any gifts (apart from those specifically I speak from experience; of what I have personally seen in an Anglican congregation when the Spirit of God moved upon the people. All was in good order. The occasional prophesies were given during the offertory preparations or during the ablutions after communion. There was no grandstanding whatsoever. Nothing was forced. Worship was not disrupted. The prophetic blessings were applied in the life of the parish. The congregation grew in numbers exponentially and also in love and service of the Lord, in ministry outreach into the local community, and into the barrios of Mexico. The youth went over the boarder to help build housing and schools for the poor, shipments of beans were regularly delivered, and all the time the parish contributed the largest tithe to the diocese. We speak of the fruits of the Spirit. All glory to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

The main difference between my liturgical suggestion and the Bishop's past experiences is that I put the allocated time for prophetic ministry before the Sermon as "communications... enjoined by lawful authority", to quote the Canadian 1962 Book of Common Prayer, whereas the Bishop mentions the Offertory and Post-Communion times. The latter options, effectively corresponding to pre- and post- Consecration thanksgivings, seem not dissimilar to the timing implied in 1 Corinthians 14.16 and the Didache 10. The reasons for my suggestion were given in the first article above.

It is also appropriate here to thank my Metropolitan for his kind, eirenic words in this post. I would like to make two observations, however, about elements of what was said therein.

To begin at the end, so to speak, the Archbishop finished with the following paragraph:

"I am not a 'cessationist'. I believe in miracles and do not doubt that God can infuse knowledge of unknown tongues or prophecy. I do not presume to judge any man's personal religious experience, except by the proper standards of charity, of consistency with the known and authorized teaching of the universal Church, and of the spiritual fruit of Christian living. But I also believe that where the faith is truly taught and the sacraments are rightly administered, personal religious experience is mainly of private significance."

While the last sentence makes perfect sense if referring to the gift of tongues uninterpreted, which was the subject of much of the previous discussion, it cannot be said to apply to other gifts such as the gifts of prophecy or tongues as interpreted. Why not? Because St Paul makes abundantly clear that such gifts are provided by God specifically to edify the Church as a whole. They are not meant to be limited to personal edification (1 Co. 14.3-5). And it would be wrong of us to pretend that any gift God truly gives is an optional extra that we don't need because we have the sacraments and orthodox teaching!

Which brings me to my next qualifying point. Archbishop Haverland also said: "When the Catholic faith is alive and well, however, neo-pentecostalism tends to be at best unnecessary and at worst divisive." If neo-pentecostalism refers to the belief (common among Pentecostals) that all must speak in tongues or demonstrate some other outwardly miraculous gift, or they cannot be filled with the Spirit, that is one thing. And that belief has not been defended here. However, if neo-pentecostalism was taken to refer simply to the resurgence and use of all the charisms, including among the laity, the statement above would suffer the same problem I mentioned at the end of the previous paragraph. In the latter connotation, "neo-pentecostalism" is perfectly in accord with the Catholic faith and any division caused should not be assumed to be the fault of those simply wanting to exercise or experience the benefit of, in decency and order, true gifts of the Holy Spirit designed to edify the Church.

If you decide to buy a magic kit, make sure you get one that fits the intelligence level of your child. While you want to start off with easy magic tricks, kids will lose interest if their level of involvement doesn't match up with their academic ability.
