I Love But Get Castigated

I Love But Get Castigated For My Enneagram Type 4 Traits
I'm going to have something published in a chronic illness zine, and I need to write a brief bio for the bio section.

This morning, I shared a sample bio for it with my boyfriend. He said that I was being too open about my interest in spirituality and that I should keep it professional and targeted to the audience, who will be interested in health. This makes sense to me, and I'm fine with it.

But I do have this deep sadness about getting yet another dose of negative feedback about something I actually value in myself - my self-knowledge and openness about myself.

I get so much negative feedback for being open, yet I occasionally get positive feedback, and either way, it's just a big part of who I think I am, and I don't anticipate it changing anytime soon.

I just like sharing what goes on inside me. I feel more real when I know that other people know about my ideas, or even better, that they agree with me or feel the same way.

It's a classic issue for Enneagram Type 4s. We like to express ourselves.

It's frustrating to live in a society where this type of expression is not only not especially valued, but where it's seen as unprofessional and dangerous to one's career, which is so based on image these days.

I think that if there's one Enneagram type that has a hard time in modern western society, it's the Type 4.

We tend toward melancholy, which this society
We are not afraid to admit to the negative things in our nature, which is a huge liability in this society, where employers can use anything (including facebook and online presence) as evidence in evaluating how well we meet their semi-fascist employment standards.

Sure, we have "free speech" in this country, but that's just about government control. When it comes to the control of employers, there's an enormous amount of indirect control.

Lastly, we type 4s tend to be suited for careers involving emotional expression, such as writing or art. These careers are not especially valued in this society. It's hard to make money at these careers. The work of artists is seen as unnecessary in our practical, achievement- and numbers-oriented society.

It's bad enough to be a member of this "undesirable" Enneagram personality type.

What makes it harder is that I'm dating someone who has the personality type that our society most values: type 3.

So these things that are so hard for me: presenting a professional image, withholding negative information about myself, and fitting into high-paying careers; he does with extreme ease.

I can't believe the extent to which my boyfriend is able to present a good image of himself. I would cringe and break down if I had to do the sorts of things he does. I'm amazed at how much he is able to change how he acts for his audience. He's also very achievement-oriented (I am not), which makes it easy for him in our success-oriented society.

If nothing else, he helps me to see a different (and often opposite) way of doing things. I hope that I help him to open up about his real feelings and to feel good about himself regardless of what he does or doesn't accomplish.

- - -

It's just kind of depressing to live in a society that doesn't value the good things about my personality type - that doesn't value what I most value in myself - not to mention castigates me for doing things that come naturally to me.

I said to my boyfriend as he left the house today, "Maybe I'll come out ahead, because I'll do a career where being so self-knowing and emotionally honest will be an advantage."

He said back to me, simultaneously joking but in all seriousness: "Well, good luck finding a career in which being so open is an advantage." I think he meant that he didn't think my personality traits could be an advantage in any career.

I said back, "Writing, duh!" I wanted to add, "And careers are not the only thing that matters. It's not like the point of life is career success. What about spiritual growth?"

Thou Art God

Thou Art God
"Thou Art God:" Peccavimins Without Contrition
Michael E. Hurley, Priest, Church of All Worlds

In the Church of All Worlds, the concept of "Thou Art God is the key concept of our philosophy. By examining this concept its origins, its meanings and its implications, one can approach in understanding the full scope of the Neo-Pagan thought.

When Mike Smith first uttered this phrase in Stranger In A Strange Land, Jubal was taken completely aback. His shock was a typical reaction from a person taught from infancy to imagine God as something separate, outside of man. Mike had a completely different viewpoint.

Being raised by the Martians, Mike had absorbed their bask assumptions (or knowledge) of the nature of the universe. When Jubal tried to explain the concept of God to Mile, Mike placed the word in the only concept-frame he knew-the Martian frame.

On Mars, Mike explains, the Martians themselves do all that humans usually associate with God. They "teach the plants to grow," they manage their world, hand down infallible instructions and generally act divine. When Mike heard that these activities were associated with the English word "God,," he made the logical conclusion: since his former people did these things and since his present people -said God did these things, it was simple to say `Thou Art God, I am God, all that groks is god."

For Mike Smith this was as obvious a fact of reality as breathing. He was baffled that his human brothers did not immediately accept (or know) this. Even after years of work with men he still remained puzzled:
"No matter what I said they insisted on thinking of God as something outside themselves. Some-thing that yearns to take every indolent moron to His breast and comfort him. The notion that the effort has to be their own.. and that the trouble they are in is all their own doing.. is one they can't or won't entertain.".

Mike's whole self-ordained mission was to help people realize their own nature and the nature of the world around them. 'Mike is like the first man to discover fire. Fire was there all along - after he showed them how, anybody could use it... Mike is our Prometheus.' He offered no panaceas, no instant cures. His followers had to accept a discipline and work at it. All the benefits the Nest members received were the result of "conceptual logic...understand who you are, why you're here, how you tick - and behaving accordingly."

The prime concept Mike taught - using a dozen methods and hidden in a score of definitions - was I AM GOD, THOU ART GOD, ALL THAT GROKS IS GOD. "It's not a message of cheer and hope. It's a defiance - and an unafraid unabashed assumption of personal responsibility."

In this challenge, in this hour of freedom, in this acceptance of
responsibility, we have the whole essence of Mike's philosophy, But, as Mike and Jubal and Stinky Mahmoud admit~ the words fail to immediately express the fullness of the concept. However, on one occasion Jubal redefines the concept in such a way as to open up some of the ramifications of THOU ART GOD.

In discussing the idea with Ben, Jubal says, 'thou art God'...It's the universe proclaiming its self-awareness... or it's 'peccavimus' with a total absence of contrition." This statement leads to a whole new interpretation of the concept.

Mike Smith preaches the concept of a pantheistic universe. This is the most obvious implication of his declaration 'All that groks is God." His first naive statements show this:
'You grok. Anne groks. I grok. The grasses under my feet grok in happy beauty
... Thou art God...that which groks. Anne is God, I am God. The happy grasses are God...Jill is god. All shaping and making and creating together.'"

All life that is, is God and of God. it is all God collectively. Some elements are more self-aware than others, but they are all God. As stated above, Mikes problem was to awaken those around him into an awareness of their divinity. Once they realized that they were part of the pantheistic wholeness of themselves and the world, they could grok the fullness of THOU ART GOD.

This first step of self-awareness is a fulfillment of the perennial challenge:
'Know thyself" It is an existential assertion of "I AM."

It is an answer to the eternal inquiry into the nature of the universe.

But moving to a more sophisticated level of understanding, there is Jubal's definition: "Peccavimus' with a total absence of contrition." In grokking this statement, one may gain a deeper insight into THOU ART GOD.

'Peccavimus' is a word of Latin origin meaning 'a confession or acknowledgment of sin.* (literally, 'we have sinned") There is an obvious difference between confession as an act and acknowledging it. Confession entertains the idea of sorrow or repentance, whereas acknowledgment is merely a statement of fact with no moral judgement added. Jubal is very careful to add that this particular sort of "peccavimus" is one without contrition, without guilt or sorrow. This seems to eliminate the confession aspect of the definition, leaving us with mere acknowledgment.

But what of sin? The definition of sin is 'a willful violation of the will of God.' But in Mikes teachings we am all collectively God. How can one violate ones own will? Each individual freely chooses to perform acts and does them; he has obeyed the will of 'God" and has not 'sinned.' Even if~ at the moment of execution, the individual should do something other than his first thought, that alternate action would have to be an act of will. To go against ones will is a psychological impossibility. Thus when we define God pantheistically, the idea of sin becomes cancelled through contradiction.

If the concepts of sin and contrition no longer apply to this particular definition of peccavimus, why did Jubal choose it? Obviously, Jubal grokked more of the essence of the idea than he would admit because he uses this definition in a very special context.

Those-who-are-gods cannot commit sin in the usual sense; this point is made several times in the novel. Aunt Patty, in her description of a Fosterite Happiness meeting, illustrates this idea of no-sin-among-gods (Le. the saved).
Later Jubal observes the same about Mikes nest. But these people could have done wrong (sinned) in the past before they were aware of their nature. Mike in the early part of the story worries of having doing wrong when he vanished the two SS men threatening Jill. Again he faced a similar cusp when he faced Bishop Digby. In both, cases Mike was faced with possible sin; in both cases he made a choice; in both cases he grew. Later, in grokking his actions, he came to a moment of peccavimus without contrition, a moment of grokking fully the implications of his actions and of himself at that moment.

Mike says, 'Thou art God and I am god and all that groks is God, and I am all that I have ever been or seen or felt or experienced, I am all that I grok." The totality of an individuals existence is that individual, and that individual is his total existence. Whether his acts were done in love and joy or in doubt and fear, they were the acts of a self-aware God and the full responsibility for them rests only on that person.

So to say "THOU ART GOD" is at once the existential moment of self- actualization, the joyous/solemn declaration of personal responsible freedom, and the acknowledgment of the eternal unity, of Self and actions. It is not only the key that unlocks the doors of perception, -but it is also the map that guides one beyond those doors. From this understanding flows all the benefits of Mikes way, or rather from applying it to the business of living. As quoted above, from this "conceptual logic...(this) understating (of) who you am why.
you're hem how do you tick' comes the discipline that allows slumbering man to become awake God, a God overflowing with joy in life and happiness. Since
'happiness is functioning the way a' being is organized to function
" it is a logical result of grokking "THOU ART GOD".

Meditation By Jenwytch

Meditation By Jenwytch
" I suppose it would be significant to all, although just how the effects would be perceived would depend on an individual's personal beliefs and what they are "OPEN" to.

A solstice is a turning point; some people consider a lunar eclipse to be a good time for working on the emotions, for going deep into your own psyche to your inner and hidden aspects; the full moon is believed by some to be a good time for any spells, especially protection and divination, fertility, creativity, healing, knowledge, romance, anything positive that you need to increase; the full moon in Gemini would affect issues such as communication, writing, wit, study, healing and travel.

Based on the above information I personally feel that tonight would probably be a good time for opening the third eye, although I would do this as part of a whole chakra balancing and opening exercise.

The only experience I have had with opening the 3rd eye is as part of chakra opening and balancing exercises done before meditation, which is followed by closing of the chakras which should be done at the end of the meditation. Examples of this type of chakra opening can be found on this page of the Spheres Of Light website. You might like to try the very first meditation in the list, called "THE HEALING ROOM" to experience this.

I hope something here is helpful to you.

BLESSINGS,

Casting

Casting 03

RITUAL OF CASTING SACRED CIRCLE

Many times we are asked, "how do you cast a circle?" There are so many different ways that this can be done. Differs from each Tradition to the next.
Even within our own Avaloian Tradition we make improvisions on this.

The main factor is to cast a sacred space. A space that separates this world from the other. A space that we ourselves make holy. And that is what is important. A space that you set aside from all else, to glorify and exalt. For you are the one casting, cleansing, purifying, and setting it aside from all else.

Before you cast, one should make sure of the intent of casting. Ask yourself why you are doing it. Once you have this the gathering is made easier. If you are doing this with a group of people One must be chosen to be the Lord or Lady. The Lord or Lady usually has one person who waits them. This is not to say the Lord or Lady is higher than they, but the fact that they shall be the God/dess incarnate. You may also do this solitary. Depending on the amount tending.

The Lord/Lady has the sword brought to them. All else are standing outside where the circle is to be cast. The Lord/Lady takes the sword and walk deosil (clockwise) around the space to be cast. The wait has a small bell with them.
Beginning at the East, the sword, in a non-threatening manner, is raised. The wait rings the bell. All fill fall silent. Moving clockwise the Lord/Lady salute each direction. If there are four novices present each will stand to the directions as the Lord/Lady passes.

Lord/Lady: Let all those that wish to partake enter ye now ! (the bell is rung)

Everyone enters by stepping forward (no actual circle has been cast yet)

Wait: My Lord/Lady all those that wish to partake in this Magickal Rite are now present. I pray you, cast the Sacred Circle.

Lord/Lady: What thou doth sees makes here this night, shall be forever within this circle. So Mote It Be!

(When anyone speaks the So Mote It Be or Blessed Be, all shall repeat it)

Again at the East, the Lord/Lady takes the sword and draws within the ground or upon the floor the circle saying as the pass...

"I draw this magick circle let no evil or ill will cross its mark."

Once the Lord/Lady has reached the East again, They take the sword and place it upon the shoulders of the novice, and says..."be thou the guardian of this gate... I call I summon I stir oh ye spirits of Air, come forth now I pray thee and witness our Rite. So Mote It Be !"
The Guardian answers: I am he/she the guardian, no evil or ill will shall pass by me, My Lord/Lady.

The Wait rings the bell

The Lord/Lady goes to each quarter and perform the same, on each guardian. The Wait will ring the bell as each guardian answers. Once the quarters are called the Lord/Lady goes to the center of the circle as the Wait performs the cleansing of the circle with salt and water.

Incense can be used instead of salt and water mixture. The Lord/Lady summons the spirit of the Great Lady and the Great Lord by saying...

Great Lady witness now your children who stand before you in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.

Standing East, with the censer the Lord/Lady says... Great Maiden Come To Us...
All repeat...
Standing South, with the torch or candle the Lord/Lady says...Great Mother Come To Us...

All repeat...

Standing West, with chalice of wine or water, the Lord/Lady says...Ancient Queen of Wisdom Come To Us...

All repeat...

Standing North, with the salt, the Lord/Lady says...Brother Come To Us...

All Repeat...

Drumming, rattles, any form of music making can be added to this. As you can take note there really isn't any particular God or Goddess called, this is the Avaloian Tradition. All Gods are one God, all Goddesses are one Goddess.

So there is the very basic beginnings of Magical Workings... you can take it from here... Do What Thou Wilt, Save Harm None, Shall Be the Whole.

Bright Blessing...
Lord OberRon
Knight of the Sacred Light

Venerable Paul The Simple And Disciple

Venerable Paul The Simple And Disciple Of The Venerable Anthony The Great

COMMEMORATED ON MARCH 7

Saint Paul the Simple of Egypt also lived in the fourth century and was called the Simple for his simplicity of heart and gentleness. He had been married, but when he discovered his wife's infidelity, he left her and went into the desert to St Anthony the Great (January 17). Paul was already 60 years old, and at first St Anthony would not accept Paul, saying that he was unfit for the harshness of the hermit's life. Paul stood outside the cell of the ascetic for three days, saying that he would sooner die than go from there. Then St Anthony took Paul into his cell, and tested his endurance and humility by hard work, severe fasting, with nightly vigils, constant singing of Psalms and prostrations. Finally, St Anthony decided to settle Paul into a separate cell.

During the many years of ascetic exploits the Lord granted St Paul both discernment, and the power to cast out demons. When they brought a possessed youth to St Anthony, he guided the afflicted one to St Paul saying, "I cannot help the boy, for I have not received power over the Prince of the demons. Paul the Simple, however, does have this gift." St Paul expelled the demon by his simplicity and humility.

After living for many years, performing numerous miracles, he departed to the Lord. He is mentioned by St John, the Abbot of Sinai (Ladder 24:30): "The thrice-blessed Paul the Simple was a clear example for us, for he was the rule and type of blessed simplicity..."

St Paul is also commemorated on October 4.

Apologies And Clarification On Interview Regarding

Apologies And Clarification On Interview Regarding Neo Paganism And National Socialism
Jason Pitzl-Watters of the Wildhunt Blog recently shared his concerns with me about my recent interview with Karla Poewe on National Socialism via his comments connected with that post. He has also written up a post on his blog that discusses this in more depth which can be found here.

First, I offer my apologies to Jason and others in the Neo-Pagan community for the perceptions that I or Dr. Poewe were saying that Neo-Paganism is to blame for the rise of National Socialism. From my perspective this is not the case, and I repudiate any attempts at historical revisionism, whether from Christians or other religious or spiritual communities. The situation surrounding this tragic period of history is the result of a large number of forces at work in a complex cultural, social, and political matrix. And I do not wish to be construed as saying that Christianity did not have some part to play in all of this, including any contributions to anti-Semitism and the relative silence as this evil grew and exerted its destructive power.

Second, I have worked hard to do credible research and develop sound understandings of Neo-Pagans, and have also tried to develop relationships with those in the Neo-Pagan community. I will continue to strive for these high standards and I ask my Neo-Pagan contacts to be patient and forgiving as a result of this affair. If nothing else, blame it on the poor questioning skills of the interviewer in this case.

Third, I have contacted Dr. Poewe and sent her a copy of Jason's blog post and asked for her to provide me with her thoughts in response that I will post here.

I hope we can move forward positively as we work through this matter together.

Snippet Saturday The Moment

Snippet Saturday The Moment
Snippet Saturday is the brainchild of author Lauren Dane, wherein a group of authors selects thematic excerpts from their work and shares them on Saturday mornings. Today's Saturday Snippet is about "the moment" - the moment of the author's choice. I have chosen the moment in One Thousand Kisses when we first meet the main character of the book who is the cat, of course.

The cry roused Ani from hot, restive slumber.

She nipped up like a jack in the box. Heart racing, she stared into the darkness. Earth magic sharpened her hearing, her vision. Yet no matter how far she extended, the only sounds were the ordinary noises of the night.

She'd been dreaming. Good or bad? Fairies only had bad dreams if their psyche was imbalanced. The type of imbalance that could cause a woman to experience graphic, sexual dreams about the Primary of the Elder Court. That could cause panic attacks and instinctive agony spells.

What a mess. Ani collapsed onto the pillows and scrubbed her face. She had to regain control. Erotic nighttime fantasies like the one she'd been enjoying weren't bad exactly. What made hers bad was that she'd been interrupted before the grand conclusion.

It had been so close to grand. His skin. His hands. His tongue. Whether or not it was a nightmare, it felt bad now. Her puss ached with frustration, but she had no urge to rub it. All the lust had been shocked out of her by the sudden fright.

Imbalanced indeed. Without Talista by her side, she'd grown too feeble to handle Court. She'd limped along for five years, but evidently she'd reached her limit.

She suspected her limit had something to do with Warran Torval. Or was it her mortifying desire to offer Elder Embor a proposition card-or proposition him outright?

While cowardice explained the first issue, lack of balance was the only explanation for the second. She'd lost her center and her sense. While Embor's threat to report her had likely been a bluff, it didn't erase the fact she'd throttled him-and soon thereafter tried to kiss him.

No, she'd not be offering Embor a proposition card.

Ani rolled in the tangled sheets until her cheek hit a cool spot on the opposite pillow. There was no place at Court for a half-twin with violent panic attacks and a yen for the Primary. What was she going to do? Ani pondered her options until a bar of orange sunrise splashed her face, waking her from the sleep she thought she'd never find.

The light was so concentrated it pierced her eyelids. She flopped away from it, or tried to. Something large weighed down the coverlet, pinning her to the bed.

Ani yanked at the covers. Her sister hadn't sheet-wedged her in decades, but the sensation of being stuck by tightly wrapped blankets was a familiar one.

"Talista, not funny."

A hoarse rumble answered her right before a multitude of needles pierced her thigh.

Ani screeched and kicked. The weight disappeared. A distinct thump sounded on the floor to her right.

Adrenaline blasted her system as her eyesight adjusted to the half-dark. She scrambled off the bed, groping for the alarm globe on the side table.

"Who's there?"

She could see no one in her bedchamber, and she didn't sense Tali through their sibling bond.

Cautiously she crept around the footboard, gripping her alarm globe. The fist-sized charms could wake one person or a castle depending on how one used them.

When she reached the corner, a black cat waited in the center of her damp rug with its tail tucked over its paws.

She looked at the cat. The cat looked at her. Its yellow eyes gleamed. Then it hiked its back leg into the air and began to wash itself.

Oh. Well. Himself.

"Hello, Fey." Anisette glanced at her door and windows. Undisturbed, keyed to locks she controlled. She chose who could enter. The only other way in was via transportation.

"What are you doing here, Master Fey?"

The cat, in the way of cats, didn't acknowledge her. He started on his tail.

Some Fey cats communicated with fairies. Some didn't. They appeared and disappeared all over the Realm, cities to deserts. They also traveled to humanspace, possibly through things Tali called gnome holes and possibly by means of their own devising.

Fairies were the dominant primates on the Realm continent, the only civilized land in their world. Fairies outnumbered leprechauns, annishags, yeti, medusas and other sentient species, with the sentience of gnomes an item of some debate.

Cats were not primates.
