The Camelot Oracle

The Camelot Oracle
I have a new set of oracular divination cards. I call them this because they're not really tarot cards in the usual sense. They describe themselves as an Oracle card set and I will go with this description. Especially given that I am going to DELPHI soon to see THE Oracle. Seems appropriate that I should "gem up" on this ovatic tradition.

The set was devised by that eminent Celtic mythology scholar and druidical wise one - John Matthews. Of course, he got Will Worthington to do the artwork for the cards. Any sensible person in this field would do. I have several other sets of tarot cards featuring his excellent artwork (e.g. The Wildwood Tarot, The Druidcraft Tarot) and I highly recommend them for anyone in the field of druidic divination.

The Camelot Oracle cover

As you know, though, my work has been taking on an Arthurian bent over the past few years. Since 2010, when I encountered Merlin as a tutor and guide along my spiritual path, I have found that I have been working through Arthurian archetypes each year. This year seems like no exception to that, but trying to find information about Galahad/Gwalchaved is very difficult. Hence, I felt I needed a meditation tool that would allow me to get into "the spirit" of this archetype. When I saw the Camelot Oracle, and that it was written by John Matthews, then I needed only a split second to decide to buy it.

I have only read the manual about them - I haven't tried using them yet. This being The Quiet Time I'm not wanting to stir things up just yet. I will get acquainted with the set first, for the next few weeks, and then when it comes to that all-important Imbolc or Spring Equinox moment when the year begins in earnest I will do my first draw with these cards and then report back on their efficacy for me.

As the set uses the Arthurian Archetypes I fully expect that I will be aligned to their output. I need first to confirm that my "champion" for this year is what I expect it to be. Once this is done I'm off - full flow - and let's see where it takes me this year.

Mystic Bastard Day Four

Mystic Bastard Day Four
Mystic Faerie 2007, Deck of the Bastard 2013

I really like the pentacles suit in the Mystic Faerie Tarot. In each suit of this deck, a story is told through the progression of the cards. This works and doesn't work-it's a fun idea, but some cards are bit off the mark as far as traditional interpretation goes. In the pentacles suit, a faerie gets lost from her family and decides to live in an area where she finds herself-there's plenty to eat there, and she can make baskets and a shelter. But she soon finds it lonely without company, and after having her little home ransacked by some rats, she is befriended by mice, who take her into their community. The Six of Pentacles shows the faerie and the mice sharing their bounty with one another, in the spirit of charity and generosity often associated with this card. It's a really cute card. I love those little mice!

Then in contrast, we have the King of Swords, standing against a black background in his cold armor, with sword in hand. What in the world could be happening with me today that I should draw two such contrasting cards?

I'm not sure what the day holds, but I have taken some decisive action recently, and it has involved scrutiny and generosity (or at least the distribution of goods - in this case, my time). I have decided to leave Aeclectic Tarot and make my account inactive. It has become as much a time suck as ever Facebook was, and with nearly as few benefits to me. It's simply time to move on, and I hope the extra time I gain will be put to better use through engaging more fully with the blogging community, making more time for meditation and other pursuits, and of course, more time for serving those who are kind enough to honour me by ordering a reading.

Still I can't wait to see how Six of Pentacles + King of Swords manifests itself today. A charitable act cut down? A misguided attempt at charity seen through? An act of kindness leads to a realization?

Edmonton Tarot Introduction

Edmonton Tarot Introduction
Those of us who love tarot know that its imagery is all around us - sometimes in the most surprising forms and places! I'm going to do a series of posts focusing on tarot imagery that I've found right here in Edmonton where I live. As usual, these posts will be intermittent although I'll try to post a new Edmonton tarot card every Friday.

The series will focus on the 22 cards of the Major Arcana. I'll briefly describe the meaning of each card and then tell you about the Edmonton photo I've chosen to illustrate it. All the photos have been taken by myself, My Rare One or by friends. I deliberately avoided using Edmonton photos that I could simply find on the internet because where's the fun and challenge in that? My only other rule for this series was that all the photos must be of public objects or public locations so that anyone can easily see them in Edmonton if they want to.

This post's photo is of a mural painted on the side of Sanctuary Curio Shoppe, a store just south of Whyte Avenue (one of Edmonton's favourite areas for shopping, bars and restaurants). Sanctuary is a wonderfully funky place specializing in pagan, goth and kink merchandise. The mural portrays the artist's interpretation of the Temperance, World and Star cards of the Major Arcana.

Instantly Available Your Tarot Reading Online

Instantly Available Your Tarot Reading Online

By Dorothy Parker

Tarot reading online is an intriguing example of old practices adapting to new technologies. Some people like the idea of being able to access this service from the comfort of home and know that privacy is assured. Readings range from basic and free up to in-depth consultations with experts in this field.

People most often seek a tarot reading online when they are looking for guidance on a particular issue, often regarding relationships, money or work. Those who have a strong belief in the occult arts would say that the cards can also reveal secrets about people around you or even give insights into your own character.

The cards are one of the tools used by those wishing to see into the future. There are other many divination methods, a common one is the reading of horoscopes. Some people chose to make direct contact with a psychic. Whichever option is preferred the underlying hope is always that in gaining insight into possible futures the individual will be better able to adapt to what might happen or even change it.

Many people associate tarot with Egyptian magic and mystic beliefs; others will instantly think of Gypsy Lil at the fairground who will tell your future if you cross her hand with silver. In fact it is most probable that the cards were first introduced in fifteenth century for games and only later adapted for fortune and future telling. Eighteenth century believers in ancient Egyptian mysticism adapted the symbols in the cards to their own belief systems.

Different decks have developed over time, some are considered to be easier to interpret than others; others have a reputation for being somewhat dark. Cards have been designed by world renowned artists like Salvador Dali and also by individuals associated with the magical arts; Aleister Crowley to name but one example. It is suggested online that there may be seventy or more recognized tarot decks.

Whatever the design of the deck it will contain seventy-eight cards. Fifty-six of these are known as the minor arcana. Like playing cards these are arranged into four suits. The other twenty-two comprise the major arcana, they are considered to portray the most powerful principals and elements of life or to represent certain archetypes.

The cards can be laid out in many different ways, the reader will choose the most appropriate pattern for the question in hand. One of the most common and popular arrangements is the Celtic Cross; this ten card spread is believed to represent the questioner, and the influences around them. It is the pattern most often used to give a general life reading.

Individuals who have an interest in the occult say that divination tools such as tarot cards or horoscope are more than games that should be taken lightly. They believe that these are powerful tools which can aid individual growth and offer insights into the subconscious. Those who believe in magic say that these methods can increase intuitive powers and the ability to sense what is going on in the world around.

People seek to look into the future for many reasons. If you are considering finding a tarot reading online you might like to take some time to think about exactly what issues you are seeking guidance about. Thinking this through in advance will increase the likelihood that you will be satisfied with the type of information you are offered.

A Ritual To Bless Your Tarot Cards

A Ritual To Bless Your Tarot Cards
Making a habit of cleansing one's tools and materials is a very important practice to maintain. You may think that you are safe with a new deck of tarot cards, however the materials use to make them probably have been handled, the machines used to manufacture them are maintained by people whose energy can be transferred to the cards through the manufacturing process, and the final product is probably handled by at least one person for quality control.

If you purchased your deck from an online store, you don't know the environment they have been stored it, how they have been handled, or how many people have handled them. If you purchased your deck from a brick-and-mortar store you then have to take into account all the employees who may have handled the deck but also the number of customers who picked up the box and considered buying the deck before you came along and purchased it.

Objects can, and often do, absorb energy from its environment and the people in the environment. Human thoughts and emotions can transcend time and space so what makes you think a little thing like cardboard and plastic can keep out these energies?

Here's a ritual to cleanse a new (or even an old) tarot deck. To perform this ritual you will need:

o Tarot Deck o Blessing Oilo King Solomon Wisdom Oilo Psychic Vision Oil o Candle o Blessing Incenseo Holy Water o Salt o Clean, White Cloth

Begin by setting up your ritual space and placing the items before you in a manner pleasing to your eye. When you are ready, light the candle and incense and then anoint your hand with Blessing Oil, King Solomon Wisdom Oil, and Psychic Vision Oil. Open your cards and look through the deck. Examine each card and notice how you react to each image. Take your time moving through the deck. Next shuffle the cards several times and get a handle for how they feel.

When you are done hold the cards over the Salt and say: "As this salt cleanses and purifies, may these cards be cleansed and purified and serve me to reveal, instruct, and prophesize!"

Shuffle the cards again and then hold them over the Incense and say: "As this incense moves ever skyward, may these cards always be used for the highest good and represent my purest ideals."

Shuffle the cards again and then hold them safely above the Fire Candle and say: "As light dispels darkness, may these cards dispel the shadows of fear and ignorance, revealing only the highest truth."

Shuffle the cards again and then hold them over the Water and say: "As water is fluid, may I always remember that the future is ever changing, and that it is mine to create through the choices that I make."

At this point you may or may not wish to perform your first reading with your cards. Finally, wrap the card in a clean, white cloth and put them in a safe place until you are ready to use them again.

Reading Tarot Cards The Lovers Tarot

Reading Tarot Cards The Lovers Tarot Card May Just Hold Your Relationship Secrets
Author: Tenzin Pemo

Just by its name, you would think that the Lovers card in a Tarot deck would signify romance, love and marriage. Good guess. The Lovers card has a lot to do with relationships, sexuality, personal beliefs, and values.

Has the Lovers card ever come up when you are reading Tarot cards? The Lovers card speaks for itself. The Lovers card is number 6 on the list of Tarot cards.

For most people, when they are looking for advice from either a fortune teller or a psychic, they want the Lovers card to appear.

Why is this?

The Lovers card deals with forming bonds, feeling loved, creating a loving union, acknowledging a relationship bond, having sympathy of another person, becoming closer, establishing a connection, and being intimate.

The Lovers card signifies a world where there are no boundaries to intimacy, romance flourishes, and sex is passionate, but gentle. At the same time the Lovers card represents life-long partnerships, companionship, and trusting another person that you are in love with.

Given that love is such a universal need, it is little wonder that most individuals feel the need for it somewhere in their Tarot reading

1) Breaking Down The Lovers Card

The Lovers card is part of the major arcana. Love is one of the many stages of life, and that means it is a fairly important card in a reading.

The Lovers card represents that an individual is looking for a union, experiencing desire, making love, being open to love, responding with passion, feeling a physical attraction, or tapping into the energy within them.

When this card is turned, predominately, the person who is having their Tarot cards read is in a committed relationship or is looking for attention from the opposite sex.

Because of the personal beliefs of the individual, they are questioning who they are, trying to find where they stand, being true to themselves, walking their on path in life, abiding by their own principles, or making up their own mind.

Overwhelmingly, though, the Lovers card does not represent being a loner. In dealing with the values of the person, they may be deciding what their values are at that time, struggling with temptation, choosing between what is right and wrong, refusing to let the ends justify the means, or discovering what is truly important to them.

2) The Two Types of Lovers Cards

a. The Upright Lovers Card

This card represents being in tune with others and an improvement in the relationships you have, especially ones that are romantic in nature. This card carries a clear message that we should all develop a deep connection with the others that share our lives.

b. The Reversed Lovers card

This card is a warning not to make hasty decisions as you may regret them in the future. You have to be careful with the decisions you make and make sure they feel like the right decisions in your gut. The reversed Lovers also symbolizes bad timing and frustration in relationships

3) Cards That May Reinforce The Lovers Card

There are a few cards in the tarot deck that mean similar things to The Lovers card including such cards as:

a) The Empress

This card represents sexual fulfillment and feeling pleasure in your relationship as well as being very sexually active.

b) Two of Cups

This card symbolizes a union, marriage, or some type of connection. It also stands for happiness of the person that is in that relationship.

c) Nine of Cups

This card stands for outright sexual pleasure. The person is promiscuous and has no qualms about their body.

d) Ten of Cups

This card stands for solid permanent unions and family ties.

e) Ten of Pentacles

This card stands for a person that has been in a long marriage and has full grown children, who they are still close to.

f) Can The Lovers Tarot Card Help your Relationship?

Many people want to know if the Lovers card will be the remedy for their problems in relationships.

It is often the case that people feel that Tarot cards will enlighten them so that they will be able to read their partner. They have the belief that these cards can give them information about relationships they are currently in, as well as past ones.

So can your relationship questions be answered by the Lovers card?

It has been said that that cards reveal secrets in your relationship, which then will reveal other aspects of your life, and then it snowballs. Finally, everything you wanted to know about is exposed to you. The Lovers card may just hold your relationship secrets.

The Benefits Of Obtaining A Tarot Reading Online

The Benefits Of Obtaining A Tarot Reading Online

By Dorothy Parker

From simple predictions of current likely influences to detailed analysis from an experienced individual, tarot reading online offers instant accessibility and ensures privacy. It is an interesting example of arcane arts being utilized in a modern way.

People most often seek a tarot reading online when they are looking for guidance on a particular issue, often regarding relationships, money or work. Those who have a strong belief in the occult arts would say that the cards can also reveal secrets about people around you or even give insights into your own character.

Like horoscope reading, other divining methods and the consultation with those claiming psychic gifts, tarot has long been used as a method of foreseeing the future in the hope of being better able to change or adapt to it. Some will acknowledge it more freely than others, but many people have a desire to know what their future might hold.

It believed that the cards first originated in Italy in the fifteenth century though a lot of people associate them mainly with fairground gypsy fortune tellers whilst others believe that they originally came from Egypt. The Italian decks were firstly used for games and it was only later that their use a divination tool developed. In the eighteenth century the connection with Egyptian symbols and mysticism was made.

There are many different decks, some online sources list as many as seventy. Many have been designed by famous artists such as Salvador Dali, others by individuals associated with the occult such as Aleister Crowley. Some decks have the reputation of being easier to use than others, some are considered to be more disturbing in their imagery.

The seventy-eight cards of the deck are arranged into two divisions; these are the minor arcana and major arcana. The first of these, like a playing deck has four suits. A tarot deck has seventy-eight cards and the other twenty-two are known as the major arcana, these are considered to be the more powerful elements of the deck, representing the elemental forces and principals around us.

There are many ways of spreading the cards, different arrangements suit different questions. The Celtic Cross is a common pattern used to give a life overview. This spread consists of ten cards laid out to represent the person asking the question, their current situation and some of the things going on around them which may influence the present of future.

There are many people offering tarot reading online. Before making contact with a service or individual you might like to consider exactly what it is you what to know and why, this will maximize your chances of finding something that suits you.

Samhain A Time For Divination

Samhain A Time For Divination

Death - The Thirteenth Tarot Card

"By Lisa Finander"

Samhain begins at dusk on October 31st and is the Celtic New Year's Eve. The god of summer is defeated and the god of winter and death now presides over mother earth. This is a special day, the time of year when the veil between the world of the living and the dead is the thinnest, and a time when the communication between these worlds is the strongest. This has its good and bad points, depending on if the visiting spirits are welcome or not!

When inviting loved ones home that usually reside in the Otherworld, it is customary to either set an empty place at the table with food and drink for deceased relatives or leave it outside for any traveling souls returning to the places they once lived. The belief is that the souls nourish themselves on the soul of the food provided. Bonfires (from the English bone-fires) were lit, allowing the dead a place to warm themselves by. Doors, windows, and gates were unlocked to make sure their long-awaited guests knew they were welcome. Jack-o'-lanterns (originally carved turnips) were prominently displayed to protect the living and scare away evil spirits. The carvings depicted protective guardians living in the spirit world.

Samhain is also a time when the ordinary rules of society don't pertain, challenging the established order and introducing chaos. People dress up in costumes switching conventional gender roles, wear masks that emulate spirits or departed ancestors, and both worlds celebrate together.

During this transformational period between light and dark, and life and death, there is an opening - a pause in time when magic is believed to be at its strongest, making it a perfect time for divination and seeing what the next year holds. It's a great time to expand your intuitive skills. You could plan your own divination party and give yourself a "New Year's" reading to boot. Llewellyn has a variety of At the beginning of November, Mexico celebrates "Day of the Dead," or Dia de los Muertos. While the specific dates and observances vary depending on the region, the core of the holiday is the same - to honor family and friends who have died. Cemeteries and homes are decorated with flowers, and offering tables are laid out with gifts of food, clothing and anything the loved one enjoyed in life. Some believe this is a time set aside for remembrance, while others believe that the dead literally return in spirit for a visit, communing with the family and enjoying the essence of the offerings left for them.

However you choose to spend this day, make it a celebration and remembrance of past, present and future love. Take time to stop and honor the sacredness of all your relationships, with special focus on those we can no longer touch. May all your readings be good ones.

Boxing Day Bump

Boxing Day Bump
Servants of the Light Tarot, Aquarian 1991

Bump! Back down to earth we go on Boxing Day. The other day I heard on telly that from a kid's point of view it's the worst day of the year: 364 days until Christmas. Ha ha! When I drew this card today, it reminded me of bumping back down to reality. Bump!

The SERVANTS OF THE LIGHT TAROT (AQUARIAN, 1991) draw for today is Two of Spheres, or 2 of Pentacles. The usual RWS image shows a man juggling two giant coins or pentacles. In this image we see an arm holding a set of scales with two of this deck's glowing spheres balanced on each side of the scale. The cup on the left has the symbol for Jupiter, the lower cup on the right has the symbol for Saturn. Saturn is Time, and the laws of the natural world. Jupiter is our particular path through life, the way we pass Time's tests. The companion book says, 'Jupiter stands for Joy, Life and Wealth; Saturn stands for Death, Age and Want. Which will it be?'

I don't know if it's that simple, but I do know my weigh-in this morning was not good! The card suggests a little more balance is due today, but I have a feeling there'll be lots more nibbling of leftovers and Christmas pudding, so balance is going to have to wait.

Happy Boxing Day!
