All of us have a certain amount of extra-sensual powers. That sudden feeling that there is someone outside the door in spite of not having heard the bell, or that horrifying dream about your aunt's illness which somehow came true are all the silent work of that little extra-sensory capacities you and I both possess. Usually you brush them off as your sixth sense working over time, but what they actually are short glimpses of the subconscious potential you posses to mentally connect with events happening or about to happen around you.Psychics are different from you and me, who usually ignore a correct guess as a lucky shot, simply in terms of their recognition of their capacities. A number of us are intuitive but very few among those actually take their talent seriously enough to further hone their skills and reach some sort of perfection. Psychics, whether trained or natural ones, recognize their skills and choose to nourish it till at some point they grow capable of attending to every single event occurring around them with far deeper concentration and focus than any regular person would. To put it simply, Psychics have a rare ability to pay attention to things as compared to 'regular' people.
A Little slice of History...
Psychic predictions and phenomena have been witnessed (though unknowingly) in various junctures of history. However, the very first 'professional' psychics emerged only in the 1840's with the Fox Family of Hydesville, New York. This family was, it was claimed, regularly 'visited' by spirits who were determined to prove that life continued beyond death.
Following the 'ghostly' visitations the 2 daughters of the house discovered their inherent capacity to communicate with people from the 'other world' and therefore went on to showcase their talent at various locations.
Their popularity immediately caused a dozen such groups to spring up almost overnight and thus began what was later termed as the 'Spiritualist Movement'.
Early Psychics usually took the help of various fantastic 'acts' as a part of their reading. Sudden materialization, table tipping etc. were all common place enough. Today however, Mediums and Psychics rely mainly on their own mental force in order to receive and relay information to those who seek it.
How do they work?
Each of us have what is termed amongst Psychics and Mediums as the Spirit guide, a sort of Guardian Angel'ish figure. This Spirit Guide plays a very important role in the Psychics attempt to obtain information and build some sort of a connection. Your Spirit Guide allows any Psychic trying to access your life into areas, which you would want him/her to go to, and thus protects you from any sort of undue or unwanted invasion.
Your spirit guide guides the Psychics spirit guide through information regarding you allowing her to see certain facts of your life, which may be, or may not be, bothering you in some way. This 'metaphysical' connection is what allows the Psychic to know about you in ways, which you would not expect him/her to. Thus the mental Powers of a Psychic is what exactly sets them apart from us. A deliberation of powers and specially a capacity to control and maneuver their thought process in order to access someone else is also an unique capacity.
Can you be a Psychic?
As mentioned earlier, all of us have Psychic potential, however most of us do not tap into it. It's true that some Psychics are born with a special gift but just like every brilliant musician isn't a prodigy like Mozart or every fine artist is not a Picasso many Psychics are 'non-natural' or trained. Yes, Psychic abilities can be acquired through hard work and perseverance, provided you posses a certain amount of sensitivity and kindness of course. They also need to be thoroughly responsible since the sort of knowledge and truth they have access too can easily become a burden for most.
Occasionally some tragic event, like say the death of a loved one etc. can shock people enough to open up a whole new psychic realm for them, marking their new journey as a Psychic.
