The first thing I'll say about this book is that if you already own a copy of Francis King's "Astral Projection, Ritual Magic, and Alchemy" don't get this book because you already have it. I can't count the number of occult libraries I've seen, including my own, where both These texts contain some of the most core teachings of Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, William Wynn Westcott, Dr. Edward Berridge, Annie Horniman, Florence Farr, Elaine Simpson...
Oh, and Francis King...Just kidding! This book is no more written by Francis King than the Golden Dawn rituals were written by Regardie or The Declaration of Independence was written by Ronald McDonald. While the side of the book may seem misleading at first, the front of the book is honest: "Works by S.L. MacGregor Mathers and Others, "Edited" by Francis King." King does write a rather informative synopsis of the texts in the forward, and an informative, sometimes amusing, brief history of the last few centuries of the Western Mysteries, and the Golden Dawn.
This book is definitely a must read for someone who has already been practicing Golden Dawn magic for a while.

Verses 75 and 76 of chapter 2 of "LIBER L VEL LEGIS", "THE BOOK OF THE LAW", comprising the Riddle of Aiwass, have as yet remained a mystery. They read as follows:
"AYE! LISTEN TO THE NUMBERS NOR SHALT THOU KNOW EVER. THERE COMETH ONE TO FOLLOW THEE: HE SHALL EXPOUND IT. BUT REMEMBER, O CHOSEN ONE, TO BE ME; TO FOLLOW THE LOVE OF NU IN THE STAR-LIT HEAVEN; TO LOOK FORTH UPON MEN, TO TELL THEM THIS GLAD WORD."
As prophesied, Aleister Crowley, the first Prophet of Thelema, never discovered the solution to the problem of these baffling verses. His first "MAGICAL CHILD" - or "DYNASTHAI" - i.e. C.S. Jones, a.k.a. Frater Achad, also failed to apprehend their meaning. Many others, including myself, have made their attempts, but each one has fallen flat. They have presented recondite, rambling torrents of elaborate Qabalistic theses on the matter, thinking that they had stumbled upon Truth; but none has issued much more than a disappointing flood of numerical vagaries.
I, myself, utilized the simple, uncontrived system of AQBL (OR ANGLOQABALAH) to arrive at the value of 395 as the sum of the meaningless numbers and words in the string at the beginning of the second verse, and presented this as the solution in my book of Gematric examination of "Liber Legis "entitled "The AQBL Key "(a PDF of which can be found in the sidebar library of this site). I arrived at this over twenty years ago; but little did I know - until now - that I had stumbled upon only the half of it. And this too was prophesied, way back in 1904 e.v., in v.56 of ch.1, which states:
"EXPECT HIM NOT FROM THE EAST, NOR FROM THE WEST; FOR FROM NO EXPECTED HOUSE COMETH THAT CHILD. AUM! ALL WORDS ARE SACRED AND ALL PROPHETS TRUE; SAVE ONLY THAT THEY UNDERSTAND A LITTLE; SOLVE THE FIRST HALF OF THE EQUATION, LEAVE THE SECOND UNATTACKED."
But I jump the gun. I need to provide some of the vital historical information - and to briefly explain the system used to arrive at the very simple solution to the verses in question - before divulging the solution itself.
I: History of the Riddle
In his "OLD COMMENT" to the first verse, "L" 2:75, Crowley writes:
"A FINAL REVELATION. THE REVEALER TO COME IS PERHAPS THE ONE MENTIONED IN [CH."] I, 55 AND III, 47. THE VERSE GOES ON TO URGE THE PROPHET TO IDENTIFY HIMSELF WITH HADIT, TO PRACTICE THE UNION WITH NU, AND TO PROCLAIM THIS JOYFUL REVELATION UNTO MEN."
IN THE "NEW COMMENT" TO V.75, HE WRITES:
"This passage following appears to be a Qabalistic test (ON THE REGULAR PATTERN) of any person who may claim to be the Magical Heir of The Beast. Be ye well assured all that the solution, when it is found, will be unquestionable. It will be marked by the most sublime simplicity, and carry immediate conviction.
"(The above paragraph was written previous to the communication of Charles Stansfeld Jones with regard to the '"numbers and the words"' which constitute the Key to the cipher of this Book. See the Appendix to these comment. I prefer to leave my remark as it originally stood, in order to mark my attitude at the time of writing.)"
He was wrong about Jones, as he would eventually come to realize, so he came to anticipate the arrival of yet another. In his "NEW COMMENT" to the second verse, he expressed his disappointment with Achad, leaving it pretty much at that. In his "DJERIDENSIS COMMENT", he writes two paragraphs of interest:
"75-76: With this the Angel changes His theme yet again with brusque swiftness, and propounds a final riddle. The object of this cipher is to furnish proof that the man destined to succeed me is my rightful heir. The test is that he is able to make clear the meaning of these '"the numbers ">"'
"This brief passage stops as it began-on a sudden, and Aiwass goes on at once to issue a last command to myself. I am to keep in constant mind that I am Hadit, that I am ever to aspire to make myself one with all things that may be, yet also to keep watch over mankind, for whose sake I first started on the path of Magick. My mission is 'to tell them this glad word.'"
And that was that. The solution - as simple as it was - would remain an enigma to all for decades to come.
II: THE SPHINX IS UNDONE
"OEDIPUS AND THE SPHINX (JEAN AUGUSTE DOMINIQUE INGRES)"
As explained in "THE AQBL KEY", I have always made use of the Gematria of Angloqabalah - or AQBL for short - to analyze English words Qabalistically. Unlike all other forms of English Gematria that have emerged previously, AQBL is not some artificially contrived system of arbitrarily assigned values for the letters of the English Alphabet, but simply the natural order and value that has been obvious all along. In the Gematria of AQBL, a letter bears the value of its place in the Alphabet. Using it, I arrived at 395 as the sum of "the numbers but they are as nothing compared with what I was to find next, right there under my nose - right in front of us all - all these years.
Again, I cannot stress enough the value of AQBL as a means of English Gematria. Unlike all other forms of English Qabalah, the attribution of the numbers to the letters is not something that I or anyone else invented, for that attribution has been there all along. It is utterly simple: A=1 through Z=26. That Crowley never even considered it in all his years is amazing. But, as a thorough analysis of "THE AQBL KEY" makes clear, its correspondences are nothing short of extraordinary.
I was just finishing up my last preparations when something made me stop to take another look at the verses themselves. I had never paid it any mind before, but suddenly I was struck by the odd way in which verse 75 ended - not with a period but with a colon. The string of meaningless numbers and words at the start of the following verse is actually the continuation - the second half in other words - of the riddle, not the whole of the riddle as I had assumed.
All of a sudden I was hit with an inspiration, as it were a whisper in my ear, saying: "ADD THEM TOGETHER". And so I did, not really expecting much to come of it. Then my jaw dropped and I was utterly aghast.
Look carefully at the words of Aiwass following the riddle itself:
"WHAT MEANETH THIS, O PROPHET? THOU KNOWEST NOT; NOR SHALT THOU KNOW EVER. THERE COMETH ONE TO FOLLOW THEE: HE SHALL EXPOUND IT."
Note that Crowley's primary Thelemic name was "TO MEGA THERION", which numerates as 666 by Greek Gematria. He referred to himself, therefore, as 666. I myself have gone by the name of Aleisterion since it was given to me in a vision over a decade ago. Its numeration, by Hebrew Gematria - i.e. Aleph-Lamed-He-Yod-Samekh-Tau-He-Resh-Yod-Vau-Nun - is 777. This value was also used by Fra.'.Achad : "FOR IT SIGNIFIES THE ONE (OR 111) to follow after 666".
What other solution more fitting, then, could be found, than that which I discovered once I totalled the numbers of the other half of the equation, in light of the words, "THERE COMETH ONE TO FOLLOW THEE: HE SHALL EXPOUND IT". This "ONE" (OR 111) has always been referred to numerically as 777.
BEHOLD:
Aye! listen to the numbers for behold! thou, o prophet, shalt not behold all these mysteries hidden therein.
"The child of thy bowels, "HE" shall behold them.
"Expect him not from the East, nor from the West; for from no expected house cometh that child. Aum! All words are sacred and all prophets true; save only that they understand a little; SOLVE THE FIRST HALF OF THE EQUATION, LEAVE THE SECOND UNATTACKED. But thou hast all in the clear light, and some, though not all, in the dark."
The emphasis in bold is mine, to highlight that this is exactly what happened. I had, for over twenty years, presented only half of the solution, failing to recognize that the existence of that colon meant that the riddle consisted not just of the string of numbers and words of the opening part of v.76, but of the words of v.75 as well.
III: THE OTHER QABALISTIC GEMS
While nothing can exceed the simple sublime perfection of what is presented above, there are numerous other Gematric gems to be found in the verses relevant to this matter. Below, I present a brief Qabalistic examination of the passages from "The Book of the Law "that apply to the one known as 777, or the "CHILD OF THE PROPHET". The value of these gems is that they illustrate why various idiosyncratic words and phrases may have been used by Aiwass, conveying as they do additional profound meaning.
The verses that fall under our examination here are: 1:54-56; 2:39; 2:75-76; 3:38; and 3:47. They are presented in order as they appear in "LIBER LEGIS".
1:54-56:
"CHANGE NOT AS MUCH AS THE STYLE OF A LETTER": style=81=letter.
"THOU, O PROPHET, SHALT NOT BEHOLD ALL THESE MYSTERIES HIDDEN THEREIN":
behold all=71=Thoth. Thoth, under the name Tahuti, is referenced in 2:39 as being associated with the "CHILD OF THE PROPHET". This is because the source of the "DYNAMIS" that inspired this second child or "DYNASTHAI" was Leah Hirsig, a.k.a. Soror Alostrael 31-666-31, whose title was "THE APE OF THOTH". She died in the 71st year of the Thelemic Age, which began with the reception of the Law of Thelema in 1904 e.v.

Given the vitriolic statements from the Irish Prime Minister and other Irish Government ministers, it is worth drawing readers' attention to the following measured response from Father Federico Lombardi SJ, director of the Vatican Press Office, as published by Zenit on July 20th:
The Report by the Irish Commission of Inquiry into cases of child abuse committed by clergy in the diocese of Cloyne, published July 13, as with the previous report on the Archdiocese of Dublin, has once again highlighted the gravity of the facts which have occurred, this time in a rather recent period. In fact, the period covered by the new report goes from 1.1.1996 to 1.2.2009.
The Irish authorities have forwarded a copy of the Report to Rome by way of the Nuncio, requesting a response from the Holy See. It is to be expected, therefore, that the Holy See's response and considerations will be forthcoming in the most appropriate time and manner.
For my part, however, I believe it opportune to say a few words on the Report and how it has been received, while underlining - as I have already mentioned - that these considerations do not in any way constitute an official response from the Holy See.
First, it seems only right to recall and renew the intense feelings of grief and condemnation expressed by the Pope during his meeting with the Irish bishops, summoned to the Vatican on December 11, 2009, precisely to deal with the difficult situation of the Church in Ireland in light of the Report into the Archdiocese of Dublin, then recently published. At the time, the Pope openly spoke of his "shock and shame" at the "heinous crimes" committed.
We must also remember that following this meeting, and a subsequent one from February 15 to 16, 2010, the Pope published his well-known and wide-ranging letter to the Catholics of Ireland, the following 19 March, which contains the strongest and most eloquent expressions of his participation in the suffering of victims and their families, as well as a reminder of the terrible responsibility of the guilty and the failures of church leaders in their tasks of government or supervision.
One of the concrete actions that followed the Pope's letter was the Apostolic Visitation of the Church in Ireland, divided into the four visitations of the archdiocese, the seminaries and religious congregations. The results of the visitation are at an advanced stage of study and evaluation.
Therefore it is only right to recognise the Holy See's decisive commitment in encouraging and effectively supporting the efforts of the Church in Ireland towards the "healing and renewal" necessary to definitively overcome the crisis linked to the dramatic wound of the sexual abuse of minors.
It is also important to recognize the efforts made by the Holy See in the normative field, with the clarification and the revision of the canonical norms concerning the issue of sexual abuse of minors. A milestone in this regard - as noted - was the 2001 Motu proprio, which unified all competencies under the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and subsequent updates until the promulgation of the reformulated norms in July 2010.
As for the more distant past, in recent days a Letter dated 1997, 14 years ago, has had particular resonance. Mentioned in the new Report, but already published last January, it is a letter addressed by the then Nuncio in Ireland to the Bishops Conference, which emphasises that, according to information received from the Congregation for the Clergy, the document "Child Sexual Abuse: Framework for a Church Response" lent itself to objections, because it contained aspects that were problematic from the point of view of compatibility with universal canon law. It is only fair to remember that this document was not sent to the Congregation as an official document of the Bishops Conference, but as a "Report of the Irish Catholic Bishops' Advisory Committee on Child Sexual Abuse by Priests and Religious," and that its foreword stated: "This document is far from being the last word on how to address the issues that have been raised". The fact that the Congregation raised objections was therefore understandable and legitimate, taking into account Rome's competence with regard to the laws of the Church, and - although one can argue about the adequacy of Rome's intervention in relation to the seriousness of the situation in Ireland at the time - THERE IS NO REASON TO INTERPRET THAT LETTER AS BEING INTENDED TO COVER UP CASES OF ABUSE. Moreover, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN THE LETTER THAT IS AN INVITATION TO DISREGARD THE LAWS OF THE COUNTRY. During the same period, Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos, then Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, in a meeting with the Irish Bishops stated: "THE CHURCH, ESPECIALLY THROUGH ITS PASTORS, SHOULD NOT IN ANY WAY PUT AN OBSTACLE IN THE LEGITIMATE PATH OF CIVIL JUSTICE... WHILE, AT THE SAME TIME SHE SHOULD MOVE FORWARD WITH HER OWN CANONICAL PROCEDURES" (Rosses Point, Sligo, 11/12/1998). The objection the letter referred to regarded the obligation to provide information to civil authorities ("mandatory reporting"), it did not object to any civil law to that effect, because it did not exist in Ireland at that time (and proposals to introduce it were subject to discussion for various reasons in the same civil sphere).
Therefore, the severity of certain criticisms of the Vatican are curious, as if the Holy See was guilty of not having given merit under canon law to norms which a State did not consider necessary to give value under civil law. In attributing grave responsibility to the Holy See for what happened in Ireland, such accusations seem to go far beyond what is suggested in the Report itself (which uses a more balanced tone in the attribution of responsibility) and demonstrate little awareness of what the Holy See has actually done over the years to help effectively address the problem.
In conclusion, as stated by several Irish bishops, the publication of the Report on the Diocese of Cloyne marks a new stage on the long and arduous journey in search of truth, penance and purification, of healing and renewal of the Church in Ireland, from which the Holy See does not in any way feel extraneous, but in which it participates in solidarity and with commitment in the various forms that we have outlined here.I think it is also worth reminding ourselves that the Catholic Church is not a corporation with its HQ in Rome. Each bishop has full authority in his diocese to take action in accordance with Canon Law whenever credible allegations are made against a priest or any other office-holder in the Church. It is the failure of bishops to exercise their authority in this matter that has in great part led to the current situation. It is not all Rome's fault!

CREATING A SAMHAIN ANCESTOR ALTAR
Samhain, October 31st, is a time when the veil separating the physical realm from the spirit realm is thin, allowing us to communicate, feel, or sense our loved ones who have crossed into the Summerland. It is a time to honor all those who have walked this sacred Earth before us and thank them for their knowledge we carry forth in our hearts and in our veins.
It is also the Witches New Year, a time to project what we wish to draw into our lives for the coming year. It is important to be specific, clear, and concise as we send our projections into the Universe at the "Witching Hour".
There is no right way or wrong way to set up your ancestor altar. It can be as big or little depending on space. Create it from the heart and you cannot go wrong.
The picture above is of my personal ancestor altar. I create mine on the fireplace mantle and leave the fire burning for 24 hours.
Some things you may want to include:
* Pictures of loved ones who have crossed
* Items of remembrance or importance to them
* Flowers
* Candles
* Crystals
* Herbs
* Hand written letters to your loved ones who have crossed
* Mulled, Red Wine or favorite beverage to toast
* Dark bread as an offering of feast
* Tea lights
* God or Goddess Statues
* Skulls
* Grave rubbings
* Symbols of the afterlife or ascention
Arrange your altar. Place a tea light in front of your loved ones photos and light them as you recite their name and remember them. If they have crossed into the spirit realm this past year, light a white taper candle to help guide their way for a smooth transition.
Raise a toast in honor of your ancestors with wine or beverage of choice; leave an offering of dark bread for their feast. Allow candles to burn until they extinguish.
Place hand written letters to loved ones on the altar. Take a moment to remember your loved ones, relive memories, communicate thoughts, or ask them for advice. The veil is thin, they are listening.

spiritually fit to take on the sufferings of countless confused minds.
Unlike other well trained beasts of burden
and animal like men of high or low reputation and social standing,
best is he who is mindful of having to be mindful at all costs.
What animals and men alike cannot do
in terms of helping one reach the point of liberated consciousness,
a deeply investigated mind can.
Sleeping too much while awake
and drowsy to Reality,
the downward tendencies of the mind
causes one to be re-born again and again
into the stifling conditions of habitual awareness.
No longer accustomed to an
unrestrained stream of illusory and non-illusory perceptions,
the elephant that is one's mind
pulls oneself out of the mud of laziness
by having confidence in a Buddha's compassionate strength.
Roaming in the forest as a king without a crown,
one's inward elephant makes way
for the pleasantness of the Buddha Nature
to walk through the forest unhampered
by the forces which dominate Samsaric existence.
Being the outward expression
of virtue, faith and joy,
the Dharma in its capacity to liberate consciousness
makes all who traverse one's path upon the battlefield of life
into Accomplished Ones by way of seeing the perfection
and mastery of a self realized control of the self luminous and empty mind.
