Its Temple Is The Lord God Almighty

Rev 21 15 22 Its Temple Is The Lord God Almighty

*

(REV 21, 15-22) ITS TEMPLE IS THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY

[15] The one who spoke to me held a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. [16] The city was square, its length the same as (also) its width. He measured the city with the rod and found it fifteen hundred miles in length and width and height. [17] He also measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits according to the standard unit of measurement the angel used. [18] The wall was constructed of jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass. [19] The foundations of the city wall were decorated with every precious stone; the first course of stones was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, [20] the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh hyacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. [21] The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made from a single pearl; and the street of the city was of pure gold, transparent as glass. [22] I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God almighty and the Lamb. (CCC 1197) Christ is the true temple of God, "the place where his glory dwells"; by the grace of God, Christians also become the temples of the Holy Spirit, living stones out of which the Church is built. (CCC 1179) The worship "in Spirit and in truth" (Jn 4:24) of the New Covenant is not tied exclusively to any one place. The whole earth is sacred and entrusted to the children of men. What matters above all is that, when the faithful assemble in the same place, they are the "living stones," gathered to be "built into a spiritual house" (1 Pet 2:4-5). For the Body of the risen Christ is the spiritual temple from which the source of living water springs forth: incorporated into Christ by the Holy Spirit, "we are the temple of the living God" (2 Cor 6:16). (CCC 1048) "We know neither the moment of the consummation" of the earth and of man, nor the way in which the universe will be transformed. The form of this world, distorted by sin, is passing away, and we are taught that God is preparing a new dwelling and a new earth in which righteousness dwells, in which happiness will fill and surpass all the desires of peace arising in the hearts of men" (GS 39 SS 1).

Getting Ready To Die

Getting Ready To Die
Death is not a popular or comfortable topic in most of North America. Our popular culture is obsessed with unnatural youthfulness and everything is done to keep death hidden away from our minds, our eyes, and our ears. Death must be acknowledged if our lives are to be lived meaningfully.

The greatest preparation for death is to live a full life here on earth. For the Christian, fullness of life is found in loving God and loving our neighbor (Matthew 22:36-40). Some people die without warning, for them the only preparation for their death is the content and character of their lives.

However, many people are aware that they are coming closer to death. This could be because of illness, advanced age, or violent circumstances. When we know that death is coming we should prepare ourselves as best we can.

This involves four basic steps:

"#1 Trust in Christ." Be assured that you have professed belief in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Recognize it's His death and His resurrection that gives you the guarantee of your resurrection to eternal life. It's not unusual for people to have attended church their whole life yet never made a personal commitment to Christ.

"#2 Wrap Your Earthly Affairs." When you know that death is coming soon it's important to take care of your earthly affairs. Hopefully, you'll have already written a will and made your wishes known to your family. But at this point you need to finalize these matters so you can focus on the final transition from this life to the next.

"#3. Make your Confession." It's important as death approaches to come clean with God, with friends and family. Seek to make amends where possible. Make sure to tell the people in your life that you love them. Also, many Christians have benefited from making a final private confession with their parish priest. This is a way of spiritually cleaning house before you enter into the fuller presence of God.

"#4. Receive Holy Communion and Prayer on a regular basis." Plus seek encouragement from your pastor, church, and family. Seek to accept that your time here on earth is done, and that you are now moving on to the nearer presence of God. Relish the time you have remaining. Make a point to bless others each day.

Christians believe that Jesus overcame death through His life, death and resurrection. This is a great consolation for the believer (for more on what happens when you die click here). It does not, however, remove the necessity to prepare ourselves for death.

Your Calling Finding That Passion Again

Your Calling Finding That Passion Again
To value the potential wrapped up in your calling, will take seeing your ministry as a spiritual counterpart to an old-time country doctor. This qualify country doctor does he duties of delivering babies, saw children through their growing up years, give them preventative shots, cures their fevers, listened to their dreams, help them through puberty and pimples, taught them the facts of life, attend their weddings, deliver their children and then started the cycle again for the new generation.

However, he was often frustrated by his failures, underpaid by his patients, poorly equipped by technology and not especially viewed as an important professional by his peers in big city hospitals.

But as he live his life, he had the incredible joy of knowing he save Tim's life, brought Margie and her baby through difficult labor, sat up all night as Granny changed worlds and prescribe healing medicine to make Jack feel better in a few days.

Your calling has a similar impact on caring out the mission; however, a calling has a much greater exhilaration than the country doctor. Un like the country doctor, the calling points people to Christ, enable others to make sense of life, preserve cracking marriages, teach faith to children, hold the hands of dying saints and share a holy partnership with Christ, The privileges and accomplishments are miraculous.

Finding that passion again may be an adolescent, illogical or even utopian return to what never was, something like your first puppy love for the girl next door, or a crush on your kindergarten teacher. On a more satisfying level, a rekindled realistic love for your ministry may be more like a long list of reason to be in love on a legal pad after being married for a decade or even half a century.

To find that passion again requires a return to the basic of ministry. The questions you must ask your self are:

Who called you?

Who started you in this work?

How does work leak out of ministry?

What will it take to make your passion your most compelling motivation

again?

Has secular culture strangled significance out of Christian service for you?

You must never forget that your call is more than an honorable profession, a praiseworthy dedication or even a commendable way of life. Rather it is a tender, life giving relationship between the savior and a shepherd. A call to ministered starts and can accomplish incredible achievement beyond your wildest dreams because of such a personal relationship between God and the one who He called.

Innovator. Trendsetter. Author and entrepreneur. These are just a few words to describe Carl Mathis. While some may know him as a minister and a teacher, others have become fond of him through one of his written work, Life is What You Make It: Seven Steps to Moving Forward. Soul Leading Body Following Trusting

Soul Leading Body Following Trusting The Guidance To Dance
DR. CARA BARKER

Author, Analyst, Keynotes, Founder of The Love Project, Love Fests and Retreats Posted: 06/06/2012 7:50 am

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take,

but by the moments that take your breath away.
" - Author unknown

We are here to serve the purpose of a greater design, expressing spirit whole-heartedly. But how do we "get there" from where we are? How do we galvanize the courage to stop straddling the fence? The answer comes in infinite ways. For some, it speaks through the body.

Soul calling, body listening. However your soul calls you to move forward, do it. Saying "no" leads to complication. Eventually the body gives feedback. It's not a pretty picture. Years ago, when I refused to leave a corporate setting that "cramped my style," my body said "no more" by creating spinal difficulty, requiring hospitalization and down time for five months. Afraid to give up outer security the deeper self kicks in, gives feedback. It is a repeat story in those I know.

Symptoms are our friend. If we listen, they can help us shift the way we creatively express ourselves, to reclaim the original authority of leadership in our own lives. The body does not punish as much as support us to "course correct" along more natural lines, which lead to awe.

When decoded, our symptoms say: "Come. Enter. Enjoy. Dance in the way you love! Memorize the moment. Come home to who you are beneath outgrown rules that suffocate spirit, compress the heart."

The holy nudge toward creative living meets resistance. The head says: "No, don't you dare!" Ego wants to play safe, fighting our best self compelled for growth. To give yourself permission to expand calls up fear.

We are social beings, regardless how introverted we may be. The worst pain is to be shunned. No one wants ridicule. But, as Carl Jung once said: "Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens." You get to choose.

Awakening to our own metaphorical "dance" entails deepening self-compassion and a sense of humor. We've got to give up our begging bowl. Turns out that the approval cup has a hole in it, anyway. Rule #1 in my group studio puts it this way: "Forget comparing your painting. It is yours, and the world needs your mark." As my mama used to say: "Tend to your own knitting, sister!" Or, as the old Negro spiritual sang: "Keep your eye on the prize!"

Doing so helps restore trust in your inner GPS. Never fear when you are standing on the sidelines of your own life; you can trust your guidance system to sound the clarion call to return to who you are through body, dreams, synchronicities, attractions and upsets.

NINE HABITS TO DEEPEN TRUST

1. The soul's call seems to cry most audibly through conditions of suffering. When yesterday's shoes get too tight, change them to have free range of motion. We yearn to have freer range of motion. Now, the tricky thing is that the cry is silent, which makes it mighty hard to "hear" if we've allowed ourselves to get caught in the seduction of the world's noisy way of distracting. Let's face it: Ego has a vested interest in towing the line and is superb at fear tactics, (e.g. "What would people think if you moved through life that way?" (See archives: "What to Do While Searching for Your Soul's Misplaced GPS.") Cultivate the habit of trusting something will come to assist you even through suffering.

2. Before you can say "kazam," we forget what we used to know as children We forget whom we are, that we are here to evolve into expansive ways of creatively contributing. Simply put, we forget our original nature. Cultivate the habit of moving toward what brings you simple joy.

3. Recall and reclaim the original meaning of education, which is "to uncover" what is known in the depths. Learning is not about buckling under heavy rules and regulations. This bears little resemblance to the Delphic Oracle, which said: "Know thyself." When we know ourselves beneath the ego, we know the beloved, and we are free. Ask yourself: What can you practice learning that will liberate you from the shackles of who you aren't and launch you into your hidden, unlived life which promises joy? This is your life curriculum.

4. Inner knowing never fails to guide. Cultivate your connection to it. The saving grace comes when, in the heat of profound suffering, an instinct urges awakening by doing what seems impossible to ego: bearing witness to the teachings of fierce love.

By way of example, nanoseconds before hearing the news that my son, 2,000 miles away, had been in a horrific accident that would lead to his death hours later, I felt the strongest nudge to memorize the moment before hearing the messages on the answering machine. Something greater than my little self knew that I'd better do just this. As I "took five" in my car, on a visceral level I could feel a silent presence whispering "what you are about to face will change everything." I did as guided. Ten minutes later, having picked up the message from the hospital, reeling from shock, that same wee small voice, barely audible, urged me to: "Memorize this moment. Witness this suffering. Step aside. Let it wash through. Know what this is. Write from it. Paint it. You will need this later." I realized that the task, simultaneously, was to both experience what was before me, without shirking, while witnessing by being fully present. The call to the beloved was not coming through sugar plum fairies and angels playing harps, but through my own house going up in flames.

5. Your life has been preparing you to meet the unknown. Until that impossible moment, little did I know that meditating for more than 19 years at the time would be the saving thing. Without consciously realizing it, shock had hurled me automatically back into my spiritual practice of focusing on the breath. It was the only thing left. That also goes for prayer. When you are in shock, it is nearly impossible to connect with words, for they are but cobwebs. But connection with soul? That is an entirely different matter. The soul knows, with impeccability, how to lead us back to the dance when we have lost our way. Of course, first we have to ask.

6. Find the practice that's right for you. Devote time to this discovery. No one's way is better than another's. The key is cultivating a lifelong relationship with whatever speaks to your deepest self. My own began with the contemplative through prayer, meditation, leading to engaged meditation through art-making in studio life and garden, and silent retreat. Your way is your way. Those who allow the soul to lead practice whatever deepens faith in the stillness, facilitating dropping down into subterranean levels of being. Trust what comes.

7. The tricky thing is that to take this on, like the shaman, you must be willing to endure worldly suspicion that you have lost your mind. The path is not going to win you, or me, any popularity votes.

As case in point: Nearly 40 years ago, after I had launched my own endeavor to relocate my soul's dancing GPS, it came to me that I needed to make amends to a group of people whom I had judged. As synchronicity would have it, opportunity arose to "set things right" (as opposed to "see things rightly"). An invitation arrived to attend a luncheon with people I'd judged: the country club set. Carpe diem. Immediately following the entertainment, the speaker on gardening called for comments. I should have seen rightly. Ah, well. My moment, or so I believed, had arrived. Taking the microphone, I confessed that I had been a weed in their garden from my judgments, and wished for their forgiveness. They fled faster than rats from the Titanic. By the time I arrived at my mother's, she'd already received a phone call (as had my sister across the country) that surely I must be having a meltdown.

Truth telling is a matter for discernment. As Freud said long ago: "Timing and dosage is everything." Mine was poor. Time and place are vital to consider. While my intention may have been a good one, the address was misdirected. I was young, what can I say? While I did not realize it at the time, the "one" that needed forgiveness was the judging me within myself, the one who kept me doubting my own soul's way of dancing, which was a very different tango than the country club's.

Perhaps, you, too, have "put your foot" in the caca from time to time, tracking it into the house? Tell me I'm not alone.

8. Remember that even what stinks turns out to be compost if we are willing to go with it. When it comes through humiliation, this is our moment to take a breath, witness from a larger perspective, shed ego's need for approval and find our own with humor. There will always be those who point fingers. But the worst offensives are the voices of self-blame that stop us from our own dance. Pride doeth go before dawning the beginner's dancing shoes.

9. Practice the habit of trusting "seeing rightly" rather than rushing out to "set things right." Wisdom takes time. The more we are willing to do this, the more we liberate our lives to create acts of beauty and connection. Nearly 40 years ago, one of my mentors, Elisabeth Kubler Ross said to me during my residency: "If only we would learn to sing and dance together, the world would be in a different place." She said this before her llama farm was burned down by outraged people who refused to accept the work she was doing with babies because they were AIDS babies. Even after the horror of her heartbreak, she confided in me that the answer to all that ails us is that willingness to look foolish, to come into the dance and song with one another, regardless.

The question is, are you willing? Going first risks looking stupid. But, as a resident fool for love, I say, "so what?" Who cares? The joy is in the dance. And, guess what? The real momentum begins in a way you'd never expect. Watch the following and let's get a conversation going. Who's willing to go first, second? The power of joining is stronger than you think. We need not always be first to make a difference.

Woah there, slow down - You cannot do it all in one day, or one week, or even in one year! In fact, most authentic Wiccans study for a MINIMUM of "a year and a day" before they can even be Initiated.

It is NOT a good idea to attempt spellcraft until you have MASTERED the BASICS (of psychic skills) - ie Centering, Grounding, psychic Cleansing, Shielding, creating sacred Space (casting Circle), Visualizations, etc -

And stop worrying about getting tools (like a wand) just yet - Right now, you need to focus on learning and mastering the BASICS of information and skills. I would most strongly advise you to find a good High Priest or High Priestess Teacher and Coven - that's the best way to learn (traditional) Wicca; only the most superficial information is even avaialable publically in
You also need to know that being accepted as a student is not necessarily a foregone conclusion, either - Again, you must REQUEST training, and the teacher will probably want to talk with you and get acquainted a bit, before deciding to accept (or reject) you as a student - It very much depends upon your maturity, wisdom, self-discipline, willingness to work hard, take instruction, study, etc.

RESOURCES ON WICCA:

1. CoG - Covenant of the Goddess -
- a Pagan (not just Wiccan) Sanctuary, working farm, and Learning Center. It offers training, workshops, festivals, networking, and sponsors other organizations (notably, "Lady Liberty League" (
- One of the better Yahoo groups with several High Priests and Priestess members, so there are lots of good discussions and good information available in both the online discussions, and the Files section.

Earth Magic Oracle Cards

Click On The Images To View Larger"This is quite a tough post to write as it contains some deeply personal information. Information that is not generally shared...BUT...

In order to Transform...Grow...and Learn we must sometimes face those things we'd much rather sweep under the proverbial rug. I also feel strongly in sharing our stories because it is within these stories we can connect, heal and know we are not alone.

As of late, my life has been in turmoil and chaos. Two things I strive to not allow entrance into my life. Life, on the other hand, will make it's presence known if there are things we choose to deny, hide or push away what we fear or are too painful to confront. It is only until we seek to heal those wounds or seek for those answers, our lives will not only remain the same but it will also remain in a state of chaos.

I prefer to live Happy! How about you?

It has been hard to go through the day without wanting to climb in bed and go back to sleep. To be fully alone. Not wanting a single person around!

It is even hard to want to meditate, perform Reiki self-healing or even finish my crystal classes (I'm SO close to finishing) all the while knowing these are the things I need the most to move forward and to stay healthy.

Eating is also a chore. All the everyday things we do become exaggerated and move in slow motion...

And it hurts...

The Heart and Spirit Hurt...

In desperate need of guidance, I looked to my Earth Magic Oracle Deck. At first I only pulled one card to work with for the day but after what the card revealed, I decided to sit and do a reading.

Here is the first card I chose before moving onto my reading:

Lightning~Power

"We see power all around us. It's in the mountains, meadows, and clouds-in fact, in every expression of Nature-yet there isn't a more dramatic display of Nature's power than Lightning...Lightning sharpens our senses and triggers fear and awe. This demonstration of the Power of Creation is yet another way to remind us that we are not in control of the natural world"-Steven Farmer-Earth Magic Oracle Cards

The power is available to you, the force of Life itself, is neutral. It is neither good or bad. It just is. I feel this card invoked in me the understanding that no matter what, we only have control over ourselves. Through our own Spirituality can we change and grow.

For those who make the choice NOT to utilize the power they have within themselves, no matter how much your heart breaks. It is completely up the individual to walk their own path. And as a mother, I need to learn to allow that to unfold however it may.

I have faced this lesson time and again and although logically I know this, sometimes the heart gets in the way and makes it hard to accept that some things just are. When you love someone so much it hurts (as in your children) it is only then you realize it's time to detach with love. At least that is what they say and what I have attempted to try and do...One of my life's most difficult lessons.

BUT HOW?

We have loved our children from the moment we find out we are pregnant until our last breath and we dream of giving them a wonderful life and the tools so they, themselves can prosper and grow. What happens when your dreams and reality hit? Life!

One of the ways to harness your own power can be through ritual and mindful meditation. Getting as close to Spirit as you can in whatever way works for you. It is having Faith that the Universe and our Creator will answer our prayers.

Today's Oracle Layout:

Card 1-Represents the Issue

Mountain~Strength

"The massiveness of the mountain evokes a sense of impenetrable and immovable strength and stature. A mountain's quiet, resolute immensity leaves us in awe and inspires us to reach for greater heights. Yet, it can also pose challenges."-Steven Farmer-Earth Magic Oracle Cards"It makes no sense to deny the strength you have at the cost of allowing yourself to be reactive and subject to external influences far beyond what is healthy for you. The current situation calls for you to be diligent, but to the point of fear or paranoia."-Steven Farmer-Earth Magic Oracle Cards"Standing steady as a rock is what is called for now. Cultivating a solid resolve and not breakdown into an emotional mess. In the past, as hard as I tried, I could easily be swayed even when knowing if I did would be detrimental to my peace of mind.

My present circumstance needs for me to feel the mountains strong presence, their unwillingness to yield, their slow dependability. Meditating about how the mountains strength could help me strengthen my resolve and purpose.

Feeling its ancient earth presence and knowing that where ever I am, I am connected to this strength.

Card 2-Subconscious influence of which you are unaware

Earth Magic Oracle Cards

Iceberg~Submerged

"Although the top most portion of an iceberg can easily be seen, there's still a massive amount of its body below the water that may be difficult to detect. And that which remains unseen can fool us and perhaps even be dangerous and damaging."-Steven Farmer-Earth Magic Oracle CardsWhatever is suppressed or denied will continue to show up somehow, somewhere and usually at the most inopportune times.

Truth be told, I have submerged my life in a lot of shame and guilt. Shame for some of the choices I have made that in turn caused damage to the two people I love more than anything else...My Children! Parenting through shame and guilt does not make a very pretty picture.

Guilt for allowing people and situations to dictate my life and not leaving sooner. Submerged in anger at myself for not being there emotionally at the times I was needed. This is YEARS in the making and sifting through all the layers has been a slow and painstaking process.

Submerged in deep seated anger at my ex for tearing apart my children and the naive person I was allowing it to happen all the while thinking...hoping and praying that tomorrow will get better!

Submerged in self-hate for years and years. Living with the *if only's*, wishing that I can could start over...

But I can and I did! Through the Grace of the Divine Source, I stumbled my way through the mess and out to the other side unscathed...Well, somewhat!.

Transformed and New!

In today's reading though I find that I am still submerged in those same feelings of shame and guilt. Maybe not as intense but they still linger and it is up to me only to confront, move through and heal.

Card 3-External influence of which you are aware

Earth Magic Oracle Cards

Tsunami~Wake-Up Call (I have received this card TWICE now)

"This message reminds me of the lessons of the Root Chakra, to follow your instincts. This week it is time to examine if we are ignoring, avoiding, or denying something or someone in our lives. Somewhere in your gut my words are penetrating to a place that is stirring something in you, something that says, move, and this is our deep inherit instinct. This wake-up call does not have to be a scary thing, in fact it can become worse by avoiding the issue, because you are denying yourself relief from this fear; and fear is limiting. Respond to your wake-up call and find your relief."-My Reiki LifeLike I said before this card has come up twice for me now and it is BLARING and SCREAMING at me. If I were to be brutally honest I would have to say that I need to get my head out of the sand (nicer way of putting it) and stop pushing aside those issues surrounding my daughter and begin to walk through it~

The only way to the other side of any problem is not to go around it, or under it, or over it..One Must Walk Through it to get to the other side.

My feelings do not matter. It is my daughter's feelings and happiness that matter and although I am supportive of her, my own fears and thoughts get in the way. For my daughter's happiness to grow, she needs her Mom there 100%...Present and Accounted For!

In regards to my son, this is a true wake-up call for me to finally learn Detachment With Love...As hard and heart-breaking at times it will be, the only way to my own piece of mind is to find resolution within myself to Love him as much as I do but to stop enabling him and allow him to walk his own path, however painful it may be.

No matter how painful the process is for me! It's time for me to Live too!

Card 4-What is required for resolution

Earth Magic Oracle Cards

Rainbow~Blessings

"Rainbow's hold the promise of tomorrow, our dreams, abundance and freedom from stress. So remember that tomorrow will never come, there is only ever today so make the most of now and enjoy doing it!Capture that essence of childhood that is still there within you and try and keep it at the forefront of your thoughts and feelings today. So you have a problem? OK, weigh it down with all your blessings. Problems are just stepping stones to a calm, peaceful and abundant life. They could even be called blessings themselves."-Indigo's Reading Blog Remember that rainbows can even straddle mountains and melt icebergs!

Through everything I have been confronted with as of late, the one thing that has become my Mantra-My Daily Prayer is The Five Reiki Precepts:

Just For Today I Will Not WorryJust For Today I Will Not AngerI Will Count my Many BlessingsI Will Do My Work HonestlyI Will Be Kind To All Living Creatures!

Every obstacle...Every Problem Holds Lessons For Us All and I Choose To Look For Those Lessons With an Open Heart and Mind!

Card 5-Resolution

Shaman~Ancient Healing Wisdom

"The solid presence of this Native American man, there is no judgement, no ego, just the sense of a strong inner knowing. The role of the Shaman is to heal, and to do this takes work on the spirit level. "All illnesses, whether physical, emotional, or psychological, stem from an illness of Spirit." We can look at our relationship with Spirit and examine if we need to heal on some level.According to Dr. Farmer, a Shaman lives his life in ceremony, with reverence for all living things"-My Reiki LifeI am not surprised at seeing this card as the Resolution for my present circumstances.

Delving into Spirit...

Connect With Spirit...

Having Faith and Truly Believing in Spirit and Within Myself!

Reiki has opened this up for me on a level I wish I could adequately describe. Through my work as a Reiki Practitioner in combination with utilizing the healing power of crystal healing, Spirit has been talking to me all along.

I think now is the time Spirit and I have a Deep Conversation!

Day 10 The Great Pacific Northwest Adventure

Day 10 The Great Pacific Northwest Adventure
Day 10-Saturday, July 4th-The Great Pacific Northwest Adventure

We originally planned to go to Portland's Blues Festival and see their big fireworks display at 10pm, with friends from Dugan's preschool days. But the weather was extremely hot, and the guys had to get up at 5am for their flight back home on Sunday, so we scaled back our ambitious plans and celebrated a low key 4th instead.

Sorry to our old school friend, Baxter, and his family. We would have loved to hang out and catch up. Hope to see ya next time, either out there or on the Chicago end of the magic, underground worm hole, between various cool cities. (He's our gymnastics friend from toddler days and our Montessori preschool and skate park buddy from half the kids' life times ago. Funny how 4 years isn't much when you're over 40, but it's interminably ancient history when you're 8.)

We also missed running into kids Gaia and Apollo, former Chicago Hip Family Friends of ours, who's family moved from Chicago to study micro brewing in Germany. We lost track of them, but they resurfaced living close to my sister in Hillsboro and frequenting the little park where she walks her dogs (pictured at the end of this post)! She just mentioned them by chance, never dreaming we'd actually KNOW them. They just moved again within the city, less than a month ago, so we couldn't track 'em down and didn't bump into them. We would have loved to catch up with them, too. (More worm hole theory.)

So, instead of seeking out relocated Chicagoans, we checked out small town 4th of July at it's best. The Hillsboro parade route goes right in front of my sister, Maia's, home. And people get crazy about staking out spots at the crack of dawn. The first year she lived there, she awoke early to find a family had set up a tent in her front yard, obscuring her view, and was busily frying bacon!

This year, John was proactive and put chairs out and roped off the front yard the night before. As the parade began, we hustled to erect a shade tent, which got a lotta thumbs up from marchers, drooling over our patch of cool shade. Small town parades have such a different vibe than the big city variety.

The kids caught bulging bags full of candy and enjoyed blowing bubbles at the passing floats.

We saw a unicorn, palm trees made from evergreen boughs for Robin Hood's forest (?), and various patriotic incarnations of Uncle Sam, including one with a big fake piece of cotton taped over his very real, Uncle Sam style white goatee. The gymnasts, dance troupes, marching bands, vacation bible schools, church barbecue promoters, politicians, vintage car enthusiasts, war veterans and civil servants were out en mass.

To some, patriotism means waving tiny American flags made in China or building a squadron of fighter jets from balloons. To others, it is the American right to drive Hummers and giant Hot Wheels toys for rich kids. To some, Patriotism is Homeland Security footing the bill for overkill riot gear vehicles, so the local, small town Sheriff can serve and protect in style.

To others, patriotism is pride in your job, keeping the streets free of garbage, or having the freedom to clear cut large swaths of old growth forests.

To some, it is the right to openly and peacefully protest, whether you're left wing, right wing or a wing nut. To others, it's having a president again who clearly believes in the separation of church and state, that our founding fathers declared necessary for good government.

To us, it is embracing America's diversity, and unique, far ranging mesh of lifestyles and religions, and realizing we have something to learn from everyone.

After the parade, we had a shade tent raising, and 4 of us picked it up and walked it to my sister's back yard. We celebrated with a small barbecue with family and friends, fresh berries from the farmer's market, and Tillamook chocolate ice cream.

The kids created a wacky play with costumes and a creative cast of characters. There was Knee Man, the mystic master who sent the kids on quests. The Moss Grouch, The Shoe of Unhappiness, The Purple Wave of Happiness and Unhappiness, The Unicorn and The Cat and The Masked Creature.

That evening, we donned glow bracelets and necklaces and walked to the local park to play with a balsa wood airplane that the kids caught at the parade. Then they took a last bunch of turns on the teeter totters and merry go round, both "dangerous" park gear, that no longer exist in any of the Chicago play lots I know of.

This may be the only time in their childhoods that they can spin around on a merry go round and watch fireworks fill the night sky.

They also loved the geodesic dome, based on the famous designs by Chicagoan, Buckminster Fuller. I don't think they've been declared dangerous, but I can't think of a Chicago play lot with one of these fun and functional pieces, either. Bucky's the one who described our planet as "Spaceship Earth", a contained system where we need to have clean and uncontaminated air, food and water to survive. He was a smart man with revolutionary designs, way ahead of his time.

The DIY firecrackers and fireworks were fewer and farther between than the urban barrage we're used to. But, we took a night walk and found a good curb perch where we saw quite a few. We sang and laughed while the kids butchered old Queen lyrics..."Recommend an octopus? Insatiable in appetite." And laughed some more. We drank mugs of red wine and enjoyed the pyrotechnics and scent of burning powder. At one point the smoke trails from some larger blooms trailed across the nearly full moon, and star spangled sky. And it was beautiful.

Hello dear readers,

I'll try to present my book "I found it" as follows:

Chapter 11

...He went to the Baltic Sea in his mind - across all the Baltic States: Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia where approximately a million people stood arm in arm in a human chain of about six hundred kilometers "Cross" mark...That painting did not have any equivalent through all eras and in all styles of painting because it did not have any style. That picture breaths freedom with any person individually and personally in one totality. It reflects the goal achieved through gaining freedom from the span of Soviet totalitarianism during the course of history. He thanked God for the ability to enjoy peace without slavery together with all the people in free Lithuania. The Jews enjoyed similar freedom after they had been freed from Egyptian slavery and God a little child of the Nation had been taken to the Promised Land, Israel. Political slavery was abolished together with the Soviet tanks in Lithuania, the amber land mourned by Mary, in 1991. Pope John Paul II came and blessed Lithuania 1993. The amber land of Saint Mary Lithuania belongs to the only God.Halleluiah!...

The story of a man called John Strazdas, a young man in Lithuania, a beautiful little country which was once a part of the communist and faithless Soviet Union, is so expansively told that it transcends from being the story of just a man to being the story of an entire nation and its people.

And indeed, it's a story of Christianity, of a young man's deep, all-abiding faith in Jesus Christ, how it inspires him to reach out for a morality of the highest order, of his dreams and passion for his country, and his people.

This book is not a quick read, and it requires an understanding of philosophy, theology and a deep faith in God to truly capture the beautiful essence of this remarkable book, to truly understand the journey of young John Strazdas.

There is so much going on in this book, what held my attention most was the clash between opposing ideologies, between Christianity and Atheism, as was practiced by the Communists of the old Soviet Union. I was astounded by the writer's brilliantly thought out arguments made through his protagonist on why Christianity is such a beautiful faith, and why "Faith" always triumphs over the "faithless".

With great happiness, I give 5 stars to an outstanding book and a truly wonderful effort by the writer, Levas.

ALL OUR VERY BEST,

"LEVAS"

St Stephen Of Perm 1349 1396

St Stephen Of Perm 1349 1396
Anna Kuznetsova, "St. Stephen of Perm: Missionary and Popular Saint," in "The Man of Many Devices, Who Wandered Full Many Ways: Festschrift in Honor of J'anos M. Bak" (Budapest: Central European University Press, 1999), pp. 222-229 (at 226, notes omitted):This story is combined with another one about St.

Stephen's destroying the birch tree specially venerated by pagans and even new converts. The saint decided to cut the tree down and he did it over three days. When he began cutting the birch, various voices were heard screaming and asking him to leave them in peace. As Stephen was unable to complete his project on the first day, in the evening he left his axe in the tree and went away.

Next morning, to his surprise, the birch appeared untouched and the axe was next to it on the ground. However, on the third day St. Stephen managed to cut down the tree and he threw it into the water. The fall of the birch was followed by a great storm and even an earthquake...On the place where the birch tree stood, St.

Stephen built a church dedicated to Michael the Archangel. When the old wooden church was dismantled in 1787, the stump of the birch tree was discovered. It was used as the altar, probably the idea of St. Stephen himself. The source of this legend is Petr Sestakov, "Svjatoj Stefan, pervosvjatitel' Permskij" [St.

Stephen, the first bishop of Perm
] (Kazan: Universitetskaja tipografia, 1868), pp. 38-40, according to Kuznetsova, n. 28 on p. 229.

The "Life of St. Stephen of Perm" by Epiphanius the Wise (died 1420) apparently also contains See also Alexander Chuvyurov, "Trees in Komi (Zyrian) Rituals and Beliefs, Pro Ethnologia" 18 (2004) 69-86 (at 69-70, notes omitted):In the hagiography of St.

Stephen of Perm it is mentioned that in Ust-Vym, on the bank of the Vym River, there stood a big birch tree especially worshipped by local people. As the author of the hagiography says, this tree was so big that three people were hardly able to encircle its trunk with their arms (Povest... 1996:68).

According to the same source, the Permians (Komi-Zyrians) took sacrificial animals and hides to this tree. The Komi-Zyrians worshipped this tree as a deity, maintaining that any disrespectful act towards itthreatened people with all kinds of troubles (Povest... 1996: 69). Several legends have been passed down describing how St.

Stephen of Perm chopped this birch tree down. The aforementioned story, about St.Stephen of Perm, presents a colourful description of this event. According to this source, St. Stephen was chopping this birch for three days, and in the course of this process the birch, like a living creature, uttered cries of pain reminding people of the voices of men, women and children.

During chopping, blood streamed out of the tree (Povest... 1996: 69). As the birch was so big, the saint was not able to chop it down on the first day. He drove his axe into the tree and went to have a rest. When morning came and he returned to the tree, he saw that it was standing undamaged, but his axe, which he had left stuck in the trunk, was lying on the ground, next to the birch tree (Povest...

1996: 69
). And it was only on the third day that the saint, according to the source, was able to chop down the birch tree, worshipped by the Komi-Zyrians, and it fell on the ground, crying and groaning loudly. The tree was burnt right after it had been chopped down. Later on, St. Stephen of Perm had a church erected on the site of this birch tree in the honour of the holy archistrateges Michael and Gabriel (Gavriil) (Povest...

1996: 70).Unfortunately, I can't find complete translations of primary sources, only these summaries.
