This is a little protection charm bag you can use to keep your home safe from negative or evil influences.
* Small black bag
* A black feather
* A small stone
* A hammer
* A torn strip of black paper
You'll need a natural stone, around the size of a quarter. Use the hammer to break the stone into at least 2 pieces. Gather up all the bits and put them in the bag, along with the feather. If the feather is too long, use scissors to cut it. Just make sure you use all the pieces. Roll up the strip of torn paper, and stick that in the bag as well.
Tie the bag closed, and bury it out by the back door of your home. If you live in an apartment, stash is someplace hidden near your balcony door or anywhere opposite from your main entrance. This little Pagan spell can keep your home safe as long as its in place.

The word Decapitation is derived from the Latin root de meaning "less" and Capitis meaning "head". Decapitation therefore is described as rendering a body headless. Decapitation has been used as capital punishment for over 1,000 years, and in almost all cultures. Various weapons, including the axe, sword and guillotines have been used for this purpose. Compared with other methods like hanging, decapitation is considered the most effective mode of killing someone, with the least pain for the shortest amount of time. It is however considered the most painful method in Chinese culture, as the Chinese consider that nothing is more painful than sending a headless body to the spirits of the ancestors. The executioner in case of decapitation is known as a headsman, and his skill counts in inflicting the least possible pain with one strike.
1. MARCUS TULLIUS CICERO
Marcus Tullius Cicero
Marcus Tullius Cicero, better known in history as "Cicero", was born on January 3,106 BC in Arpinum, Roman Republic and died on December 7, 43 BC at the age of 63 years in Formia, Roman Republic. He wrote many philippics against Antony. A philippic is an extremely bitter and hot speech delivered to condemn a political opponent. The term was derived from such speeches written against Phillip II of Macedon in the fourth century BC. Highly annoyed, Antony ordered his decapitation for this act. Cicero was arrested when trying to flee, and was beheaded on the spot. His hands were also cut in retaliation for writing the philippics. Just before execution, Cicero exposing his neck and throat to his killers, said "There is nothing proper about what you are doing, soldier, but do try to kill me properly". Following the tradition of Marius and Sula, who used to display the enemy heads, Antony too ordered the display of Cicero's head and hands on the rostrum of Forum Romanum.
2. ANNE BOLEYN
Anne Boleyn
Anne Boleyn was born to Thomas Boley, the Earl of Witershire and Lady Elizabeth Howard, in 1501, at Blickling Hall, Norfolk or Hever Castle, Kent and died on May 19, 1536 at the age of 35 years in Tower of London. From 1533 to 1536, she was the Queen of England as the second wife of King Henry VIII. The King accused her of high treason, adultery, incest, and witchcraft. She was arrested and sent to the Tower of London. On May 6, 1536 she wrote a letter to the king which contained "Try me, good king, but let me have a lawful trial, and let not my sworn enemies sit as my accusers and judges; yea let me receive an open trial, for my truth shall fear no open flame; then shall you see either my innocence cleared, your suspicion and conscience satisfied, the ignominy and slander of the world stopped, or my guilt openly declared." The biased jury however gave the verdict against her to please the King and she was ultimately decapitated becoming perhaps, one of the most famous decapitations in history.
3. FRIEDRICH HEINRICH KARL HAARMANN
Friedrich Heinrich Karl Haarmann
Friedrich Heinrich Karl Haarmann, also known as the Butcher of Hanover, was born to poor parents on October 25, 1879 in Hanover, German Empire and died on April 15, 1925 at the age of 45 years. He entered a Military Academy at the age of 16and did quite satisfactorily for two years, but started suffering from fits, after which he was discharged. He was accused of killing 27 boys during 1918 and 1924. His trial attracted nationwide attention and as the term Serial Killer did not exist in that time, he was named as "werewolf". After a two week trial he was found guilty and convicted of murdering 24 boys. He was sentenced to death and was decapitated by guillotine on April 15, 1925. He did not appeal against the verdict. Before decapitation he uttered his last words "I repent, but I do not fear death".
4. LEONARD GEORGE SIFFLEET
Leonard George Siffleet
Leonard George Siffleet was born on January 14, 1916 in Gunnedah, New South Wales and died on October 24, 1943 in Aitape, Papua New Guinea. In 1930 he moved to Sydney seeking a police job, but he could not get it on account of his weak eyesight. However, he succeeded in joining the Services Reconnaissance Department and was sent on a mission to Papua New Guinea, along with two other colleagues. Tribesmen captured all of them and handed over them to the Japanese. All of them were interrogated and tortured. Finally they were each decapitated. Stifflees photograph of decapitation is preserved and speaks about the reality of the war.
5. DANIEL PEARL
Daniel Pearl
Daniel Pearl was born to Ruth and Judea Pearl, on October 10, 1963 in Princeton, New Jersey, U.S. and died on February 1, 2002 at the age of 38 years in Karachi, Pakistan. He was raised in Los Angeles, California and was educated at Portola Middle School and Birmingham High School. Judea Pearl had narrated his Jewish family background in his LA Times article Roots in the Holy Land. While working as a bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal, based in Bombay India, he was kidnapped. He was on a mission to investigate links between Richard Reid and Al Qaeda. His captors decapitated him and a British National Ahmed Omar Sheikh was in turn sentenced to death in July 2002.
6. AUGUSTE VAILLANT
Auguste Vaillant
Auguste Vaillant was born on December 27, 1861 in Mezieres, Ardennes, France and died on February3, 1894 at the age of 32 years in Paris, France. He is known for his bomb attack on the French Chamber of Deputies. He was captured soon after throwing the homemade bomb from the public Gallery. He was an anarchist and as such did not like the state. The device was too weak to cause fatalities, it did however cause many injuries. Valliant confessed that his aim was not to kill but to injure as many deputies as he could in retaliation to the execution of Ravachol. He was sentenced to death and decapitated on December 9, 1893.
7. TAHVO PUTKONEN
Decapitation
Tahvo Putkonen was born on October 30, 1795 in Suonenjoki, Finland and died in Pieksamak. He was a Finnish farmer who killed another farmer, Lesse Hirvonen. In 1822, he had invited many guests during a celebration. While heavily drunk, Putkonen attacked Hirvonen and struck him on his head. Hirvonen did not survive the head injury and died after two days. He was arrested and sentenced to death after a long trial. He appealed many times, but all of his appeals were rejected, and he was ultimately decapitated with an axe on July 30, 1823. The axe used in decapitation has been preserved at the Museum of Crime in Vantaa.
8. MARGARET POLE THE BLESSED
Margaret Pole the Blessed
Margaret Pole the Blessed, Countess of Salisbury was born on August 14, 1473 in Farleigh Hungerford Castle, Somerset, England and died on May 27, 1541 in the Tower of London at the age of 67 years. She was charged of high treason, which she denied. She was decapitated at the orders of King Henry VIII, on May 27, 1541 and beatified by Pope Leo XIII on December 29, 1886.
9. MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS
Mary, Queen of Scots
Mary, Queen of Scots was born to James V, King of Scots and Mary of Guise at Linlithgow Palace, Linlithgow, Scotland on December 8, 1542 and died on February 8, 1587. Mary was made to abdicate in favor of her one year old son. She sought refuge from Queen Elizabeth Queen, whose throne Mary had once claimed as of her. Mary was tried for treason and having been imprisoned for eighteen and a half years was sentenced to death by decapitation. The headsman had to strike twice for the purpose. Her last words were "In manus tuas, Domine, commendo spiritum meum" meaning "Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit."
10. ROBERT DEVEREUX, 2ND EARL OF ESSEX
Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex
Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex was born to Walter Devereux and Lettice Knollys on November 10, 1565 at Netherwood, Herefordshire. He was an overambitious general and was arrested after an unsuccessful coup de tat attempt. He was tried on charges of treason on February 19, 1601. He was found guilty and decapitated on Tower Green on February 1601. He was the last person who was decapitated in the Tower of London. His headsman Thomas Derrick struck him thrice to complete decapitation.
CONCLUSION
Not only the criminals but also great men like St. Paul, Mansur Al-Hallaj and Sarmad Shaheed too had been decapitated for their firm belief in truth. Sarmad Shaheed, the renowned Muslim mystic poet was decapitated under the orders of the Mogul Emperor Aurengzeb. Mansoor Al-Hallah was also a great Muslim mystic who was decapitated on March 26,922 at the orders of Abbasid Caliph Al-Muqtadir. French Scholar, Massignon has described the decapitation of Mansur Al-Hallaj in detail.

Have you ever asked this question? Sure you have those casseroles or soups that taste better the second day but for the most part I bet you would prefer a freshly cooked meal over one that you have to warm up in the microwave.
I know plenty of people who will flat out not eat leftovers simply because that food is not the full meal deal they've already had. For them leftovers are considered second-rate food and could never be as satisfying as the first course.
If no one really loves leftovers then...WHY DO WE SO OFTEN GIVE OUR GOD, OUR SPOUSES AND OUR KIDS WHAT IS LEFT OVER OF US? Don't they deserve the full meal deal from us? I'm quite certain they do.

In order to give my God, my wife and my kids my best and not my leftovers, I have to prioritize.
MY GOD IS FIRST and I should devote time each day in Prayer and reading scripture. I should also be serving others both in the church and where there is need.
MY WIFE IS SECOND and I should focus on the needs of my wife and make sure to always pursue her.
"BY THE WAY - THE DAY WE QUIT PURSING OUR SPOUSES IS THE DAY THAT SATAN WILL AND HE WILL DO EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER TO WIDEN THE GAP BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE. "
MY KIDS ARE THIRD but they are not any less important. They need me more than they need "stuff" and they need me to be their primary disciple teacher...not the church. They need me to teach them how to Go into this world and live life with Christ in the center of their lives.
BOTTOM LINE - None of them deserve my leftovers!
This might mean that in the big picture, I have to:

Leave work at work and don't bring it home.

Remember that my family is my legacy and my life with God is now and forever.

I started a conversation with the question: Does God care about Justice? There are a number of reaons why I'm doing this, but perhaps most importantly this conversation raises the question as to what our calling is as God's people in the world. Am I called to acts of compassion only, or am I called to seek to change the social realities that marginalize people and work to destroy the world in which we live? To me, justice has to do with (to quote the Disciples mission statement) seeking to bring wholeness to a fragmented world. Regarding the first - I see the kinds of responses that church folk offer to the people of Joplin or Japan. Regarding the latter (justice) I see working to change systems that dehumanize folks. Both are important and even essential, and belong together. In that regard, Bruce Epperly offers some thoughts about justice from the perspective of Process Theology as part of his series on that topic. I invite you to read and respond.

Alfred North Whitehead once stated that the aim of the universe is toward the production of beauty. For process theologians, beauty of experience is an ethical as well as aesthetic value. Beauty implies a dynamic relationship of diversity and unity, novelty and order, and contrast and intensity. While these terms seem abstract, they imply an ethical vision appropriate to individual and corporate behavior, grounded in relational and social justice. Just actions and social structures enhance beauty of experience, while unjust actions and social structures deface beauty of experience and limit personal possibilities. Accordingly, we can assert that God is on the side of beauty and justice and seeks relationships and institutions that promote creative, intense, meaningful, and beautiful experiences. A society is judged by its ability to support positive and healthy experiences among its most vulnerable as well as its most elite members.
In the spirit of the prophets and Jesus, process theology recognizes that social institutions - governments, corporations, businesses, educational institutions, are ultimately moral entities. If houses are indiscriminately foreclosed, profits prized over personal and communal well being, children educated in substandard schools, and persons ostracized because of their gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and age, then governments are failing in the quest for beauty of experience. Process theologians affirm the quest for "life, liberty, and the quest for happiness," provided that happiness is seen as communal as well as individual. Individual creativity and success - and the ideal of rugged individualism - at the expense of the social order and the well being of persons is inherently unjust.
Process theology recognizes that all achievement involves the interplay of the environment, family of origin, and personal decision-making. Even in the most difficult situations, for example, poverty, abusive family relationships, and racism, we have the freedom to choose our attitude and take our first steps toward freedom. Even in positive social settings, people may still make harmful decisions. Nevertheless, unhealthy environments place serious limits on our ability to make healthy and responsible decisions. Accordingly, we have a responsibility to foster healthy environments as well as value-based education that enables people to make life-supporting decisions. Healthy and caring environments provide a tipping point toward personal achievement and well being. Here, I define achievement in terms of fulfilling one's particular vocation.
Process theology's quest for health and beauty-supporting environments requires equality of opportunity and sufficient social resources for all people. For example, process theology's concept of justice implies that all persons should have accessible health care, both in terms of prevention and response to illness. Further, while school districts may differ in terms of resources, these differences should be as minimal as possible. Schools in poor counties should be given resources approximate to affluent municipalities. While some will sacrifice as a result of beauty-producing social policy, affirmative action based on a combination of economics and ethnicity is essential in the quest for justice and beauty. But, opportunity and economic background as well as race must be a criterion for advancement in education and the work place.
A healthy society supports peoples' ability to experience more than mere survival. It must encourage creativity, artistic expression, philosophical adventure, scientific exploration, spiritual discovery, and intellectual curiosity. These are values that contribute to breadth of experience and the ability to transcend one's own experience in a world of many peoples and nations. When difficult decisions must be made, such as those involving the arts, health care, education, those with the fewest resources should make the fewest sacrifices. A good society helps its members, in the words of Whitehead, not only "to live, but to live well, and live better." Justice in personal and corporate relationships supports peoples' quests for abundant life, involving creativity and beauty of experience, rather than consumerism and hedonism. According, just structures must take into consideration beauty and abundance for non-humans as well as future generations on this good earth.

A long time ago (i.e. the mid-90's), I had a green iguana named Merlin. After spending 450 to get a bladder stone removed (only a few months after I got him), he mysteriously died about two years later. I was heart broken. I always thought of getting another iguana, but I didn't want it to die as well.
Fast forward to today. My sweetie bought me a new one! In keeping with tradition, I named him after a wizard as well. Fizban is a character from the Dragonlance series of When doing some research, I found out quite a few new things compared to what I had known in the mid-90's. I also found out why Merlin died. In addition to a basking lamp (which provides standard UVA rays like any common light bulb), iguanas need a bulb that emits UVB rays. These are both produced by the sun, and iguanas need both. UVB allows them to utilize the calcium in their diet. Without these rays, the calcium can build up into... drumroll now... calcium deposits within the body, such as bladder stones. When an iguana doesn't get enough calcium (or be able to use it), it gets... metabolic bone disease (MBD for short). I always noticed that Merlin's legs were held at an odd angle, and it had some toes that were just bent around the wrong way. Also, he didn't grow. After two years, I should've needed two hands to hold him, but he was barely bigger than Fizban is now in these pictures. Unfortunately, they didn't know that much about UVB at the time. I had a couple I have him in a little tank right now (29 gallon) until the 55 gallon ones go on sale at Petco (for a dollar a gallon!). In no time at all, though, no conventional tank will be big enough for Fizban. See what he'll look like in three to five years:
Yes, they can grow from five to six feet long! Where to keep such a beast? Why, right here, in our mini-backyard of sorts:
Without the bike, of course! With the exception of the low fence dead ahead, it's pretty well enclosed. Fizban can roam loose in this area, but we need to make sure he stays in, and something like a bobcat stays out! We're going to buy some coated chain link fencing to go over those areas (hope the neighbors don't complain!). Fence or mesh is good, to let in some natural sunlight (though that only happens in the morning), and it should be coated so he can't scratch himself on the fence if climbing or rubbing his nose on it. We'd remove the rocks, as he can scrape his belly on those sharp things. I want to borrow some large rocks and branches from Mother Nature for him to climb on. We'll still need a basking light and a UVB lamp out there, since the sun won't shine into the yard nearly enough for him.
The only thing is, once it starts getting under seventy degrees at night, we'll have to find alternate accommodations for him - probably in our room. This awesome iguana owner (female, natch) has a series of racks nailed into the wall at high levels. She has the lights hanging up there, and it's food bowls and such on the racks. The racks went all around the room, in a spiral fashion. Pretty cool idea!
Oh, one last thing: I know I've been calling Fizban a 'he,' and he's (did it again!) named after a male wizard. Well, it's impossible to tell what sex they are until they reach sexual maturity - about one a half years old. I call him... well, him, both because I don't want to be calling my adorable little lizard an 'it,' and because I thought Merlin was male. The man at the pet store told me he was a boy when I bought him - at 2 or 3 months old. Amateur. So I was used to calling him 'Merlin Boy, Green Boy,' and such. It just comes natural now. Female iguanas are usually blessed with a calmer temperament (though both are easy-going if you train them right), but they tend to have health issues due to their egg-laying. Constipation, loss of protein, and other problems may occur. One can get them spayed at a veterinarian that knows what they're doing with reptiles.

The neopagan phenomenon is a loose collection of religious movements, experiments and jokes that offers a healthy alternative to the dogmatism of the Judeo/Christian/Islamic mainstream (on the one hand) and the mushy- mindedness of most 'New Age' groups (on the other).
This article, prepared at the request of a number of curious net.posters, offers a brief description of neopagan thought and practice. A list of good sources for further study are listed at the end.
II. What is a neopagan?
I used the term 'religious' above, but as you'll see it's actually more than somewhat misleading, and I (like many other neopagans) use it only because no other word is available for the more general kind of thing of which the neopagan movement and what we generally think of as 'religion' are special cases.
Neopaganism is 'religious' in the etymological sense of 're ligare', to rebind (to roots, to strengths, to the basics of things), and it deals with mythology and the realm of the 'spiritual'. But, as we in the Judeo/Christian West have come to understand 'religion' (an
organized body of belief that connects the 'supernatural' with an authoritarian moral code via 'faith') neopaganism is effectively and radically anti-religious. I emphasize this because it is important in understanding what follows.
Common characteristics of almost all the groups that describe themselves as 'neopagan' (the term is often capitalized) include:
1. Anti-dogmatism
Neopagan religions are religions of practice, pragmatism and immediate experience. The emphasis is always on what they can help the individuals in them to *do* and *experience*; theology and metaphysics take a back seat, and very little 'faith' or 'belief' is
required or expected. In fact many neopagans (including yours truly) are actively hostile to 'faith' and all the other and the world as we experience it is quite enough for us. Thus, we are generally friendly to science and the scientific world-view. Many of us are scientists and technologists ourselve (in fact, by some counts, a plurality of us are computer programmers!).
3. Reverence for nature, sensuality, and pleasure
Most neopaganisms make heavy use of nature symbolism and encourage people to be more aware of their ties to all the non-human life on this planet. Explicit worship of 'Gaia', the earth ecosphere considered as a single interdependent unit, is common. Veneration of
nature dieties is central to many traditions. Ecological activism is often considered a religious duty, though there is much controversy over what form it should take.
By preference, most neopagans hold their ceremonies outdoors under sun or moon. Seasonal changes and astronomical rhythms (especially the solstices, equinoxes and full and new moons) define the ritual calendar.
Ritual and festive nudity are common; to be naked before nature is often considered a holy and integrating act in itself. Sex is considered sacramental and sexual energy and symbolisms permeate neopagan practice (we like to contrast this with Christianity, in which the central sacrament commemorates a murder and climaxes in ritual cannibalism).
4. Polytheism, pantheism, agnosticism
Most neopaganisms are explicitly polytheistic - that is, they recognize pantheons of multiple dieties. But the reality behind this is more complex than it might appear.
First, many neopagans are philosophical agnostics or even atheists; there is a tendency to regard 'the gods' as Jungian archetypes or otherwise in some sense created by and dependent on human belief, and thus naturally plural and observer-dependent.

In my thirties the Goddess and a good friend of mine tried desperately to get my attention and show me what I really wanted, but I was deaf and blind.
This was in the 80s and most people living any sort of alternative lifestyle did not go around waving a flag about it. I had a friend who was in her fifties and got divorced. She told me that now she was free to be a pagan. A few months later I asked her about a group that she met with every few weeks (or was it once a month!?!). I was a little hurt that I was never invited. She told me it was a pagan group.
Here is how dense I was. I thought she was just saying that she liked to party (pagan=party), and she liked to party with women her own age. I was really shut down to hearing anything that might open up a need to explore a spiritual life.
She never mentioned it again and it never occurred to me to question it.
A few years later I was visiting the town where she lived and my most beloved dog got out of my car and got lost. I was distraught. Many, many people tried to help me find the dog, including my friend. After a few days of hysteria on my part she told me to come to her house. She did what she called a ritual and had me just visualize the dog while she played with some candles and the dog's leash. I was very upset and I think that because I thought she was praying, I just played along trying to humor her and waiting for her to get done so we could go back out and keep looking for the dog.
I was oblivious, but I know now that she was casting a spell. The next day someone called and said he had found the dog. In fact he had her all along and had been planning to keep her because he thought it was a shame that she was running loose, but changed his mind.
It was a really really good spell.

I was driving home one day after a BBQ at a friend's house and saw this hanging over the driveway. It gave me a funny feeling, it seemed ominous somehow. I stopped the car and took a photo of it. Today, The Parable of the Mustard Seed comes to mind:
"Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches ther." Mt 13:31-32
Often, people take the mustard seed to represent faith which starts small and grows to a mighty tree. Yet the mustard seed never grows to a tree, it is a weed and grows to a bush no higher than 3-4 feet tall. What do the birds of the air represent? They were described earlier in Jesus' conversation, in verse 19 as The Wicked One.
In the mustard seed parable, Jesus tells us that the birds of the air will lodge in the branches. These "birds" as we see in the verses are actually demons led by "the prince of the power of the air" (Ephesians 2:2), who have continually tried to infiltrate the church. Satan thinks, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!' Satan efficiently implants his agents in Jesus' church to teach false doctrine while appearing to be true Christians. Sound like some of today's churches? We know from 1 Corinthians 18-19 that God has allowed antichrists to lodge within His church. They nest, they lodge, they infiltrate. Believe it. Since satan is a counterfeiter and a copycat, and Jesus said when two or more are gathered so He will be among them also (Mt 18:20) then satan will also send his demons to nest in the mustard branches. Where you see two fowl, you will see more. The problem is, Jesus also said that in the time of the end, many will not be able to discern the false from the good: "And many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many." Matthew 24:11 Is a fowl of the air nesting in your branch? Is he calling to fowl brothers to come on in? Pray daily. Study the bible daily. Walk with Jesus daily. Pick up your cross and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Why? Nesting birds in your branches are not always good things.

Recently I have been doing quite a bit of counseling, helping very godly women with various circumstances in life and decisions that must be made. I am a firm believer in the sovereignty of God (that should come as no surprise to you who read this blog every day) and firmly believe that He is in charge of all the events of our lives.
When a counselee begins to see changes take place in their lives, they can sometimes begin to see the counselor as more than they really are. There is a great temptation for them to make the opinions of man more important that the Word of God. Of course, it is not intentional but nevertheless they sometimes tend to neglect seeking the wisdom, direction, and comfort of the Lord in these trying times as much as they seek my opinion.
As I sat down with my Bible I was reminded of the verses in Jeremiah 17:5-8 which begins in this way, "Cursed is the man who puts his trust in man, and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord..."
Why do we start strong with the Lord and fade out in the long stretches? We begin praying and seeking and wanting what God wants for us and over time we become wrapped up in the details of the occasion and we turn away in our heart from focusing on Him. Remembering that all that is of this world is temporary is an important piece of making it through this life.
"For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. 2 Corinthians 4:17
While Paul describes the afflictions of this life as "light" and "momentary" and our sufferings as temporary and designed only for this lifetime there are times I certainly struggle focusing on the eternal weight of glory they are producing (Romans 8:18)
Have you ever thought that present suffering will cause future glory? This is a tremendous promise! All of the difficulties, and trials, and sorrow and suffering that you and I endure in this life is affecting a change in the image of who we will become in eternity! This makes every single moment of our suffering very significant.
Even the worst of our sufferings are light compared with that "eternal weight of glory" which they are producing (1 Peter 5:10; 1 Peter 1:6; 2 Cor. 4:17.) They are nothing in duration. For these sufferings are but for a moment; but the glory we will share will be eternal. Sufferings will soon pass away; but the glory we will one day experience is never going to end. Do you have any concept of how long eternity is? I doubt it; I know I don't really understand the idea of eternal or never ending.
Paul understood this; he learned it through his trials. His trials began the moment he began to preach Christ. He wanted us to get two ideas in as emphatic a manner as possible; first, that his afflictions were light, and, secondly, that they were momentary, and soon passing away. His object was to contrast trials with the glory that awaited him, as being heavy, and as being also eternal.
Our afflictions are working, producing, and affecting future glory.
This is why we are to set our minds on what is to come. Not on the problems, the suffering, the afflictions and begin to look at the glory that is to come! If we really take these verses to heart and begin to understand in more than a superficial way that in comparison to what is ahead off us- the joy, the wonder, the splendor, the glory- this stuff is nothing.
As you pray about the burdens you bear, where is your focus? Is your focus in prayer, "God please end this" or is it "God be glorified?" Paul never would have made it if he lived focusing on the suffering, he understood that when it comes to suffering, our minds must be renewed and we must learn to focus on the glory to come.
Today, think of what God is accomplishing in your season of suffering. This time, think of the changes that have been made in your heart and life. Think of how your perspective has changed on things as a result of your trial.

Wow, what a busy end of summer/fall it's been! As is typical for me, the autumn winds have brought an extreme abundance of change. October in particular is always the month where everything in my life flips itself up-side-down and forces me to look at myself and my work with new eyes. And how fitting that I hop back on the horse of my personal blog on this enchanting October new moon.
"It's been a time of unimaginable opportunity for me. Over the summer I noticed that MOON BOOKS was having a contest with Pagan Writers Community to find the "next generation of Pagan writers." On a "meh, why not" whim, I sent in the first half of the manuscript I've been working on for over a year. To my absolute shock, it won! The prize was a higher level contract to publish with the company. So for the past six weeks I busily prepared to finish the manuscript, collected feedback, made changes, sent it around for endorsements, and sent it in for editing. As of today its just gone to copyediting which means its in its in full-on production process. So, The Deep Heart of Witchcraft "will be out in time for a January release. I'm so excited. I have multiple friend who are coming in from out of state in January so we can party it up at Sacred Circle Craft work has been kind to me. I'm in my 4th month of training in the Anderson Feri tradition and I'm absolutely loving it. Its everything I was hoping it would be and more. My teacher STORM FAERYWOLF has been an unimaginably effective mentor for me in this work. Towards the end of the summer I got to teach an introductory runes course at the shop, which was so fun. Next time I'll make that one 3 hours instead of 2 though! After that I did a 3 hour Wicca 1 course for Firelfy, then did a private Wicca 2 class in the home of one of my good friends for his family. And it doesn't stop there. Firefly has so many classes, rituals, and activities lined up even further on down the road, its incredible. So although folks have been worried about us being disadvantaged by choosing to not return to the Pagan center for the time-being, don't be. We're trucking right along and loving every moment that this wonderful world brings us.
"In other writing news besides the book, my little fingers have just been typing away writing for some pretty fun projects. Issue #3 of MODERN WITCH MAGAZINE" will be out in a matter of days just in time for Samhain. In there you'll find a piece I did focused on what I believe to be the top 10 most powerful herbs for a magickal boost of energy. And as of a couple days ago, I've been offered my own column over at PAGANSQUARE, the online blogging platform for "Witches and Pagans" magazine. The column is called "NextGen Pagan" and will focus on exactly what it sounds like, Paganism for the next generation.
So although things are writing heavy and day job heavy (election season in DC is nuts), the typical event-heavy schedule of October is a little lighter this year. I am doing two things for sure though. On October 26, Firefly is hosting T. Thorn Coyle for a SKYPE QANDA, since we've been working through her book Kissing the Limitless for the past 4 months. After that on Samhain night itself, Firelfy's annual Dumb Supper will be held at my house. The Dumb Supper is something we do every year in combination with Soul Interaction, my partner Mike's psychic development group. I can't wait!
And finally, I just LAUNCHED MY NEW WEBSITE. As you may have noticed, I took all the other links off this blog expect the one that says "website." So I'll still be blogging here, but you can also see this feed on the blog section on the new site, davidDsalisbury.com.

Reporting from Colorado Springs, Colo. - In the still of a cold November evening, a small gathering of pagans, led by two witches, begins preparations for the coming winter solstice. But these are not just any pagans, and this is not just any setting. They are future officers of the United States Air Force practicing their faith in the basement of the Air Force Academy's cadet chapel.
Their ranks are slim. According to the academy's enrollment records, only three of 4,300 cadets identified themselves as pagans, followers of an ancient religion that generally does not worship a single god and considers all things in nature interconnected.
Still, the academy this year dedicated an 80,000 outdoor worship center - a small Stonehenge-like circle of boulders with propane fire pit - high on a hill for the handful of current or future cadets whose religions fall under the broad category of "Earth-based." Those include pagans, Wiccans, druids, witches and followers of Native American faiths.
Witches in the Air Force? Chaplain Maj. Darren Duncan, branch chief of cadet faith communities at the academy, sighs. A punch line waiting to happen, and he's heard all the broom jokes.
For the record, there are no witches among the cadets this year. But the two spiritual leaders for all Earth-based religions - one a civilian, one an Air Force reservist - are witches and regularly cast spells, which they say is not so different from offering prayer. There also are no druids this year. But there could be next year.
"We're here to accommodate all religions, period," Duncan says. The building of the Cadet Chapel Falcon Circle on the hilltop, he says, is no different from the past conversion of chapel rooms into worship spaces that serve this year's 11 Muslim, 16 Buddhist and 10 Hindu cadets. There are also 43 self-identified atheist cadets whose beliefs, or lack of them, Duncan says are also to be respected.
"It is very nice to have our own space," says Cadet 1st Class Nicole Johnson, a 21-year-old senior from Florida who became a pagan after entering the academy.
This is not about religious tolerance - a phrase Duncan, a Christian, rejects as implying that the majority religion is simply putting up with the minority. He calls it a 1st Amendment issue. If the military is to defend the Constitution, it should also be upholding its guarantee of religious freedom. "We think we are setting the standard," Duncan says.
In addition to providing worship space, new policy dictates that all cadets take courses in understanding the religions of those who may someday fall under their command. Recently he's fielded calls from West Point and Annapolis about replicating the Air Force's efforts.
In 2005, the Air Force - still reeling from accusations of sexual assaults against female cadets at the academy - was accused in a lawsuit of allowing aggressive proselytizing toward non-Christians. The suit, ultimately dismissed, was brought by an attorney and academy graduate, Michael Weinstein, who founded the Military Religious Freedom Foundation and has continued to fight what he calls aclimate of religious oppression at the academy.
Weinstein isn't buying this new spirit of "Kumbaya." He says he has received hundreds of complaints from cadets who allege pressure by other cadets or superiors to profess faith in Christ and cites a desecration incident in 2010 when a cross was left at a previous Earth-based worship site. The Air Force condemned that incident, and it was never discovered who was responsible.
Weinstein says the presence of the powerful fundamental Christian organization, Focus on the Family, just a short hop down the highway from the academy only adds to tension for non-evangelicals.
Meade Warthen, a civilian spokesman for the academy, stands by the academy's efforts, adding that it takes heat not only from critics like Weinstein but also from those who say it does too much to accommodate other religions.
Back at the solstice preparations, with glue guns drawn and takeout pizza within easy reach, the pagan cadets decorated yule logs with bits of ribbon and glitter. Yule logs, whose ritual burning symbolizes faith in the reappearance of the sun, will be displayed alongside the Christmas trees and menorahs in next month's crowded religious calendar at the academy.
And though Johnson acknowledges that her beliefs are often misunderstood, she says she has taken no serious grief from other cadets, save occasional questions about whether pagans dance naked (she doesn't) or whether she can cast a spell on commanding officers (she wouldn't even if she could).
The rule is no spells cast without someone's permission. There is a prevailing tenet of her faith, she says: Do as you will, but harm no one.
