Jacked Up Cards Three Of Swords

Every tarot reader feels there are some cards you just don't want to see in your readings, whether they are for self or others. The gods be damned Three of Swords is one of them. "HEARTBREAK!" it screams. "DESPAIR!" Tears are sure to follow, right?
"The dark and stormy skies in the traditional tarot image are deeply reflective of the very idea of having "the blues", and Golden Dawn tradition titles the card, "Lord of Sorrow". Heartache is a common keyword assigned to the card, but I argue that is not the best possible one. If this card was about heartbreak, it would most likely be in the watery suit of Cups, most often associated with emotions, or possibly Pentacles, relating to all things of this earth, including our bodies, because most of us are unfortunate enough to know that hearts really can hurt. A card signifying heartache could even be found in the Wands, dealing with our spirits and passions, but this card is found in the suit of Swords, which has to do with thoughts and communications. Threes can be
"The astrology of the card is Saturn in Libra, according to Mr. Crowley, and others, and Saturn has to do with our life's learning experiences, among other things, while Libra is mainly concerned with how we relate, and above all things, keeping it fair. One of our first life lesson comes at a tender age when we plaintively wail, "But that isn't FAIR"!" to some seemingly uncaring adult, and we all know what their response generally was- "Life isn't fair. Get used to it." True, but harsh words.
By its' very nature, Libra desires to be balanced, but Threes are not balanced. They are the antithesis of balance, the very thing that can upset the careful balance of the Twos and lacking the stabilization of the Fours. Saturn does not mean to be a right ol' bastard, but the fact of the matter is most of us do not learn while everything is going our way, so difficulty and challenge tend to be the things that spur growth. The pairing is not very harmonious, and that brings us to the title of "Sorrow" for this oft-maligned card.
The advice this card offers is to go ahead and face whatever you need to face, because pain and love are alike in some ways- you can't go around it, under, nor over. The only way through is straight and narrow. The gift that can be taken away when this card shows up, and it will, is that we are in control of our thoughts. They may, in fact, be the only thing we are in control of fully, and the way we think about a situation has everything to do with how we experience the situation. That doesn't make it easier when marriages crumble or jobs are lost, or all the tragedies large and small that we all experience happen, but it does make it endurable.
And life always circles around to where we are not just getting by, but celebrating again.
"These Three of Swords cards are from the Victorian Romantic Tarot by Karen Mahony and Alex Ukolov at Baba Studio, the Pamela Colman Smith Commemorative deck, and the Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot, painted by Lady Frieda Harris, trimmed by me, both for US Games."

Spell To Ease A Broken Heart
Posted by

/ 10:02 PM /
You will need the following ingredients (be sure to charge or bless them all before you begin):
* Strawberry tea (one bag)
* Small wand or stick from a willow tree
* Sea salt
* 2 pink candles
* A mirror
* One pink drawstring bag
* One quartz crystal
* A copper penny
* A bowl made of china or crystal that is special to you
* 1 teaspoon dried jasmine
* 1 teaspoon orris-root powder
* 1 tsp. strawberry leaves
* 1 teaspoon yarrow
* 10 plus drops apple-blossom oil or peach oil
* 10 plus drops strawberry oil
On a Friday morning or evening (the day sacred to Venus) take a bath in sea salt in the light of a pink candle. As you dry off and dress, sip the strawberry tea. Use a dab of strawberry oil as perfume or cologne. Apply makeup or groom yourself to look your best.
Cast a circle with the willow wand around a table the other ingredients. Light the second pink candle. Mix all oils and herbs in the bowl. While you stir look at yourself in the mirror and say aloud:
"Oh, Great Mother Goddess, enclose me in your loving arms"and nurture and bring forth the Goddess within me."
Gaze deeply into the mirror after you have finished mixing the ingredients and say aloud:
"I represent the Great Goddess, Mother of all things."I shine in the light of the Golden Wings of Isis."All that is great and loving only belongs to me."
Then put half the mixture in the pink bag and add the penny and crystal. Carry it with you always [or until you find another love]. Leave the other half of the potion in the bowl, out in a room where you will smell the fragrance. Repeat this ritual every Friday if necessary.
Needless to say, you should replace the goddess name with one that you attune to.
This spell seems to be written for a woman. However, that does not truly exclude anyone, including you. As well as calling on the Mother Goddess you can call, as well, the Father God (or Horned One).
You could use something like:
"Great Father God, guide me with your loving will "and keep me strong and patient with your wisdom."Nurture and bring forth the God within me."
"I am the Great Father God, Mentor and Father to all, "I shine in the Holy radiant light of Ra."All that is great and loving, only, belongs to me."
Now, you can call on one or the other, whomever you feel will help you best. I would think both would be best, but that's just a personal thing. And if anything written above doesn't appeal to you, change it. The spell will only work if you feel comfortable with it. If the words don't appeal, look for a poem, or create your own calling of the GODS. Remember, not only are you calling the Goddess and God, you ARE the Goddess and God.

Witching Culture: Folklore and Neo-Paganism in America by Sabina Magliocco
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Sabina Magliocco is a professor and California State University Northridge, the school from where I received my teaching credential. Before that she taught back eat as an associate professor. Once might say that certain event in her life cause her to embrace the path of Neo-Paganism. Her first ritual was with Starhawke.
After getting through a rather tedious introduction that almost put me to sleep I got into the main body of the book. The first chapter gave an over all history of neo paganism starting back to the interest I the noble savage and the desire to reconnect with nature and the borrowing over from Masonic rituals and Ceremonial magic. It offered a critical look at the accepted history from an insider view who still appreciated that mythologized history was needed for a mind set appropriate for the Neo Pagan. The first chapter got me hooked. Doctor Magliocco's work was informative, interesting and easy to read.
Chapter two covered the loose and fluid boundaries of Paganism. Paganism differs from today's religion in that boundaries are not so clear. Some Pagans belong to multiple groups and tradition. Some people are pagan for a short period in their life and then move on. Most Pagans are solitaires attending big group rituals for the eight sabbats as part of an outer court and getting most of their information from book and workshops. Most Pagans are more educated than most and tend to come from the Middle Class. They strive for employment that enables them to be of service and money is not that big a deal to them. Jokes with in the Pagan community are not only for humor but also serve to help identify who is part of the in group.
To be a witch or a Pagan, two terms which do not necessarily mean the same thing as witches practice magic and not all pagans are witches or practice magic. To be a Pagan puts one in the role of a rebel or someone critical of society. Pagans are critical of the rampant materialism and often identify with the underdogs. Many witches will identify with the victims of the burning times and the victimhood of other people. They see themselves as being oppressed by the Christian majority.
Magic and ecstasy are also discussed some see magic as transforming the world the better. A good example of world repair magick would be Starhawkes "Reclaiming Tradition". Other see magic as changing the individual or their perception of things. Ecstasy could sometimes mean being put into a trance and being able to receive messages or travel spiritually to other dimensions. Possession and aspecting are also discussed. Aspecting is when you let a deity or spirit take over your body temporally and aspecting is bring the deity out from their internal niche within.
The Last chapter addresses 'Cultural Appropriation" which is taking element from other cultural paradigms and applying to your own or a hodge podge system. Many form of magic and religion share the same characteristic and often times when cultures come into contact with each other they borrow elements. Some see this as theft or as leaving the Deity with out a context. Others see borrowing as natural and deities communicate no matter what the language. Excellent book.

Okra Baths To Break Evil Magic
Posted by
Unknown
/ 9:08 PM /
In past postings I discussed the magical power of okra and how it can be used in protective work. Okra is also useful in breaking evil, curses and any kind of negativity. One of the best ways to do this is to make a magical bath with okra.
Okra baths are effective in a single application or you can do them regularly as part of a spiritual hygiene routine. Whenever I feel that someone has thrown some serious curses at me, or even reversed work back at me, I use an okra bath to shatter the curse or evil, and allow me to smoothly move through life slipping out of its grasp. It's important to note that if you are allergic to okra you should not be doing this bath.
HOW TO PREPARE A MAGICAL BATH WITH OKRAOkra baths need to be made a bit in advance in order to get the most out of the herb. Okra emits a slimy juice, it's characteristic herbal property, that reacts with water to create a mucilage. This slippery, slimy juice is what breaks the evil magic and also allows you to slide under the radar and escape enemy attack.
"You'll need:"
* About 20 fresh okra pods
* A large basin
* Fresh water
* A sieve or strainer
Start by pouring about 2 cups of fresh water into the basin. Now begin manually breaking up the okra pods with your hands in the water. Try to rip them up into the smallest pieces you can. Use your hands and pray over the okra, asking that God shatter any evil that has been sent at you. Once you have broken up all of the pods with your hands, begin scooping them up in your hands and squeezing as much juice as you can out of them. Keep adding water, cup by cup taking time to squeeze the pods and extract their juice into the water between additions. Once you've filled the basin up with enough water for a magical bath set the basin aside to sit for about half an hour. (Use reason to figure this out - quantities are NOT specific here. All you need is enough to dump over your head and cover your body.)
After the bath has sit for about half an hour, being to scoop the bits of okra out of the fluid. Give them a good squeeze and place them into the strainer (holding the strainer over the basin - the mucilage will continue to drain out into the basin). Once you've gotten all of the okra bits out of the bath and you have a strainer full of the stuff, use your hand to press the last bits of juice out of the herbs, allowing it to fall into the bath. Then take the okra chunks and toss them in the garbage. All we need is the juice.
Stir the bath up well with your hands. As you do so, you'll note it's VERY slimy. This is precisely what we want.
Take your basin into the bathroom. Light two white candles and place them on either side of the tub or shower to that you will cross between them as you exit the tub (like a gateway of light). Disrobe and take the basin with you into the tub. Now begin by praying Psalm 37 "Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and whither as the green herb!" (or you can read the psalm in its entirety) If you don't like reading the psalms you can also just pray in your own words to your higher power for it to shatter the curses laid against you, wipe you clean of any evil and restore you to peace and grace.
Now, pour the bath over you from your head down to your feet. Yes it is slimy. Yes it feels weird. Yes it really works!
Make sure to cover EVERY part of your body with the bath. Then set the basin outside of the tub. You can then shower off the slime, making sure to get it all off. Once you are fully clean you can exit the shower passing between the two lit candles and towel dry. You can also pinch out the candles and reuse them for another bath, or if this is a one-off bath, just set them on a counter or your altar and let them burn down completely.
You should notice how good you feel IMMEDIATELY after the bath. Dress in clean light colored clothes and avoid getting agitated or angry for that day. Do something relaxing and keep your calm. If you have a protective oil or mojo bag you can wear, it's a good idea to use it after you've dried off from the bath.
**NOTE**This is one example of a magical bath that is NOT left on the body to dry. While the slime has healing properties and IS very good for the skin, you don't want to keep it on your body. Additionally, this is a magical bath where you DO NOT capture your used bath water. Just let it run down the drain and rinse out the shower or tub after you are done.

Amnesty Says Saudi Beheading For Sorcery Shocking

Jakarta Globe, December 13, 2011
Dubai. Rights group Amnesty International has described as "deeply shocking" Saudi Arabia's beheading of a woman convicted on charges of "sorcery and witchcraft," saying it underlined the urgent need to end executions in the kingdom.
Saudi national Amina bint Abdul Halim bin Salem Nasser was executed on Monday in the northern province of al-Jawf after being tried and convicted for practicing sorcery, the interior ministry said, without giving details of the charges.
"The citizen... practiced acts of witchcraft and sorcery," Saudi newspaper al-Watan cited the interior ministry as saying. "The death sentence was carried out on the accused yesterday (Monday) in the Qurayyat district in al-Jawf region."
Saudi Arabia, an absolute monarchy, has no written criminal code, which is instead based on an uncodified form of Islamic sharia law as interpreted by the country's judges.
"While we don't know the details of the acts which the authorities accused Amina of committing, the charge of sorcery has often been used in Saudi Arabia to punish people, generally after unfair trials, for exercising their right to freedom of speech or religion," Philip Luther, interim director of Amnesty's Middle East and North Africa program, said in a statement.
Amnesty said the execution was the second of its kind in recent months. A Sudanese national was beheaded in the Saudi city of Medina in September after being convicted on sorcery charges, according to the London-based group.
Amnesty put at 79 the number of executions in Saudi Arabia so far this year, nearly triple the figure in 2010.

Significance Of Candle Types
Posted by

/ 3:12 AM /
For the Smaller Candles I suggest you use the Seals of Solomon and Spirit Seals. Note: Never mix Ellegua and Oshun together they are enemies of the ninth degree.
DEVOTIONAL FIGURE CANDLE:
Dolphins, Seashells, Unicorns, etc. In this case, choose what suits the spell. I have found that if the Goddess or God wants an offering they will guide you to it. For example: Erzulie's an Ocean Dweller, so Seashells are appropriate. To light a Seashell Candle in Her honor will most certainly get her attention and appreciation.
SKULL CANDLE:
Use this for a thick skull! When you have to get inside someone's head, this is the ticket. Ellegua, remover of all obstacles is at work here. Use Uncrossing Oil.
CAT FIGURE CANDLE:
Luck is the key here and that's what those in the know of Voodoo use for their gambling winnings. Anoint a Black or Red Cat Candle with Gambler's Oil, and burn in front of a Lucky Seven Candle HINT: {your lucky numbers can be inscribed on both your Lucky Seven and Cat Candle for extra Power} Need a change of luck in general? Burn a Red Cat Candle dressed with Lucky Lodestone Oil in front of a Solar Blast Candle that's been dresses with 9 Fruits Oil or Ode To Joy Oil.
FEMALE FIGURE CANDLE:
This works the same way as the Male Figure, but here's a very interesting variation for women who are shy, or just in a rut. Take your Figure Candle and anoint it with either Passion Oil or Voodoo Nights Oil. Burn this in front of a Flirtation Candle and you'll not only find yourself getting there to meet men, you'll be a {HOT} number! Here's a little secret: having problems keeping a man once you've met? Then burn a White Figure dressed with Femme Blanche Oil in front of a Femme Blanche Candle.
MALE FIGURE CANDLE:
This is used singularly to attract a man to come to you. We use this with a Female Figure, and the Spell is to bring the lovers together. Both ways accomplish the same thing; it depends on how you want to work it. Figure Candles are good for developing visualization. I recommend burning these in front of a Come To Me Candle or Hypnotic with Midnight or Mystery Oil. On the Figure Candles you have a very potent combination. Burn Passionate Lovers Incense and you have amour extraordinaire.
WITCH CANDLE:
Care to be a Witch someone Special? Then use a Red Witch Candle anointed with Bewitching Oil and burn this in front of a Midnight
Candle. Both names should be included on the Witch Candle. Use Black Opium Incense or Voluptuous Venus Incense while the party
is there. The effects are DAZZLING.
DEVIL CANDLE:
Famous for their lucky attributes. Voodoo Rootmen use them often. You know the phrase " Lucky Devil "? Well, these candles are anointed with Flying Devil Oil and burned in front of an Uncrossing Candle. I've seen people with the worst problems have them turn around. This works best on Red Devil's. If you can't obtain a Red Devil Candle and you want to use this spell, then use a plain Red Candle instead.
CROSS CANDLE:
Did you ever hear the expression; " He has to heavy a cross to bear?" There is a wonderful booklet written called Secrets of the Psalms. Burn an Uncrossing Candle anoint with Hyssop or Uncrossing Oil. Use Hi John Incense and read the appropriate Psalm over the candle. This works very well with all the Enchanted Candles, but the best with Uncrossings, House Blessings, Healings, Solar Blasts and the like. They are all right for Love and Money, but better when used for the more Spiritual needs.
SEVEN DAY SAINT CANDLE:
These mostly describe themselves. Usually a Prayer is included on the candle, which will explain what the candle is for. If you're unsure and you are buying your stock in a reputable store, the staff will be able to help answer some questions for you. I strongly advise you buy your Magickal supplies in a store with good vibes, as these will absorb negativity, which will lessen the strength and Power of your Spell. Some Deities will not even come when summoned if the supplies the spell is conjured with are unclean.

A Day In The Life Of A Green Witch

WHEN YOU COOK UP WONDERFUL TASTY DISHES FOR YOUR FAMILY, YOU KEEP THIS KIND OF HERBAL MAGICK IN MIND. DOES YOUR FAMILY SEEM A LITTLE CHAOTIC, DISCONNECTED, OR ARGUMENTATIVE TODAY? DROP A PINCH OF ROSEMARY OR SAGE IN THE STEW OR MASHED POTATOES. THE GENERAL PUBLIC USES HERBS EVERY DAY IN ALL KINDS OF MUNDANE WAYS WHEN THEY COOK, NEVER REALIZING THE MAGICKAL POTENTIAL CONTAINED WITHIN THEM. OH, AND BE SURE TO STIR YOUR COOKING POTS FULL OF FOOD DEOSIL ONLY TO INSTILL POSITIVE ENERGY.
THE GREEN WITCH WILL USE HERBS WHEN CLEANING HER HOUSE, OR SCRUBBING HER FLOORS...A LITTLE ROSEMARY WASH WILL CLEAR YOUR LIVING SPACE IN A MAGICKAL WAY AS YOU CLEAN AWAY THE MUNDANE DIRT AND GRIME. ARE YOU HAVING A LITTLE PROBLEM WITH MISCHIEVOUS SPIRITS AND IT'S TIME FOR THEM TO GO? LIGHT A WHITE CANDLE AND A STICK OF SAGE OR SOME SANDALWOOD INCENSE; WALK DEOSIL AROUND EACH ROOM, SMUDGING THE AREA.
ARE YOU A BUSY SOCCER MOM CHAUFFEURING KIDS FROM SCHOOL TO VARIOUS EVENTS AND PRACTICES? THE GREEN WITCH WILL HAVE WITHIN HER VEHICLE A MOJO BAG FOR SAFE TRAVEL, WITHIN IT WILL BE PLANTAIN, CALAMUS ROOT, AND A STONE OF TIGER EYE. IF SHE'S LIKE ME, SHE'LL ALSO HAVE A SPECIAL STONE TALISMAN CREATED SPECIFICALLY TO KEEP HER PASSENGERS SAFE, TUCKED DISCREETLY BENEATH THE SEAT.
YOUR CHILD AWAKENS YOU DURING THE NIGHT WITH BAD DREAMS OR FEARS OF SHADOWS AND BOOGIE MEN? GIVE HER A SMALL SAUCER OF SALT ON HER BEDSIDE STAND AND INSTRUCT HER TO TAKE A PINCH AND TOSS IT AT THE SHADOWS THAT FRIGHTEN HER. NOT ONLY WILL THIS CLEAR AWAY UNWANTED ENTITIES, YOU HAVE JUST TAUGHT YOUR DAUGHTER THAT SHE HAS NOTHING TO FEAR AND THAT SHE IS THE ONE IN CONTROL OF HER LIVING SPACE.
HAVING TROUBLE WINDING DOWN AT THE END OF THE DAY TO GET MUCH NEEDED SLEEP? TIE A BUNDLE OF LAVENDER TOGETHER AND DROP IT INTO YOUR BATH WATER. LIGHT A WHITE CANDLE AND SOAK, GROUNDING YOURSELF, CLEARING YOUR MIND AND RELAXING YOUR BODY. FINISH UP THE DAY WITH A HOT CUP OF CHAMOMILE TEA JUST BEFORE TURNING OUT THE LIGHTS.
THE IDEA HERE IS THAT THE GREEN WITCH INCORPORATES HERBS INTO HER EVERY DAY ACTIVITIES AND CHORES AND USES THEM WITH MAGICKAL INTENTION.
I SUGGEST SCOTT CUNNINGHAM'S BOOK, "CUNNINGHAM'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MAGICKAL HERBS", FOR AN EXTREMELY COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF HERBS, THEIR CORRESPONDENCES, AND MAGICKAL USES.

I pick on Wicca from time to time. I think it's justifiable, especially give he extremely high degree of make-believe surrounding the whole Wicca movement.
You can buy a Powerful energy charged spiritual feather tool from eBay to help in crafting you magic spells. And make no mistake, these are real magic feathers.
"To create these feathers, Thunderwolf journeys into the spirit world to get the exact images and direction to create the type of feather you want. You can request feathers for specific prayers such as courage, healing, love, strength, clarity, increased psychic sensitivity, etc, to bring the specific energy of a totem into your life or to have a feather created to best match your needs right now as the spirits seem fit. No one feather is ever the same. Feathers generally measure about 8 to 12" in diameter on wing feathers. Although you can specify what feather type you would like to have used as the base, its recommended to let the spirits dictate this. Feather types generally on hand are imitation eagle, pure white, and brown barred feathers."
People buy them - odd people, nutballs even.

The Devil Went Down To Jersey
Posted by
Unknown
/ 10:43 PM /
Growing up, my best friend believed in the Jersey Devil. Truth be told, I'm fairly sure he still does. As my friend is a pretty stable guy otherwise, I'd have to say that this unrational belief in a mythical creature really shows the power that this type of folklore has. What makes intelligent, rational people believe in the existence of these types of beings?
After doing a bit of research on the subject, I found that all of the "evidence" of the existance of the Jersey Devil is sketchy at best. Belief in this creature stems from various stories of a devil child being born to a woman somewhere in New Jersey. The location of the supposed birth varies from story to story. In many versions of the story, a woman (often named Mrs. Leeds) wished that her next child would be a devil out of frustration and simply got her wish. Other versions claim that Mrs. Leeds was a witch, and that the child's father was a demon, or the Devil himself.
Supposed sightings of the Jersey Devil are just as unbelievable. Over the last two to three hundred years, people have attributed the Jersey Devil to animal mutilations, property damage, and hoof prints. There has never been any real, substantial evidence suggesting the existance of this creature. If that is the case, then the question still stands: Why do people believe?
The Jersey Devil falls into a category of "crytpids" (from the Greek "krypto," which means "hide"). A cryptid is a creature that is thought by some to exist, but whose existance is deemed highly unlikely. Other popular cryptids include the Yeti, Unicorns, and the Loch Ness Monster. Go ahead and read that last sentence again. The Jersey Devil falls into the same category as Unicorns.
Some psychologists have suggested that the belief in demonic creatures has to do with our desire to externalize our problems. Beliefs in things like the Jersey Devil allow us to create an external force that is the embodiment of the things they represent. In this case, something like the Jersey Devil would represent fear, cruelty, and evil. Additionally, people who tend to look for supernatural explanations to things are obviously drawn to these types of beliefs. Then, of course, there are gullible people, who will believe the "evidence" provided for the Jersey Devil's existance. Whatever the reason, since the existence of the Jersey Devil can't necessarily be "disproven", people will continue to believe the tales. As strange as it seems, if human history is any indication, this type of myth and folklore will always be a part of our society.

GARDENING TIPS Our local radio station has a Thought for the Day (like Radio 4, but a local person giving it). This week it has been the turn of a elderly lady who belongs to the Bahai faith, whom I once met at a Mind Body and Spirit Fair and chatted too. I remember being most impressed by the fact that while the other stalls were all selling things - fortune telling, crystals, head massage, angel cards etc, she was the only one just giving away leaflets (if people wanted them) and taking time to talk to people (a rare commodity), and not selling anything at all (apart from her faith, and her hopes for world peace).
Today's thought for today she got from the Amish (where I managed to track it down); it has also been used by scouts and many other people. Some useful advice from an Amish publication concerning planting your garden...
First, plant 5 rows of peas: preparedness, promptness, perseverance, politeness, and prayer.
Next to them, plant 3 rows of squash: squash gossip, squash criticism, squash indifference. No garden is complete without some turnips: Turn up with a smile. Turn up with determination. Finally, how about 5 rows of lettuce? Let us be faithful. Let us be unselfish. Let us be loyal. Let us be truthful.
Let us love one another.

Vishnu Dashavtaras And Charles Darwin Theory Grand Finale

Concept of Avatars: [Sources : MailerIndia dot com]. The following article is an continuation from the previous article on VISHNU DASHAVTARAS AND CHARLES DARWIN THEORY - PART II. Do, Read it, in case if the readers have missed it.
In the Puranic mythologies of ancient India, the legend of the Avatar is considered one of the most important myths of the Vedic culture. It is particularly associated with the God Vishnu, one of the principle deities of the Hindu trinity which also includes Brahma, the creator and Shiva, the destroyer. Vishnu is the preservation aspect of the trinity and represents that all-pervading power which maintains the universe and the cosmic order.
He is considered to be the embodiment of goodness and mercy and periodically intervenes in terrestrial evolution by descending to earth in a human incarnation as the Avatar. The primary role of the Avatar is to re-establish stability and order on the earth and to introduce a new evolutionary impulse which will uplift mankind into a greater and more unified consciousness.
Because their periodic manifestation is determined by an inherent association with the Time Spirit, they take birth at particular points in the cosmic cycle which correspond to the earth's passage through the zodiacal ages.
In the Bagavad Gita, one of India's most sacred scriptures the 8th Avatar Krishna reveals himself to his disciple, Arjuna and discloses something of this cosmic process,
"Whenever the world decline :in virtue and righteousness; and vice and injustice mount the throne, then cometh I, the Lord and revisit my world in visible form, and mingleth as a man with men, and by my influence and teachings do I destroy the evil and injustice and reestablish virtue and righteousness. Many times have I thus appeared, and many times hereafter shall I come again?"

To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I myself appear millennium after millennium.
The above quotes from the Bagavad Gita bear testimony to this fact.
The legend of the Avatar like all myths is prophetic. It is not a mere Allegory but an archetypal story describing the incarnations of living and conscious evolutionary forces. These mythic beings take birth on the earth at precise moments in order to help man and show him the way from his ordinary mortal state to an enlightened consciousness.
The first one is called the matsya avatar or the incarnation in the form of a fish. In this form, Vishnu saved the world from floods and brought back the sacred scriptures, the Vedas which had been stolen by a demon. As kurma avatar or as the incarnation in the form of a tortoise, Lord Vishnu is said to have supported the mountain mandara which was being used to churn the ocean. Mythology says the churning of the ocean was undertaken to obtain the life giving elixir for the devas or the gods.
Mandara, the mountain could not stand in the waters, it seemed to be sinking. To prevent this from happening, the tortoise lent its back for mandara to stand on. The third avatar was in the form of a boar.
The earth tormented by a demon named Hiranyaksha had sunk into the waters. Lord Vishnu slew the demon and assuming the form of a boar brought up the earth on its horn once again in the varaha avatar. In the Narasimha avatar, the Lord appears as half man-half lion.
This is the first time the man figure is introduced in the story of the descent of the lord Vishnu. Narasimha comes to slay yet another demon called Hiranyakahsyapu who was causing havoc in the world. As vamana, Lord Vishnu appears in the form of a dwarf. A dwarf that gradually grows in size to cover the entire universe. Story goes that he asks a boon of a king and the king had exhausted all his riches. The dwarf asks for but three steps and as each step grows larger than the other, the dwarf, in his form as Vishnu brings the end of the king Bali who aspired to be the king of heavens. As the sixth avatar, Lord Vishnu comes as Parasurama. Here there is lot of debate on whether Parasurama is really an incarnation or not.
Parasurama was the son of sage Jamadagni. The more important incarnation is the one to follow: as Rama. The story of Rama has caught many people's fancy and across the entire world, you can see its impact. The eighth incarnation where he appeared as Krishna. The eighth incarnation is that of Krishna. Krishna symbolizes many aspects of life and as a composite figure represents the past, present and the future. He forms the motif for dance, drama, and many other forms of art. Both Krishna and Rama have been so deeply adored by the people that they have acquired kaleidoscopic dimensions over time. As Rama, Vishnu took the form of a mortal. As Krishna, he was still divine in some aspects.
The ninth incarnation is again under great debate. Some say it is Buddha and others say before the Krishna avatar came that of Balarama, the elder brother of Krishna. The tenth incarnation is yet to take place and here Lord Vishnu is believed will come riding on a white horse and save the world once again from deluge. DASA AVATAR VS EVOLUTION THEORY
The forms taken by the lord in the ten incarnations bear a strange similarity to The Darwin's theory of evolution.
DARWIN'S THEORY OF EVOLUTION:From the invertebrates came the fishes. From the fishes the Amphibians and from the Amphibians the Reptiles. The Reptiles in turn gave rise to two separate classes the Aves (or the birds) and the Mammals. And of course in mammals the final step in evolution (atleast as of now!) was Man.
This theory was based on the principle of the survival of the fittest. So by those Amphibians had greater chances of survival than the Fishes, Reptiles had greater chances over the Amphibians and finally Man had the best chances of survival among all the beings.
In fact in the study of the manifestations of Lord Vishnu, better known as the Dasha- Avatars, we find that the theory of evolution has been explained in a very subtle manner. They are
01. The first entry was made as The Fish (Macha-avatara). The life in water, as an amphibian, the earliest known life on the earth, from where the progress was chronicled.
02. Then came a life sustaining not only in water but progressed to some extent on land. The Lord took shape of a Terrapin (tortoise). (Koorma-avatara).
03. Amphibian became semi-amphibian, and then an animal in swamp or slush. Lord became a Boar (Varaha).
04. The animal progressed to half-human in the shape of Half lion + half-human (Nara-Simha)
05. Evolution, the path of progress took the half human to full human shape. The next avatar was that of a Dwarf (Vamana).
06. It is but natural that Dwarf will progress to a full human, but with a wavering mind, uncontrollable, and acting without reasons. Yes he came as Parasurama, a man without control.
07. Slowly the man became perfect. He was Rama. Always giving importance to the penance than the pleasure ever respecting the guru and the elders and remaining dutiful to others wherever he was.
08. And then the perfect human form emerged with cleverness and ability to think and win. A person of intelligence, taking decisions to suit the situation. He was Krishna. Ready to fight. Ready to mediate, and ready to love and ready to be loved.
09. Tranquility, submission, passion for peace is the next step from achieving everything. He was Buddha.
10. The cycle has to end, so that it can start again. Kalki, they say will come to destroy the world. So that evolution can take place again.
Thus Darwin didn't propound anything new, but we presume that he studied our scriptures deeply, and came out with his theory. He had to win the laurels, because his name is such. Daar in Sanskrit (also in Arabic) means Doorway. So standing at the doorway to win, he won.
OBSERVATIONS:Vishnu is usually associated with right action and dignity. Since he is the preserver, it is his role to protect and sustain all that is good in the world. This is no easy task, so Vishnu reappears in different incarnations at different times throughout the history of the world to restore order.
It is said that Vishnu will appear in this universe 10 different times, in 10 different incarnations, or "das avatar." The first incarnation was a fish, then a tortoise, then a boar. The fourth was a 1/2 man- 1/2 lion creature, the fifth was a dwarf, and the sixth was an axe-wielding man. The seventh was the dutiful king Rama, while the eighth was the clever and likable hero Krishna. Hindus believe the ninth incarnation of Vishnu was even more progressed than Krishna, the enlightened man, Lord Buddha himself, and now the final incarnation of Vishnu will be Kalki. From fish to amphibian to land animal...from land animal to part man to simple man, and so on to the enlightened being...! What's remarkable is that Vishnu's 10 incarnations follow Darwin's theory of evolution, but were written thousands of years before Darwin, or the Scientific Process for that matter, were even born!
1. THE EVOLUTION THEORY.
The Theory of Evolution was originally introduced by the early thinkers and it was further emphasized by Darwin when he first produced his book called the "Origin of Species" in 1859. Later on some more people added their theories to the evolution theory of mankind.
GENERAL CONCEPT OF THE EVOLUTION THEORY.
It tells that about three and a half billion years ago some microorganisms like bacteria originated and took the shape of amoeba (microscopic unicellular protozoa), and from that all the plants, trees, worms and animals were evolved. Mammals, birds, fish and reptiles were all evolved from aquatic worms about 600 million years ago.
The theorists use certain terms to express their process of evolution, like: natural selection, adaptation, recombination (of genes), genetic drift and mutation.
ACCORDING TO THIS THEORY: Fish or aquatic animals, when exposed to the grounds, developed a need to breathe properly, so they developed a lung-like structure and became frogs (an amphibian). These frogs kept on jumping all the time and disturbing the atmosphere, so the nature pushed them down and they became reptiles like lizards, snakes and crocodiles. Tired of their slow motion they then evolved into running dinosaurs, from a miniature size to a real monstrous size. Feeling great they stamped the grounds of Asia, Europe and America when an unknown natural calamity happened and all the big dinosaurs died around 65 million years ago. They lived between 250 to 65 million years ago.
Comments:
Now coming to the technical aspects of this theory, you should know that the very basis of the theory is that from the invertebrates came the fishes.
Now that we have illustrated the features of the Dasa Avatars and Darwin's theory of evolution. Let us look at the similarities.
For the lord to be able to establish dharma over the evil forces, he has to himself assume a formidable form. These incarnations are supposed to occur one after the other and according to Hinduism the tenth or Kalki avatar is yet to be born.
Given this we see that when the first avatar, that of the fish, was taken, the fishes were themselves the most powerful being on the Earth. This suggests that the Earth was probably filled completely with water at some time of its creation. Then the forms of the tortoise and the boar seem to validate Darwin's theory. The half man half lion can be considered an intermediate step in the evolution suggesting the need for the human brain.
At this point a clear conclusion is drawn that Man is the most powerful of all creations and so never does god take another animal form.
The evolution of man himself is depicted in discrete steps. The first man was short, and then he evolved into something like the Stone Age man and then reached perfection in Sri Rama. As the saying goes, "everything that rises has to fall back to the Earth" and so does Man too.
The degradation of Man starts with Balarama and continues through Sri Krishna. At this point we complete the past. The line of thought still holds sense as man has indeed degraded and righteousness is a virtue that carries little meaning in the present world.
However we could derive solace from the fact that we are in the beginning of the Kali Yuga (Period between the Buddha and Kalki) and total degradation of values is an attribute of the distant future.
Hinduism predicts that when complete degradation occurs, god will take the final avatar and destroy the Earth. And sure enough he has to take the form of the ultimate destructor to succeed in his goals.
2. NEWTON'S LAW, THE VEDIC CONCEPT OF THE LAW OF KARMA.
Newton. In 1687 Newton discovered 'gravity' which was simple to understand. He formulated the physical laws and detailed his theory known as the Newtonian physics which is still being used in general classical physics and is good enough to determine the gravitational and astronomical situations of our planetary system and our galaxy.
The Newton's Law of Cause and effect that is to say for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction resembles of our Vedic view of the law of Karma. The word "karma" comes from the Sanskrit verb kri, to do. Although karma means action, it also means the result of action. Whatever acts we have performed and whatever thoughts we have thought have created an impression, both in our minds and in the universe around us. The universe gives back to us what we have given to it: "As ye sow, so shall ye reap". Good actions and thoughts create good effects, bad ones create bad effects.
Mental Imprints:
Whenever we perform any action and whenever we think any thought, an imprint-a kind of subtle groove-is made upon the mind. These imprints or grooves are known as samskaras. Sometimes we are conscious of the imprinting process; just as often we are not. When actions and thoughts are repeated, the grooves become deeper. The combination of "grooves"- samskaras- creates our individual characters and also strongly influences our subsequent thoughts and actions. If we anger easily, for example, we create an angry mind that is predisposed to react with anger rather than with patience or understanding. As water when directed into a narrow canal gains force, so the grooves in the mind create canals of behavior patterns which become extraordinarily difficult to resist or reverse. Changing an ingrained mental habit literally becomes an uphill battle.
If our thoughts are predominantly those of kindness, love, and compassion, our character reflects it, and these very thoughts will be returned to us sooner or later. If we send out thoughts of hatred, anger, or pettiness, those thoughts will also be returned to us. ERQ3FCHKA2WB

Ministry Monday The Church Nursery I
Posted by

/ 7:09 PM /
Sorry, I'm running a little late in my post this morning. Mondays are family day at our house, after a busy Sunday. Thanks Deb for the reminder:)
A couple of months ago, I posted a poem about the church nursery. I thought that it might be a help to some of you out there working in the ministry, or serving the Lord in your local church.
REASONS WHY YOUR CHURCH NURSERY SERVICE IS VITAL TO YOUR CHURCH
by Tony Kummer
"Disclaimer: Hinton Baptist Church may not agree with all teachings and positions held by Mr. Kummer. However, we have found this to be helpful."
Too often serving in the church nursery can seem like a thankless job, but it should not be that way. With that in mind, I offer these following 7 reasons why serving in the church nursery is important.
REASON #1
God is in the church nursery. This may come as a shock, but the Bible has specific promises about God's presence when children are welcomed and loved in Jesus' name.
REASON #2
Your service in the church nursery allows church goers to focus on worship, rather than worrying about their children. In a very real sense your ministry makes it possible for the pastor to fulfill his ministry.
REASON #3
The first (and sometimes lasting) feelings a child will have toward church is formed in the nursery department. While not everyone agrees, I believe that a positive experience in the church nursery is essential.
REASON #4
When you serve in the nursery, you are being entrusted with the most important (and vulnerable) members of the church family. There is no greater treasure on this side of heaven than the little ones God has given us. You must be someone special to have a job that is so important.
REASON #5
Your service is essential for your own spiritual growth. You may have never looked at it this way, but a "growing" Christian is always a "serving" Christian. Jesus was known for putting others first, when you serve in the church nursery you are walking in his example.
REASON #6
The church nursery is the first contact young families will have with your church. Your friendly greeting and exceptional care for their children can make a great first impression for your church. If they don't feel like their children are safe, they will not return - and rightly so.
REASON #7
Your service in the church nursery is a powerful opportunity for prayer. If every nursery worker would spend several minutes praying over the children in their care, imagine how God might begin to change this coming generation. There is no better way to create an environment of spiritual nurture than to pray while you serve in the nursery.
This sweet little one, in the photo below, is left in my care most Sunday mornings:)
As our church is only a year old, I am in the nursery ALOT. A few months ago, I got a really bad attitude about never being able to hear a service. However, after reading this, the Lord has changed my attitude. What a GREAT opportunity I have each Sunday to influence these little lives placed in my care!
I especially like:
point #1-God is there, just like He is in the service!
point #5-We can serve as "unto the Lord"! Even changing diapers, wiping noses, and feeding babies can be done in a way to bring glory to our Saviour!
point #7-I have started using this time to pray for these children, and the children of our church. May the Lord raise up a generation that will not depart from the truths of His Word!

News Occultist Plans To Annoy Pope

Self-styled Witch King Magnus Lynius Shadee aims to open two occult centres in the Midlands before the Pope's visit to the UK this autumn, according to a report by the Sunday Mercury.
Shadee, who also considered standing for Parliament in the General Election, said he wants to open two occult centres - one in Coventry and one in Birmingham. Pope Benedict XVI is set to visit those two locations on September 19 during a planned four-day tour of the UK.
According to the newspaper's website: Shadee, aged 65, said: "I've always intended to open an occult centre in the cities and the Pope's visit simply brought forward the date. The Vatican will probably be none too happy with the idea though."
There has been quite a bit of opposition to the Pope's visit to the UK - mainly because it is estimated it will cost lb12 million. Although the Roman Catholic Church is raising more than lb7 million of that money, some of it will be paid by UK taxpayers. Plenty of people, myself included, feel that the taxpayers' money could go to better uses.
However, I'm not sure Shadee's plan to open a pair of occult centres is going to make any difference to the Pope's visit, or the amount it will cost taxpayers. Shadee's probably doing it because he loves a bit of attention in the press, in my opinion.
I also don't know if there is any shortage of shops selling occult

Research Shows That Religion Is All In The Mind

"Some scholars claim that religion evolved as an adaptation to solve the problem of cooperation among genetically un
Dr. Pyysiainen and co-author Dr. Marc Hauser, from the Departments of Psychology and Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University, used a fresh perspective based in experimental moral psychology to review these two competing theories. "We were interested in making use of this perspective because religion is linked to morality in different ways," says Dr. Hauser. "For some, there is no morality without religion, while others see religion as merely one way of expressing one's moral intuitions."
Citing several studies in moral psychology, the authors highlight the finding that despite differences in, or even an absence of, religious backgrounds, individuals show no difference in moral judgments for unfamiliar moral dilemmas. The research suggests that intuitive judgments of right and wrong seem to operate independently of explicit religious commitments.
"This supports the theory that religion did not originally emerge as a biological adaptation for cooperation, but evolved as a separate by-product of pre-existing cognitive functions that evolved from non-religious functions," says Dr. Pyysiainen. "However, although it appears as if cooperation is made possible by mental mechanisms that are not specific to religion, religion can play a role in facilitating and stabilizing cooperation between groups."
Perhaps this may help to explain the complex association between morality and religion. "It seems that in many cultures religious concepts and beliefs have become the standard way of conceptualizing moral intuitions. Although, as we discuss in our paper, this link is not a necessary one, many people have become so accustomed to using it, that criticism targeted at religion is experienced as a fundamental threat to our moral existence," concludes Dr. Hauser.

VERSES FOR JANUARY 16TH
1 NEPHI 7:11-8:611 Yea, and how is it that ye have forgotten what great things the Lord hath done for us, in delivering us out of the hands of Laban, and also that we should obtain the record? 12 Yea, and how is it that ye have forgotten that the Lord is able to do all things according to his will, for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise faith in him? Wherefore, let us be faithful to him. 13 And if it so be that we are faithful to him, we shall obtain the land of promise; and ye shall know at some future period that the word of the Lord shall be fulfilled concerning the destruction of Jerusalem; for all things which the Lord hath spoken concerning the destruction of Jerusalem must be fulfilled. 14 For behold, the Spirit of the Lord ceaseth soon to strive with them; for behold, they have rejected the prophets, and Jeremiah have they cast into prison. And they have sought to take away the life of my father, insomuch that they have driven him out of the land. 15 Now behold, I say unto you that if ye will return unto Jerusalem ye shall also perish with them. And now, if ye have choice, go up to the land, and remember the words which I speak unto you, that if ye go ye will also perish; for thus the Spirit of the Lord constraineth me that I should speak. 16 And it came to pass that when I, Nephi, had spoken these words unto my brethren, they were angry with me. And it came to pass that they did lay their hands upon me, for behold, they were exceedingly wroth, and they did bind me with cords, for they sought to take away my life, that they might leave me in the wilderness to be devoured by wild beasts. 17 But it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord, saying: O Lord, according to my faith which is in thee, wilt thou deliver me from the hands of my brethren; yea, even give me strength that I may burst these bands with which I am bound. 18 And it came to pass that when I had said these words, behold, the bands were loosed from off my hands and feet, and I stood before my brethren, and I spake unto them again. 19 And it came to pass that they were angry with me again, and sought to lay hands upon me; but behold, one of the daughters of Ishmael, yea, and also her mother, and one of the sons of Ishmael, did plead with my brethren, insomuch that they did soften their hearts; and they did cease striving to take away my life. 20 And it came to pass that they were sorrowful, because of their wickedness, insomuch that they did bow down before me, and did plead with me that I would forgive them of the thing that they had done against me. 21 And it came to pass that I did frankly forgive them all that they had done, and I did exhort them that they would pray unto the Lord their God for forgiveness. And it came to pass that they did so. And after they had done praying unto the Lord we did again travel on our journey towards the tent of our father. 22 And it came to pass that we did come down unto the tent of our father. And after I and my brethren and all the house of Ishmael had come down unto the tent of my father, they did give thanks unto the Lord their God; and they did offer sacrifice and burnt offerings unto him.
CHAPTER 8
Lehi sees a vision of the tree of life-He partakes of its fruit and desires his family to do likewise-He sees a rod of iron, a strait and narrow path, and the mists of darkness that enshroud men-Sariah, Nephi, and Sam partake of the fruit, but Laman and Lemuel refuse. About 600-592 B.C. 1 And it came to pass that we had gathered together all manner of seeds of every kind, both of grain of every kind, and also of the seeds of fruit of every kind. 2 And it came to pass that while my father tarried in the wilderness he spake unto us, saying: Behold, I have dreamed a dream; or, in other words, I have seen a vision. 3 And behold, because of the thing which I have seen, I have reason to rejoice in the Lord because of Nephi and also of Sam; for I have reason to suppose that they, and also many of their seed, will be saved. 4 But behold, Laman and Lemuel, I fear exceedingly because of you; for behold, methought I saw in my dream, a dark and dreary wilderness. 5 And it came to pass that I saw a man, and he was dressed in a white robe; and he came and stood before me. 6 And it came to pass that he spake unto me, and bade me follow him.

ANDREW FAULDS [ " THE MAN/WARRIOR IS THE SON OF MY ENCLOSURE " ]
NIGEL GREEN [ " THE: "DARK ONE" AND "MY OWN CHAMPION" - THE FRUITFUL ONE IN YOUR MEADOW " ]
"
It's ( really ): " ALL IN THOSE CARDS "...
And, BASED UPON THAT COMBINED INFORMATION we can: Readily Extrapolate" and/or "Spiritually Decipher" - THE FOLLOWING ACCURATE SPIRITUAL MESSAGE:
" THE TRUE SON OF YAHWEH is ( actually ): "The Fox Hunter", "The Strong Armed Man", and "The Right Hand Of God" - after all, HE is ' THE CUNNING ONE WHO PONDERS VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING '... and, the one who has now found grace and favor is THE FORGER OF IRON!
In fact, HE is ( both ): "The Benevolent Ram" and "My Son Of The River" - and, that is exactly why ' THE WIELDER OF THE SPEAR IS: THE ADVISOR, EXECUTIVE, AND PROTECTOR '. As you can now see, dear children, HE is ( actually ): "My Vigilant Guardian" and "The Highly Attentive Watchman"... since, despite all of this confusion, ' THE ONE WRAPPED IN LAUREL IS THE FORGER OF KNIVES '!
And, since, HE is ( both ): THE RULER OVER HEAVEN [ known as, MICHAEL ] and THE FATHER TO MANY GODS [ referred to as, ADAM ] - I once again ask you, ' WHO IS LIKE GOD? '... and, the answer is plainly ' THE: "FAIR", "WHITE", "BLESSED", AND "HOLY ONE" '. After all, dear children, THE MESSENGER OF GOD has always been THE BLACK AND WHITE ONE - with: "The Will", "Desire", and "Helmet Of Protection". You see, HE is ' THE MIRACULOUS SON OF GOD '... because, while you may not have perceived it, ' GOD HAS ALWAYS PROVIDED THE HOLY ONE WITH HIS OWN HELMET OF PROTECTION '... and, it ( equally ) goes without saying, ' YOUR OWN TRUE RULER IS THE CUNNING ONE'S FATHER '!
THE PROTECTOR ( or, My Highly Regarded And Respected One ) is: "The Harbinger Of Death", "The Son Of The Supplanter", and "The Victorious Warrior" - that, GOD HAS PROVIDED YOU. In fact, HE is ' THE SERPENT'S OWN MOUTH ( or, THE ORACLE ) ' - since, it has always been, ' THE NOBLE PATRICIAN WHO SUPPLIES THE FOOD TO MY CITY '!
Indeed, THE ONE HIDDEN AMONG ALL OF THOSE VIKINGS is: "The Man/Warrior" and "The Son Of My Own Enclosure"... since, ' HE IS YOUR PROTECTOR'S OWN GLORIOUS ONE '. You see, dear children: "The Dark One" and "My Own Champion - "has always been, ' THE FRUITFUL ONE IN YOUR OWN MEADOW '! "
Ahava and Shalom.
May YAHWEH'S Own: "Love" and "Peace" - be upon you!
